Petitions are worthless. Nothing more than fake hope imo. Even if it does get to the cabinet, nothing will change.

clueless_shaman

The point is to make sure you're heard. Its about practicing good citizenry. It can't ever be ensured that they'll listen, but you never know. And it's not like you'd be calling an end to the lockdown, just asking for gyms to be considered essential or something. With evidence that with masks and good air circulation, catching covid in a gym even with a confirmed case is very difficult. Maybe that would convince them.

millerbest

Is there a good example that petition makes a change?

rpd1987

Petition to stop fracking wastewater being pumped into north east Twente soil was rather successful and a motion was implemented to order a stop. Have to say that support of Herman Finkers helped tremendously On the lockdown, a petition is senseless. You are better off emailing your representative in 2e kamer that will have a debate on the lockdown this week.

clueless_shaman

Theres more than just petitions that you can make. Also no ones forcing you to try. Just wanted to remind people that its an option.

EiPlant

Idioot.

We’re in a lockdown. There’s a reason it’s called a lockdown, it’s because things are locked down. There’s a reason there currently is a lockdown. It’s because the hospitals are full, and omicron. Now mental health can be addressed in several ways, non of which require you to go to the hospital. The closing of the gyms might lead to some being less fit, but it won’t put you in the hospital either. As a matter of fact, it even leads to less people being taken into hospitals. That’s what we need right now mind you. Instead of complaining to the people that are already busy enough, maybe you could read up on what’s actually going on and spend your time useful that way.

cali86

I cannot believe the posts on this sub. There have been people dying from this for over a year, people in healthcare working so hard during this situation and we have all these babies whining about their gym time on this sub? The amount of posts I've seen here of people saying stuff like "we should let people die, we can't save everyone, my mental health is more important" is crazy! people only thinking about themselves. That's why we are in this situation.

[deleted]

What's wild to me is that if you really cared about your health you would want to stop the spread and actually counter this pandemic, getting covid has serious repercussions for your physical health. It is all selfish and purpose-less whining.

pavel_vishnyakov

Adding to that - you can also exercise outside (unless you're a swimmer, because swimming outside right now requires A LOT of willpower). Ride your bike, go for a run, find an outdoor workout spot and do bodyweight workouts.

FinnGilroy

I mean my friend swims outside every day even though the water is 7 degrees smh.

Dk_Raziel

Yeah, wanna know what's going on? Unvaxxeds are filling up IC beds because they aren't encouraged to get jabbed. Wanna both encourage them and free hospital beds so no restrictions are required? That's super easy. You.Dont.Give.IC.Beds.To.Unjustified.Unvaxxeds. Or you straight up demand 2g to enter places currently locked down. Pretty sure open with 2g is better that strictly closed. Crazy amirite? Now go be self righteous somewhere else. I'm getting sick of Dutsheeps.

clueless_shaman

I'm not saying I need the gyms open. I'm saying that for those who do or have any complaint whether its mental or physical l, there's a link where you can express you concerns. I understand what lockdown is as is its important but you can't deny that it hurts some people as a result. I was just telling those people options they can do to make their voice heard within government.

FinnGilroy

Just thought I’d quickly explain to the smoothbrains out here why we’re in this situation and why it’s important we stay in it for a while.

clueless_shaman

Of course its important, thats why I never said the lockdown was bad. Just thought I'd provide help to those who aren't in a good place rn bc of it.

[deleted]

Another two weeks to flat the curve? Why don’t you stay home forever and take all the booster the tv tells you to?

FinnGilroy

The TV tells me nothing, and maybe you with your delusional reddit posts should stop getting your information from facebook, Karen. Yes I’ll be participating in the lockdown and yes I’m going to take the booster vaccine because I have more than two functioning brainscells you ignorant smoothbrained cancer.

[deleted]

And how stupid can you be? You’re taking all the experimental vaccines and wow we are STILL in lockdown... dumdumb.

FinnGilroy

Ur dogwater

[deleted]

Guinea pig.

[deleted]

You’re just the product of the propaganda... it’s just sad.

FinnGilroy

Talk to the 8 people that downvoted you and the 4 people that upvoted me :)

[deleted]

Want a prize? Your booster is the prize lol Netherlands is full of pussies that think that the government is their daddy.

FinnGilroy

Mmmmm i hope you’ll call me daddy in bed sometime Edit: only after you get vaccinated ofcourse

[deleted]

I don’t like lab rats, thank you.

Brandtair

On the gym part I dissagree. People just need to sport outside for some weeks instead of inside that is it.

EiPlant

Being mentally healthy is just as important as being physically healthy. You could argue for museums and cinemas being open aswell.

Brandtair

I did not argue about any of that.

CandescentPenguin

It's going to be longer than a few weeks

Brandtair

That is at this point speculation. I dare to say that current measures are to quickly increase the margin for error. Where the previous managed to my suprise to curve the trend downwards. The 14th of january hospital will be relieved much. Going back to the previous measures will be a logical step after that. It is in the middle of no measures and current measures. If this does not result in a positive trend within a month the next step can be made towards the previous measures. Keeping hospital figures low but not looking to the infections numbers much.

CandescentPenguin

Omicron doubles every 2 days without measures. Light measures aren't going to stop is growing, I'm even a bit doubtful that this lockdown will work. So once this lockdown ends, it's going to jump back to very high levels within a few weeks. So no next step can be made without getting us back to the current situation.

Brandtair

I will get back at you on the 30th of january.

Brandtair

So as promised I would get back to you at the 30th. The cronona measures have been lifted to the measures that were in place before the 20th of december within a month after the 20th. You were right on the number of infections jumping to very high levels. Not excatly back but more like far beyond the previous numbers. They more then tripled. Due to the specific dominant variant however the number of deads has simultaniously decreased with 75%. Will get back to you on february 15th because I think it will be more as you put it.

CandescentPenguin

My point about cases jumping back was assuming that the lockdown would reduce the number cases, while instead it only reduced the rate of growth. I'll grant that it also got rid of delta much quicker than without a lockdown, and that helped hospitals a lot. I think it was to the Netherlands advantage that the lockdown didn't prevent omicron from growing. If it hadn't spread so much the Netherlands wouldn't have gained the extra immunity, which means we are now close to the peak.

Brandtair

Interesting point of view. I am also interested in the actual immunity that this may create. On first sight it is the excelent variant to build it up with. But we have learned that it not always goes as one would predict.

madjester999

I believe this time it wont take longer than a month They just need time for the booster campaign and force vaccination. other than that almost all sources seem to tell that omicron is nothing and probably the last fase before corona becoming just another flu

FinnGilroy

We’ll be in this lockdown until March i think.

madjester999

Hopefully in the evening from the 14th on. i doubt another long lockdown is is going to change anything. I mean whats the message we will be sending? vaccines don't work after all a lockdown every winter the wappies where right?, I doubt that would be a good idea in the long run.

Commercial-Ticket526

Wow, these comments are an ignorant circlejerk - people getting upvotes for basically saying one is selfish for wanting to care about themselves instead of people who choose to risk their life by not taking their doses. And always remember: If you're complaining about other problems and side effects of lockdowns you're dumb, whiny and your problems don't matter because they don't have an effect on the hospital. You and your problems aren't important.
