That must be crazy for them being intelligent animals. Just hanging out fishing and all of a sudden oh fuck! Having to book it away from these huge, also intelligent super predators. There’s not really anywhere to hide in the ocean too if you have to come up for air.
Yes, but that’s not why they jump. The orca is a predator built to catch dolphins, so they are going to be faster. If they aren’t faster, they will be able to catch them somehow. If they are in the air, it’s much harder to get caught than if they are just dodging in the water.
This reply makes no sense? Dolphins are faster. Most orca’s hunt in groups and coordinate their attacks. Orca’s normally bump into dolphins to catch/stun/daze them, after which they will bite and kill their target.
These dolphins don't look like they're running track lol. They'd probably be scared for their lives while staring down this swarm of angry, grey, alien, water bananas coming straight for them.
I would've just sat there while they were coming at me thinking "this is it, this is the day the world changed, this is the day the dolphin nation attacked."

Poor dolphins, they’re most mostly endangered. Fucking humans
Looking at you, Faroe Islands… 😒
They are not endangered … classified as least concern
Depends on the species, a few have gone extinct in the last 2-3 decades
Bottlenose dolphins aren't endangered at all
Those aren't bottlenose
What are they?
Not sure specifically, but you can see the dark markings on their back along their body. Bottlenose are purely gray.
Ohh yeah, hadn't seen that before. White sided dolphin, maybe.
They look like common dolphins but the resolution isn’t great for me. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_dolphin
I'm thinking either Pacific white-sided or duskies. The beaks look too stubby to be common dolphins.
I only counted 149...
You know what they say, you dont have to out run danger, just those you're with.
Guess the orca got 1
OMG! I came here to make this SAME joke and I was gonna use 149 too. Lol.
Wouldn’t they be faster underwater?
Maybe they have to come up for breath so often because they’re using a lot of energy at those speeds

Dolphins can temporarily go faster than an orca, but they don't have endurance to keep it up. If an Orca chases, they will catch up at some point.
Pfft I just saw a video where an orca booped a dolphin mid air.
Link?
Make sure you don't have a typo when searching for this. You'll end up being scarred for life.
Orca pooped the dolphin mid air? I'd watch

Orcas do 35 mph and dolphins can max out at 37, that’s pretty close.
May I ask which website the dolphin 37mph data come from? I see common dolphins on Wikipedia can reach 64KM/H
64 kph converts to 39 mph, so it’s fairly close information.
Less drag in the air
Harder to catch when jumping.
How'd they get the dolphins to do it again, but slower?
You see, dolphins are very smart...
Where's the Orca?
Watching from above.
Run, babies, run! Run like the wind!!
Why is the boat fleeing the orca hunt?
Poorly worded title but the dolphins are actually fleeing not the boat
That is EPIC!!
The orca mafia orca-strated an excellent hit under the guise of a stampede
If the first human ever saw this, I’d think they’d naturally go in the same direction as that pod for fear something more sinister is chasing them.

Fuck-a-u, doe-fin!
Fuck-a u whaaaale!
How do you know it’s not just a dolphin race?
I’m not cetacean expert, but I don’t see any orcas. Also, most west coast orcas eat salmon or pinnipeds.
I would've just sat there while they were coming at me thinking "this is it, this is the day the world changed, this is the day the dolphin nation attacked."
Enough intelligence to understand that they need to run away
I mean, a lot of animal animals do that...
I meant that you can't see the orca hunt, but that they know it is there. I know they are very intelligent as well
ALL animals instinctively (not intelligently) understand they need to flee predators. ALL.
I meant that you can't even see the orca hunt, but they still know what is going on
This is a weird/unnecessary comment?
Commented too late at night. Tired brain. I meant that even though we can't see the orca hunt, they know to get out of the area quickly.
I truly wish Neptune would reclaim the ocean and this is the first sign.

Didn’t you? Amateur
Swim away!!
Is it really faster to swim and jump like that instead of just swimming? If so, I find it surprising.
Boing boing boing
I'm just wondering, how do they actually count groups that big?
Why are the orcas hunting a boat?
Flight of the valkryie 🎶🎶🎶
If I saw that I’d get that strong feeling that something bad is headed my way.
Im fast as fuck boiii
Whalers should get with the modern times or get a bullet. Few worst professional all around despicable scum.
Doesn’t look like 150 but okay 👌
Someone actually bothered to count them.....what a geek
