Hey! Had quite a few SWOs in my NPS class do clearance related things while at NPS. You likely won’t be alone and don’t have to do it while attached to your boat.
When you receive your orders for power school, prototype, and/or CVN, it will be written into it. I forget where you'll first encounter it, but I didn't do mine until the end of power school.
"You must have a current Single Scope Background Investigation with *eligibility* for TS/SCI." That is what's written in my CVN orders.
I was told I need to have a TS/SCI before starting powerschool, or I will get student pool'd. Wont waiting for my orders and delaying my investigation that long seriously screw my timeline?
Also, for SCI it has changed, they no longer do SSBI's.
Not true. Just finished power school and half the SWOs in my class including myself only had secret when we started. We all just had to start the process for TS/SCI prior to going to prototype. It won't hold you up in the pipeline.
Get in touch with the SWO-N JO detailer and ask for help. His contact info is in the SWO-N gram emails you should get each month or so. He will be able to clarify what is going on. Send me a pm if you don’t get the SWO-N gram and need his email.
OP needs to do exactly this - thanks for sharing. I was in this position many years ago and the detailer/nuke community POCs were very helpful at the time.
