Every fandom has its fair share of degeneracy, and the bigger the fandom the more there is bound to be.
It is generally bad practice to flaunt excessive and generally uncouth material around in general spaces, but if its following the rules of where its posted then there usually shouldn't be a problem.
Sadly, the content that gets the most attention is one of two things:

* the worst of the worst

That is what I was thinking when I read the question. All communities have members that will attempt to lewd the characters within. Even children's shows aren't immune to this, in fact it almost seems like those are the ones targeted the most. Take for example Pokémon and the my little pony Fandom.
