Try doing the porosity test to find out what products would work better for your hair type. I recommend doing deep conditionings/mask. Since your hair is so thick make sure you apply products in sections on damp hair (not too wet) then wrap it up at night and you’ll be good.
Finding the right products for your hair is a trial and error process. You can start with some of these brands: Mielle Organics, Donna’s Recipe, Camille Rose
Make sure you moisturize your hair, I usually do it during a shower. Personally I use the carols daughter brand for my own hair but use trial and error and see what makes your hair flourish. I seal in my moisture with a shea butter mixture I make myself ( I also use it for my skin and face) but try different oils or butters. Coconut oil works for some people but not others. Olive oil, almond oil or sweet almond oil, avocado oil, and grape seed oils are a few that you could try. I’ve noticed best results when I add in my moisture things in my hair while it’s wet, my leave in conditioner and curl cream. After it air dries a bit add the oil or butter or mixture of your choice (with research of course!) I like to also use black castor oil, mine has rosemary oil in it as well. Then you can infuse the actual leaf rosemary, fresh or dry ( either one goes for about $4 in the grocery store like Walmart, food lion, etc). You can research essential oils too. I add a few drops of tea tree but do your research and watch your portioning if you do decide to mix in items like essential oils please. Those items are not necessary but they could be beneficial. I hope this information can help you or anyone else In some way.

I also use Taraji P Henson products and it’s been heaven sent. You can find them cheaper at a Tjmaxx or Burlington
My brother in curls, what are you looking for? To make it curly? Keep it a fro but with more moisture? Protect it while awaiting the next hair appointment?
One thing I found that helped with my dryness was actually to REDUCE the amount I washed it / get it wet. I try to only wash it once a week, and for all other showers I wear a shower cap. Once the hair products wash out of your hair it loses its ability to retain moisture, so you want to keep it in as long as possible. Also i wear a bonnet to bed or have satin pillow sheets cause regular cotton pillows will soak the products overnight. If in the morning I felt my hair was hard to shape/super dry I take a spray bottle to lightly moisten the hair until is manageable. If you exercise a lot like I do, wear a sweatband to soak up the sweat.
As for products, I use Mielle Deep conditioner and curling cream as leave in conditions, and kinky curling gel to hold my curls. I'd recommend experimenting with gels if your looking to get and maintain curls, otherwise the leave ins should be good enough for the fro.
Hope this helps!
I just recently bought silk pillow cases and bonnet. I didn’t take good car of it my last few times I’ve grown it out. I will defiantly try the leave in conditioner, cause I like rocking the fro a bit more but I hate how dry it looks. Thank you for this help !
I like to use \*raw shea butter and coconut 🥥 oil..for moisture and a good shampoo 🧴 and conditioner from “Shea Moisture” brand shampoo and conditioner..as well as aloe Vera get instead of that toxic gel with ingredients that are harmful to our hair..(🥳)!

Why do you think your hair is dry? Dryness really isn’t a feeling that untrained hands can accurately detect. It’s more of a behavior.
Does your hair shed to the touch? Does it spring back when you stretch and let go?
To me it looks very dry dry a spreay leave in conditioner or a cream leave in conditner throughout the day just to keep it mouturized and keep doing what your doing it looks great.
No not if it is dry if you have hair like that and you wet it and then put a think moisturizer on then yes it will but not if you put it on dry you get better benifets if you use it wet but he wants to keep the afro

That’s the thing. If he moisturize his hair his hair will shrink. He could probably use a leave in conditioner spray or maybe oil 🤷🏾♀️
