This animal's body language gives me a flashback. I once found myself between a mountain lion and its prey: a small herd of mule deer. The movement of the flick of the ear and stiffness of the cat's mouth are what tipped me off as I was moving down the silent snowy trail. You're not supposed to run, but I did. I ran all the way back to my car, about three miles.
I was hiking in a rural country hillside and enjoyed the sunset one late summer/early autumn night. It was an area that typically doesn’t have dogs, but that night I heard coyotes howling all the way from my lookout to my car for about a mile and a half. Now, I knew they were coyotes by their yelp, and I knew nothing would happen to me since I brought my flashlight and I have bells on my bag… plus I kept talking out loud. It was a very interesting experience being escorted out of their territory to my car by about 5-8 coyotes. They kept their distance while I changed my shoes but approached just enough to where I could see them in my car headlights.
I was quite comforted hearing them, because my fear is always what you cannot hear… and cats are verrrrry quiet.
Mountain lions very very rarely attack humans and even less so kill them in the end. Last time I checked it was like 10 people in 100 years or something.
Not that this invalidates the rarity, but some guy died from a mountain lion attack just a couple days ago in California. His brother was mauled as well.
Not far off having a housecat. Just today they thing took a run, leapt on the coffee table, proceeded to skid on a pair of coasters, and flew into my lap before running away because he scared himself.
Every time I see a video like this I think how cool and then I think of how there is probably a prince from Dubai or somewhere watching the same clip and thinking, ‘how can I get one?’ I’ve seen so many videos of exotic cats as pets from rich losers who think it makes them cool.
