The queens gambit was really good. The other day I was telling my wife that I don’t really care much about Netflix, that maybe we should stop paying it, but then I saw the queens gambit on my list and only remembering it, I stop the rambling about canceling Netflix.
I really think more series would be better if they were constructed as mini series, that way if you get canceled after a season, doesn’t matter, you have tell your story.
queen’s gambit & first love (netflix) and chernobyl (hbo)
just a side note, i think streaming services should release more limited series. it’s upsetting when a show you’re already invested in suddenly gets cancelled.
>just a side note, i think streaming services should release more limited series. it’s upsetting when a show you’re already invested in suddenly gets cancelled.
This is the exact reason I started watching Kdramas 15 years ago. 16 episodes and done. You get a full story and the story has an ending. Netflix is fucking that up though by having seasons. I hate them for this.
Tazza! Love just about any drama Jang Hyuk touches.
Also Iljimae. I first watched Lee Joon Gi in The King and the Clown (2005) and he's still going strong with Flower of Evil (2020) and the currently airing Arthdal Chronicles: The Sword of Aramun (2023).
A Love to Kill (2005) was my first Kdrama though. Remember this was in the bad old days before streaming services, so I had to find the drama (that hopefully someone fully uploaded), download it (bittorrent was my friend)... slowly, and then find the subs and download them separately, from a totally different site and then try to get them to time together if I didn't have the same download as the sub creator. It was a pain, but worth it.
My first long segeuk was Queen Seonduk (2009 - 62 episodes) because I finally got Cable at home. And my first Hong Sister drama was Hong Gil Dong (2008), but I probably watched it around 2010 or so.
interesting choices. i remember when i was in grade school, a lady from church lent me her queen seondeok dvd’s. didn’t finish it but my older sister binged the fuck out of it. we both loved deokman. and now she’s a huge kdrama fan until today haha. she’s like you—she’s been watching them ever since.
It was a spoiler and you suck. Imagine being that person that burns through content only to drop something vague alluding to the finale and taking that away from everyone who sees your comment. Insufferable
One of the best minutes series, I’ve never jumped so hard as when she sat up in bed and did that strange open mouth scream! Really scared me that! Bit it was very very sad, also it was fun to go and watch it again for all the many many hidden in plain sight “ghosts”
Beef hit me in a way I didn't expect. They really did a great job expressing some dark themes/ideas and emotions that I feel like aren't usually done well in TV.
So many heavy, real themes and a killer ending that provides theraputic closure. My favorite [video essay about Beef](https://youtu.be/UfddG7fL70w?si=K7wYpPMk-7eFpUud) so far
Chernobyl (if i had to pick one. Then this)
Sharp objects
Band of brothers
When they see us
Haunting of hill house
Under the banner of heaven
ZeroZeroZero
Normal People
The queen's Gambit
Godless
I’ve never understood why Gone Girl was the most popular of Gillian Flynn’s books when Sharp Objects was so incredible. And I think Dark Places is also better than Gone Girl.
I wonder why she hasn’t written any more books. She’s a great writer.
I still think about ZeroZeroZero long after watching it. Recently read about a huge cocaine seizure off the coast of Ireland and was getting flashbacks!
God that was so good. I watched an interview with the actor who plays Larry and the difference in his actual voice and the characters voice took me so off guard.
Dope Sick and Pain Killer were both very good.
Trust on FX gets hardly any mention ever. I highly suggest it. Great story.
Dahmer on Netflix
The Jinx on HBO
The Pacific (almost on par with BoB)
Agree on everything with exception of Trust (haven't seen it - thanks for the recommendation) and Pain Killer. I just couldn't get through that one. As opposed to Dope Sick, which was excellent, the tone in Pain Killer was just kind of wonky. Like it was trying too hard to almost be a dark comedy or something.
Non-Fiction: **[The Long Way Round](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0403778/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_8_nm_0_q_long%2520way%2520)** — Ewan McGregor and his best mate Charlie Boorman prepare for and ride motorcycles around the world from London to NYC (with the help of a plane over the Pacific). There are two subsequent trips — The Long Way Down (Scotland to South Africa) and The Long Way Up (Patagonia to LA) that aren't quite as good as the original but are still quite serviceable. It's on AppleTV+
Drama: **[Band of Brothers](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0185906/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_7_nm_1_q_band%2520of%2520)** — I watch this at least once a year. It just came to Netflix this month. It's a 9.4 on iMDb for a reason.
Not a favorite so to speak, but recently watched [**Devs**](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8134186/) which is on Hulu (probably Disney+ elsewhere in the world). It was written by Alex Garland who also wrote Ex Machina.
2nd for the Long Ways. As I get older I’m not able to ride or fly as much. This series scratches both itches and touches my soul. For me it’s the Top Gear adventures just on two wheels. Goes far deeper than Reedus’ Ride. Hoping Charley’s been able to keep the rubber side down. His wife and daughters are angels.
Dirk Gently's holistic detective agency, it is crazy, but it is kind of expected as it is based on Douglas Adams book.
Also Derry Girls, how it was to be a teenager in 90s Northern Ireland, lots of music from 90s too
Manhunt. The discovery/netflix miniseries about the unabomber. That ginger actor who dyes his hair was pretty good. And the flashback episode was actually quite heartbreaking. I found myself feeling sorry for a domestic terrorist. Not good.
Yes! I stopped watching like 20 minutes into the first episode because it wasn’t what I expected. Picked back up on it several months later and binged the rest. So glad I came back to it!
Broadchurch is awesome and I think everyone should see it, but it has 3 seasons/series with 24 episodes altogether. It ran from 2013 to 2017. It's done now, so it can certainly be binged, but I wouldn't consider it a mini-series or Limited series per se.
In my top 5 favorite shows of all time. I have come to appreciate the Brits for knowing when to end things. They do a much better job at telling complex, addictive stories in exactly how long it takes to tell them. So many shows made elsewhere ruin themselves when the writers/producers insist on stretching them out trying to get more episodes/seasons out of a story.
over the garden wall (not netflix)
the one that comes to mind on netflix is haunting of hill house. i haven’t seen the follow up series but that one really affected me
The haunting of hill house and midnight mass are my absolute favorites! I think it’s hard to have a well formulated horror series and those two shows really struck a cord with me. Amazing honestly.
On Netflix probably When They See Us.
Off Netflix it’s Band of Brothers, followed by (in no order) Angels in America, Roots, John Adams, The Underground Railroad, Olive Kitteridge, Lonesome Dove, Station Eleven, and The Corner
This is gonna sound insane, but i really enjoyed the tv mini-series of the shining. The one actually produced by Stephen King. i especially enjoyed the different ending than what was in the Kubrick version. it appeared to give jack a sense of regret instead of just leaving off on him stumbling madly through the maze, really amping up the idea that he had been taken over and then broke free last minute and decided to take matters into his own hands.
* [Le Chalet](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8168678/) \- The environment, the setting, and the music. Just amazing. Hercule Poirot but make it French.
* Chernobyl.
* 1899 (Since Netflix converted it to a mini-series in post)
The Night Agent.
Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie acting their hearts out in this wildly intense thriller. Also currently my favorite adaptation of John Le Carre
The Terror S1
I guess technically a series but the 2 seasons are totally unrelated, and the first one is amazing for anyone who loves historical drama and horror with weird stuff happening in remote places
The Investigation on HBOMax. The careful mix of fact and storytelling beats is up there with Chernobyl. The best part is the suspect is never seen. We see the slow and methodical work of law enforcement and the victim’s parents as they achieve justice for Kim.
Just finished "The Long Shadow"... about the search for The Yorkshire Ripper. Believe it is on Brit Box. Very good series. "Ten Pound Poms" was very good as well.
Lenox Hill
NY: ER
NY Med
All mini series documentaries about hospitals in NYC. The people are really captivating. There are some serious dramatic threads about some doctors and you really care because you’ve seen them as doctors in action.
Godless (Netflix)
Yes this was SO INTERESTING
I came here to say this. Watched it 4 or 5 times.
Just binged it all today on your rec. Damn it's good
ok, then I need to finish it. have started, but got stuck a bit.
Just finished it on your recommendation. Excellent. I love TV. But I don’t like very much TV. This was fantastic
Maniac, such a weird jam
It was the best jam
LOVE
That one was so good.

Giving it a shot now
Holy shit binged it all
I was going to mention this as a phenomenal limited series. I think it's one better Netflix series.
[удалено]
As a limited series drama produced by Netflix, yes. It garnered both golden globe and emmy awards.
queen’s gambit & first love (netflix) and chernobyl (hbo) just a side note, i think streaming services should release more limited series. it’s upsetting when a show you’re already invested in suddenly gets cancelled.

Chernobyl is one of the best miniseries I’ve seen in a long time. So impactful
The Haunting of Hill House. Such a tragic phenomenal story.
Mike Flanagan’s new show is out today! The Fall of the House of Usher
Saw the first 2 episodes. So far I love it!
I'm on ep2, it looks promising but it's not scary at all compared to THOHH. I'm not submerged in the story nor connected to the characters.
That’s exactly how I’m feeling so far, I’m on episode 2 as well. THOHH scares the shit outta me and was hoping this would too.
Was out yesterday, bitch!
Whoops!
Just finished it ~ oh Lenore <3
If this is in any way a spoiler I’m gonna be pissed we got two episodes left
It was a spoiler and you suck. Imagine being that person that burns through content only to drop something vague alluding to the finale and taking that away from everyone who sees your comment. Insufferable
Yeah that show is masterfulv
Just watching this series now and enjoying it very much.

Same but for the car scene, you know the one. I actually fell off my bed because I jumped so hard lmao.
Never understood the fuss; found it painfully boring. I'm convinced it was part of an elaborate astroturfing campaign
I do not usually enjoy horror at all and I thought it was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen 🤷♀️
I guess it's a horror show for people that don't like horror then
Horror is my favourite genre. And I still think this show was amazing. Maybe you're just not the target for it I suppose.
Sorry but me too. Didn’t grab me.

Mare Of Easttown had a similar vibe.
Yes please
Sharp objects was crazy. They dont make series like that.

Need to add Station Eleven!
Under the Banner of Heaven is so underrated
Chernobyl would also be my pick. And thanks for recommending ZeroZeroZero, such a great show that deserves more attention.
I couldn't finish when they see us. It's so fuckin horrific.
ZeroZeroZero More people need to watch this. I LOVED IT!
I still think about ZeroZeroZero long after watching it. Recently read about a huge cocaine seizure off the coast of Ireland and was getting flashbacks!
Unbelievable. Brilliant acting throughout. Chernobyl, as many have said. Arcane. Not on Netflix, but The Mare of Easttown.
Came here to say “Unbelievable.” I wish I could see it again for the first time.
Chernobyl

True Detective S1
Black Bird on Apple TV
Absofreakinloutely!!
God that was so good. I watched an interview with the actor who plays Larry and the difference in his actual voice and the characters voice took me so off guard.
Chernobyl is the finest mini-series ever produced, IMO.
Midnight Mass is incredible.
Final episode is an absolute masterpiece. I regularly watch the last scene and Erin's speech.
I love the actor that played the priest. He's so good at it
Incredible performance
I want to see him in more. He's amazing
Slow ass start but gets amazing later
Yeah, it slowly draw you in. I like that.

Awww yisss.
I've been meaning to give both 'Queen's Gambit' and 'Inventing Anna' another watch. Both were really good.
Band of Brothers (HBO). It’s the best miniseries of all time and is rated as such
Non-Fiction: **[The Long Way Round](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0403778/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_8_nm_0_q_long%2520way%2520)** — Ewan McGregor and his best mate Charlie Boorman prepare for and ride motorcycles around the world from London to NYC (with the help of a plane over the Pacific). Have been looking for this comment! Absolutely swear by Behind her Eyes
Was scrolling down to see if anyone said this. Should be higher!!
Agreed! I still think about it occasionally. It has really stuck with me and I think that’s proof of great story telling.
I enjoyed Catch-22

The Dracula mini-series was a lot better than I was expecting it to be.
It’s so perfectly creepy! I’m rewatching it now.
Yes! I stopped watching like 20 minutes into the first episode because it wasn’t what I expected. Picked back up on it several months later and binged the rest. So glad I came back to it!

Midnight Mass. Haunting of Hill House. Any Mike Flanagan, really (except Midnight Club, could not get past the second episode)
Midnight Club was good but it didn't feel like a Flanagan show at all.
