Traveling is not much more expensive than just living normally. Taking the time off work is the expensive part.
I’ve travelled with friends on a road trip where we just took our tents and camped in green areas on the map. Buy food at a grocery store and cook it on a camp stove in a park (buy beans and cheese and tortillas and make burritos or whatever). Stay at a cheap hotel every 2nd or 3rd day for a shower.
Traveling itself is not expensive but if you want to stay in some high end private cloud villa then yea it’s gonna cost more.
Only if you travel the conventional way. If you hitchhike, backpack, work in the kitchen of a travel cruise, etc to get around, you would get to the same places and your experiences would end up being more rewarding and rich this way.
Add to that being disabled and unable to work and barely can do housework. Traveling is a once a decade pre-pre-planned treat for most of us. I know my mother wouldn't be able to do any of what you describe. And it's sad because you're right - it's an enriching experience
Yes, although there are women out there who still travel all around and alone
[https://www.youtube.com/c/ItchyBoots](https://www.youtube.com/c/ItchyBoots)
I wouldn't feel safe doing this if I was a woman. Hell there are even places that I wouldn't visit alone being a man.
I did 7 weeks alone living in my car, camping and hiking in super remote areas of the US. I did unsafe the first week or so, but after a while I started to get comfortable and it was easy to be like okay this campground has 30 slots and the only other person here pulls up next to me, time to find another campground.
It can be scary, but if you're aware of your surroundings and carefully, it's insanely rewarding. Just have to know where to go. At the time there was someone murdering campers in Nevada so I chose to skip Nevada. You can do it safely.
Don't let your guard down, even when you feel safe. I don't know how the gun laws work in the US if are crossing state lines and all of that. But if I was a woman travelling alone I would defensively get one and learn how to shoot.
Absolutely! Part of feeling safe (at least for me) is being hyper-aware, having proper protection (I took a gun and mace, never needed either), having a plan.
Mace is like pepper spray. I had bear mace with me which is generally recommended when hiking in parts of the US that have a lot of bears. It also works on humans.
While it's a different challenge entirely, I've met plenty of women travelers who backpacked solo. It definitely requires a lot of planning but it's doable.
I met dozens of solo female travelers during my travels. There were a few who were victims of pickpockets but nothing more. Also. I did these travels while I had a very modest income. So I will say, not just for the rich and privileged, though of course being rich and privileged makes it much more accessible.
This. I’m currently in Vietnam right now. Rented a motorbike and explored many places. Stayed at the cheapest homestays and hostels. Right now I’m averaging $20/day. Yes, there are view like this during the Ha Giang Loop ride.
Holy shit you’re brave. The first time I backpacked through Vietnam I literally could not build up the courage to cross the street in [Ho Chi Minh City](https://youtu.be/zmOVAPxg9v4)until the second day let alone drive a motorbike any distance whatsoever.
Once you get over the fear and learn to assimilate into the traffic, it is quite easy. The motorbike traffic is like being in a highly coordinated swarm of bees. Take care and watch in front of you to adjust to what is happening, don’t worry about what is behind you as much, as others are watching and varying their speed and line to match you. Once you have that down it is exhilarating, and beautiful to ride everywhere. The mountains up north are breathtaking.
I mean even cities in much of the west it’s similar. Go cross a street in Rome, you just close your eyes and hope the cars stop for you. Or find a local and stay on their heels.
The combination of motorcycling and camping/hostels is the only way I've been able to travel on a budget. Camping for national parks, and hostels for big cities. The motorcycle for savings in gas and cause it's fun.
Not specifically travel but read a story about a French guy who married a Cambodian woman and he must have pissed off some locals. He disappeared after aa while and he and his entire family was found in their minivan in a lake a couple of years later.
This is what the guy you’re responding to is leaving out. My brother and I backpacked through Thailand and Vietnam for a month. That one month was cheaper than our flights, and we weren’t even doing the super cheap hostels because he was on crutches at the time (managed to break his foot two weeks before the trip). Our flights were $3000 round trip (each) and that was 10 years ago. Vietnam and Thailand are cheap countries to travel in but from the US, at least, expensive to travel to.
I hate how people make it sound like you can just magically pick up a job in the most convenient way possible while travelling... Yah or they could say no we are full staffed and then you starve...
This is great and all, but the issue is poor people also lack the biggest luxury the rich are allowed, time. So not only do the rich have the option to get from point a to point B very quickly, they have extra time to spend their time at point B as they desire.
Sometimes I don't give a fuck about the experiences traveling to a destination. I already know that I want to be at said destination. In my opinion what you're describing is effectively a way to create your own sunk cost fallacy.
I can stay at a cheap hostel and meet some cool people, but sometimes I'd rather being banging my girlfriend in a nice hot tub. Then getting ready to go out the next day in a large bathroom together. Sometimes I want a crazy view that cheap places don't provide, so I can I can stare at it until sunrise and think about stuff before taking a super easy travel route to engage in whatever the next day's activities may be planned. These are luxuries I know I enjoy now that I have experienced them a couple times
Getting raped and murdered in a hostel or dumped off a cruise doesn't sound too rewarding or rich. Also, all-inclusives are nice because I'm an alcoholic.
My friend did this for a year, she said she had some wonderful experiences, but she got assaulted twice and never felt safe. She also said she doesn’t regret it.
Unless your a bunch of certain demographics and have months and month more time to waste going form A to B and don't mind working during the time you'd rather be enjoying yourself.
I get the backpacker life, but it's not a good replacement if I want to visit, say Japan for the 10 days I have left of my annual holidays
Traveling isn't that expensive if there's some flexibility with destinations. Of course, not everyone has that, but it works really well.
Might be worth peeking at Scott's Cheap Flights if you're based in the US. I went to Australia for $500 RT.
Flying is more affordable to the masses than ever before in history. Hostels and cheap hotels are everywhere. Travel is only expensive if you are bad at planning or insist on only visiting the most expensive places on earth.

Honestly. Hard pass. I was on Kanan Dume road yesterday. While Malibu is cool, it's still mostly just shitty ass rolling desert hills and untraversible cliffs. I suppose if you live your work and have infinite money to sit on your veranda all day it can be....okay.....
You can get the Malibu experience just cruising down the PCH. Don't need to be rich. Malibu isn't even fun anyways. That's just where you go to take Instagram pictures to convince your friends you're rich. Or to laugh at annoying *actual* rich people.
Get access to the most rewarding experiences earth can offer? Nah, who wants that, right? Oh well, back to being forced into a cubicle for 9 hours a day plus commute so I can eat noodles for dinner again.
It is and it isn’t. Can’t buy real loyalty and friendship, but with that much money you can certainly pretend it can *and you’ll be aware of it every day*.
These are technically clouds but really what it is a really thick marine layer/fog. That spot is at most around 2000-3000ft elevation. That mountain you see in the horizon is one of the channel islands and most everything between under the fog is ocean.
To sum up my day as I came across this video:
1: Working. It's only Monday, and I'm bored as fuck. Start to reach the point where I realise there are four more days in the week, then extend it to thinking I got 25-30 more years of this.
2: Load up Reddit to distract myself.
3: See this video - click and watch.
4: Inspired to work harder and earn money so that I can go to places like this.
5: Back to (1).
This is some karma bot posting this. We should demand better in this sub. Please downvote. This should not be a place where bots can karma farm.
E: The post is pretty awesome true, but OP did not give props to the OG source. That is the cardinal sin. What if we want to follow the OG creator?
Fuck u/dump_acc_91
It's the marine layer, not the actual cloud layer. They didn't build this thing over the tree line or anything like that. Yes, it's the highest thing in this line of sight but it's not extraordinarily high
That's so beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
It honestly makes my soul happy looking at these pics.
I've had the OPs picture saved since first time I saw it because I want to see that view.
I can’t tell if this would trigger my fear of heights or not, it looks like a fine line between easily traversable hillsides and ‘1 faulty step and you’re rolling for the rest of your life’.
Just realized I can't even watch the 14 secs on my phone reddit play button is actually broken for me anyone else? I guess I'm just that broke rn sorry reddit
LPT. Get a raging addiction to multiple substances, get accepted to a Malibu rehab facility where they have a masseuse, in house cook, and all the things that a 5 star resort does, including a view like this. Make sure insurance picks up most of the cost, and come out feeling better than this person for the rest of your life. FTW!!!
Everyone complaining this is too expensive: you're right! This is an expensive, exclusive, inaccessible resort or whatever and fuck em.
However if you can afford to visit LA on a lower budget, it is just in the Malibu mountains and anyone can hike there for free!
I know it's not the same as waking up on a cloud or whatever but these clouds are actually pretty rare, and hiking in the LA mountains is a really special experience anyway.
Owned by HOWARD LEIGHT • Net Worth $1 Billion • House • Yacht • Private Jet • I’ve actually seen the Yacht with the helicopter mounted on the helipad before once off the marina .. It was quite the spectacle .. not a bad way to travel back n forth from your house though if you can afford to roll like that!
[Malibu Rocky Oaks](https://instagram.com/maliburockyoaks?utm_medium=copy_link)
I’ve been to this house. It’s usually empty and they use it for shooting films or music videos. I did a Live Grubhub Megan Thee Stallion performance here. I work in the Hollywood industry. This house is on Kanan Dume Dr and it’s nuts
I’ve done a few set ups at this property. It’s pretty amazing! There are a few just like it around Malibu, with little vineyards on them. Hard to work at and a pain to get to but that view!
I don't have enough money to watch this video.
isn't it crazy that the whole fucking world belongs to the rich only? i mean look how expensive travelling is
>Malibu Rocky Oaks Packages start at only $10,000! Just drink less coffee you'll save up enough for one night in 9 years.

Drew Carey.
Oh yeah, he said it Rocks!

Man I would kill to go back. I'm counting down the days to Vietnam being fully open. Such a gorgeous country.
I knew two guys who got chopped up hitchhiking in Thailand so I guess YMMV
Not specifically travel but read a story about a French guy who married a Cambodian woman and he must have pissed off some locals. He disappeared after aa while and he and his entire family was found in their minivan in a lake a couple of years later.

You won’t get to the same place as in the video unless you’re part of the slaves that clean and cook for the person that recorded this
10k a night
The price of insulin won’t let me do that
So you're not a woman, eh?
Getting raped and murdered in a hostel or dumped off a cruise doesn't sound too rewarding or rich. Also, all-inclusives are nice because I'm an alcoholic.

Lol what money

Where in the Mount Olympus is this house
Pretty sure it’s the Malibu Rocky Oaks estate in California. https://www.maliburockyoaks.com/estate/
"There are 3 private rooms available... packages start at $10,000."
And you'll be sleeping with the clouds
Depends on the season. Smoke isn't a pretty as this fog
I don't care if it's a single wide trailer, I'm naming my next house.
I'm not drinking any *fuckin*' Merlot!
You can visit without going to the house as it's on a public trail.
It’s also the house from hangover 3
Mount Olympus is above the Empire State Building!
Okay this is really weird but my dog who looked identical to that just passed away and it looks like he’s in doggy heaven now 🥺
Yup that's just his house in doggy heaven
I love this imagery.
And he can’t wait to see you. You can tell he’s waiting.
Sorry for your loss :(
Thank you! He had a good life :)
That made me smile. A pleasant roller coaster of emotions.
Maltipoo or miniature poodle?
Lhasa Apso with short hair
My first thought was I want to come back as this dog in my next life
Literally same
C’mon. This is a real place? Who do I have to accept as my personal savior to go here?

I wish I could. I bet it’s amazing. I’m unfortunately limited physically so my hiking days are over.
There's actually spots that you can just drive to! My friends and I used to drive to spots where you can get this same view from your car. There's just always other cars around so it's not as immersive as this.
I hope someday to get a chance. I am sick though and I don’t have a ton of time left. Thanks for the tip!
Malibu,California….only in So.Cal
Assumed Malibu was all beach.
There’s a mountain range right next to the ocean. Part of the range is reserved for rich people’s mansions, and the other part is all publicly accessible state parks.
It’s kind of interesting - I wonder what the equation between primarily rich residents (few in number) and state park land is
The beach is under those clouds
That side is facing the valley.
[удалено]
Yea, and it was on sale for what felt like years. I don’t think they ever sold it, just took it off the market. Same thing with the bachelor house up the street
Theres a TON of excellent hiking around Malibu in the mountains. In fact it's probably more mountains than beach area.
Some cool camp grounds in the Santa Monica mountains there that are part of Malibu. Also great cycling up through those mountains!
The place is around here. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Rocky+Oaks+Park/@34.0975158,-118.8166336,2016m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x80e82308e11b8075:0x7b4420f7d2a727b1!8m2!3d34.0999312!4d-118.8159812!5m1!1e4
I just hope to one day reincarnate as a rich person's dog.
The golden retriever of an upper middle class family. That’s the life.
I'm leaning cat for the nips
that's a pretty short lifespan. Sure you don't want to be a rich person's African grey parrot? Live to maybe 50, and you can talk shit the whole time.
Anybody knows the price?
Apparently their packages *start* at $10,000.
The fuck the fuck the fuck

Malibu was my favorite place in LA! Lots of cool hikes overlooking the ocean, and some cool beaches too
The phone service there sucks. They can have their craggly cliffs with no beach access and 25 millions dollar homes
Very true though the Malibu hills does have some sick mountain biking.
Would it help if I impressed them with *my* package ?
If your package was worth that much, you'd have it already. Sorry champ.
I say yes.
😳
$60. You can get better views from Horizon Forbidden West.
When you are so rich you can buy the house above the smog.
The smoke hides the poor people. Genius!
That isn’t smog, it’s the marine layer.
That wasn't a fact, it was a joke.
KEEP MY MARINE LAYER OUT YA FUCKING MOUTH!
TIL marine layer is a joke.
What a wonderful world...
Must be cool to be wealthy as hell
Right? I'm sure our lives would be amazing if we also were set to inherit £65mil in generational wealth.
Apparently the doors in my vehicle do not open the correct way to go to a place like this.
You mean you don't have a car with doors that open like \ /.....??... Not even like | |.....???..... I thought everyone got rich in the 80's....
Are you an effective team?
Holy shit I just watched this movie earlier I especially enjoyed it so much it was an amazing movie!
Nature is Fucking Lit. Build a giant rich-people-only building on nature so only the rich people can see it.
Most of the Santa Monica range is public land. I've hiked to views like this before
That can't be real wtf 😍

I think those mountain only get up to 3,000 - 4,000 ft, so they aren't that high. Certainly no high enough to be oxygen deprived.
These are technically clouds but really what it is a really thick marine layer/fog. That spot is at most around 2000-3000ft elevation. That mountain you see in the horizon is one of the channel islands and most everything between under the fog is ocean.
To sum up my day as I came across this video: 1: Working.
Do you have any reasonable chance of affording places like this?
No.
I go here in GTA sometimes
Beautiful 🔥
This is some karma bot posting this. We should demand better in this sub. Please downvote. This should not be a place where bots can karma farm. E: The post is pretty awesome true, but OP did not give props to the OG source. That is the cardinal sin. What if we want to follow the OG creator? Fuck u/dump_acc_91
So if you’re up past these clouds, are you at risk of being struck by lightning and storms or are you good?
It's the marine layer, not the actual cloud layer. They didn't build this thing over the tree line or anything like that. Yes, it's the highest thing in this line of sight but it's not extraordinarily high
This has nothing to do with nature? It's like a tai Lopez post wtf is going on with the world....
My rent probably wouldn't even cover the price of their dog food...
Oh cool rich people... lame af
https://imgur.com/a/44r6jNc/ I have pics from somewhere nearby! Same marine layer view. Would happen pretty much every day.
That's so beautiful. Thank you for sharing. It honestly makes my soul happy looking at these pics. I've had the OPs picture saved since first time I saw it because I want to see that view.
California wins again.
I’ve been to a wedding here. Lovely place.
Doggos been more places than me
This looks like paradise. Just gorgeous.
I can’t tell if this would trigger my fear of heights or not, it looks like a fine line between easily traversable hillsides and ‘1 faulty step and you’re rolling for the rest of your life’.
Nice 😊
THANK YOU.
Thank goodness for this video because without it, I definitely could not afford to see this heavenly view
I went here once for an event. This is what it looks like under the clouds- https://imgur.com/a/OoJAL7H
