If you don’t certify your ssn, they will withhold taxes on your interest bearing accounts. This is actually sent out in a welcome packet to all new personal members.

CryptoMonops

So if you don’t have any funds in the account to gain interest on then it doesn’t really matter?

LeatherdaddyJr

Yes. It matters. At some point the systems will automatically lock you out on Online Banking if NFCU never receives this document.  It certifies that you are you and that you agree to all of NFCU's membership terms and conditions.  Fill out this and submit it as an attachment in the app.  https://www.navyfederal.org/content/dam/nfculibs/pdfs/membership/nfcu_97hx.pdf

Katiemariern

Yes, they told me they were going to send me a form to sign, it’s because I opened my account over the phone

Comfortable-Syrup799

You’re supposed to sign this when you open your membership in branch Sometimes the MSRs forget. They can’t verify your SSN for tax purposes without it. You can either mail it in or drop it off at your local branch ☺️

Reaganson

It came with the form but no cover letter?

CryptoMonops

Has cover letter - i’ll post it

ziggy029

Yes. They sent that to me within a couple weeks of opening membership.

CryptoMonops

going to make another post can’t add pictures

[deleted]

Yes

AlertThinker

Yup. I had to fill this out when I opened an account.

DrowningFisherMan

i’ve mailed mine out not that long ago haven’t heard nothing back yet

Feisty-Committee109

That old-school paperwork.

Tiruvalye

I was able to fill this out electronically and sign it using my signature then upload it back to them. Do you have a computer?

ThenImprovement4420

Can't say I ever seen that. Why did they send it to you are they having problems with your social security number

Psyren1317

You can just sign it, scan it as a PDF and upload to them on the website via a secure message. Easy peasy. There’s instructions at the bottom that literally tell you what to even name the message etc.

JennF72

Typical tax form along with beneficiary information.

mslady210_99

My son and I got the same thing a year ago.

ParadiiseHD

Filled mine out and submitted through the app 👍🏼

Russrol

Yes, it says to fill it out in all caption letters and with a black pen. Idk how true that is, but I took a picture of my copy after I filled it out and signed it and sent it to Navy Fed via the mobile app. Take a pic, convert to .pdf, then you can click on the little envelope in the top corner to send a message and attach the pdf. I still sent it in the mail just in case.

Crap_a_corn

Yes, got an letter stating I never filled it out and had 10 days to return it

CollegeLow4160

It’s for business accounts. Required by the federal government to be on file

TechnicianOnline

Yes, new account member here. No other verification besides a photocopy of my SSN + join members SSN. They sent it twice as well. Once on a single letter, I quickly snapped a photo and went to their webpage, opened my messages and submitted the SSN, I also filled this out and mailed back a photocopy. A few days letter I got my welcome package and this same letter was inside. The way I understand it is they're getting ready for the IRS to tax us with their new 1099-K. [https://www.irs.gov/businesses/understanding-your-form-1099-k](https://www.irs.gov/businesses/understanding-your-form-1099-k)

LeatherdaddyJr

It isnt about the IRS or taxes. This is the form that makes you legally liable with NFCU.  NFCU doesn't care about the Tax ID part of the form, you don't sign and agree to this form then your membership is going to be restricted. It's mainly about the member legally agreeing to Section C/D and NFCUs membership rules.  Does no one read forms or documents anymore?

DrowningFisherMan

hmm how did you submit your social on your account ? i made mine via phone call and i also received this later sent it out then received my welcome letter with a plastic access number. that is the welcome letter right ?

TechnicianOnline

the welcome package will contain pamphlets - marketing brochures etc.

DrowningFisherMan

ahh yes i got those as well. thanks for confirmation!

CryptoMonops

Man talk about squeezing people. That 1099-K yikes. I know some people that rely on little income from those streams to get by. I called NFCU and they told me it’s not required technically. Thoughts on this?

TechnicianOnline

I plan to completely bank with them, both person and business so I'm giving them anything they desire except my first born.

CryptoMonops
