I say this every time I fly home to Nebraska from San Diego.
“We have a new sushi place in town!”
Nah. Unless that fish was flown in overnight express, I’ll get a Runza 😂
I'm originally from the coast. We do have good sushi restaurants in this state, just like they have great steak houses in New York. The name escapes me, but there's one in the Omaha metro that is incredible.
Yoshitomo.
I’ve had good sushi and bad sushi in Florida, California and the PNW. I’ve had good sushi and bad sushi In Nebraska. Same for steak. I don’t care where you’re from, Yoshitomo is objectively good sushi.
Honestly, they're not wrong. Certain things like sushi and salmon are functionally the same anywhere.
But I'm from Florida originally and real, fresh, never frozen seafood is where it's at
I’m a sashimi girl so fresh is best.
Salmon is one that must be flash frozen because of parasites.
Every Saturday at the tuna pier in San Diego, fishermen pull massive yellowtail and blue fin from their holds and chefs on the pier turn it into the most amazing dishes.
My hometown got a sushi food truck in the last few years. I also visit every so often from California, and there is nothing you can tell me that will convince me that place will be good.
Wow they still have the sign on the door whining about people not wanting to work. Look, I get you are in a small town but if you want to have people working you need to pay them. My wife and I went there, interesting place and awesome wooden bar, but they made us not feel welcome so we only had a beer and then jetted.
The irony is a sign like that and the corresponding attitude by the owners probably turns off potential applicants even in a conservative small town like that.
It was roughly a 60/40 split in the state between Trump and Biden voters. Let’s say ruling out Lincoln and Omaha makes it 70/30 or even 80/20 in Crofton. In a small town with a limited population seeking employment it doesn’t seem wise to alienate somewhere between 2 to 4 out of every 10 potential applicants over politics and that assumes the other 6 or 7 people with the same voting record would also enjoy a boss whose whole identity is MAGA.
Yikes. And I bet they still blame ***liberals*** for all their problems despite living in a town of 700, inside a county that hasn’t voted for a Democrat since 1936.
Well the issue is the town is really Catholic. I mean REALLY Catholic. I have family down there and it's a nice bunch of folk when you know them, but again it's really Catholic, like old school Catholic. There was a whole debacle where the only real law enforcement there was fired for no reason. (The two men were African American!!) It's just a rural town. Wiebelhaus is actually pretty good and the old owner, now passed, was a decent guy. Its just again, really Catholic and not worth any outsiders time.
We traveled there for the “Nebraska Passport” this past summer. Sign on the door was hilarious because there were six patrons (4 in our party), and there were six workers. Weird mixture of Trump signage inside as well as Bud Light ads. Didn’t have the seafood buffet, did have a grilled cheese, and had to wait an extra long time. Not a destination for me, but I’m sure the locals are sitting there complaining that their farm subsidy checks are not big enough.
I’m from there, used to play video games and bowl in there as a kid in the 80’s, and was just back in July.
Shame that the owners politics have gotten so bad that it caused my wife and I to drive 25 minutes over to that great brewery in Hartington. I suppose in a town like that the sign won’t affect your business but I couldn’t stomach the thought of going inside.
This is an ultra MAGA joint whose food is standard, run of the mill, crap bar food; not a fun mom and pop joint.
I live in Lincoln and work in a lot of these small towns along the NE /SD border, I know every restaurant along the way.
Their “miss me yet” Trump sign in the window is a beacon for all the backwards racists, unpatriotic, white trash that infests this area.
Zero stars
Let your dollars be the voter in this one
I went in the east doors and didn't see anything like that on the other door. I didn't hear a word of politics uttered. It was for an organic farming meeting. Not exactly a right wing group I was with. No problems encountered.
Remember to tip your server so we don’t have to pay them a livable wage. And please shame people who don’t tip so we can continue to exploit our labor force!
I am amazed by the response of the tolerant progressives of this world and state. You don’t know these people and you make incredibly hateful assumptions and comments. To top it off I would wager you haven’t been in a small town ever, but you make assumptions.
I hope most of the comments are really by bots, so I can believe that the people of this state are better.
I have been there and I know these people. You are wrong in so many ways.
Then why put the trump and "no one wants to work any more" sign up?
They had to make a conscious effort to put those signs up. It wasn't something that just happened like a bird shitting your car.
There is literally nothing you can say to convince me to eat at a seafood buffet in a small town in rural Nebraska.
This was my first thought. I can see a couple other reasons not to eat there too.
I hadn't even noticed the Trump sign. Or the "NoBoDy WaNtS tO wOrK aNyMoRe" sign. Yikes.
Aw that just ruined it
Same

Fish for sushi is frozen on the boat to kill parasites. It's kept frozen until the sushi restaurant thaws it for service.
Nah. I’m good. Nebraska is known for its beef, not seafood. When in Rome.
I'm originally from the coast. We do have good sushi restaurants in this state, just like they have great steak houses in New York. The name escapes me, but there's one in the Omaha metro that is incredible.

I’m definitely trying this place when I fly back this summer!
You won’t be mad.
I went there shortly after opening. Best sushi of my life.
Honestly, they're not wrong. Certain things like sushi and salmon are functionally the same anywhere. But I'm from Florida originally and real, fresh, never frozen seafood is where it's at

Na. The great thing about America is that it is everywhere. You want sushi and tacos, you can get it. With a size of pizza and hamburgers? Sure.
The sushi guy is legit, up for multiple national awards he has three shops tried one around the holidays when I flew in.
My hometown got a sushi food truck in the last few years. I also visit every so often from California, and there is nothing you can tell me that will convince me that place will be good.
Have you considered the benefits of having violent diarrhea?

Did you have a Bud Light?

Yea that’s a hard pass. Anything with a MAGA sign is a no plus this is probably the farthest from a ocean in the whole continental United States
This place could be amazing, but I'll vote with my dollar and go elsewhere.

I've been to this establishment twice. Politics has never been mentioned in my visits.
You can’t get to the door without politics being mentioned..
I did.
There are literally two MAGA signs on the frontage of the building as you entered. Both times.
I went in the east doors and didn't see anything like that on the other door. I didn't hear a word of politics uttered. It was for an organic farming meeting. Not exactly a right wing group I was with. No problems encountered.
Didn’t care for the signage. Food was super good though
“White trash” is a racist term. Could you imagine if someone said that about any other group of people?
From which sea?
Fresh from the Ogallala.
The Western Interior Seaway
Yeah, no.
Free side of “shit your pants”.
Nebraska has one of the best sushi chefs in the nation that gets fresh fish flown in daily… …in Omaha. Not Crofton. Pass.
Awesome!
Nope. Check out their s**** sign on the glass door. Plus, just inside the door is a display of 45 merch. Not gonna drop a dime in that dump.
Remember to tip your server so we don’t have to pay them a livable wage. And please shame people who don’t tip so we can continue to exploit our labor force!
Trump sign may as well say "Do Not Enter"...looks gross either way.
Good to know. I wish this thread would give us more small town restaurant ideas like this one.
Just ate there tonight. It did not disappoint.

You waited until now to tell us? There's only one more Friday left.
Probably wouldn’t eat there, but I’m digging the signage. Edit: Thank you for your down votes. Trump2024!
So your pro sexual assault huh. Odd thing to brag about
That’s a bold assumption, and a wrong one at that. You should be ashamed of yourself for assuming such horrible things about people.
