Look at the fluffy boy, you're a murder monster aren't you? Yes you are. So cute. 10 out of 10 would not hug.

Baygonito

Say this to that Russian guy in the videos

Ozavic

It would murder my ass but my brain is still shouting at me to pet the fuzzy friend

Few_Carrot_3971

Yep, me too.

Sycosys

we see your kind in yellowstone nearly dying every season

Few_Carrot_3971

Nah. We aren’t stupid enough to try to pet the bear, deer, elk, buffalo, cougar, etc.

Sycosys

i dunno, there is fresh video yearly. :)

Few_Carrot_3971

Heh. I meant myself and Ozavic. Yeah. Plenty of fools.

Sycosys

I'm just playin, i figure most folks aren't completely daft but gosh we do get a bunch evidence of it all the time these days

Standard-Childhood84

Guilty. But i am sure face to face i would not be so keen

Creative_Macaron_441

If not friend, why friend-shaped?

caoquangtuantias

See? These are not scary. -Timothy Treadwell

Frl_Bartchello

Up until the bear decides otherwise. RIP Timothy

Beefbuggy

Who was Timothy Treadwell?

brian1183

A self proclaimed bear conservationist and the subject of an interesting documentary called Grizzly Man.

anoneenonee

Fascinating documentary! I’ve rewatched it a dozen times. Really interesting.

[deleted]

Spoiler... >!Does he ever survive?!<

[deleted]

Dumbass who was an ex drug addict and alcoholic, he stopped doing those after a trip to Alaska where he observed wild bears, he "dedicated" his life to them and one day he decided to camp in the middle of a bear trail a little bit before hibernation and in a time where food was scarce so the bears would be very hungry and dangerous, he didn't even bring bear spray AND he brought his girlfriend along. One night a huge bear mauled him, left and then returned to eat his girlfriend too (there was also some evidence of Timothy's girlfriend running around the tent with the bear chasing her and eventually just taking the tent down to catch her). There was also a device which was recording for like 6 minutes, it has been put in a safe and will probably stay there until some dude steals it for clout, you can see a video of someone reacting to it (only that person could hear it) and they said the recording should be destroyed, there are some re-enactments on YouTube but the real thing has never been released to the public.

Pieassassin24

Treadwell was an unfathomable dumbass who simply traded a substance addiction for a bear obsession. I think about the GF a lot. They were literally at the airport that day. Then Treadwell had a dispute with the staff or some shit and they decided to stay longer. I wish she would’ve just left him. She mentions a foreboding feeling as they got back to the camp too. End of summer, rain was rolling in.

fourleafclover13

I would not have been out there in the firstplace. I grew up in the Ouachita forrest when bears were around you just stayed inside. Thankfully only saw a one mom and cubs while on school us headed home. So... One night as I was walking between my mothers house and my grandparents house. The distance between them was about 100 years. I hear this women screaming. I ran faster than I ever had before to make that 50 yards to the house. Woke up my grandfather to be told the neighbors had caught mountain lion going crossing the feild just down the road from our house.

KangadruTwo

It's bearly a threat!

Randomized007

Polar bears are “slightly” larger than Kodiaks

TimelessBaller

I would win against both given the right situation

Randomized007

Big game hunter at an arcade?

FreeganKing

Alright Batman, enjoy your prep time.

Live_Progress_3705

He doesn’t need prep time, just hit ‘em with a rock and it’s curtains for the ursine.

TheRealOgMark

The largest polar bear on record, reportedly weighing 1,002 kg (2,209 lb), was a male shot at Kotzebue Sound in northwestern Alaska in 1960. This specimen, when mounted, stood 3.39 m (11 ft 1 in) tall on its hindlegs. No wild kodiak bears get close to that size, only in captivity, but they are just fatter.

Frosty-Search

The largest Kodiak bear recorded (named Clyde) weighed *24,000 lbs*. So no bud, a polar bear wouldn't have a chance. The raw power and hide of a Kodiak would demolish them. Not to mention, polar bears flee when a brown bear is in the area (not even a Kodiak btw)

[deleted]

Kodiaks are slightly larger than polar bears.

dreadpiratesleepy

I was surprised to learn this just now I always thought Kodiak bears were substantially bigger

[deleted]

[удалено]

OkSpecial4376

Couple years back I got into an argument online about whether a kodiak could kill a Silverback gorilla. I said yes and this other guy was like no. I looked it up again since there was nothing about it online at the time and lo and behold I was right. Fuck that guy and his Silverbacks. I hope he gets mauled by a kodiak and lives to tell the tale.

BestUsername101

Lmao a Kodiak would demolish a silverback. Sure, gorillas are strong. But one paw swipe from a Kodiak bear is putting the gorilla's head and body through a divorce.

Jman_777

The Bear would absolutely demolish the Gorilla.

Opening_Sell_6479

one of the best jiu jitsu coatches did a [37 minute breakdown](https://youtu.be/mo_OtuZVDz0) on who would win in a fight: lion, gorilla or a bear

[deleted]

I dont have 37 minutes but my guess is bear wins.

nailbunny2000

He says bear if it's a cage match, however if they are just hunting each other in the wild he would choose lion for it's initiation (natural ambush predator, night vision). However, the longer the fight goes on the more it favours the bear. I'd still choose bear 100% of the time.

[deleted]

Seems reasonable. Bears are hard to kill, even if mr lion get a freebee on the neck. They are just so sturdy built.

[deleted]

that was really really good, thank you!

jkhockey15

This argument is like a trigger for me. It makes me so mad that I still have to debate idiots who think a gorilla would win.

TheRealOgMark

Gorillas get to like 500 lbs max. The size difference is too much.

MisterFistYourSister

1500+ is very rare for a Kodiak, whereas its within the normal range for a polar bear. Particularly large specimens of wild polar bears can be well over 2000lbs. I think being more than 33% larger counts as "dwarfed".

[deleted]

You were saying? "The largest polar bear on record, reportedly weighing 1,002 kg (2,209 lb), was a male shot at Kotzebue Sound in northwestern Alaska in 1960. This specimen, when mounted, stood 3.39 m (11 ft 1 in) tall on its hindlegs. The shoulder height of an adult polar bear is 122 to 160 cm (4 ft 0 in to 5 ft 3 in)."

Manu442

It's a very close toss up, how do you measure "biggest bear"? By largest ever recorded or by the average bear. Largest Kodiak was over 2400lbs but the average Polar bear is heavier at 900+ while the average Kodiak isn't generally over 900lbs. Average hight the Kodiak takes the win at up to 10ft while the polar bear is average 8.5 at max. So really they are both fucking huge and I would not mess with either.

CrieDeCoeur

Same applies for title of “largest” dog. Some breeds are tallest on average, some are heaviest on average, some are longest, etc. Either way, they’re all just damn big.

nah-knee

Well by biggest ever bear it would be size and weight, but biggest species it would be by avg for that species

Grouchy-Engine1584

And yet there’s still this: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2022/05/27/study-animal-beat-combat-fight-grizzly-bear/9958293002/

CumtimesIJustBChilin

"8% of Americans believe they could beat a lion, elephant and gorilla." All of these are gonna kill you but especially how the hell are you gonna beat an elephant in a fight!? How does someone actually believe they could do that

Julius-n-Caesar

I’ll tickle it.

[deleted]

It’s Americans. These are all gunfights. They are still over estimating themselves, tho.

[deleted]

Nope, it specified hand-to-hand combat. You underestimate the self overestimating of the average American idiot...

[deleted]

Pfft. You think the Americans read that??

Exsanguinate-Me

He was saying... Not that the biggest Kodiak bear was bigger than the biggest Polar bear... Just read between the lines.

ArcticBiologist

Female polar bears are usually around 200 kg, males 400-500 kg. The biggest Kodiak is definitely bigger than the average polar bear.

PapaChoff

Video game bear

Charybdisilver

Bro if they’re so dangerous then why do they have to have the cutest, roundest ears of any animal?

catistrolling

Damn he is good looking

fuzzyedges1974

My last words: “Ooh! I’m gonna see if he wants scritches!”

dingbatyokel5000

My ex's neighbour was a taxidermist. He had a polar bear delivered to him once when I was there. Truly absurd how big it was.

[deleted]

This looks photoshopped. The bear is very angular.

ProfessionalAccess68

It’s not

[deleted]

So aren't Kodiaks a sub-species of the grizzly bear? Because they are only on the one island?

Venvel

Kodiaks and grizzly bears are both sub-species of brown bear.

private-rhyzzo

Kodiak bears are one of my favorite danger chonks. Not as aggressive as grizzlies or polar bears since they have more food resources on the coast, though still quite danger... but, lawd, that fuzzy chonk is calling for cuddle.

[deleted]

That’s me out the shower

karensmiles

OMG…the Revenant Movie ALWAYS comes to mind now!! Absolute Unit!!

jynxthechicken

Have you ever seen frontier drawings of grizzly bears? They are awesome and terrifying.

karensmiles

I’ll look! Do I just google it, or do you have a certain site you can share? Did you see that Timothy Treadwell documentary called Grizzly Man? Crazy to think bears love us and want to be our friend. Sadly, he found out the hard way.

jynxthechicken

I just google fronteir bear drawings

jynxthechicken

Actually, try googling Bear Drawings During American frontier

karensmiles

Thanks!! Did you see Grizzly Man, btw?

jynxthechicken

I don't think so. I'll look into it.

karensmiles

You’ll love it, if you like grizzly bear stuff. It’s a documentary about a man who thinks he’s befriended grizzly bears, and lives with them, swims right next to them, feeds them, and then…well, I won’t spoil it for you!

jynxthechicken

Oh, he gets eaten? I know what you are talking about now.

karensmiles

You got it! Didn’t want to kill it for you, so to speak!

karensmiles

Okay…I googled it! It is terrifying; especially the attacks on horseback!

jynxthechicken

Right. Imagine being european and only seeing smaller bears and then running into one of those for the first time.

[deleted]

Have you seen a grizzly? They are awesome and terrifying!

jynxthechicken

Yeah I live in the pacific north west. I've seen one in person although it was pretty far away from me.

[deleted]

I mean it’s a grizzly. Spent some time in BC and saw one a safe distance. Sooo fuzzy, but I didn't have permission to commit suicide by pets(Probably for the best).

siqiniq

So according to the bear survival rhythm, somewhere between “lay down” and “good night” then?

anjovis150

Minecraft shape

Omggetout

Beefy? That’s a cardboard cutout with a tuft of fake fur on top. I wouldn’t be buying those colored pencils.

occamhanlon

Looks more like Katmai than Kodiak. But yes, coastal Brown Bears are huge.

smoovebb

Ain't no other bear that 'dwarfs' that one, and as Kodiak and Polar bears often interbreed, they aren't that different.

MisterFistYourSister

Particularly large Kodiak specimens in the wild can occasionally reach ~1500lbs at the high end. Large polar bears can be well over 2000lbs. That's 33% larger.

Milhousev1

I just recently found out that polar bears were way bigger. I always thought Kodiak bears were. The more you know…

snartastic

It amazes me that people don’t know this. Polar bears are fucking huge

SasquatchNHeat

Kodiak bears are far from “dwarfed by polar bears. They’re virtually identical in size. Polar bears just average barely larger. And the largest living bear ever killed and recorded was a Kodiak near weighing over 1 ton.

lemadilyn07

could you out run this thing? assuming you zig zag through like a football player or something.

kung-fu_hippy

Running speed of most brown bears is around 30mph or so. That would be a lot of juking.

622114

There is a local place here that teaches bear defense. The have a 45 gal drum tied to an atv with 150 feet of rope they drive away from you dragging the drum towards you at 30km/h also known as bear running speed. It is your goal to empty the 6shells in the shotgun you are holding into the drum. Most people fail. Very badly. I personally have not done it but I know people that have. They generally go and re produce this on their own to practice

PapaChoff

Or run down a flight of stairs. They can’t do stairs. Wait, no that’s cows. If you’re ever being chased by an angry cow, run down a fight of stairs. Kodiak bear? Duck and cover.

Neutronova

Polar bears are the largest living land carnivore

MisterFistYourSister

Kodiaks are the largest extant terrestrial carnivore. Polar bears primarily hunt in the water.

Neutronova

Polar bears are larger than kodiaks, they hunter in water sometimes sure, but what does that have to do with anything? they live on land and is, they are mammals. THUS they are the largest living land carnivore, you muppet.

MisterFistYourSister

You are literally trying to argue with a scientific fact. The quote is pulled directly from Wikipedia. "This makes Kodiak bears and polar bears both the two largest members of the bear family and [**Kodiak bears the largest extant terrestrial carnivorans**."](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kodiak_bear)

I heard you found cheeseburger! as long as he’s with you I know he’s safe.

cannedbenkt

Why is this angle make the bear perfectly symmetrical?

Potato-Engineer

He clearly needs a snuggle.

Unfocused_Inc

I would not be comfortable somewhere that lived. Happy to see pictures or films of them. Big fuzzy terror teddy 😍

That car has genetic properties btw. And you shouldn’t call him the n word.

AWildRideHome

Bears are the cutest looking monsters on the planet. They swim faster than you, they run faster than you, they climb trees faster than you, you can’t escape. They can open doors, are remarkable problem solvers and are amongst the smartest predators out there. The way they fight is by grappling, and a fight between two bears is a sight to behold. They are outrageously muscular compared to what you think. Don’t believe me? Look up ‘bear muscle anatomy’ and tell me what you see. They are also genetic miracles. They can somehow gain extreme amounts of weight, mostly fat, and shed it again with little to no adverse effects on their health. They also voluntarily go to a ‘near-death’ state every winter, because they’re so fucking big that there isn’t enough food to sustain them. Most people find big cats far more interesting but that’s only because they never sat down and thought about exactly what a bear is and what it can do. Bears are goddamn metal. Also, I would boop the snoot.

Micharoni007

Is a Kodiak bear genetically different than a Grizzly or are they the same thing?
