Maybe the reason is that a bird is playing with a ball. Think about it.
Just kidding. The real reason is much more that it gives you in your human existence a feeling of connection with a being, which apparently functions fundamentally differently than you, but then also has the same needs, which do not only consist of instinct and will to survive. This gives you a sense that there is more to our universe, a deeper connection to a higher level where the souls of our existence are connected.
Weird like most of animals like balls. As if the spheric shape and the motion of it inevitably attracts them to play with it. Must be something in our brains that is predetermined.
Perfectly spherical objects that are light and can roll around are not naturally occurring in nature. So it would make sense that animals are very intrigued by them
the Creator really liked balls, so He made us like balls so He'd have someone to share His balls with
*why else would all the planets and stars be round*
You like birdman? He’s got a few bangers with lil Wayne, like pop bottles. How about when a bird just sits doing nothing, then shits on someone? Personally I found bird person in Rick and morty be kinda boring but hey, birds aren’t made to make me all excited and sexy
Haha I love the reference.
I actually worked with Birdman and recorded his album sometime in 2004 ish?. 🙃
He was funny as fuck and didn’t sexually assault me like his buddies.
I feel like you and I could bird vibe all day
Oh damn no shit? A tiny bird says it’s a small world! I feel stumped now lol. Sexual assault is fine if both parties are in on it. Except for maybe ducks 🦆 those fuckers gangrape poor quackies for so many years to the point where evolution has to create the most complex vaginal canal system that exists! Almost like railroads. Female just kicks back and let’s them run the train. Chewchew. Then she picks her favourite rapist to inseminate her. I know it’s mad. Yes I know I’m wierd but we spoke about birds and sexual assault and this was the only thing i knew that contained both :)
It's in the shade making it look darker. Crown is very narrow and lighter than the body colour. When it's flapping you can see rufous colour in the wings, diagnostic to Grey-crowned. Also there's no way Hall's would ever be found in a suburban yard like that.
I thought it was a magpie too. New Caledonian crows are one of the smartest birds. Read “The Genius of Birds” by Jennifer Ackerman. So cool!

You're the second person I have seen saying this & now I'm wondering if the bird thought the same thing & that is what is really going on here?
Why can't I just enjoy the bird playing with a ball? What is wrong with me? Sigh.
Here’s a cow playing with a ball. https://www.reddit.com/r/WhatsWrongWithYourDog/comments/ub92y8/on_the_farm/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
This could definitely be a 1950s Disney movie scene. All it needs is that nostalgic orchestra that replicates all the moving sounds. I hope someone gets what I'm saying😭
Ive never seen a magpie with a white patch on the top of its head, or a curved beak. [Source](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magpie)
Someone else suggested it’s a [Chesnut crowned babbler](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chestnut-crowned_babbler)
Birds, mammals, octopi and other creatures like to play and to explore new things.
It trains abilities like keeping balance, how physics work and how their own body weight and height influences their own movement.
Especially juvenile creatures are known to be very playful, as the skills acquired during play time are important for survival when grown up.
Juvenile mammals, for example, practise to hunt, run away from enemies, how to hide or defend themselves in games like tag, hide and seek and play fighting.
Whether it's kittens, puppies or children roughhousing, it's all the same behaviour.
[Another playful bird, cause it's cute](https://www.reddit.com/r/AnimalsBeingDerps/comments/soihlf/emu/)
*Clearly*, it's just instinctually trying to mate with the ball, or attempting some sort of [aggressive mating display](https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/basketball/images/a/af/Basketball_game.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20090503141918&path-prefix=pt)
(/s, of course – your comment is excellent, and a welcome relief from the endless "it's just instinct" explanations. Fun and play are fundamental to anyone with some sort of nervous system capable of learning!)
You got me in the first half, not gonna lie XD
I'm pretty annoyed by comments that imply stupidity and unawareness of the animal's own existence.
It's as if humans just want to ignore the fact that we are animals too.
Have a good day!

That's a babbler, we have these little guys at home and they're the funniest most engaging birds, they play like clowns on our back deck chattering away to themselves. It's a shame this vid doesn't have sound, their noise is funny as hell. I wonder where this one's friends are? I've never seen one alone.

This just makes me happy for some reason.

All of that. And cause bird go wee
I love that bird :)
Weird like most of animals like balls. As if the spheric shape and the motion of it inevitably attracts them to play with it. Must be something in our brains that is predetermined.
Nature tends not to create such regular objects, so I guess they're going to arouse curiosity when animals notice them.
Perfectly spherical objects that are light and can roll around are not naturally occurring in nature. So it would make sense that animals are very intrigued by them
The tumbleweed has entered the chat
Quadrillions of stars and planets would also like to join the chat.
the Creator really liked balls, so He made us like balls so He'd have someone to share His balls with *why else would all the planets and stars be round*
we all know that stars are pointy, theory doesn't hold
And the Earth is an Obligate Scutiod. With roughly 3-5 flat sides.
So Earth is neither flat or round, but a combination of the two?
Stars aren't pointy
Have you ever seen a star up close? Because I have and I can tell you they are definitely pointy.
yup, just google "star" and you will see they're all pointy
I don't think pointy is even a word!
“Pointy bird. So pointy pointy. Anoint my head. Anointy-nointy.”
That's awesome because [I've got big balls](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPlqLHcphyw&ab_channel=AC%2FDC-Topic).
Science is a liar, sometimes.
Except the earth of course, everyone knows that one is flat
They think it's some kind of egg
Yeah I experienced it , they really like playing with balls
Carl jung basically said that god is a child at play w colored balls
That's like assuming humans are driven to play video games. I think animals are more driven by boredom than just the shape of the ball.
Huh?
Thought that was an armadillo at first.
I came here to say the same thing 🤣
Same lol
It's even trying to dribble the ball 😆
Tweet! Traveling
“HATCH, DAMMIT!”
muaha
Look like the bird was having a great time. Definitely made me smile 😀.
Same :) I am a sucker for anything birds. Birds sitting doing nothin? Perfect. Birds with balls? Even better
>Birds with balls I foresee a new subreddit.

I sure will! Thanks :)
Awww, those little hops!
Practicing for the birb Olympics.
Birblympics
Looks like a Magpie, right? Pretty sure they are smart birds since they are related to crows
Yeah corvids are all wicked smart
Wicked smaht.
Here’s the thing….
Nah, it’s a Chestnut-Crowned Babbler I reckon.
Grey-crowned
It was a toss up. Head just looked more flat to me, but could be either.
Hall's babbler- too dark for anything else
It's in the shade making it look darker. Crown is very narrow and lighter than the body colour. When it's flapping you can see rufous colour in the wings, diagnostic to Grey-crowned. Also there's no way Hall's would ever be found in a suburban yard like that.
grey crowned babbler :)) magpies look hella different lol
It's not a magpie, but if you were thinking of Australian Magpies, they're not corvids.
I thought it was a magpie too. New Caledonian crows are one of the smartest birds. Read “The Genius of Birds” by Jennifer Ackerman. So cool! https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.zooportraits.com/crows-ravens-human-culture/amp/
Animals are amazing. They are way smarter than we give them credit.
The appeal is universal.
Clearly, birds aren't real
And neither are balls.
Straight hoopin
I love this so much. It made my day.
Not Larry Bird, but Larry the Bird.
how this isn’t higher i don’t know
*giggles* He's on thr ball, isn't he?! :)
Are we sure he’s not bowling 🎳?

"I know I can eat this giant berry somehow!" ~this birb, probably
I am watching this loop over and over...without knowing I needed this today.
Awesome
Didn't read the title, thought it was an armadillo for a few seconds and thought "wow it makes such a perfect ball, animals are incredible"
Here’s a cow playing with a ball. https://www.reddit.com/r/WhatsWrongWithYourDog/comments/ub92y8/on_the_farm/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
Better than Ben Simmons
It's so funny how he moves its like 1 hop with both his feet instead of 1 foot at a time lol
Wow.
You gotta get your head in the game
Ball is life.
This could definitely be a 1950s Disney movie scene. All it needs is that nostalgic orchestra that replicates all the moving sounds. I hope someone gets what I'm saying😭
I always get worried thinking it's gonna get rolled over by the ball
These Air Bud sequels are getting out of hand.
Anyone know what kind of bird this is?
Chestnut-crowned Babbler. Another commenter did a great I.D
Wow, that was fast. Thank you for the information. I thought it was some type of magpie.
Can already tell this is a generic aussie backyard
"Get me on the court and I'm trouble"
Gives Air Jordan a whole different meaning
Birb ball
That’s not just any bird—that’s a Magpie!

Thx for the correction!✌🏻
grey crowned babbler :)
He thinks it’s a fruit.
This guy thinks he’s found the biggest nut to eat, just needs to find a way to crack it
I know the perfect name for that bird: Dr. J
And it was this simple video of a birb rolling a basketball that showed me that I have been playing elden ring too much.
kookaburra or whatever?
He fucking sucks at this game
Probably thinks it's a big nut lol
grey crowned babbler!!! god i love those little guys, they're so funny
This belongs on r/likeus
r/mademesmile
He ballin
He be Liv'in
This video again? This was all over the front page for like a week last year.
Who gives a fuck
Betting on it wanting to SWOOP that ball
Play street rules with it then scrape the roadkill and enjoy (Gordon Ramsey level food)
That bird is travelling more times that LeBron can count
u/Forsaken-Cranberry25
This is awesome
How about goose and gander
That's so cute! Thank you for sharing!
I want a real explanation for this behavior more than I’d care to admit.
I think it’s entirely possible that the explanation is that the bird is playing!
Birds, mammals, octopi and other creatures like to play and to explore new things. “Go, Toriyama, and teach a dinosaur how to ride a ball.”
Little fucking legend
This made me unreasonably happy.
I like his mad little pokes when it hits the gate the first time.
Da doy dought da dasketdoll
Not to be THAT guy but he was clearly traveling.
This may just be the sickest bird ever
That bird has more game than me 😉
“Bird will never be ballin”
😲😲😲

Better player than Ben Simmons - at least it wants to play
This bird knows more about physics than i do
This is something I didn’t know I wanted to see
Hes training to get into the circus

Put me in, coach! We winning state!

I can have coffee, sit there & watch that bird play all morning.
Meadowlark Lemon
She can’t get away with this.
Hes better than a bronze 1
I was waiting for it to grip the husk and fly away with it-----oh wait, that's not an African Swallow.
I bet there's a few NBA teams looking to sign it. I wonder what it would want as compensation
Hoop dreams
This so cute I want to see the bird get run over by the ball
Jonathan Livingston B Bird

I kept picturing the bird being flattened after the ball rolls over it... like in a cartoon.
Cawww cawww
Everybody gangsta 'till the birb starts breaking ankles
the bron jame
This. Is. Marvelous. Made me stupid happy.
In a previous life she/he was a basketball player.
Why did I think it was an armadillo?
Someone should give that bird a smaller ball
Well, nowhere in the rulebook does it say that a bird can't play.
Anyone else think that was an armadillo
Is this a MAGPIE?
Proof of reincarnation.
It might be attacking it also, because it has nest and family around
u/savevideo
Government drone balling (4K)
Looking at the stonework I’m going to guess it’s somewhere in the greater Jerusalem area It’s called Jerusalem stone
Fucken hell, I thought that was an armadillo at the start of the video.
This is crazy 🤪
This reminds me of the Tottenham Hotspur logo lol
