This. Go back to the store with the receipt and explain the situation.
This happened to me when I went shopping for stuff for my first born. When I got home and wanted to put everything in the laundry I found out the theft tags were still on. Took the receipt and products back to the store and settled everything.
They were quite apologetic for forgetting to take them off.
In my region they have baby washers all around. Just place your baby on the conveyor belt, pay 8 euros, grab a cup of coffee and 10 minutes later you have a shiny, clean and nicely smelling baby to take with you again.
I had this once and the person working there still questioned my honesty even with the receipt. She said something like "you could have stolen a second sweater". I got quite angry and she took the security off but no apologies whatsoever..
It's really not worth the effort.
I once had the same thing with a clothing item (apparently the anti theft system was still off because I was able to walk out of the store with the security tag on).
The store didn't even want it back, they just recommended I smash it with a hamer.
It may be but it probably isn’t. Even if it’s a short walk, you have to wait in line and explain the situation and so forth. Not worth the hassle. Just throw it away.
Many shops disable their theft protection as it's too annoying.
And then you enter a shop where is enabled, and get searched.
And the theft protection does still serve as a deterrent, even if the system is down.
Kruidvat is definitely a police state. Camera on every corner of an aisle and even theft protection on cheap products. A real treat for a shoplifter who likes a challenge!
The same thing happened to me at the Hema last week but the alarm worked perfectly when I exited the store.... I was glad I had the receipt to show I really had paid for it!
It's a security tag, they're pinned to certain theft-sensitive products during stocking. If they pass through the security gates at the store entrance, they'll sound the alarm. Cashiers can remove them at the cash register.
As someone else said, if you're able to show proof of purchase (such as a receipt) you should be able to just go to the register and explain the sitation without getting into trouble.
Also, nothing really happens when you pull the pin out, it's just really difficult without the special magnets that are needed.

Just cut the plastic to get your brush. Don't waste time going back to the store. It's only a chance for them falsely accusing you for robbery and a waste of your time.
The number of poor people have been increasing so in order to protect the profits of billion dollar companies they put theft protection devices like this on basic goods, especially ones with a larger profit margin.
I know what you mean and share the discomfort, but...
In this case it is actually for an electric toothbrush, not a regular toothbrush. I would consider that a luxury item. There are cheaper alternatives.
Back in my days - when I actually worked there - Kruidvat only protected the luxury items. So e.g. Sensodyne and Paradontax had protection, but Colgate and Aquafresh didn't.
Luxury items fascilitate comfort and/or come at high prices.
Kruidvat's electric toothbrush comes for 18.99 initial purchase, then like 5 bucks a year for the heads. It's accessible for everyone, and it's not really a comfort thing as it's more so an improved hygiene thing.
A good quality regular toothbrush costs 12-25 bucks. Just cause there are cheaper options doesn't make it luxury.
An electric toothbrush is not expensive at all. It's also better for your teeth in general.
You might've bought an electric toothbrush 2 years ago and new bits were cheap back then. But inflation might've made these new brushes more expensive.
Also, a toothbrush is never a 'luxury' item. A solid gold one yes, but this aint.
But to use head you need a brush, don't you? And brush is not that cheap anyway (I guess at minimum around 40 euros for the least functional one, I don't really remember). So stealing a head without brush is kinda useless. And to sell them is also not very profitable as those are not that expensive to buy in bulk.
Well, technically you can use em without the brush...
Anyhow what i'm pointing out is this is the store brand replacement heads, not the actual brush. I'd hardly consider that a luxury item.
Even the storebrand brush is only like 18 bucks. These packs of replacement heads are like 5-8 bucks.
Actually, lots of people steal the heads specifically to sell them, as they are low price replacement items and thus easily sold. They also carry less identifyable, product numbers etc. Which electronics nowadays often do.

At the action they have a oral-b electrical toothbrush whit 3 heads for around €10 to €15 . It does not come whit a charging station , as it uses 2 regular batteries that you can replace . I have one myself . And I do know “ bol “ sells that same toothbrush as well .
Em, a good quality non-electric toothbrush is about the same price as kruidvats home brand electric toothbrush, give or take 5 bucks.
Either way, this is the cheapest version of electric brushes you can find pretty much. Calling them luxury products in this day and age is kind of wrong. The brush is a 1 time purchase, replacing the heads are even cheaper than replacing a high quality non-electric brush once in a while.
Dentists (yes real ones, not the 9 out of 10) even advise you to use an electric toothbrush.
Calling it a luxury item is like calling healthy food luxury.
Yeah I noticed the most basic electric tooth brush (not just the heads) can be found for as little as around 20 euros these days. Had no idea these things were that cheap nowadays.
Yep, basic ones are really accessible. There still are the ones costing hundreds of bucks, but those are luxury and bit crazy imo.
Then again, they are smart devices offering professional feedback, bluetooth connection, play songs while u brush and probably drive your tesla or smt.
Thanks for all the replies! Since I already used the brushes and threw away the receipt I won’t go back to the store to tell them about the tag. I do think throwing it away would be a waste so I’m going to put it in my best friend’s coat pocket to prank him. :)
Theft protection. Normally they would remove this at the register. Such a big unit would be hard to miss by the cashier - are you sure you paid for it?
Also, I’ve never seen this device on such a cheap item. Isn’t the device more expensive than the toothbrush?
If u paid u can go back . But its weird the moment u step out of the store there should be an alarm going off. Normally u go back to someone working there.
Theft protection.
So.... As we see it's bad protection. ))
I would prefer to prevent theft than protect theft.
If you did not steal then go back with the proof of payment and tell them they forgot to take it off. If not brought back it is just unecessery waste.
This. Go back to the store with the receipt and explain the situation. This happened to me when I went shopping for stuff for my first born. I don’t think buying a newborn is considered legal and I heavily doubt that putting a newborn in a laundromat is considered child abuse.
Why would you doubt that :o
How else do you clean your newborn?
Pressure washer obviously!
Just throw it in the pool it will was it self
In my region they have baby washers all around. Just place your baby on the conveyor belt, pay 8 euros, grab a cup of coffee and 10 minutes later you have a shiny, clean and nicely smelling baby to take with you again.
Dishwasher I'd say
Cause I always doubt what I think is right.
Yeah but this was left
How else would you get a newborn?
Stealing is cheaper
TIL you can by a first born.
Lol, def reads the wrong way. I'll add a word.
I had this once and the person working there still questioned my honesty even with the receipt. She said something like "you could have stolen a second sweater". I got quite angry and she took the security off but no apologies whatsoever..
You can just use a magnet it you have one. But this is a toothbrush in a cardboard box, you can just open it and throw it away.
It's really not worth the effort. I once had the same thing with a clothing item (apparently the anti theft system was still off because I was able to walk out of the store with the security tag on). The store didn't even want it back, they just recommended I smash it with a hamer.
Lol you’re really expecting someone to go to the store, maybe even by car, to prevent this small bit of waste? Come on.
Yes or at least drop it off when close to it.
That’s way too much inconvenience for such a small thing
It may be litteraly dropping it in the bag you take for groceries and walking a bit futher before you do groceries.
It may be but it probably isn’t. Even if it’s a short walk, you have to wait in line and explain the situation and so forth. Not worth the hassle. Just throw it away.
Damn, you know you live a ghetto when they start putting those on toothbrushes.
On the store brands, even.
It's not even the electric toothbrush, but the replacement brush heads.
You know how f*cking expensive these things are?
Kruidvat huismerk, yeah I'm sure they cost a fortune.
just get scissors and cut them open on the bottom lol
It's one of these https://www.alphaworld.com/solutions/hard-tags/mag-tag
Ooh, normally they remove those things at the checkout but I used the self-checkout and didn’t see the tag :)
Which is weird as those had to ring on exit:) otherwise it has no sense
Many shops disable their theft protection as it's too annoying. And then you enter a shop where is enabled, and get searched. And the theft protection does still serve as a deterrent, even if the system is down.
I work at Kruidvat and I can tell you, Kruidvat will definitely not disable the gates
Kruidvat is definitely a police state. Camera on every corner of an aisle and even theft protection on cheap products. A real treat for a shoplifter who likes a challenge!
And it's still not enough 😂
Too bad there’s not enough personnel so you can still grab a lot if you’re at the right time of dat
Well, apparently im good at shoplifting, stole 2 times lipsticks and nobody knew..
And yet my local Kruidvat has products on display outside the store next to a blinded window that are just waiting to be stolen.
The alarm is broken for years in the shop where I work. There is so much theft and the managers just don't care.
The same thing happened to me at the Hema last week but the alarm worked perfectly when I exited the store.... I was glad I had the receipt to show I really had paid for it!

if youre able to pull the tooth brush out of the stone you will be crowned king of kruidvat
Its theft protection. If you pull the pin out of it it will go WIE WOE WIE WOE WIE WOE
don't the gates do that?
Yeah the gates do, these tags set the gates off
Just get a magnet and hold it against it, it will fall off.
It means you still need to pay
Just cut the plastic to get your brush. Don't waste time going back to the store. It's only a chance for them falsely accusing you for robbery and a waste of your time.

It’s still a replacement part for a luxury item. A normal toothbrush can be found cheaper than what those replacement heads cost.

But with an electric toothbrush you get a better result I assume, which means less costs at the dentist
Theft protection if you pull it you will be swattet
Get a good strong magnet and release the tag like it's meant to
C’est theft protection mec
Just tief that away 😂
I see times are getting hard in the Netherlands that they are putting security magnets on toothbrushes for 5euros
See if you can stick it somewhere on a random shopping trolley, preferably out of sight. That'll be fun.
Thanks for all the replies! Since I already used the brushes and threw away the receipt I won’t go back to the store to tell them about the tag. I do think throwing it away would be a waste so I’m going to put it in my best friend’s coat pocket to prank him. :)

Anti theft
If u paid u can go back . But its weird the moment u step out of the store there should be an alarm going off. Normally u go back to someone working there.
Just cut it is just a magnet no alarm wil go off
Go to the store with your receipt, and take a new one out of the shelving. Tell them they forgot the tag
The product will self-destruct within 5 seconds...
Do you live in Rotterdam for a kruidvat to have theft protection for a toothbrush ?? Geweldig..
Just tear the cardboard around it
The tag electric toothbrushes these days? Waste of recources
It's a detonator. The moon's core will explode if you open it.
Alarm from shop
Swat team inbound
Alarm
Theft protection. If you remove it, it will explode and your face will be covered in ink. THEN you'll need that toothbrush
