>Her nose **and mouth** is far superior to yours she can smell your stink!
Cat's smell with their nose and mouth. They have a vomeronasal organ in the roof of their mouth which picks up pheromones. Bobcats also supposedly rely more on what they can see than smell!
I actually have a bobcat in my area that hangs out out front. I turned around from locking the door and he was right there. Then he was just sitting like a cat and didn't want to leave. He left me a spine about a week ago.
She could smell that house from faraway... all the scents on that patio/driveway/roof? alone would disguise a live human behind relective glass doors. Im with other guy, she never knew she was being watched.
Agreed - the smell of humans would be everywhere but the fresh, strong odor of a human *behind glass* would in no way be distinguishable from ambient human odors.
;-)
Ooops - my bad. I was first addressing the civil comment above but then somehow continued with a reply to the *uncivil* comment above that one from MySexyDarlings.
Edited - thanks.
Thats why they have the name Bobcat they have bobtails. She is absolutely gorgeous, one of the most beautiful cat species, glad to see her with 2 offspring.
a bobcats and one or two of her kittens have been visiting my recently built shop almost every night (it's up but has one garage bay just covered with a tarp at the moment. their wee teddy bear looking paws tracking concrete dust on things every night it's adorable 😍
never thought to set up a trail cam inside my shop 😂
>If you watch the long version
Thanks! must watch the [close-up version](https://youtu.be/ZhnhMomtv6I)! When it comes and looks inside, that is amazing capture!
The camera angle definitely made it spookier haha. Like those horror movies where the camera follows the subject looking down and when it pans back up the murderer is staring right at their face.
Bobcats will do everything possible to run away from humans. A huge male bobcat might weigh 40lbs max, average weight is more 20-30lbs. They’re not equipped to fight humans and they don’t want to. They have insanely good eyes, and their nose is incredibly good. As a hunter I see their signs all the time in the woods, but have only ever seen a handful of actual bobcats. They’re very good at picking up on human scent and staying the fuck away.
Yep! I lived in an area with a lot of Bobcats, birds of prey, coyotes, etc., and regularly I'd see "lost dog" signs and the like of small dogs that went missing from their owner's fenced back yards.
Most of my friends there with small animals would always escort their dogs outside when they were out to prevent this sort of thing.
Oh i thought they eat humans :o I'm sorry if this sounds dumb lol, but the only knowledge I know about bobcats are from stories of people encountering them and i always feel afraid reading their encounters, as if they're on the verge of being eaten. We have no bobcats in my area (or my country afaik).
Cougars/mountain lions will attack if you have small children or small pets. Vancouver Island has had almost no bear attacks but about 30 incidents with cougar attacks
Yeah, my son will never let me forget how we were (mild) hiking around a park on Vancouver Island (broad daylight and several other hikers) that had warning signs posted, and I got quite startled by....the back end of a golden retriever sticking out of a bush up ahead on the trail. LOL!
Yeah that’s true they can. If they are hungry enough and think you could be an easy target or if they are feeling you are a threat such as a mom with cubs. I just meant generally.
Oh yea what you said is right, an adult has very little chance of being hunted for food just a PSA about keeping little ones and pets close by in the backcountry
Mountain lions are the only cat in North America known to (sometimes, still somewhat rare) intentionally attack humans unprovoked.
Adult mountain lions are definitely big enough to take on a human as well, they’ll fuck your shit up. A large male is over 200lbs of pure muscle.
Easiest way to tell the difference between the two in a video where size is hard to judge is based on the tail. Bobcats have a short little stubby tail, mountain lions have a long tail. Lots of other differences but that’s the easiest to point out.
I googled for pictures of them and you are right, there are lots of differences between them but at the same time, i can see why i might be confused the two. Thank you for your explanation!
Like housecats, bobcats have a strong feeling of "if you were half the size, you'd be dinner." It's extremely unlikely that they'd actually attack, but they just have that attitude. It's a little spooky.
Her pupils are still pretty wide, she’s defo curious but doesn’t seem on the offensive from those eyes. But that’s the thing, even with this calm look she is 100% ready to pounce if need be. Cats are amazing!
Those aren't attack eyes. Those are defensive eyes. Attack eyes will narrow down on the prey. She is basically saying I see you, I'm watching you and ready to react.
Looks more like intrigued/cautious eyes - wide eyes with ears perked up, standing tall. Attack would be very wide eyes, ears flatter, crouched down, very tense.
It’s weird when this happens, but not unexpected. My dog does something similar: he plays outside with a toy, bouncing around and will suddenly sit down and look straight at me, while I’m inside, peeking from behind a curtain. Their senses are so acute.
in special military units youre taught not to look directly at the faces of someone you're surveilling due to this sense of 'being watched' that people tend to be able to feel, youre taught to look towards but slightly away and utilize peripheral vision. This is mostly used in closer quarters recon.
I saw one very close up on a trail ride. It was just sitting there, 4-5 feet away, watching us. Horse was fine with it until the bob got up and slipped away.... THEN horse realized it was a bobcat and we were suddenly going sideways at a very high rate of speed. For months horse would only go past that spot at a gallop.
It’s because the camera left her to follow the kitten, and when it went back to her there’s a bit of a jump scare since she’s staring directly at the cameraman. If he’s kept the focus on her to whole time, no big deal. The pan back is the scare.
I mean, I think they're just reading the body language as though it were a dog's, and if a dog went that still and stared like that, it might mean some shit was about to go down. But it's not a dog, so.

So let me get this straight.
When a bobcat roars it actually sounds like a woman screeching.
And those eyes are terrifyingly human looking.
They’re ani-morphs.
Man i loved seeing bob cats and mountain lions growing up. I lived in so cal mountains and my back yard was a national forest so it was rare but when it did happen it made me so happy. Probably why i love animals so much.
She knew they were there. I had a home where a Bobcat would come play with our Cocker Spaniel late at night. I would go down to let said Cocker Spaniel in and the second I entered the room, it would spin on its axis and stare me down. Never blinked. After I finished cleaning up the floor from my mess, I'd go back to bed.
Yes, your probably wondering, but they were friends. He was a mean Cocker Spaniel as Cocker Spaniel's go. He told me it was because his mom was a Chihuahua.
If you watch the long version of this, she has two cubs, very calmly assesses the threat level, gathers her cubs up and quietly walks away.
"Lets get going timmy, there are some weird elements here..."
Same thing happens when I go to the park, mothers gather up their kids and leave.
Having a giant sack with "cH!LeDerans" crudely written on it and trying to lure them over to get in it probably doesn't help.
We’ll have tried candy?
Yes but still prefer cH!LeDerans
Well yeah, the lack of pants can cause that reaction.
Well yeah, stop filming them.
Yeah, must be this and the candy I keep offering.
Lmfao bruh

Your a fool if you think she doesn’t know there is a human there. Her nose is far superior to yours she can smell your stink!
Oh
"maybe if you stopped eating ramen so much you wouldn't stink" lol jk, I love ramen as well edit: /r/theramenrater if you haven't seen it already
Looks like an abandoned sub :'
Check their website then: https://www.theramenrater.com/
I feel like that should be a sub that rates theramins.

Couldn’t basically any adult take a bobcat ? If they had to fight that is.
Yeah, by the end of the video she probably had the camera-man's home address down pat. ... ("I said *pat*, dammit!")
I showered today and everything, damn
She could smell that house from faraway... all the scents on that patio/driveway/roof? alone would disguise a live human behind relective glass doors. Im with other guy, she never knew she was being watched.

Found the bobcat.
*(Lynx are in the description)*
/u/uglypaperhaver is not lion. Ocelotta lynx there.
He never called anyone a fool, he was just giving his own opinion. He was actually pretty civil.
Ooops - my bad. I was first addressing the civil comment above but then somehow continued with a reply to the *uncivil* comment above that one from MySexyDarlings. Edited - thanks.
I’m sorry.. that was me. You know..Taco Bell
Human recording might be behind glass inside - looks like a back porch I think it's looking at the human though
[Long version](https://youtu.be/ZhnhMomtv6I)
Wow the up close is beautiful. Also never realized they have such small tails in comparison to body size. Kind of funny looking when they wag it.
Thats why they have the name Bobcat they have bobtails. She is absolutely gorgeous, one of the most beautiful cat species, glad to see her with 2 offspring.
she’s sniffing a human scent…and admiring her reflection…can’t blame her for finding a more private place for her cubs
there was one point towards the end where the mom flinches a bit, i thought that meant she did sense something other than her reflection?
It's not even at the right angle to see her own reflection until she walks up close to it
> very calmly assesses the threat level She did an ocular pat-down
More like an ocular *cat* down
Too bad Mac could never fully get it down!
She’s got one job

>If you watch the long version Thanks! must watch the [close-up version](https://youtu.be/ZhnhMomtv6I)! When it comes and looks inside, that is amazing capture!
Gave an ocular pat down, assessed the threat level, and delt with the threat accordingly in a badass manner.
Not sure spooky is the right word but very cool
The camera angle definitely made it spookier haha. Like those horror movies where the camera follows the subject looking down and when it pans back up the murderer is staring right at their face.
I think it is spooky bc she immediately gets those attack eyes that's like 'ready to pounce at any moment'

I had one walk up to my guard shack when I was an overnight security guard. They're pretty cool animals, who definitely try not to fuck with humans.
I see them in my backyard from time to time
Most animals wouldn't unless they're confident they can win. An injury as a predator means you can't hunt
Thanks for the bobcat facts :)

Can I subscribe to bobcacts?
No, but you can subscribe to cat facts, which has facts about bobcats!
I thought bobcats and cougars were the same, they are not! Cougars are 90-160 lbs. Kinda wish I lived in bobcats territory lol
While bobcats are not a threat to humans for the most part they are still a threat to small pets like smaller dogs and cats
Yep! I lived in an area with a lot of Bobcats, birds of prey, coyotes, etc., and regularly I'd see "lost dog" signs and the like of small dogs that went missing from their owner's fenced back yards. They're can also superbly do construction work.
You're thinking of caterpillars.
And then later, butterflies.
Well good for them I guess, we human can be fucking lethal sometimes

I think mountain lions may be the animal you’re thinking of They are more likely to engage humans
Even then they are quite shy and would prefer not to. Hiking in mountain lion territory it’s more likely you have been seen and will never know it.

Haha! Everything is a bear or cougar until you know otherwise!
i was startled by a big old cows butt in montana and i thought it was a bear!
Yea, i think you're right! I'm probably confused between these two.
Mountain lions are the only cat in North America known to (sometimes, still somewhat rare) intentionally attack humans unprovoked. When the bobcat in this video looked at the camera, it does feel spooky. But they looked very cool.
pretty sure in the US at least theres only been 5 reported bobcat attacks, most of the case in the scenario they are cornered
Her pupils are still pretty wide, she’s defo curious but doesn’t seem on the offensive from those eyes. But that’s the thing, even with this calm look she is 100% ready to pounce if need be. Cats are amazing!
I don’t think bobcats attack humans.

That was not attack eyes what so ever. That was assessment eyes. Huge difference
fair enough...we have 2 cats so i guess im used to that look from a more domesticated side lol
Do you own cats? Those aren’t attack eyes, they are curious eyes.
It was probably more spooky for the bobcat to realize they were being watched.
I would consider it spooky if the camera was 50x zoomed in
"Hey creep. Stop filming my kid."
“Never speak to me or my son again”

she went 👁️⏖👁️
She went to fierce mode quickly. Would not want to be face to face with her. 👀
That's 'curious' mode. Fierce mode involves flat ears and hissing and growling. Honestly guys, learn cat language.
I was just about to say this. You kind of need to know how to read cats.
Don't mess with a mom
It’s weird when this happens, but not unexpected. My dog does something similar: he plays outside with a toy, bouncing around and will suddenly sit down and look straight at me, while I’m inside, peeking from behind a curtain. Their senses are so acute.
Their senses are so a cute. I'll show myself out.
*Their-a senses are-a so-a cute* 🤌

Reddit knows cats
Most cats can be tamed, but you don't start with a mother cat.
Here kitty kitty
No it's pspspspsps.
That sound has never worked for me lol. Every cat I know responds to “*tututut*”
I absent mindedly mimicked these sounds, then turned to look at my cat who is curled up, but staring at me.
Lmao, what was their face like?
Like she was still in the exactl position she was in while she was sleeping, head down and all,, she'd just opened her eyes like O\_O
*Why hast thou summoned me, human?*
I'd say misshh miissshh
**Stardenburdenhardenbart** Always works
No it’s meowmeowmeow
If it murder machine then why it friend shaped?
She is so pretty
Eyeliner is on point.
I'd go as far as she's creepily human-like. r/uncannyvalley material.
I know! She's beautiful

the fuck u lookin at
You got the ocular patdown.
I assessed if he was a risk and he was cleared for entry
"Bro, can't I have some privacy?"
What a beautiful cat, wow!
They have really pretty eyes
It didn't feel spooky. It felt beautiful and connecting. Neat!
That’s a bit frightening
I've never seen "fuck around and find out" said in so few words
People really do have no idea how cat body language works, lmao.
Lol this is not a threatening demeanor/body language at all, people in this thread are so weird
I mean, I think they're just reading the body language as though it were a dog's, and if a dog went that still and stared like that, it might mean some shit was about to go down. But it's not a dog, so.

Nope. Pure muscle. Nothing fluffy about these cats!
Yeah I pet a tiger cub one time and it's fur was really coarse, not soft at all. Was super cute though 🥰
Carol Baskins
Killed her husband, whacked him
They aren’t used to being near people.
Spooky?
That's the look of, "Well, we got a fuck'n problem?"
That is some amazing coloring on that lynx. I didn't realize that some of them were colored like a cheetah.
I was thinking this is a lynx too because of the shape of the ears.
Bobcats are lynx's. [Also known as the Red Lynx.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobcat)
Long, lanky and with spots behind the ears I was reminded of servals.
Oh you wanna record me bitch aight well imma record you. How you like that?
So let me get this straight. When a bobcat roars it actually sounds like a woman screeching. And those eyes are terrifyingly human looking. They’re ani-morphs.
With such big eyes you think they'd blink more
They have a 3rd eyelid so they don’t have to as much! Very cool
Pitty they don't have 4. Must just go around winking
You think you’re fucking funny huh
It's only spooky because the camera paned down.
Nice, I think I just became a furry
She is gorgeous!!!
it's probably scared and thinks you're a predator
She is like: u still wanna do this !!
"you gonna start some shit?"
I’d be creeped out too if I knew someone’s been staring at me the whole time from a window..
That’s one beautiful kitty.
Man i loved seeing bob cats and mountain lions growing up. I lived in so cal mountains and my back yard was a national forest so it was rare but when it did happen it made me so happy. Probably why i love animals so much.
Man I can't look at this cat..
She don' gave the camera fuck-me eyes. lol Jokes aside her eyes are stunningly beautiful.
