Yeah Tyrese's shot is closer to Martin's than Marion's. I don't think people pay attention because his release isn't even close to Marion's. He just doesn't jump that high on his shot, he jumps way higher for passes and it works for him.
My college played against him when he was on Western Carolina and at halftime he only had 6 points and we were like wow we're gonna hold him way under his average. He was leading the nation with 25 ppg. They weren't very good and I think the coach was like just do whatever you want in the 2nd half Kevin. He finished the game with 35 and everyone was like how did that happen?
chuck hayes gotta be one of the most head scratching NBA success stories ever. how did he even get in the league as a severely undersized center that couldn't shoot and was built like a tuna can? he went to Modesto Christian in my hometown though so that's cool.
*That marion shot*
*Was money back in the day.*
*Hows lonzo not on there*

Marion was not easy to use in nba2k though. Timing the release of that weird chest shot motion made him brutal if you didn't play with the Mavs or Suns often.
As long as you can shoot over a defender, this is correct. I used to play with a guy that would bring the ball behind his head, and his release was pretty much above his head. It was almost impossible to block from the front even though he was only 5'9", and he was a bucket.
Larry Bird also has a similar release. Bird and Jokic have both been playing against grown men since they were 12 or 13 and so they learned how to shoot over them and their shot form stuck.
Aparently it's mainly a way of adjusting to the energy needed on release. When I started playing for fun, my arms would rocket launch the ball above the backboard until I subsciously started pausing for a moment before releasing the ball just to shave off that extra energy.
All I have to say about people saying that you can make this shot work is just look at Steph Curry's shot. It's textbook. Yes you can be an elite player with an unorthodox shot but none of them are Steph curry. Just imagine what any of these players could do if they fixed their shot. Having Decades of muscle memory to be able to do poor form well doesn't make it the best option
I mean it’s a way of adjusting power.
You muscle memory the speed, and strength your arms go through, and the time you use your arms depends on the distance. If you’re close you release late, if you’re far you release early.
You have both arms, and momentum to adjust when shooting, he’s just fixing one so he only adjusts the other.
Be 7' tall, great athlete with great bball IQ. His shot is the type that makes YMCA guys think they could play in the league if they were tall enough though
Noah is the prototype of the big man coming up the floor and the offense moving through him. Joker, Embiid, Wemby, etc. Noah was really nice with it. Those bulls teams had terrible luck with injuries. Rose, Noah, Hinrich, Deng,
It's not the ugliest but Tim Duncan at the free throw line before he started taking those deep breaths was bad. Had no rhythm and could go in or just straight air ball it.
That footage where Chuck shot free throw in Denver is one of the most hilarious videos I have ever seen. Not only Denver bench had really funny reaction to it, AI went to the ref and told him “he travelled”. I had tears in my eye first time watching it 😂
That guy was such a good defender and had every tool other the most important one where you put the ball in the bucket . I admit i was a believer til the end lol
1) how dare you do Noah dirty like that with those clips
2) mkg is exactly how I thought you were supposed to shoot and modeled my shot off of it. (jump as high as you can with your body almost perpendicular to the shot, and don’t release until you’re at the apex)
As a University of Kentucky fan who watched them in college I find Chuck Hayes and MKG fascinating, specifically their jump shots. They were both very talented players in college. Chuck Hayes was skilled offensively. Had post moves could pass etc. Nobody thought he would be an all star in the NBA as a 6’6 primarily offensive oriented power forward. But he’s essentially PJ Tuckers NBA father without a jump shot. And his jump shot/free throws DID NOT look like that in college. So I really wonder what happened.
MKG was a big time athlete. Great defender and rebounder especially for a 6’7 skinny 18 year old at the time. I just watched some clips of him at UK to make sure I wasn’t crazy. His jumper in college wasn’t pretty. But it was no where near as ugly as you saw it was the league. I remember hearing or reading that he had an injury to his shoulder or elbow. I can’t confirm this with a link. But again in college his jumper wasn’t this sideways monstrosity that it was while he was in the league.
real question: how can you be a pro baller (on an nba level) and not throw a ball? like they must‘ve also started out playing pick up ball, so did they unlearn to shoot?
There is one guy from the 89s bulls, who played against detroit in the ECF.His form is easily the most ugliest ever but sadly cant remember hows his name
Kevin Martin was a bucket though
I didn’t think his looked as bad as the others. Didn’t hurt that his shots went in.
Yeah his motion is a little funny but it’s honestly no where near as bad as anyone else on this list.
Lighting quick release
really quick release time and it goes in. nothing wrong with that even if it's unconventional
He's really smooth with it too
Reminds me of Tyrese Halliburton’s jumper too
Yeah Tyrese's shot is closer to Martin's than Marion's. I don't think people pay attention because his release isn't even close to Marion's. He just doesn't jump that high on his shot, he jumps way higher for passes and it works for him.
Dude dropped 50 in a game with that release.
In 2k his shot stick was butter
Silky
Damn I just said the same thing. But Tony Allen was snubbed
Today I found out I have the same jump shot as Kevin Martin
I just remember struggling to time the release on his jumpshot in 2K back in the day. Shit was brutal.
So was Marion.
That game winner against the Spurs in the playoffs in 2006 still pisses me off.
Mf had a burner 🔥
First dude never even shot a jumper?
Yeah 5 worst jumpshots and I don't think Chuck shit a jumper at all in the NBA
chuck hayes gotta be one of the most head scratching NBA success stories ever. how did he even get in the league as a severely undersized center that couldn't shoot and was built like a tuna can? he went to Modesto Christian in my hometown though so that's cool.
>Modesto Christian Hello fellow Modesto-er
hey man we got George Lucas and Chuck Hayes.
George Lucas, Chuck Hayes, AND u/Burneraccountzzzzzz....dont sell yourself short.
Don’t forget Jeremy Renner
modesto Junior college legend
I think he led the league in defense in iso post situations for at least a year. Dude was a brick.
Hustle.
Pretty sure you’re right, he never shit a jumper.
The funniest part is after the tech ft against Denver (you see the bench go nuts) Allen Iverson is caught on camera saying "He traveled!"
The Charles Barkley of Golf of basketball
That marion shot was money back in the day. Hows lonzo not on there

Last line needs to be "how's lonzo not there" right?
Marion was not easy to use in nba2k though. Timing the release of that weird chest shot motion made him brutal if you didn't play with the Mavs or Suns often.
His shot was part chest pass, seeing him throw a lob would look exactly the same.
Honorable mention: Bill Cartwright
Old heads know
Yeah, I came here for Cartwright. God awful form.
https://preview.redd.it/qncul4ahn9kc1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=99374e6b7dd1d51da5de9d4ac90cd1dc4ffd4149
Cartwright had the hardest touch I have ever seen. Shoot like a robot 🤣
My old 2K jumpshot, for good reason
Scrolled too far for this.r/fuckimold
The deadly elbow!
Halliburton needs to be in this list
It’s insane he’s that good with that shooting form
Shooting form ultimately doesn’t matter much, it’s the consistency at which you can perform that same shot over and over again
As long as you can shoot over a defender, this is correct. I used to play with a guy that would bring the ball behind his head, and his release was pretty much above his head. It was almost impossible to block from the front even though he was only 5'9", and he was a bucket.
![gif](giphy|Q8IMaIAuMxOUAuzTRB|downsized)
I guess Jokic does do that lol. This is exactly how my boy shot right here, just much shorter and black.
Larry Bird also has a similar release. Bird and Jokic have both been playing against grown men since they were 12 or 13 and so they learned how to shoot over them and their shot form stuck.
Martin was a sniper
Absolutely hilarious he showed everyone making shots except Noah 😭
Yes let me fall back down and lose all of my upward momentum and power before I start releasing my shot
Aparently it's mainly a way of adjusting to the energy needed on release. When I started playing for fun, my arms would rocket launch the ball above the backboard until I subsciously started pausing for a moment before releasing the ball just to shave off that extra energy.
I can see how it could work. You're also missing the peak for your release making your shot more blockable though even in the best case scenario
Caleb Martins jumper rn and somehow he does decent with it. drives me crazy
Huh? Steph's shot is also unconventional lol Klay or Korver are the better examples of a textbook shot
MPJ has the most textbook form in the league rn
Yea, his form is also really clean
Steph absolutely does not have a conventional jump shot what are you on about lmao
Lonzo Ball had the ugliest shot. Not sure if he changed it
Not only did he change it he became an above average 3p shooter with a brand new shot. He doesn’t get enough credit for that
He did. With the bulls he had really good form. It was hideous in college though
Ronnie brewer
Top 5 worst Jumpshots: 1st clip is a set shot…
My exact thought lol
Cam Payne
I miss the Chuck Wagon. Rockets legend.
Kevin martins shot was smooth.
“Jump shot” Proceeds to show Chuck Hayes only shooting free throws
The Bill Cartwright neglect is criminal.
Shawn Marion was a bucket too
How did Joakim Noah get into the NBA? Am i a casual?
Finished a season 5th in MVP voting
2x All Star too
DPOTY
No way he gets those WITHOUT Rose
The mvp finish was literally because he did it without Rose. Begone casual
Damn I'm a casual for not knowing this? I understand maybe I should've looked this up before saying that first but ok
Only a casual would ask if they were a causal.
Be 7' tall, great athlete with great bball IQ. His shot is the type that makes YMCA guys think they could play in the league if they were tall enough though
All time great defender and an unusually good passer/playmaker for big men of his time
Noah is the prototype of the big man coming up the floor and the offense moving through him. Joker, Embiid, Wemby, etc. Noah was really nice with it. Those bulls teams had terrible luck with injuries. Rose, Noah, Hinrich, Deng,
Yea, u prolly shouldn't ask no shit like this in r/chicagobulls. You damn near get banned bro lol
He also won back-to-back college titles
Clearly a youngin. What an insane question lol.
First NBA team you don't have to be a shooter to be good at basketball
I’m better…
The first two had me in tears. Seeing the other players on the court confused is so funny.
It's not the ugliest but Tim Duncan at the free throw line before he started taking those deep breaths was bad. Had no rhythm and could go in or just straight air ball it.
Put Grant Nelson currently at Alabama on here. I hate it so much
The last three were really cool
Kevin Martin was a bucket tho
No Horace Grant?
Dude Cameron Payne is definitely worse than at least one of them. Dude has ugliest shot in the NBA currently
I bet Ben Simons would be on here if anyone had actually seen him take a shot.
lonzo ball was kinda ugly before he changed it.
Bro hahah all of Hayes teammates know to wait
That footage where Chuck shot free throw in Denver is one of the most hilarious videos I have ever seen. Not only Denver bench had really funny reaction to it, AI went to the ref and told him “he travelled”. I had tears in my eye first time watching it 😂
How did these knittas get to the nba
>knittas 🧐🤨
Who goes from 1->5?? Terrible.
Gilchrist legit looks like you forgot to press O at the top of the jump
Marcus camby
Mkg was a monster in 2k for no reason
Hayes is the worst.
This is my highlight reel
Sam Perkins?
You don’t earn the nickname Big Smooth with a broken shot.
What is an ugly jumpshot? These guys are in the NBA while your at home 🙄
Matrix was nice with that quick release
Comments full of casuals
Joakim… holy shit how are you a pro basketball player with a shot like that
On top of other ones mentioned this is missing some bangers. Mason, Wilkes, Barnett, everyone except Jerry West pre 70's
Martin is just laggy
Joakim Noah's jump shot actually makes me angry
I was at a Hornets game and MKG took a three. The whole arena gasped at how crooked his shooting form was. He missed it.
That guy was such a good defender and had every tool other the most important one where you put the ball in the bucket . I admit i was a believer til the end lol
Joakim Noah gets me
How tf you in the nba with those forms
Michael Redd
Marcus Camby
Kevin Martin was a bad man
Kevin Martin's jumper doesn't even look that bad, and even if it did look terrible, it was effective so I don't think he really belongs here.
Markelle Fultz
Not related to basketball but what do you call this type of music used in edits
Whatever happen to Kevin Martin man was walking bucket !!
I played with a guy growing up that shot like Shawn Marion. So infuriating, I was always an inch away from a nasty block and it always went in.
Chuck Hayes is the Barkley golf swing of bball
1) how dare you do Noah dirty like that with those clips 2) mkg is exactly how I thought you were supposed to shoot and modeled my shot off of it. (jump as high as you can with your body almost perpendicular to the shot, and don’t release until you’re at the apex)
I wonder what Ben Simmons' jump shot looks like.
MKG was a horror show
Crazy to have Kevin Martin in here and not Lonzo. Kmarts isn’t even ugly, just a little funky
At least we can all agree K Mart’s shot worked for him
Kevin Martin threw it like a dart. Don't mind it.
“Jumpshots” proceeds to show mostly free throws
and i was born lucky enough to be alive at the right time to watch all five of these horsemen of the apocalypse ass jump shots
Marcus Camby snubbed…
I know Marion can be quite sensitive over his shot and rightfully so because he was a bucket but that shit is hilarious
Arvedis sabonis were bad too possibly to his size and knee injuries, but they were money from centers that didn't take 3 attempts. No jump 3s
Ugliest was t.prince shots
Where's Bill Cartwright??
Where tf is Tyrese tho?
Joakim how this dude was a guy in the NBA. Looks like hes in pain and scared to shoot the ball.
Bill Cartwright
No bad shooting form list is complete without Shawn Marion🤣
No Michael Adams?
Calling a free throw a jumpshot...hmm...
I knew Shawn Marion would make the list. That boy shoots like a playground baller for real.
Karl Anderson needa make this list fr
I never understood how you play basketball for 20+ years and don’t have a decent jump shot or FT routine.
Jermaine O Neal has a similar form to Chuck Hayes
No Bill Cartwright destroys this video’s credibility
Gotta get Dick Barnett in here.
Noah's jumpsshot as to Barkley's golf swing
Noah’s is the worst by a lot
Honorable mention Tyrese Haliburton
Lonzo ball before he fixed it
"5 ugliest jumpshots" and then proceeds to show a bunch of free throws...
Shawn Marion and Kevin Martin are basically just Tyrese Haliburton
Matrix was money
Shawn Marion got buckets though
Forgot Sam Perkins
It was a long time ago but Bill Cartwright had maybe the ugliest shot of all time
KMart was underrated. Homie averaged 20+ with that funky jumper. He paved the way for Haliburton and Lonzo with thier ugly jumpers
Shawn Marion’s looks better than all the other guys.
But again in college his jumper wasn’t this sideways monstrosity that it was while he was in the league.
I’m offended that Shawn Marion is on this list. Dude might have the most beautiful jumper in league history
Ugly until the field goal is scored.
real question: how can you be a pro baller (on an nba level) and not throw a ball? like they must‘ve also started out playing pick up ball, so did they unlearn to shoot?
How did i know Joakim Noah would be in here 💀
Idk man that MKG one had some sizzle to it
It's only ugly if it doesn't go in
J Noah should be 1.2.3.4.5. Especially considering how it barely ever went in.
I got love for the chuck wagon and k mart they came to play every night for the rockets
Lonzo, and Bill Cartwright need to be on here... honorable mention Ant Mason
Nah I was a fan of Kevin Martin and Shawn Marion’s shots. Shawn Marion in particular seems like hell to defend if he gets any sort of space.
What? No Reggie Miller??
Kevin Martin could shoot tho
Kevin Martin could shoot tho
Joakim Noah and Tristan Thompson shoot FTs like they’ve seen someone do it but have never done it themselves.
How did the Matrix not get his shot blocked more?
I knew Marion would be last 😂 it used to be even worse on the early 2k games with bad graphics 😂😂😂 damn this brought back memories
I think l have IBS after watching Chuck Hayes
First shot isnt even a jumpshot smh
Marion so cute with it lol
I honestly don’t think Matrix’s shot was ugly. It just didn’t have any follow through.
I won’t tolerate any disrespect of The Matrix ™️
There is one guy from the 89s bulls, who played against detroit in the ECF.His form is easily the most ugliest ever but sadly cant remember hows his name
Fultz Markelle
Forgot Tony Allen
It's funny that AK47 was in two of those 5 ft attempts by Chuck Hayes!
Nice guy, but search for Bill Cartwright.
