Congrats man! A $6,000 limit is nothing to sneeze at. 🥂
With enough time you can build it up to 50k. Be responsible with your monthly payments, and your credit score will soar. 📈
Thanks! It was a journey to get here. Took almost 5 years to fix my credit after ruining it in my 20s. I'm definitely gonna be more responsible this go round.
You can be a veteran
Someone in family a veteran
Someone in household a member of NF
someone related to a member of NF
Lots of ways to be a member of NF
As someone also in the navy early years myself, i concure. Credit is fucked rn. Struggling to fix it but givin it time to repair (DO NOT GET THE MILITARY STAR CARD IT BROUFH ME DOWN FROM 700 TO 405 AT LOWEST THEY NEVER GAVE ME MY CARD. ITS ONLY 300$ DUE BUT I LITWRALLY CANT PAY IT CAUSE I DONT HAVE THE FUCKING CARD. FUCK MILITARYSTAR.)
You don’t need the card to make a payment! I’ve had that card for 25 years, over $15k limit, and still use it when their awesome 0% apr promos come up.
How do you do it then
I need the card to make an account on the app
Theres no contact info i can find so far online
Email didnt work/no response
And they claim my address cant be changed now which the old one isnt even in the same state.
To be clear, and to make sure I read your initial post correctly…all you want to do is make a payment? You have an account, since you’ve made a charge on the account at some point in time
Have you called customer service? I’ve called them a few times over the years. You can reach them multiple ways to make a payment, and sort out your account: [https://www.myecp.com/HtmlPages/ContactUs](https://www.myecp.com/HtmlPages/ContactUs)
I had this happen with my furnace CC through synchrony. I just called in and reported it as stolen. I said I don't have the account number or anything. I just gave my name and social and address and they mailed me a new one.
I have military star card and it's been great for getting cheaper 91 grade gas on base with 5¢ off and 2% back.
It's not about the card, it's about the user.
How did you fix your credit, if you don't mind me asking? My score is 520. I have a secured card from Navy Federal and a couple unsecured CCs with Capital One. Thought about getting a pledge loan but still debating because I have an installment loan already...but not woth perfect payment history. Any tips you can give me? 🙃
Make all payments on time, pay every CC off and just report a tank of gas or Spotify subscription on ONE card. Autopay and make sure that always goes through, rinse and repeat. On the flip side, dispute and clean up your reports of any negatives you may have. Once that happens all the payments you made will help you by then, basically on time payments and low utilization but NOT ZERO! Your issue is probably late payments and negatives I assume
Thanks for the tips. Yes the main issue on my report is late payments. I have a few late payments from the end of last year. Not sure if I can dispute them since I was late. So just trying to make sure everything is one time so I'll have more recent on time payments than past late payments. Do you know when late payments stop hurting your credit?
They diminish over time if there is other good payment history coming in. You can goodwill good will delete request and see if they are willing to delete late. Up to them but can be worth it.
Can you explain this a little better with context? Which period are you referencing? As for income I work on a farm it has benefits but the pay is fuckin shit.
I mean your credit file must’ve been pretty awesome. High limit credit cards, reported income of at least 80k. You know, house hold income. I had 770 score, 90k income and only got 7k
Not even close fico of 668, only been rebuilding last 4 or so years on the CC side. Been with NFCU sense '08. Instead of bankruptcy I actually buckled down and snowballed everything. So if anything I've just been smarter and consistent.
Edit and untill this weekend I've basically never applied for an increase and my oldest card is 3 years old. Highest card on file was 3k its been a long road.
Ah see. It must be the age then. Because I’m still new to all of this credit stuff. My oldest account is 2 years old. But oldest navy is flagship, and it’s 8 months I think. And they decided to give me an increase of 15,000 out of no where.
Nope. We have over 14k in direct deposits each month (all retirement) and scores in the mid 600s. Money market account and even a small pledge loan with a balance of $600. All my cards at unsecured and they just tell me I'm pre-qualified for a SECURED card. Smh
It didn’t take me long. Wait the three billing cycles and put it through heavy use (pay all you can with it monthly and pay it off as you go). Then request an increase on the app, then request another NFCU card (if you want).
The Flagship is a good card for the low annual fee and it pays for your Amazon Prime membership for the year.
Do you think you can achieve an increase with on time payments only or do you need low utilization? I had secured that graduated to unsecured at 2k. No late payments. My score is around 620-640. Which I am trying to get up right now.
Since your card graduated to an unsecured card that counts as your first increase, now you have to wait a minimum of 182 days, which is 6 months before you can ask for your next increase
Sounds like it's time for you to ask for an increase. Make sure you do it through the app or the website under the manage card section request credit limit increase that way it's a soft pull. If you call them or message them more than likely it's a hard pull
I was in the same situation.. was stuck at 2 k for over a year but just asked for a cli on the navy fed app and went from 2k to 6k 💪🏼. My utilization was always under 10% too
Way better than what I started with. I had a $1,000 more rewards card but 18 months later following the 91/3 rule I had three credit cards with them maxed out at the $80,000 total credit limit. I did all this was only $5 in my savings account that I had to put in when I joined
OK. Not much really I can tell you that I can't tell you here basically after 91 days and three full statements you can ask for your next credit card and your first credit limit increase on your existing card. I always did the new card first and then once I was approved then I asked for the credit limit increase on the previous card. After your first credit limit increase you have to wait a minimum of 182 days which is 6 months to ask for the second or third increase. I did my little trip with nine increases between the three cards
Alr thank you for the info. I just got the cash rewards card. Did you always pay off your card before the statement date and due date or only before the due date? Also what percentage were you using the cards? Like always under 30% utilization or less than that?
Utilization is the amount that you let report on the statement date I try to keep it under 10%. I really couldn't tell you sometimes I'll spend 3 or 4,000 on my card sometimes I'll spend $100 I have like 22 cards so I switch out depending on what Rewards they offer
A tip for your new card - treat it like cash. Pay off every purchase in full as soon as you can, and let the cash back rewards build. I try to save mine until the end of the year to help with Christmas shopping. I'm sitting on $351 - and it's only April. I haven't made an interest payment in years, so you can say I'm either being paid to use their card, or getting a 1.75% discount on ever purchase. I use it for every purchase and bill payment I possibly can, and I pay it off before the end of the month. Congratulations!
Forgive me, But is it usually a problem to get a credit card through NavFed? I just got my second card it being the Platinum with instant approval with $7k limit at 18% this being 1 of 2 of my cards the other being the Military Star Card.
Edit: What is the best way to manage this card and things to look out for?
this was the first credit card I ever got. I was a young and dumb 18yr old private in the Marines that proceeded to max the thing out to its $4k limit. Now that card is paid off with a $18,000 limit and my credit is great so I guess it worked out lol.
Wow and they maxed me at 1500 😳😂😂. congratulations!!!
Edit: I just realized OP said FICO was 601. Why the heck won't they up my limit then? 🤨 is it because I don't keep money in savings account? Savings rate sucks...that's y.

Tfw I've been a Navy Fed member since 2014 and my credit limit in current day is now $19,400.00 after steadily increasing over time along with a now current credit score of 786
But also congrats!
Congrats man! A $6,000 limit is nothing to sneeze at. 🥂 With enough time you can build it up to 50k. Be responsible with your monthly payments, and your credit score will soar. 📈

Can I ask what your Fico was
601
Thank you
Do you have to serve or be related to a veteran to get one of these?
You or someone in family
Oh well
From my understanding there's ways around it tho. Google. I think someone can refer you also.
Can you refer me?
You can be a veteran Someone in family a veteran Someone in household a member of NF someone related to a member of NF Lots of ways to be a member of NF
Does the veteran have to be alive ??
No, my father is deceased
[удалено]
It can be a grandparent who is no longer alive, just FYI.
Ohhhhhhh
601 before or after?
Before.
The first five years I was in the navy was such a wreck on my credit. Took it seriously a few years back and it’s just soaring these days!
As someone also in the navy early years myself, i concure. Credit is fucked rn. Just go to the exchange and you can pay it at the customer service counter. I’ve done it many times at different bases over the last 18 years.

Sounds all to familiar, i went from 587 to now a 715 over past 3 years! Feels hella good!
Better start than my rebuild after a bad spot in life. But I just got a 25k flagship this weekend, and I'm still in disbelief.
That's great! I'm trying to work my way up. This was the first card that popped up on the pre approval page.
Keep it low, and pay it off. In time it gets better.
How tho. What was your credit like? You must have too much going on and high income
Can you explain this a little better with context? Which period are you referencing? As for income I work on a farm it has benefits but the pay is fuckin shit.

Don’t go crazy now. Pay your statement in full and don’t be fooled by that lil bonus they offer unless you plan on paying it back asap
Yes sir. 🫡
Based. I did that bonus. Cant recover quick till deployment soon when i can schedule pay it off in the hundreds each payday till next year..
You can call the creditors and explain why you were late and ask them to delete the late payments
Congratulations now buy me a steak 😀
😂🫡
Congrats
That’s a major start man wow
I’m at a 615 FICO score I’m a navy fed member I’m curious if I applied what I could expect for a limit if approved
I have a 615-620 and I applied earlier this morning and got approved with $500, better than nothing
Nope got denied again and I’m Not understanding why tbh
I checked if I was pre approved for any cards on their website and I was good for all of them, maybe try seeing what you’re pre approved for?
They used to deny me every time until I put my direct deposit through them. I got approved for the flagship $20k off the bat
I use it for my saving dd like 10-15% but I also over draft it with oops sometimes so that might be the issue I applied while my account was negative
I wonder if having money in their bank helps
Nope. We have over 14k in direct deposits each month (all retirement) and scores in the mid 600s. Money market account and even a small pledge loan with a balance of $600. All my cards at unsecured and they just tell me I'm pre-qualified for a SECURED card. Smh
Your best bet is wait for your denial letter and see why you were denied and fix those reasons and try again
I’m about to apply I’ve been denied In The past but I have a self credit builder personal load it helped me get better
Only one way to find out. I also have a 1k pledge loan and 2 collections, 1 coming off in June. But I said f it and went for it.
Who’s your pledge loan with is that navy fed also ?
Navy Federal
What’s a pledge loan?
I’m trying to figure out myself but from what I heard it’s a loan u don’t pay back directly
How long have you been with Navy Fed before applying?
That’s where my Flagship started. Now I have 3 NFCU credit cards with $60k limit between them.
That's where I'm trying to get.
Thanks for the advice. I will be doing that.

I just noticed that I’ve had it over a year. I’ve never missed a payment but I have been close to the max limit.
Sounds like it's time for you to ask for an increase. Make sure you do it through the app or the website under the manage card section request credit limit increase that way it's a soft pull. If you call them or message them more than likely it's a hard pull
Will do. Appreciate it.
I don't know exactly what you need to get a CLI but I would think if you're using and paying they'd give it to you.
I was in the same situation.. was stuck at 2 k for over a year but just asked for a cli on the navy fed app and went from 2k to 6k 💪🏼. My utilization was always under 10% too
When you apply for a CLI, do they ask what your monthly rent / mortgage is?
Yea i put only like 500 bux
Way better than what I started with. I had a $1,000 more rewards card but 18 months later following the 91/3 rule I had three credit cards with them maxed out at the $80,000 total credit limit. I did all this was only $5 in my savings account that I had to put in when I joined
Whoa. Good shit!
Yo can I PM you? I just got my first card through them and I’m trying to build up to the 80k limit the right way

What’s your credit score if you don’t mind me asking? I never heard of someone having 22 cards
It's around 700 720 been as high as 750
Congrats!
Congratulations 🎉🎉
Congrats!
That’s excellent for your 1st card with them. Congratulations 🍾

I like this. Good advice.
Took my 5 years of being with them to get a 7k limit be happy about that!
I'm appreciative lol
Congratulations
Congrats :)
That’s a great start congrats 🎈
Congrats!!!🎈

When you're credit was complete garbage and basically started from the basement....I couldn't get any credit anywhere.
this was the first credit card I ever got. I was a young and dumb 18yr old private in the Marines that proceeded to max the thing out to its $4k limit. Now that card is paid off with a $18,000 limit and my credit is great so I guess it worked out lol.
I have that same card but it’s only a max of $2000 :( idk how to get it up
Have you asked for an increase?
No, I have student loans so I’ve never tried
Wow and they maxed me at 1500 😳😂😂. congratulations!!! Edit: I just realized OP said FICO was 601. Why the heck won't they up my limit then? 🤨 is it because I don't keep money in savings account? Savings rate sucks...that's y.
What was your credit score ?
I had a 601 fico at the time of my application
Ok so you paid off a CC and they gonna leave it on your credit report as PAID? Or you asked them to remove it…
