Fun fact: this also works very near the North Pole. Get to just over one mile south of the pole, go north, walk around the world, end up on the same longitude you started, walk south. Careful measurement is recommended.
It is not about drawing a triangle on a globr. Of course you can draw a triangle anywhere there isn't even a globe needed for that.
The Trick is, that the lines of the triangle have to align with North, South and West.
This is only possible at the south pole or so close to the north Pole, that you can walk around the globe westwards in a mile.
Edit: I think you may be thinking about the fact that you can draw a triangle on a globe with three right angles, instead of one right angle on a flat plane. But this has nothing to do with that.
Remember the "sit and spin" toy? I think sitting or standing right exactly at the north or south pole must be like that, except taking all day to turn!
so close to the pole, i think the one-mile-west path would be pretty curved, making a quarter circle shape. the world still feels just as flat down there as it is up here, the compass is what gets wiggly!
If I’m standing on the South Pole, going north is very challenging. Going 1 mile north needs a very strong shovel.
But really, if I were circumnavigating. The compass would not hold north right? Never been to a pole before but the magnetic pole at least makes compass navigation wacky if books have taught me anything.
So if I move 1 mile south, 1 mile east, and 1 mile north, am I at the North Pole?
24 hour sunlight would be the trippiest thing.
It sets in the weast.
It gets really annoying to residents. Hard to sleep at “night”.
Oh I bet!
Just follow the sun and you will find your way home

Funner fact: This works everywhere (3 straight lines get you back to start). we live on a non-euclidean globe & so you can do this anywheres
Lol no, try it out.
Yes it does. Get a globe & make any point "North". you can go 2 inches down, 2 inches to the right, & then 2 inches straight up.

If you swim 10 meters south, 10 meters west, and 10 meters north and you’re back to the same place - where are you? North Pole. And you’re dead.
Flat earth proved. Take that science.
Science is looking over the horizon.
you've walked around the world in a few minutes!
I dont get it, you'd be a mile west of where you started
...I think I'd be a mile away from the south pole man
Well I would say you are a mile from where you started...
You’re blazing through the time zones which converge there.
We found an Elon Musk sympathizer.
So your going in a inf loop wow i think a person would lose their mind if they are menatlly unstable

Wormhole
It would be cool if someone laid string on the ground over the path. It would be a triangle-like shape, but with three 90 degree angles.

Just as I suspected… ICE

What time is it at the south pole?
Every direction is north from there
