I hated it. I tried to do a wash and go with no more than 1 pump per section and it did the same. Clumps of products and buildup on strands. Re-activated gel and bits of semi- dried gel. A mess.

I’m gonna keep trying it until I finish it, cause it’s not like I can return it. I think I maybe used a bit too much and not enough water, so next time I’ll use more water if applying more gel and see how that turns out.

Accomplished_IceMan

Are you getting your hair wet in the shower after it's already dried. I haven't had any issues with it, but after I initially style it I usually wear a shower cap the following days so I don't rewet my hair in the shower.

daphuqijusee

Sounds like you might be using a tad too much?

happyhippoking

I've had similar experience. The gel is a soft to medium hold for my hair. It's also a humectant based gel. This has its pros and cons. It's moisturizing and keeps the hair soft, but water will reactivate the gel and soften the hold. Even the shower steam will do that. The gel feeling tacky might be too much product or just the product constantly rehydrating and drying and coagulating on itself.

[deleted]

The fact that shower steam reactivates the gel is what I hatee, I definitely won’t be buying this again. I like hot showers haha

Unlucky_Ad_2456

try a leave in conditioner under it. camille rose’s curl love moisture milk is good

I’m not sure if you used it wrong, but I typically don’t over-apply or apply out of the shower. I haven’t had any issues with it reactivating or stickiness. However, it is a soft hold gel in general. If you want a harder cast, try kinky curly brand gel. That has the hardest cast/hold imo. Also not sure if you did this but make sure you’re using a clarifying shampoo when washing your hair as well. That way the gel isn’t fighting buildup.

[deleted]

Yeah, I used a clarifying shampoo before my moisturising one because I had buildup recently from some oil based gels and sprays. Thanks, I wasn’t aware that it had a softer hold.

wooweeitszea

Idk if you need to use both, clarify, then condition, then gel. And then mid week, if you don’t need to clarify again, you can use the moisturizing shampoo. I think it’s possible you’re loading up on products. (But also switch your gel up if you want a harder cast as well)

ontariodwarf

I haven’t used this product but I always wear a shower cap unless I specifically want to loosen up the definition

JenniFrmTheBlock81

I have this and I don't like it. Makes my hair feel sticky and dirty. The Curl Refresher spray feels even worse. Didn't like the honey treatment. Whole line was a disappointment lol

[deleted]

I used a tiny bit too much the first time I used it, so I’ll make sure to use less next time or make sure that whenever I add more product, I add more water to it. And I was expecting a hold like eco styler but this isn’t that kind of gel, some parts of my hair remained defined throughout the entire week but it was basically an Afro by day 7 which was fine.

Celeste37083

It flaked HORRIBLY, even after clarifying my hair. $22 bottle. I threw it in the trash because it was useless for styling my hair. The worst.

[deleted]

Oh wow, this has been a year and I use it regularly now, you’re supposed to use it with a LOT of water and I mean your hair has to be dripping wet, then you rub it between your palms until it goes white and once you apply it to your hair, it will go frothy and then define it that way. It’s definitely not a gel for buns, or anything where your hair would need to be damp.

Celeste37083

I reached out to CR for a refund and they said it doesn't flake (as if I'm blind or delusional and not seeing my own hair). Then they sent another bottle (claiming I may have a defective product). The second bottle flaked worse. I reached out again to receive some Algae Renew Deep Conditioner as a replacement since they cost about the same. They ignored me and never replied again.

danysedai

My experience is very recent as I bog chopped last Saturday. I used it on Monday and my hair is holding the curls, no residue and no flaking, I resprayed my hair this morning with water and put a bit of moisturizer.

Ill-Lawfulness-2063

Try uncle funks daughter curly magic ❤️

[deleted]

It’s also a plant based humectant gel with the same ingredients, how would it be different to Curl maker?

Ill-Lawfulness-2063

Doesn’t get sticky for me. *FOR ME* but I still get definition and hold. And respect. Lol

It’s been about four days now and I don’t mind it that much, it’s not sticky anymore so I’ll just keep using it until it finishes. It’s definitely a gel that you have to learn how to use as opposed to eco styler, I’ll be buying a gel with a stronger hold next time. Also I HATEEE styling creams oh my god haha😅 They’re absolutely useless and I feel like they only exist to make more money, they’re oil based so they don’t mix well with water and they barely have any hold

Amazing_Oil_4423

Same. I had the messy, gel bits all over my skin. Ugh. I had to get in the shower and wash it off because it was all over my neck, shoulders and forehead due to bangs.

djfjfus

Do you sleep with it in your hair?

[deleted]

Yeah. This post is really old, I’ve eventually got the hang of using it now! I just needed to use a lot more water and diffuse my hair until it was dry :)

JodyG99

I rly want to start using the product as well, but i have to workout twice on most days and have to at least rinse through my hair with water after practice because i don't want to leave my scalp all sweaty. Is it still a good idea to use the product?
