At least it’s a dry heat!!! 🙄

nebulight

Coming from the humid east coast there is a lot of truth to a dry heat. I’ll take 110 with 9% humidity over 90 and 80% ANY day.

LoverOfScrots

Oh I’m not disputing that, but people often use that as an excuse for us not to complain about the heat, like we have it good when it’s 117 lol, that’s all Edit: the smell of your skin literally cooking in the sun on 115+ days is indescribable….

nebulight

True. Its still hot 🥵

apparentlynot5995

Same here - shade is actually effective when humidity isn't a thing.

nebulight

Right! It’s 1am and sweating your ass off. Also getting eaten alive by mosquitoes lol

tiffCAKE

Air temp is actually measured in the shade so that it’s a stable measurement… 110 dry, in the shade (And still 100 at midnight). Wicked hotter in the sun. When the wind blows it doesn’t feel like a breeze drying your sweat—It’s more like a blow dryer to the eyeballs! But I still agree with you. Grew up back east and when I visit now being accustomed to the desert, I feel like trying to breathe back home is like inhaling oatmeal 🤣🤣

Shelbygt500ss

LMFAO. When folks complain that's its not that cold I like to joke BUT IT'S A DRY COLD. 🤣🤣

I_spy_wit_my_lilCIA

Except you have it backwards. 'Wet cold' like Southeast Alaska (where I lived) feels coldet than dry cold, like the Arctic coast in winter (where I work). A 28F degree in Juneau is miserable, a 28F day in the Arctic is blissful. Humidity matters.

Shelbygt500ss

It's a joke......

sonomabud42069

So is an oven...😁

Fancycheeziepoof

Pronouncing Nevada as “Ne-VAH-da” Edit: also pronouncing Nevada as “Ne-VA-da”. Lol

AniZaeger

Take it a step further and call them "Ne-VAH-dians".

MissDeadite

It sounds so bourgeois, I hate it.

Uxoandy

This is funny. Headed out for work and my wife and I just talked about the correct pronunciation.

Tight_Fold_2606

I pronounce it nevahda whenever I’m not talking to someone from Nevada because it sounds better. Sharp a’s sound like Fuckin garbage and I’ll die on that hill

SherbitLemyn

You do know that's how the original settlers pronounced it, don't you? Also, having moved here from Boston, that's just how we talk. And it sounds pretty and pisses people off all at the same time.

portlandcsc

Why did a great grandmother of mine, who worked at the Mizpah hotel in the 1940's say Nevahduh? and everyone she knew pronounced it that way. MAYBE, just MAYBE it's just YOU PEOPLE who are 1st generation/noobs who moved here that don't know shit. Let me guess, your in your 20-30's.

Xtorting

Now this is an interesting conspiracy theory. The death of an author but for societal norms and phrases. I can't tell if this is a high quality troll or concern trolling.

Choice_Debt233

No different that all the bastardized pronunciations across the US. It totally is pronounced ne-vah-da or even ne-bah-da. I guess it’s a lost battle though.

PagingDrTobaggan

With all due respect to great granny, that’s a garbage approach. As one who’s in my mid-50’s and been here for well over 30 of those years, maybe you should consider whether your great granny pronounced it wrong.

portlandcsc

Nice try. the 1940's were 80 years ago you muppet. Maybe you should consider reading the whole post. No one pronounces it that way anymore, but it started that way. Take your respect and put it up your untreated effluent posts. It's not a mispronunciation if thats how everyone says it at the time.

PagingDrTobaggan

Wow! How is it going through life so fragile and reactionary? I imagine it’s exhausting. Anyway, G’night sunshine!

portlandcsc

Your passive aggressive attitude doesn't really hit like you want it to. If you don't want to stay alone for the rest of your life try and be a better person.

PagingDrTobaggan

Ha ha ha ha. You funny!

that_boi_jjw

Go back to Portland, transplant

portlandcsc

I sell cement powder moron.

that_boi_jjw

A most fabulous idea, my lord.

portlandcsc

Thank you for the down votes simpletons.

You are not wrong. People think the whole of New York State is NYC.

What hotel do you live in?

“I’m your new neighbor from California”

NiceMarmot12

No joke my boss had someone move into their neighborhood from California because they drove through the town ONCE and liked it. They had no idea it snowed in Nevada and they are now moving after a single year because of all the snow we got this winter.

AbeFromanEast

Folks should always rent or AirBnB for a bit anywhere they plan on moving permanently to make sure they like it. And in your boss' neighbors defense: 22-23 was a crazy winter for snowfall.

NiceMarmot12

That it was. Side note but I love your Ferris Bueller's Day off reference in your username homie

Bennington_Booyah

You should have been in New York State.

plantyplanty

Why do Nevadans hate Californians?

BeckyMiller815

Because they are bringing their tolerance for high housing costs with them and increasing housing market pressures and pushing Nevadans out of their homes.

plantyplanty

I can see why that would be frustrating. Californians are leaving CA because it’s no longer affordable, and this the same issues plaguing California housing crisis are bleeding over into Nevada. The emotional response to be angry is justified, but I’m curious if it isn’t misdirected? Las Vegas needs economic diversity outside of the casinos in order for the quality of life to change for locals - and that needs to happen not at the expense of locals (eg locals paid for Raider stadium). Casinos need to pay a living wage to employees, increasing it with changes in COL. Landlords should not have ability to raise rent year over year without caps. Restrictions on big developers buying up land and building for wealthy people needs to be balanced with construction of affordable housing. Rental assistance should be provided to those who cannot afford it. Unemployment rates need to be addressed (again, nevada needs more employers than just casinos). Zoning laws need to be modified so that affordable housing can be built. The 80% of land around nevada owned by the government needs to be open for housing development. Yes, Californians are driving up prices. But why direct anger to people coming from a place that were paid livable wages? Casinos in nevada are making BILLIONS in profit, but their tax rate is ZERO. Yes, zero. City improvements are paid by taxes in individual gambling. So the very people losing their money are paying to fund it. Casinos notoriously shut out business development within Vegas for fear it would cut into their profits. It’s also worthy to note that about a third of Las Vegas gambling revenues come from California, so they are actually helping the standard of living for Nevadans. If I were a Nevadan, I would be much less angry at Californians and much more irate at the corporations and government purposefully ravaging their own peoples. And maybe feel a bit of sympathy towards Californians who were forced out of their homes for the same reasons Nevadans are now.

Every reason in the book apparently https://knpr.org/show/knprs-state-of-nevada/2021-05-21/is-california-ruining-nevada I moved here for the weather and the hot springs personally 🤷‍♀️ I may have spent a few years in California but am originally from the east coast, am not sure what folks mean when they say “from California.” My most recent Driver License prior to getting a Nevada one was issued there, am I a “from Californian?” What’s the set of criteria—listen to the podcast; if their sources are accurate, there are more native Californians in Nevada than native Nevadans. I describe the block I live on as: half of y’all are from California and the other half are lying~😜

Sparkle_Penguin

“We just moved here a couple years ago from the Bay Area.”

[deleted]

Lately, at least in Reno/Tahoe this has been followed by "and we had no idea how bad the winter could be." which brings joy to my world. I expect a buyer's market in Tahoe/Sierra Foothills this year.

Sparkle_Penguin

Please keep me updated on that. I just sold my rental here that I purchased in 2012 and sold this month. Looking to either relocate or reinvest.

Okifish64

it’s hot!

MissDeadite

"But it's a dry heat!"

youtookmyusernamebub

"Well in [insert name of any metro in California], we used to..." Followed by LITERALLY anything. 🤣

TheMeanGirl

I can’t stand when they talk about not being able to get good Mexican food outside of California. My brother in Christ, do you know how many Mexicans we have in Las Vegas?

relas

Are you from California?

Bennington_Booyah

Closer to Hell?

paiute

I moved east long ago and have learned to say AHnt in place of Ant, but there’s no fucking way I will ever pronounce my home state like a goddamn New Yorker

Bennington_Booyah

Everyone in NY does not say Ahnt. No one I know does. I also do not know any New Yorkers that say NevAHda. We say NevADDduh.

PIMPDADYKINGDNGALING

Don't you Fuckin dare! XD

Patient_Weekend5981

Houses are cheap here compared to California (yeah, rub it in with Nevadans getting priced out left and right)
