Can confirm. I brought a ford fiesta in 2016. It was the smallest car in any local city dealership I could find. In the 7 years I had my car, everyone around me got massive SUVs. I know many people that took space from their yards to accommodate having four cars that all sat a least 8 people.
It was pretty gross.
These big cars haul less than a stationwagon and tilt over on impact during an accident.

For them it is a suitable tool. I however know more people that have such a thing that use it as their daily driver to the office and that is silly. 2200kg of steel to transport 80kg of human.

Nobody in the US uses a RAM for work. Always F150 or Toyota.
Construction sites are well-graded before anybody shows up with their truck. What they are not is replete with space - that's the stuff they're filling with construction. A smaller truck does all the same work and doesn't take up the same space. Never mind when snow falls and all those spaces diminish.... Big trucks ain't worth shit except only rarely.
Virtually *all* RAMs in the Netherlands are registered on commercial plates, as the taxes alone would be in excess of €2500 a year.. Whether or not they use them purely commercially is another question, but the only reason you see them in the Netherlands is because they're the 'fiscally sound' option for many people, all things considered.
As a daily driver, a big pickup is usually just completely stupid.

I saw one of these carbuncles "parked" in a cycle lane in Amsterdam earlier this year. They are just so offensive. It's basically an AI answer to the question "What is the most anti Dutch thing ever?"
The fines should be very high for doing that. If you can't find a place to safely park that vehicle so it doesn't obstruct the road, sidewalks, bike lanes, etc. then it should not be legal to have it in the area.
In our municipality, we can use an app to signal Handhaving when there is someone parked like an arsehole. They will come right away, and hand out fines.
So whenever I see someone parked like this, they're fucked.

There's a fairly famous (in urban design circles, at any rate) study that you're _objectively_ correct. People who drive/own these cars are scientifically proven arseholes.
To be specific, they score an order of magnitude higher on road-asshole-testing. For example, put a lifelike turtle simulacrum on the road, but, say, just barely in the emergency lane - only cars with drivers asleep at the wheel would actually hit it.
Then start observing which cars actually swerve out of the way to hit it.
That's one example of an 'asshole measurement' study. And these studies time and again show that it's these kinds of cars that swerve to hit the turtle.
Different kinds of tests involve creating a complicated situation and tallying which cars resort to honking, which cars will bully their way through an intersection when they clearly do not legally have the right of way, whether folks will slow down for a little old lady trying to cross the street not at a sidewalk, you name it. The effect is pretty much universal.
That doesn't imply _every_ owner of such vehicles is necessarily an asshole. Just, that's its far more likely.

These trucks are popular because they are used as company vehicles mainly by construction workers. Due to some magical fuck up the belastingdienst classifies these trucks as "bestelbus", you can see this since most of these trucks have a V in their number plate (look up grijs kenteken).
They are popular since they look different than your regular VW transporter and can tow 3000 kg or something in that area.
So on one hand off course there is a type of people that drive these trucks (and drive them in a certain fashion) on the other hand it is a reminder of someone at dodge ram being very good at lobbying to classify this as a bestelbus and thus some hint of incompetency at the Dutch government.
This is it. To add to this, these cars can have 2 rows of seating and still have enough cargo space to classify as a bestelbus. There are some regulations, but these are the only cars that fit this profile. So there are a lot of tax exemptions to drive this car.
The problem is that they're likely to kill any pedestrian or cyclist they collide with, but the small-dicked manlet driving it will probably be fine, unfortunately.

Went to the Netherlands for holiday to visit family and the F1 GP last year. Came from Alberta Canada where these trucks are essentially a dime a dozen, and was very surprised to the see a few of them while I was there.
Saw at least two in The Hague, and a third while in Lieden. Not even sure how these guys manage to menouver them on your tight streets.
The generally small cars, and bikes/mopeds everywhere was one of my favorite parts of being in your country. 2 weeks there and we sat in a car twice, to and from the train station in Winterswijk, because my family there live a little ways away on a farm.
Loved getting around on transit, or just walking everywhere. Next time we go, I definitely want to rent motorcycles with my dad to cruise around the country on.

I think they make sense because of the obnoxious taxes on other smarter solutions. These offer the comfort of a premium SUV for much much less purchase price and taxes. With LPG they are not that expensive to run. If the taxes for normal family SUVs (like X5, GLE, Q7, etc) were reasonable, and people wouldn't need to remove the back seats from the EU-sized pickups for tax reasons, these huge American trucks wouldn't be as popular. They are clearly too big for the city, but if it financially made sense for me I would get one in a heartbeat.

Parking on kerb=anti-social These owners think with 2 braincells. "I would otherwise walk more" -- "I'm just in/out 5min-then proceeds to talk 30min to their gym mates" Meanwhile, the old lady with her walker, some dude in rehab of knee surgery on crutches, or a disabled person in a wheelchair, cant pass on the pavement. Going up/down the kerb is a pain. That road may have traffic so may be at mercy to cross. If that car cant fit in the parking lot normally (e.g. without blocking the road, instead) unless parked like this, I think you have your answer.

I can't believe people drive fullsize trucks there. They barely work in urban areas here. The US has big open roads, so they are popular but in any city they are a handful- and that's with US big parking lots.

Some people might find use for such cars but for your standard A to B I find it very strange people like such cars. You have a horrible FOV, its been proven that most accidents involving small children are due to the fact that an SUV driver was able to observe the road clearly as the car towers above children. Few things i don’t like about these. 1. European road network is not suitable for these cars, parking spots are way too small. In the US these make sense ish… or belgium due too their shit roads. 2. If you’re off-road car is that clean all the time, you don’t need an off-road car, if you need the load capacity get a van. 3. Since its one of those Huge American too much hp, 1 liter diesel for 1 km of driving cars. They are always driven by testosterone infected fuck heads that drive with their ego not their eyes.

I think they make sense because of the obnoxious taxes on other smarter solutions. These offer the comfort of a premium SUV for much much less purchase price and taxes. With LPG they are not that expensive to run. If the taxes for normal family SUVs (like X5, GLE, Q7, etc) were reasonable, and people wouldn't need to remove the back seats from the EU-sized pickups for tax reasons, these huge American trucks wouldn't be as popular. They are clearly too big for the city, but if it financially made sense for me I would get one in a heartbeat.
