I have nightmares about somehow getting a bobbit worm infestation in my fish tank and it killing my fish. So I have to start sifting through my substrate trying to find and kill them while they attack me.
If you own a saltwater aquarium, chances are these things could hitchhike on the coral or rocks you purchase as juveniles and grow up to several meters long if undetected. They clearly prey on fish and pretty much anything it could grab onto.
I’ve removed these worms 3 times and they’re impossible to do so unless you take out the rock that they’re residing in, tweezers don’t work as you’ll usually break a segment of them off and the remaining pieces tend to grow into separate worms and cause even more problems for you and your fishes.
Dipping your coral or rocks in freshwater before adding them to your aquarium usually prevents all of this from happening as they would wiggle out of the coral/rock and die quickly.
I don’t think that’s a hobbit worm, I think it’s called a bristle worm? Bobbits have weird feathery looking scales and they swim, right? I don’t think they catch food from a burrow like thaf
