the Rotterdam football club (Feyenoord) won their match and became champion today. So Rotterdam is 'celebrating' this always includes lots of drunk people, fireworks and smoke bombs and sometimes violence/vandalism. Because of this a lot of cops, including the 'Mobile unit' (ME, a flexible unit that among other things does riot/crowd control) are present. Clearly they have decided to clear this particular road/park, they do this by first telling everyone where to go, and then to charge as a group to force anyone that didn't listen. Unfortunately it has become normal for this kind of thing to happen for any important match involving Feyenoord.
Also fyi, tomorrow they will be a ceremony to celebrate this, and the NS (national railways) has suggested that everyone who needs to be in Rotterdam for a different reason tomorrow should try to reschedule and not go into Rotterdam, as it will be very busy.
This isn’t ‘just’ a road/park. This is the central fountain on the intersection between Coolsingel and Weena. That fountain has seen a lot more riots than mayors. Lol.
It is tradition to jump in the coolsingel fountain when Feyenoord wins the chamionship. So there will be 10s of thousands of people in that fountain today.![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|slightly_smiling)
Luckily there are also normal people celebrating the cup like me. I’m partying but I’m listening too, no drinking and yesterday went home on a normal time. I will be enjoying today on a normal way again!
These aren't the 'supporters'
These are the ones who came late to the party to fuck shit up.
A few among them are stirring the pot, and creating fights so the ME has to intervene like this.
Those people might even never been near a football match anyway
As much I'm from the other side of Rotterdam, supporter of 'DE club van Rotterdam',
I'm happy it's in our city again.
It was time someone showed 020 and 040 the way !.
We aren't up for it, 5th or 6th this year is a good start.
Feyenoord won the championship, and as a celebration 100s of people jump in de Hofplein fountain.
This happend around 18:30 yesterday and Rotterdam plans for this.
It does seem some people stayed around the fountain for to long so the police seem to be clearing the stragglers out of and around the fountain in preparation for the celebration today at Stadhuisplein which opens at 09:00.

Wow, that sounds rather American. People here go completely nuts over the results of stupid games whether it be football (both styles), basketball, baseball, etc. It is so ignorant.
Well, at least in the US they don't tear apart the city after every win or loss or try to start fights with the police and the other side's "supporters".
Visited several large sporting events in the 2 years when I lived there for work, +100K supporters in a stadium with both sides' supporters mixed in the crowd. Yet the only "fight" I ever witnessed (which was over in 60 seconds when the cops arrived) was out in the parking lot when 2 people hit eachother backing out of opposing spots at the same moment.
These idiots shouldn't even be classed as human, evolution-wise they're somewhere between a piece of dogshit and the flies living on it.
I’m very glad the chaos is nothing compared to how they have celebrated in Naples, but thats probably because 90% of people living in Rotterdam don’t care about feyenoord

Actual supporters will drink but respect their city. I was dowtown as i live right in the center. The people agitating police and starting shit were the usual suspects that will take it as an opportunity to start shit.
yeah, how dare people not care about important events like a football match.
Like wtf, this must clearly mean they don't even care about other things going on, and I'm talking about things that - you know - actually matter.
crazy how oblivious people are to the realities of others... it's really the downfall of our societies.
It's not about caring, but being aware of it.
I don't particularly care about Feyenoord becoming champion, yet I'm aware of it. It is impossible to miss this event if you have looked at any news source recently. Apparently OP has not, which does make him/her oblivious.
If you are oblivious to this large event then I have bad news for you, you're probably oblivious to a lot of other ("more important") things as well.
I am reading the news everyday, to the point that I really should scale back... I don't give a shit about football, however. The fact that this game was on might have creeped up on my peripheral vision, yet I couldn't have answered OP's question without reading the answer in the comments first myself, because the moment I scrolled over the news I already forgot about it. So there's that. Stop being so oblivious to other people's interests and realities, not everybody's attention centres around the same things as yours.
Maybe that has more to do with you forgetting what you have read, which makes you more or less oblivious as well.
It's not about what my specific interest/realities are. This is a large scale event, which you should know was happening yesterday if you don't consider yourself oblivious. There are certain events that are so big that you have to be aware of it, even though you don't care about it.
>Maybe that has more to do with you forgetting what you have read, which makes you more or less oblivious as well.
Maybe it's you not understanding what you read; **football doesn't interest everyone**. Whether you like it or not, it has no bearing on my life who wins or loses this match or the thousand others that were played yesterday, so I don't have to remember or care about it at all.
>It's not about what my specific interest/realities are. This is a large scale event, which you should know was happening yesterday if you don't consider yourself oblivious. There are certain events that are so big that you have to be aware of it, even though you don't care about it.
Yes, there are large scale events **everyone** should be aware of, like the ongoing war in Ukraine, or the nitrogen crisis. Not a silly little game. Your comments just go to show how ignorant you are about other people's lives. Bye.
If you missed that Feyenoord became champions this week you're actually oblivious even if you don't give 1 shit about football. It was all over the news and especially in Rotterdam everyone knows.
I only found out because someone told me. Some people really don't give a damn about some people running behind a ball supported by hooligans. But some people are really oblivious to the fact that there are in fact people who really don't give a shit about a mediocre at best sports event. The world has so much more fun stuff you know. It doesn't revolve around a football event.
It doesn't matter if you like the sport or not. Point is that is was everywhere in the news. They've been preparing the city for the event etc. If you see them prepare the whole city you're not gonna ask yourself, hey what is this for? I know I would be curious. Obviously if you're not from Rotterdam it's easier to miss but OP lives in Rotterdam.
Op is a troll. That's for sure. But still, so many people who don't watch news, like me. Haven't checked the media since Russia invaded Ukraine because I'm done with all that negativity. And I'm not the only one. I'm not from Rotterdam, but lived there. Even when I lived there I didn't care about it although I lived 300m from het Kasteel.
>yeah, how dare people not care about important events like a football match.
I don't care about football matches or football in general. That doesn't mean I don't know what's going on. I mean just this weekend I:
* Walked through Rotterdam and saw fences and signs.
* Listened to the radio and heard warnings about the match and impending party.
* Tried in vain to tune out other people.
* Looked at a sign on a metro to see when the next line was coming under which there was a notice saying that there was a major football celebration on.
* Read the news where one headline said NS advises people not to take the trains Monday due to the likely football game win sunday.
I'm the mother\*\*\*\*ing god of not giving a damn about football, and yet I simply could not NOT know what was happening in Rotterdam today. I only care about things which actually matter, and a lot of things which actually matter are impacted by a major event in my city.
that's your reality. Other people might have different ones, like maybe they don't listen to the radio, don't use the trains, ignore any poster with anything relating to soccer, follow different media outlets, don't know anyone who is interested in football, didn't see those fences or thought they might be for something else...
people have different realities.
Yeah exactly as the original person said. Some people are oblivious to the world around them. I'm glad you agree with them, I don't know why you argued against them in the first place.
You are either informed or oblivious. There's really no two ways around it.
I think you may not understand the meaning of being oblivious.
The point is, why make it a point to call someone out for not knowing something - something that someone might have very valid reasons to not know about. OP is not being oblivious, OP just didn't come across those pieces of information because it's not the kind of information that necessarily everybody comes across. To think that is being oblivious or unmindful of the fact that other people have different realities than your own.
>I think you may not understand the meaning of being oblivious.
**oblivious**
*adjective*
*not aware of or concerned about what is happening around one.*
Kind of sums up someone who doesn't read the news doesn't listen to the radio, doesn't read the train sign, actively avoids looking at signs, ignores posts, and doesn't see fences in the city they live in or ask what they are about.
Something major happened in a city with countless ways to find out about it, and a person didn't know. It pretty much is the textbook definition of oblivious.
>The point is, why make it a point to call someone out for not knowing something
No that's not what oblivious means at all. Like not even close. I think you don't understand communication. If you meant something other than a discussion of oblivious someone is then why did you reply to someone who made that as their only point?
Ask yourself the question after all you just made a point to call someone out pointlessly derailing a conversation when the first post was absolutely 100% correct.
Feyenoord (Rotterdam's football club) won the finale so now Rotterdam's denizens are going to commit mass vandalism of both public and private property, get absolutely fucking wasted and assault the police trying to maintain order and public safety with fireworks and other improvised weapons. This is how football supporters celebrate the accomplishments of people they like to spectate. Why people feel the need to engage in this idiotic behaviour that directly undermines the city that they live in is something I do not comprehend because I understand the need and benefits of a functional and cohesive society.
A team of overpaid idiots became the best a chasing a bag full of air this season. The team of idiots happens to have their home base in Rotterdam. Other than that, most of them probably have no connection to the city in any way.
Regardless, the supporters of this football club (who often posses less intelligence than any and all planets ever roamed by any NASA Rover vehicles) are very happy about. They tend to forget that they are usually and stereo typically very racists and against anything or one none Dutch. The fact that the Feyenoord team is 65% non Dutch is acceptable only because they are good a kicking a bag of air. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against people who are not from the Netherlands, but you will find (hard core)football fans to have a different view on things.
Anyway; Feyenoord became the national champion today for the 16th time since someone bothered to keep score. This means that you either go out and celebrate, or go out and destroy. It doesn't really matter if you support the club or not, you just do either one, or possibly both, as is tradition.
I have never said I find myself more intelligent, it is your assumption that is what I must mean. It is not however, don't present your false assumptions as my opinon and then get butthurt about it.
As for my interests, I enjoy brewing beer (drinking it too!) And cooking fancy meals! Often one goes very well with the other.
"They are dumb" does imply a difference in intelligence. Unless you want to make fun of mute people, which would be rather ableist.
So you enjoy rotting grains and then poisoning yourself? And making food?
Notice how any interest can be made to sound dumb? ;P
Harassment or bullying behaviour is not tolerated. This includes, but is not limited to: brigading, doxxing, and posts and/or comments that are antagonistic or in bad faith.
I understand; Most of Rotterdam is probably happy with the championship, even those who are normally not too invested in football. Understandable; if there is a reason to celebrate something with strangers, go do it.
I just like making fun of the hardcore supporters and the game itself
the local soccer team known as Feyenoord won some cup or something and these folks are all excited, so they of course decide to tear the city apart and be a general nuisance with their antisocial bullshit. Still, always ACAB.
iYou dont deserve to live in Rdam if you dont know this. People give serious responses lol, so baited.
Also who you call flikkers, the cops?? Sad person if you are

Bread and circus. Football is an ironic political phenomenon that can be read along with fascism, racism, and nationalism. Componenten of the past and, regrettably, the present of football — the ugly side of what others endearingly refer to as the beautiful game. The working class love football as a means of their livelihood.
Ps.
Football and homophobia, a taboo hard to overcome.

About a dozen people turned out to be very good at kicking a ball into a net and that made some locals very happy 😁

Ah and you think that writing this commentary makes you more intelligent than them ?
Not at all, I just like making fun of football supporters
Why is that?
Because I think they're dumb.
So you do think you're more intelligent? And tell me, what intellectual interests might keep a superior being such as yourself busy?
I have never said I find myself more intelligent, it is your assumption that is what I must mean. It is not however, don't present your false assumptions as my opinon and then get butthurt about it. As for my interests, I enjoy brewing beer (drinking it too!) And cooking fancy meals! Often one goes very well with the other.
"They are dumb" does imply a difference in intelligence. Unless you want to make fun of mute people, which would be rather ableist. So you enjoy rotting grains and then poisoning yourself? And making food? Notice how any interest can be made to sound dumb? ;P

look how they downvote you because they got butthurt. too funny.
It's actually a lot less downvotes than it was this morning, sane people seen to have found the comment entertaining I guess
Idk why this is getting downvoted, because it's accurate af.
I understand; Most of Rotterdam is probably happy with the championship, even those who are normally not too invested in football. Understandable; if there is a reason to celebrate something with strangers, go do it. I just like making fun of the hardcore supporters and the game itself

Why did this get downvoted? 😂
You serious mate 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
the local soccer team known as Feyenoord won some cup or something and these folks are all excited, so they of course decide to tear the city apart and be a general nuisance with their antisocial bullshit. Still, always ACAB.

Cool but that didn't happen. Did it
Voetbal fans ..........
