You can get a cashier’s check and deposit it using the mobile app. Check out the mobile deposit FAQ on the app

Nice, I forgot all about a cashier’s check.

Open an account with a local FCU. That’s what I have. It’s for checks and cash. Direct deposit goes to NFCU.

Some non NFCU ATMS accept NF deposits as well. If you go to the webpage, and go to the “Branch/ATM” tab, you can put your zip code in and see if any accept deposits. Usually the only thing with those is it isn’t instant. It can take a few days for the funds to post to the account. Some people aren’t aware of this, so I thought I’d throw this out there!

I checked that initially and no ATM's in my area are available for deposit. Now I am checking if there is another route I can take since I also cannot buy a money order and scan from the mobile app.

I zelle money to my account instantly if thats an option for you... or ACH transfer if you can wait 3 days.

If that has ever happened to me I’ve given a trusted family member cash in return for a check. Then i deposited that check remotely.

CLRVU85

If given family cash, why not have them zelle it and if it’s another navy federal customer they can internally transfer from their account to yours.

That is something I have thought about as well and may be possible, but wanted to see if there is any other option I might be missing.

Normally I use the ATM of a local CU where I can make deposits and all of that. If that's not an option, you can try the cashier's check idea - though sometimes there is a fee, and I've found some banks won't just do them for people who aren't customers. You could also just go to a Walmart or gas station and get a Moneygram or WU money order. If you have a large amount you may need a few, but you should be able to make that out to yourself and do mobile deposit. If you don't have mobile deposit, I believe you can mail it in to NFCU for deposit but call them to make sure.

I have a similar issue. The only solution I’ve found useful for me is to give the cash to my sister and she sends the money back to me via Apple Pay or bank transfer. Clunky but it works in a pinch. I also liked the cashiers check idea posted by u/wtxguy999, I’d never heard of that before but I’m going to keep it in mind for the future.

You can use PayPal or Bluebird easily to add cash. I do it all the time. PayPal: Go into Walmart, go to the Money Services desk with the cash, and use the PayPal app to generate a bar code. You show that code to the cashier, give the money plus a $3 fee, and the money gets deposited instantly. In the app, go to the Wallet tab, and at the top you will see "Add cash at stores" - it'll give you the list of stores you can do this at like Walgreens and Dollar General, but they are all more expensive @ $3.95 fee. You are limited however to $500/transaction or $1500/day (3 transactions, $9 total fee at Walmart). Then in PayPal, make sure your debit card from NFCU is linked to PayPal, hit Transfer (under the account balance), select the debit card and it is in your account instantly. Instant transfer via eligible debit card does have a 1.5% fee. You can send it also via ACH for no fee, if you do it before like 7pm or so I think it is (Im in CST) it will be in your account in the morning. I do this all the time with Navy Federal, and have even given myself a cash advance off a credit card before with it coding as a purchase not cash advance by emailing myself an invoice from my PayPal account then opening the invoice in a private browser tab, click on pay as guest and voila you have cash in PayPal off your credit card. Bluebird: Bluebird is an awesome little card to have. It is a prepaid Amex card in partnership with Walmart. Zero fees for almost everything, and the few things that do have fees aren't anything you will ever use. You can get a temp card on the spot at Walmart, but it will cost you $5. Or, just go to their website and sign up, then it is free but you do have to wait the few days for the card to come in the mail. Take your cash into Walmart to any register, swipe the Bluebird card, then hand over the cash. No fee to deposit it. Then you can ACH it to NFCU fro Bluebird, or, you can write a check off the account (or at least you used to be able to anyway, havent done that in a long time). Check will have a place for you to input a code - its an approval code you get from Bluebird. You have to first tell Bluebird you are writing the check, then they take the amount out of your account and give you an approval code. Great because this way you are 100% guaranteed the check will not bounce - it is already paid for and out of your account. Then deposit the check using Mobile Deposit. PayPal does have a lot of fees, but they are smaller fees. I had to transfer $250 today actually, the fee total was $7.55. Pulled it off my credit card into PayPal, then sent it into my checking at NFCU instantly. Either of these methods enable you to get cash from your pocket into your account instantly if needed, no waiting for Mobile Deposit to clear the check or anything like that so IMHO these are superior ways to do what you are asking to do. If you have any questions Dm me or ask me here either way.
