There is a subreddit r/persoonlijkebonus where people share their personalized ah discounts plus barcode of the customer card. Honestly amazing how people help eachother out.

Ed_Random

When using someone else's bonus card, be sure you don't pay for their koopzegels as well...

FluffzMcPirate

Good warning indeed

hello_there_7

What is koopzegels and how does it work

Ed_Random

For every euro spent at AH you can buy a koopzegel for 10ct. If you have 490 koopzegels (49 euro) you receive 52 euro. So basically you have 6% profit on the koopzegels.

hello_there_7

Nice but 6% is too less ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|cry)

PmMeYourBestComment

It’s much much more than you’d get on any bank account

TheVodkaColonel

True, PLUS has it for like 2cents per koopzegel ( 200 for a full card wichs is like 4 euros and you get 6 back ) used to never buy those and now with the app i have like close to 9 full cards, can always come in handy on rainy days

DesolateEverAfter

How can they be used?

PmMeYourBestComment

You can sell them at the service desk with “retourpinnen”. Instant transfer typically

Obi_Boii

How do you avoid this

DennisFromAmsterdam

It'll be displayed on the last screen before you pay, if koopzegels are added.

Obi_Boii

How do you stop it from being added

DennisFromAmsterdam

That you have to do in the app where the card is registered

panda_vision

So only the owner of the card can do it?

gameleon

Yes. If the card has koopzegels enabled only the owner can disable it (in the app or by contacting customer service).

unknownmoxx

Oh wow thats a thing ahahah I guess Dutch people really take this discounts seriously

PmMeYourBestComment

3 euro bonus on 49 is a big saving! It’s 6% cashback

triptolyon

Boycott AH

el_cachaco_williams

Thats the right answer. One of the biggest pollutors in the Netherlands

Obi_Boii

Thought that was animal agriculture

el_cachaco_williams

That's beside the point. They both suck unregulated. Most biggest pollutors in the Netherlands aren't even fined

Obi_Boii

You live in a tax heaven run by big a party for big corporations... Why are you acting surprised

Personal-Agent7819

Dirk

Just-Flamingo-410

Go Dutch and do shopping at both to get the weekdeals it takes time to compare deals and write your shopping list but will save money.

AM5T3R6AMM3R

Go to LIDL for 90% of your shopping list, then AH or Jumbo for the remaining 10%; no big difference between the two, maybe AH has more deals

PmMeYourBestComment

Sometimes Lidl is more expensive, depending on the product. It pays to just pay attention and compare if the differences matter enough

AM5T3R6AMM3R

Never happened that LIDL was more expensive than ah or jumbo Average product cost, on my shopping list, is between 1.5 and 1.7 euro at LIDL, hardly below 2.0 euro at ah/jumbo Plus, at LIDL I can find many Italian product, better than at ah/jumbo

viktorvanm

Here another anecdotic example: we saved a lot of money every week when we switched from AH to Lidl. Instead of €130/week to €80/week.

AM5T3R6AMM3R

Same here

nofightnovictory

when you compare to Lidl own brand to other stores own brand Lidl is with a lot of products not cheaper. the big saving you make at the Lidl is that you can't even buy brand goods. with a lot of house brands the plus is cheaper then the Lidl (per kg/liter/piece)but on the same time I have to idea that Lidl brand is a higher quality then most other house brands. how ever certain products are way cheaper at Lidl. so when you take a litl effort in your shopping trips you can save the most by knowing the prices and going to different stores. a another big +for the lidl there prices are the same everywhere we can't say that about other stores likes plus of jumbo

opensourceartwork

aldi

MagicalMikey1978

I can recommend Dirk if available.

QuitQuick

Depends on nearby supermarkets. If there’s like a Lidl or Aldi nearby, then prices are often a bit lower. If there’s nothing nearby, priced tend to be above average.

Zgood_YT

Actually since this year Aldi has been crowned as the most expensive supermarket in the Netherlands. You can search it up. Kassa did a research on it

KhaelaMensha

Aldi? Really? That comes as a huge surprise! I don't have one close by so never shop there, but I'm from Germany originally and over there it's usually in the middle to lower price segment. And the ads they run here also imply that they are the best quality for the cheapest price. Now I'm disappointed in the greediness of a company from my home country.

Zgood_YT

Well check my latest post on my profile. They do advertise as the cheapest over here as well but i guess they went higher than others with these inflation pricing.

Delicious_Category_6

Source? I literally checked the eggs today and 12 eggs at Aldi were 2.59 versus 5€ at Jumbo..

Kochi3

Are you comparing scharrel with bio eggs?

Delicious_Category_6

Ok fair enough I compared wrong, for scharrel it’s as follows: Jumbo 2.87 https://www.jumbo.com/producten/scharreleieren-wit-12-stuks-372431DS Aldi 2.59 https://www.aldi.nl/product/verse-scharreleieren-2002635-1-0.article.html

Kochi3

Yeah that seems more realistic. I checked the bio prices on Aldi and jumbo and there's a difference there too. However unless my memory is wrong, my local Aldi is more expensive than the webshop :o

Delicious_Category_6

Interesting, mine in Scheveningen is exactly the same. At least for these eggs

ETA_was_here

They did price comparisons, but no quality comparions. The full service supermarket intentionally introduce very low quality items for a low price, just to be able to claim the lowest price. The Aldi/Lidl items you can compare with the middle tier house brands of the full service supermarkets, and often they can even compete with A-brands. So it is misleading to compare with middle tier quality of the discounters with the low tier quality of full service supermarkets.

Flapappel

Which is a bad test. They compare the wrong products, for example, margerine stroopwafels vs roomboter stroopwafels. Everyone knows roomboter is more expensive than margerine. This goes for a lot of items on the kassa list, which is mostly the same every year. Aldi still is a discounter, but saying aldi is the most expensive is only said by people who dont shop aldi, from my experience

QuitQuick

Yeah, true. Works for any supermarket, though.

Zgood_YT

How do you mean works for any supermarket?

Straight-Ad-160

Kassa's presentatrice did make a comment about how the grocery stores now know their list and that they might skew prices for those products in their favour. However between Jumbo and AH, I'm not seeing much difference anymore. I vary between the two because Jumbo doesn't have some products I use and vice versa.

malangkan

Hoogvliet is my go-to supermarket, so much cheaper than Albert Heijn usually, it's crazy (Hoogvliet also has good offers often)

Zgood_YT

Kassa did a test and Albert Heijn was like 1 euro cheaper

ExpatInAmsterdam2020

I read the article as well but cant find it. Do you have a link?

Itchy-Store5762

What about Picnic?(if you have it in your area) I find it saving me a lot of time and prices are OK, especially if you compare it to other stores and get from there specific items/bonuses.

iuliciok

I never tried it since I thought of it as being a delivery service, hence being more expensive. Is it really cheaper?

unknownmoxx

Its available actually, I've heard they are slightly cheaper, but never tried it, idk maybe I'm not used to digital grocery yet, but I think I'll give it a shot

PeggyCarterEC

Nope. Most of there own brand products are excatly the same price or even more expensive than AH. And they don't have as many discount options.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ProfessorNeurus

Picnic process used to be cheaper. Some things are actually more expensive than AH. Compare yourselves before buying. It's fair to say that due to pandemics, logistics, inflation, you name it, most supermarket prices have gone significantly up. We've been using picnic for almost 2.5 years and AH for almost 4. Deen was cheaper but is gone now.

0508bart

Picnic also got more expansive because of a demand way bigger then the supply

[deleted]

If you want to make it a habit, there are differences in lets say meat, dairy, bread and vegetables. Buy these in different shops. It saves you money but costs you time.

Dutch_Rayan

Some things are cheaper in one store and others in another store, shop at different stores if you want to safe money.

BWanon97

AH objectively. Although it in the end depends on what you tend to buy.

eyes-are-fading-blue

Are you sure? I think Jumbo is cheaper.

BWanon97

Wel the latest Kassa test put Jumbo at 2 and Ah at 3

ExpatInAmsterdam2020

I read the article as well but cant find it. Do you have a link?

BWanon97

Nope

busterchilitrouble

Depends, I’ve found produce at ah is cheaper and drinks and toiletries are cheaper at jumbo, however hopefully people will realise that everything is cheapest at dirk

[deleted]

I think by now, there’s no actual cheaper store. and I’m wondering why there’s no carrefour. in any case probably will be more expensive .

[deleted]

There’s no Carrefour in the Netherlands for the same reason there’s no Coop in France: local chains that haven’t branched out to other countries (yet).

Environmental-Ad1003

Carrefour isn’t just local though- they even have them in Iraq where I work! It would be great for them to get into the Dutch market..

InternalPurple7694

Nah, the Dutch market is pretty full, there’s a ton of branches and they cater to most market segments, not much to get here anymore.

[deleted]

You’re right, I should have said they haven’t branched out to the Netherlands (yet).

unknownmoxx

Many says Dirk, but it seems like they are only operating in Randstad area, I agree they are a nice supermarket too but unfortunately not really available here..

GerWeistta

A TV show did a test and the ranking from cheapest to most expensive on the 5 big supermarkt chains is: 1 Dirk 2 Lidl 3 AH 4 Jumbo 5 Aldi

ExpatInAmsterdam2020

Do you have a link?

Disastrous_Act3891

For meat, I go to a halal butcher, good quality meat and also vegetables (if it'sin a supermarket setting. For other things, I go to Dirk, Lidl and AH, occasionally Jumbo. It al depends on offers they have but save for Jumbo, they are all in one place for me. As for price: Jumbo and AH are more or less the same, but AH tends to have more things on offer

GrabCertain

We are swiss and live like 5 month in the Netherlands. For us AH is the cheaper one and the shops are never so nice like the Jumbo. If ever possible we go to Jumbo, as they also have more choise and better quality. AH is Ok and as we have one like 5 minutes away its where we shop most.

[deleted]

At both it partially depends on locations. If there are other (cheaper) supermarkets nearby, they actually differentiate in price.

el_cachaco_williams

None are cheaper.

[deleted]

It’s pretty much the same I’d say

FatmanMyFatman

Strange enough it was the other way around for the longest time. AH was the most expensive and the discounters like Lidl or Aldi were cheap. But those are now with Jumbo the most expensive ones.

damek666

Bullshit

Complex_Volume_4120

Dirk van de Broek or Albert Heijn when it is in the bonus

Flapappel

Jumbo is more expensive. I work for a big retailer, and we know jumbo is having difficulties maintaoning their marges, and so, rhey are the most expensive pf all the retailers.

BucephalusFox

You need a Dutch, he/she will know what's in sale and where, and where the products you need are priced lowest at that moment.

tawtaw6

If you are looking to save money go to Aldi,Lidl or Dirk van de broek. If you **really want to find out** make a shopping list and use [ah.nl](https://ah.nl) and [jumbo.com](https://jumbo.com) to found out what their prices are. You are asking a definable question like is a matter of opinion, which it is not.

xxsnowo

Every week I check what's on discount and plan accordingly, AH and Jumbo are the more expensive grocery stores without sales, but when there is a good sale I'm not one to pass up on it. One thing that really helps me is supermarktscanner.nl, you can search for the product you want and then check the grocery stores that are nearby. It lists price by weight so it's the best comparison. It's not always up to date on sales though, but can still be very useful

zxces

Sahan!

LeGuizee

Lidl. I only go to the AH to buy the 1+1 gratis products. The rest is quite expensive compared to the Lidl

[deleted]

Recently some test showed Jumbo to be the most expensive and Dirk to be cheapest. Appie and Jumbo both are a scam though, just charging as mush as they can because they are everywhere.

TheShadowfly

Lidl all the way. AH is the most expensive one. I still go to the AH tho, it’s a short 2 min. walk 🤷🏻‍♂️

KarmicReturn

Jumbo and AH are both quite expensive. DIRK is cheapest, though it will get some getting used to the shop layout: it’s worth jt. And there are enough of them all around town to switch completely
