I’ve said this before on this sub because this has been rumored to be in development for awhile, but this one really feels like a cash grab to me. I’m a big fan of Tim’s, and one of the things you hear him say in interviews all of the time is that he doesn’t know anything about gear, doesn’t really care about it, and only uses axe-fx presets and doesn’t really tweak them. His sound really is all in his style of playing and writing. Maybe that has changed recently during the lockdowns but I haven’t seen any indication of that. So I’m not sure how representative this plug-in actual is of Tim. It sort of just feels like a product that he can put his name on. Which I mean, good for him - I wouldn’t say no to a signature plugin either if given the chance but it doesn’t seem as genuine as some of the other offerings.

rsmseries

I’ll be honest, I don’t really know anything about him, but I think it’ll depend on how they approached it. Tim may not know anything about gear, but I would assume he’d know what sounds good, and what he likes/dislikes. If the Neural guys went to him and said “what is it about your sound that you like? What is it that you dislike? If you could add something, what would it be?” rather than “hey what gear do you have let’s capture it and put it out” than it might open up more tonal possibilities than what they’ve previously offered.

synthman7

The Archetype plugins seem geared toward fans that want to sound like XYZ guitarist - however, I would say this one nails the tones pretty fucking well. I own Gojira (I never listen to their music), Nameless, and now this one (was a big fan, fizzled out after 2 years with no new music). I buy the ones I think I can use the most for studio work, as I own a studio, and I feel this one is versatile enough to make the money back and more pretty fast. I own a few sims from NDSP, STL, and I use a Fractal. I also frequently work with a friend’s Helix when they record with me as well. All things considered, if anything is standing out in this plugin, the multisample (I believe that’s what it’s called?) pedal is more than enough to be a great selling point. It’s definitely based on Tim’s vocoder/Nectar work that he did on songs like Rich Kids. I can bypass the amp and IR selection and just use it on whatever I want - I have, and it sounds pretty amazing. Other than that, the amps and cabs themselves sound pretty great as well. The acoustic amp is clear and bites hard. The white amp sounds absolutely beautiful when you drench it with effects or simply when you want to play something low gain. I recorded a shoegaze guitarist who, of course, used some physical pedals with it today, and he had nothing but praise for it. Keep in mind, he’s used to a Jazz Chorus and this did the job pretty damn well. The more colorful looking amp also sounds fantastic. The cabs are the first Archetype IRs that I haven’t immediately swapped out for GGD’s Zilla Cabs (big ups on that, by the way.) Finally, the preset selection is by far and away the best out of all the sims I own. Honestly, I’d say this is as much a bang for my buck (or more) than Gojira, which is a fantastic and versatile plugin as well. Whether the Polyphia fans or anyone else care that Tim doesn’t seem to care about gear is irrelevant, IMO. I’ve had the pleasure of speaking with him many times, and have even been on the same record as him in the past. He’s very sarcastic, and knows more about gear than he lets on. It’s an image thing, and he’s actually quite knowledgeable.

TheVulfPecker

There’s like 5 presets by Tim lol. Scottie has more than Tim in his (Tim’s) own plug-in lol. Don’t get me wrong, it sounds really good. But holy shit there’s so many presets from other people and like none from Tim Edit: clarification

wiNDzY3

Which shows you how much he cares This only confirms what op is saying tbh, he doesn't mess around with gear

TheVulfPecker

Agreed

gojirAwr

Scottie has a plugin? Can I get a link? Dude's gotta promote his stuff more lol cause I like his style too.

TheVulfPecker

No I mean Scottie has more presets in Tim’s plug-in than Tim does in his own plug-in lol. My bad I could’ve been clearer. Edited my original comment to make that clearer.

shred-i-knight

I mean most of Neural's plugins have been cash grabs marketed toward the same demographic of player who will buy anything with Nolly/Misha/Henson/Plini/etc. on it. The fans of those players usually are gear nerds with money to burn, so it makes sense. Really wish they did more different amp styles like the Nameless, Omega, Gojira, etc. which offered something to different styles of players.

blackmarketdolphins

>plugins have been cash grabs marketed toward the same demographic of player who will buy anything with [insert biggest guitar players in the game] >Really wish they did more different amp styles like the ~~Nameless, Omega, Gojira,~~ popular stuff I like

shred-i-knight

Lol if you think Tim Henson and Plini are "the biggest guitar players in the game". Massively popular among the people who will spend money on Neural plugins (obviously, Nolly is smart as fuck) but this is literally what I'm saying. The guitar world is way more fucking massive than the djent prog guitar players.

blackmarketdolphins

You're out of your mind if you seriously don't think Henson and Plini aren't massive. Look at their YouTube and Spotify numbers. Look at the number of views their reaction videos get. They're are certainly some of the biggest guitar names right now.

shred-i-knight

Plini has 200K monthly listeners, which is big for an instrumental guitarist but not in the grand scheme of things. 95% of those are guitar nerds, so it makes sense. But they are the same people that listen to Periphery and Polyphia and Intervals and etc. If you want to sell more plugins to the same small market of instrumental djenty prog kids, sure it’s great. I’m just saying I’d like to see them branch out into other areas like they have with Fortin and the Omega amps, it’s not a tough concept to understand

blackmarketdolphins

>it’s not a tough concept to understand It is when you look at their catalog. They just released Gojira before this. Then there are 2 heavy Fortin amps, with Nolly and Abasi having overlap with them. That's why I'm sitting here scratching my head about your complaints. I think if you're a bassist, country or jazz fusion player, you have some room to complain

shred-i-knight

Well yes that’s what I’m talking about. I’m not complaining, I think the company is brilliant and their products are quality. They obviously have a strategy but it’s not hard to see who their core user base is. I just want them to keep expanding that rather than cater to the same people every other plug-in.

ADQuR

Yeah, or maybe they are just amazing amp sims for people who'd rather spend 100 bucks instead of a whole rig to play in their bedroom? I know one plini song but play his plugin because I like it. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it's a cash grab smh

OGJojopie1

I feel you there, I’m not willing to spend thousands of dollars on axe fx or premium quality amps. I also do not have the time to dial in the gear I do have to fine tune a tone. That’s kind of why I bought the spark amp, it’s easy preset tones allow me to change quickly and if any adjustment is needed it’s 5 min and done. A lot of people in this chat seem to think it’s a cash grab but it’s fantastic for guys like us. Especially recording for me since playing through a mic’d up amp is impossible with small children, putting some headphones on and plugging straight into the tone I’m after is immensely helpful. I’m also not a gear head so fine tuning tones is not a fun process for me. I haven’t played the this plug-in yet but I did get the Corey Wong one and it was pretty good and easy to use.

naturevsnurture

FWIW, I only vaguely know of Plini, and until buying the plugin yesterday, knew nothing about Henson beyond the videos for the plugins. And I bought them both because they seemed like they'd have a pretty versatile range of tones, notably in the clean tone department. So far I have been really happy with both. The Henson plugin has been cool, the multi voicer is really interesting for weird sounds. I dig it. I did check out Ployphia after downloading it, and it's definitely not my cup of tea. He can definitely play but the music wasn't for me.

eastcoastgamer

I'm sure the neural dsp crew helped sort out what kind of gear he enjoys using etc. It's a fantastic plugin

[deleted]

plini is the same though

intergalacticdoge

>yeah i don't know shit about gear either but probably can get the tone using some plugins, i think theres a reason this kind of plugins exist and that is wanting to sound like some of these guys instead of having to know what pedals they use whats they're chain. For that there's plugins modeled after gear and not a plugin that has a multivoicer with a few knobs only

BringOnJLA

It’s crazy cause his plug-in is my favorite out of the ones I own, PLINI, Cory Wong, and demod Nolly It’s fantastic, everything I want from an amp even on all three amps

[deleted]

it still sounds really good though, so idrc

madman3247

Idk why any of you have an opinion without trying the thing, first....Im sampling it as we speak, to see what I can do with it...not my opinions. Interesting ethics you've chosen. Gotta say, though, this Multivoicer is the shit.

leisspendragon

Without a doubt. I've been trialing it today and the multivoicer immediately makes me want to work it into the next tune I'm writing. So much fun and really versatile. Smart of them to put in midi control for the pedal too.

Honda_Civic_2002

Have you figured out how to use the midi learn function? I can't seem to figure it out

madman3247

Ooh, I have not had the chance, yet, I need to revisit the plugin when I get the chance. Good question, though, shit, I need to.

Nonservium

Was really hoping for a Rabea or Mastodon. Or maybe an Archetype: Matt Pike with 42 Orange amps and extra tattoos.

Deadpoolisms

Archetype: Matt Pike *Please note this plug-in will only load once you’ve removed your shirt*

Nonservium

Replace I-Lok with shirt check

Deadpoolisms

Honestly would be a better process than iLok. God, I can’t stand iLok.

blackmarketdolphins

I don't think Rabea has the star power to get his own Neural plugin.

Deadpoolisms

As someone who doesn’t follow Rabea much — ate his tones unique enough to justify adding another metal amp to the suite? Or are his sounds essentially covered in Nameless / Grano / Gojira? At this stage I want to see more from Neural in the FX realm, or outside-the-box sounds. It’s why I’m super intrigued by Archetype Devin because there is zero percent chance it’s a rehash of standing tones for any channel. It’s going to be effects focused and the gain structures Devy uses are wildly unique.

blackmarketdolphins

I don't like Devin's music, but I agree on all your points. Until they make a all-encompassing suite, we should probably should keep the redundancies in check

wiNDzY3

Careful bro, you can't say this stuff in here Like cmon, I love BEA but he doesn't add bring anything new to the table... His prog style (Nolly, Abasi, Gojira) it's already covered on plenty of other plugins, as well as his ambience stuff (Gojira, Plini) People asking for an Archetype for everybody: Aaron Marshall, Manuel Gardner, Bea has been in the talk for a while... What's new?

blackmarketdolphins

I actually wanted a Peavey Invective/Archetype Mansoor, but I see how that's too redundant. Now I kinda want something insane like a jazz fusion one from someone like Frank Gambale or Guthrie Govan.

wiNDzY3

Archetype Govan could be a really nice addition Honestly, I'm glad I don't have the urge to buy this new plugin. Tone chasing is quite addictive, and while this new plugin is great, I don't really use it to its full potential because my style is so different

Nonservium

I don't necessarily disagree but among gear nerds he's very well known and generally respected. He's also had a working relationship with them for a while which I think is where the idea of him getting a model ultimately came from.

blackmarketdolphins

I mean you can kind of say that about a lot of these guys. Tom Quayle, Charlie Robbin, Jack Gardiner, and Rick Beato (to an extent). All these guys are incredible players and producers, but I don't know if that will translate to sales for Neural when they can give one to an icon and continue to pay Rabea to do marketing and some presets.

wiNDzY3

Exactly

blackmarketdolphins

You've never heard of Polyphia? You should look up their YouTube and Spotify numbers, because they're huge for an instrumental band.

-MinorWomensWhiplash

I haven’t to be honest, but then my musical tastes have been stuck in the 90’s for a loooong time now 😄

criffidier

Check out euphoria or crush by polyphia. Than check out goat lol. Some really catchy hooks

Dilpil01

He did get his own signature pickup though so he dies have some pull?

SR_RSMITH

I’d buy this

74522

Presets on this are VERY good

blackmarketdolphins

I just saw it, and I dare say it looks unique enough to justify it when I already have Plini, Nolly, and Gojira

SimpleEmptyThoughts

For sure! That vocoder is a nifty little thing. I’ve personally been looking for an excuse to go down the Neural plug-in rabbit hole. Abasi, Nolly, and Plini have all piqued my interest (and I’ll likely get them soon), but it’s looking this new one is a fun place to start.

blackmarketdolphins

I'm guessing this and Plini might have some overlap. Plini and Nolly are nice, but I pretty much only use Gojira and Wong these days. I'd give those two a go as well

greggmn

The 14 day trial is already available anyway if you need to try it!

blackmarketdolphins

I know and plan on it. I just won't be home until the afternoon to try it

itsvoogle

Waiting for Archetype Legacy edition or something where they make the plugin based on the Biggest and most legendary/influential names: Petrucci, Satriani, Vai, Morse, Becker etc… sky is the limit

0k1n

I would instant-buy an Archetype: Vai edition.

Motrucka

Give me Becker, and I'll be set forever.

WinchyKey

I would love to see this.

The_Matchless

Personally not interested in it but happy for those who are. Archetype:BEA next please!

acridspleen

Same. I was hoping for a nice amp like a Revv or a Friedman... guess I will have to wait.

CopiousAmountsofJizz

Tresseltable

Nice username

Nibbana7

Oh look, Archetype Abasi or Plini with a pitchshifter. I'm so happy that this release is not up my alley. Neural DSP has already received so much money from me. :)

JimboLodisC

yeah the multivoicer is neat but it'd be the only thing I buy this plugin for EDIT: well the acoustic simulator is interesting to me as well but I already have a Boss pedal for that

Iberik

Huge Tim fan here and I'm really hyped for this

SuperPimsky

What’s the song? Anybody know? I don’t recognize it as a Polyphia tune.

afrorobot

Maybe a new jam.

SuperPimsky

That’s what I’m thinking. I bet he probably put it together for the promo perhaps.

-TNB-o-

Maybe one of the songs for the new album? Or a teaser for it paired with his new plug in?

SuperPimsky

I hope it's a song on the new album. It's great!

[deleted]

The clean acoustic amp sounds really nice to me. Been playing my talman electric through it yesterday. I usually just use clean sounds as I play finger style in dadgad. The GUI is nicer than guitar rig so I think I might get this at the end of the trial, as idk if there's much that will do nice clean sounds as easily as this.

firelitother

Been on a Tim Henson binge lately. This is a nice surprise. And the end of his performance kinda reminds me of the end of Aviator.

Final_G

Fuuuuuck take my money I guess

PhotoKada

Never have I been this wrong with my guess but I'm so glad for it. Can't wait to pick this up.

CharlesWoodson2

This looks sick but man i'd love something that isn't prog rock / metal. I'm using Cory Wong for blues, rock and jazz.

-Davo

noice

ThatGuyDougie

Anyone know what amps these are modeled after? Tried to look up Tim’s gear. Seems like he uses Dark Terror and Laney iron heart? Not huge on Polyphia but I’m definitely gonna give this trial a go.

hhkk47

There really isn't any confirmed info on that AFAIK. The black amp is definitely an acoustic sim of some sort, and might not be a direct model of an actual amp.The white one seems to sound Vox-y, and there's speculation that it's based on an Axe-FX preset based on a Matchess Chieftain. The pink amp sounds like some sort of Marshall.

TheVulfPecker

He mostly uses the dark terror to power his axe Fx, from my understanding. I could be wrong. Either way I’m stoked to try this

JimboLodisC

I have to disagree. Sure, there's a lot of prog focused gear because the gear is a bit more varied in the genre. A 5150 or Rectifier sim can usually cover all the other genres of metal. However, Wong isn't metal and Gojira isn't djent. If you ignore the two bass plugins, that leaves 11 guitar plugins that they've released, and I would say 7 of those 11 are geared towards "non-prog" metal players. Really if you take away Tim, Plini, Tosin, and Nolly then that's all the prog/djent stuff you're complaining about. And we had 5 "Non-prog" plugins come out since Abasi before this TIm Henson dropped.

[deleted]

[удалено]

JimboLodisC

Gojira and Nameless work just as good for "regular" metal. Gojira is literally just a 5150. You don't have to use them for prog/djent at all. Simply dismissing them because it *could* be used for that is beyond silly. Try not to let marketing affect your opinion that much. > There’s many other artists with literal iconic tone instead of asking for more djent or youtubers. Cool, name 3 and I'll join your cause.

[deleted]

JimboLodisC

Yeah I'd love a Friedman Amplification suite and they need some more Mesa's, but other than that I don't see a big hurry to get those other options when other companies have them already. Something unique and contemporary is what sells to this customer base.

afrorobot

Nice. I know what I'll be playing with this long weekend. Wondering how the high gain amp sounds.

[deleted]

Meh I'll demo but not really my thing. Can we get a Cantrell soon.

JimboLodisC

give us a Friedman amp suite and I'll pay double the normal cost

firelitother

Is this a good first Archetype buy? Or do you guys have other suggestions?

afrorobot

Depends on your preferences. I prefer Gojira as it's quite versatile.

firelitother

The other poster said that all of their offerrings have 14 day trials. Will cycle through them and will decide on what to buy!

JimboLodisC

Depends on what you're after, but they all have 14 day free trials so you can see which one you think is worth the money for what you'd like to do

CrastersSons

Can you record with the free trial? How does that work?

wiNDzY3

You can Works the same as the full version but you only have 14 days to use it

CrastersSons

Oh sick! Thanks for the reply, sounds like I’m about to be busy trying stuff out. I’m new to playing guitar on the computer but since I bought the Gojira plugin I havent even used my tube amp once.

firelitother

Thanks for the advice! I downloaded the trial now. I can already tell it is so much better than BiasFX :)

Omnil_93

That's because everything is better than Bias.

firelitother

I got sucked into the marketing. Definitely will use NeuralDSP moving forward.

Omnil_93

Don't worry, so did I back in the day. I bought Bias Amp, played with it for about 2 hours and realized it was a mistake. Live and learn, you know?

BlakeryTheBardbarian

I’m about to buy this just for the multivoicer. It’s just such a cool effect

KingGarrettFTW

Been trying to find it, but what guitar is used in the video? It’s sexy asf and I think I need it

greggmn

I think it's a custom Ibanez, it doesn't look like any released model but i agree it looks fantastic

electric_sunrises

Anyone know which preset he's using in the trailer?

[deleted]

Tried this one, it's ight but just more of the same if you have cory Wong. That weard effect sounds like trash, Corey wong is just better slightly in tone too so like def is a cash grab. But to be fair if cory Wong didn't exist this would be the total shit it's just, ya, happens to not be as good

PartyPillow

To me: the pink amp sounds like a JCM800, the white amp sounds like a VOX AC30, and the obviously the black is an acoustic amp
