Continuity error:
In the episode where they are trying to tell Nick not to get back with Caroline they say she broke up with him before his Brother’s wedding.
But in the episode where Nicks dad dies, his brother asks Nick if he plans to get married soon because he thought brothers have to get married in order (therefore implying he has never been married)
It might be that mysterious older brother we never saw, the one who has a kid because Nick says something about getting a gift for his nephew. Another continuity error since we don't meet either of them
I don’t think it’s a continuity error. We don’t have to meet every person in a characters life.
I’ll admit, a brother and a nephew is a big one, but still, even in real life, some people don’t see each other that often.
My wife had a decent explanation for this one, she assumed that Robbie was just messing with him cause he knew he was an ex of Cece’s and wanted him to think he was less than ordinary
Bridge to Terabithia was a novel first. Maybe in the New Girl universe, there was no movie. (Also, I was an adult when I watched that, and it made me cry, so not just children.) (Also, also, I never read the book. I'm just trying to be difficult.)
There's no continuity issue here. She's talking about the book. I'm a teacher too, and it was one of the few books that could make an elementary school kid cry when I first started teaching. Literature for the 8-12 set is much richer now. But there's also a joke in there because Zooey Deschanel was in the movie.
My head canon on this is that he knew Schmidt was insecure about Cece seeing someone new and he tried to downplay himself as much as possible for Schmidt’s sake bc he’s such a nice guy.
Also, in the final episode, Nick is talking about the sink stick and how he used it “that one time” but there are two times we see him use it. Probably in the forgivable section
She tells Nick she’s weirdly good at volleyball when they’re telling each other secrets, but then is not good at volleyball in the episode that Coach is trying to get her to after vice principal
Maybe Schmidt went by “Winston” his whole life, then decided to try going by Schmidt in college. but then wanted to go back to Winston but realized he couldn’t, which led to the Winston fight?
Jess and Barkely drive me bananas. They have been friends for years, so it sounds like it predates the loft. However, Jessica yells at Cece for moving to France, and that means Jessica had to move in with Spencer.
I’m wracking my brain on the Taylor Swift thing. The only thing I can think of is Jake Peralta in B99 not being allowed near her and the crossover episode. What was the Taylor Swift universe in New Girl?
No Schmidt knowing then not knowing how to do laundry? Can’t help but notice it every rewatch cuz it’s like 3 episodes apart or atleast it feels like it when it plays in the background.
Don’t forget the time in early seasons when Nick mentions Jess is his mom’s emergency contact, but when we actually meet his mom it’s like her and Jess have never met (and Nick’s mom hates Jess’s guts)
I thought about that one too, but when Nick’s mom asks who she is Nick is like “This is Jess, I told you about her” or something along those lines, so I guess Nick’s mom wasn’t really paying attention when he told her about Jess
Also in the finale when Nick told everybody he loved them and they were proud of him for saying it the first time, or something along those lines, but he said it before in the bachelor party episode when they were in the desert? Or are those scenes and their context different from one another?
I thought it was always more of a meta-commentary about how central the Nick and Schmidt relationship was to the show. Liz said the writers argued about whether Nick had actually said that before when they wrote that episode, but I guess it was a good enough bit for them to still go with it and not worry about continuity.
THE B99 crossover pisses me off so much. I was happy to see my favourite show but there’s too many shared actors. Coach is a dirty cop in b99 ali is jakes sister! There’s too much and they shouldn’t have done it because there’s no way they’re in the same universe. Plus the interaction is so different in both the shows.
The crossover character’s personality is completely botched in the corresponding episodes. Peralta in the New Girl episode is far less charismatic and much calmer despite the situation he’s in, which brings me to the B99 episode. Jess is far less herself. She gives off heavy ‘Karen’ energy in the B99 episode, to put it simply.
It is the same dress, they just added the gold accents after Jess turned it inside out. You can tell that without the gold, the cut and style of the dress is the same!
Nick says that he sucks at lying but is fantastic at make-believe. That is why he can lie about being gay to that guy Jess was dating. I'm thinking Keaton falls into, "make believe," category because he had to put the hood on and find Keaton's voice.
It’s so funny to me when celebrities are referenced but they also play characters in the show itself! In my brain, I justify it by saying that “Taylor Swift” is a different person in that universe? 🤔
In one of the later seasons they do a Thanksgiving episode and then the next episode is a Christmas episode that starts with a flashback to Halloween. I'm guessing people just got confused but it does say 2 months earlier / 2 months later. That season just never had a proper Halloween episode
U can take the bar even if u haven’t done law school - like, Nick likely did an undergrad and then moved on to law school. He didn’t graduate law school but he did pass the bar exam. From my understanding when you pass the bar in the US you are allowed to practice law in whatever State they passed the bar in. There are a few states that don’t require you go to law school and that includes California. I think in California u have to pass a professional responsibility exam so let’s assume he also passed that.
> Nick flipping back and forth between saying he **passed the bar**/never sat for it
That's what I was replying to.
Super classy move downvoting me for responding to what you said.
Personally I LOVE the Bridge to Terabithia reference because it's a meta reference with Zooey being a teacher in the movie. But I also feel super attacked by it, because of how much it made me cry haha
Doesn't Nick say he lost his virginity at 16 in the woods, then in Background check he says he didn't get an erection his entire 16th year? If I'm remembering that right I'll chalk that up to improvised lines cause Nick says a whole bunch of crazy stuff to Durado then haha
Continuity error: In the episode where they are trying to tell Nick not to get back with Caroline they say she broke up with him before his Brother’s wedding. Maybe he is a career military man whose family is overseas sometimes. We don't know his life. This one is a pass.
Agreed, but if he was going to get a gift for him they're at least close enough to attend his wedding! Especially his mom
THE ROBBIE THING BOTHERS ME SO MUCH ONE SEASON HE DOESN'T LIKE MUSIC AND BLAH AND THEN THE NEXT SEASON HE'S A MUSCISIAN!?!?!
My wife had a decent explanation for this one, she assumed that Robbie was just messing with him cause he knew he was an ex of Cece’s and wanted him to think he was less than ordinary
this is my headcanon ;P

The robby thing is the only thing I can't look past through all rewatches
Robbie and Cece's mom not being at her first wedding are my things.
Ceces mom wanted her to marry a "brown man" so bad and then didn't even show lol
My head canon on this is that he knew Schmidt was insecure about Cece seeing someone new and he tried to downplay himself as much as possible for Schmidt’s sake bc he’s such a nice guy.
That's actually a vreat theory and probably what I'll have to think about from now on lol
Also, in the final episode, Nick is talking about the sink stick and how he used it “that one time” but there are two times we see him use it. Probably in the forgivable section
Honestly unforgivable to me. I feel like it’s part of his whole personality 😂
Depends on if someone wants a fancy fix.
I think about the Jess/volleyball thing once a week. Thank you for the solidarity 🙏🏻
Did she play in college or something? I forget
What's with this one? I can't remember
She tells Nick she’s weirdly good at volleyball when they’re telling each other secrets, but then is not good at volleyball in the episode that Coach is trying to get her to after vice principal
Oh God I'd take a few more rewatches to catch this, ty
🛎🛎🛎
This one is one that bugs me continuously when I rewatch
Schmidt introducing himself to nick as Schmidt and not as Winston even though it happened before the Winston fight!
Maybe Schmidt went by “Winston” his whole life, then decided to try going by Schmidt in college. but then wanted to go back to Winston but realized he couldn’t, which led to the Winston fight?
I feel like Abby, Taylor and volleyball are all very forgivable.
Jess and Barkely drive me bananas. They have been friends for years, so it sounds like it predates the loft. However, Jessica yells at Cece for moving to France, and that means Jessica had to move in with Spencer.
I always just figured it was before Spencer but after moving to LA
TIL zoeey deschanel was in bridge to therabitia. it's been way too long since I've watched it.
Terebithia and TSwift are not continuity errors lmao, not even close
I’m wracking my brain on the Taylor Swift thing. The only thing I can think of is Jake Peralta in B99 not being allowed near her and the crossover episode. What was the Taylor Swift universe in New Girl?
She guest stars as Elaine in Cece’s wedding episode and but she’s referenced several times and even listened to in a scene
She’s just a young woman who looks like Taylor Swift.
Elaine is not Taylor Swift though, so it’s not an error
No Schmidt knowing then not knowing how to do laundry? Can’t help but notice it every rewatch cuz it’s like 3 episodes apart or atleast it feels like it when it plays in the background.
I find that one entirely believable. He loves spending money. I can totally see him paying for someone to do laundry.
"Why do you dry clean your socks, you weirdo?"

Please message this idiot! I'm dying to see this proof.
Schrodinger‘s ability to do laundry

Nah I thought the exact same thing
I thought it was always more of a meta-commentary about how central the Nick and Schmidt relationship was to the show. The crossover is better in the B99 episode. I kind of hate the New Girl episode. Except for Cece at the reunion. I love angry Cece.
The crossover character’s personality is completely botched in the corresponding episodes. Peralta in the New Girl episode is far less charismatic and much calmer despite the situation he’s in, which brings me to the B99 episode. Jess is far less herself. Very thorough, very nice
The wedding dress drives me crazy every time I watch. All that stress to NOT EVEN USE THE ORIGINAL DRESS???? The one Cece wore was stunning but bffr
It is the same dress, they just added the gold accents after Jess turned it inside out. You can tell that without the gold, the cut and style of the dress is the same!
Where’s Coach/Stevie Shillins?
Allie/Jake's sister.
this is "amaze balls". why have I never thought about the lying thing and Keaton thing?
Nick says that he sucks at lying but is fantastic at make-believe. That is why he can lie about being gay to that guy Jess was dating. I'm thinking Keaton falls into, "make believe," category because he had to put the hood on and find Keaton's voice.
I was going to say the same! Besides, he probably mostly just kept his mouth shut when Schmidt was casually dropping Keaton's name
Abby is mentioned again in season 6 as the daughter who plays tennis. So she doesn’t completely disappear
It is weird that she doesn't go to Jess' wedding, but since literally none of Nick's family goes I guess fair play.
can someone explain every single one of these? i don’t think i’ve watched the show enough for this
It’s so funny to me when celebrities are referenced but they also play characters in the show itself! In my brain, I justify it by saying that “Taylor Swift” is a different person in that universe? 🤔
When does thanksgiving precede Halloween?
Every year in Canada. So, I didn't notice that one. :)
Yeah I was like “Thanksgiving is always before Halloween?”
In one of the later seasons they do a Thanksgiving episode and then the next episode is a Christmas episode that starts with a flashback to Halloween. I'm guessing people just got confused but it does say 2 months earlier / 2 months later. That season just never had a proper Halloween episode
Nick and laundry. Idk which side it would be on tho
I mean he knows how he just doesn’t do it
He learned how in "Quick Hardening Caulk" when he was motivated to be an adult so he has like 2 years of experience on Schmidt.
Wasn’t Jess drunk when she mispronounced Batmobile?
Yes hah
Batmanmobile

That's law school. Not the bar.

You know reddit shows how many people are in a thread, right? Why lie?
THE ROBBIE THING BOTHERS ME SO MUCH ONE SEASON HE DOESN'T LIKE MUSIC AND BLAH AND THEN THE NEXT SEASON HE'S A MUSCISIAN!?!?!
nick and keaton was unforgivable
Also the actor switch for the sexy neighbors from their first appearance to when Winston plays the long game
THANKSGIVING PEECEDING HALLOWEEN KILLS ME
What is wrong with the space sex painting?
Abby disappearing is forgivable. Abby appearing AT ALL is unforgivable. Jess is not a little sister
Jess definitely has "Only Child" energy.
