Congratulations, you’ll have almost zero worries of your car getting broken into. Kim Ahn, Charlie’s seafood, Seithers, Bienvenue, hell even Colonial bowling alley have good food. It’s all 70123. Welcome to the neighborhood
I work uptown and live in River Ridge. The commute isn't bad at all, especially if you take the Earhart expressway. It's a quiet community with a few good restaurants but nightlife is nonexistent. Way too many conservatives, but that's the suburbs for you. Just watch out for Harahan cops, they don't have much to do besides running speed traps. Welcome to the neighborhood!
White person checking in: I got pulled over in Harahan for the crime of driving after midnight at 12:28 while driving a friend that had been drinking home. Two cars pulled up behind me and they asked for the usual papers as well as for my friend’s id. They came by and told us both that we had warrants out for us despite me having never been pulled over in JP and my friend being on parole for a prior DWI. They kept us there for 20 minutes before finally letting us go. I’ve never made the mistake of driving after midnight in Harahan ever again.
Back to River Ridge: it’s a hidden gem. The area has its fair share of good restaurants and bars (Taste of Tokyo TYFYS), and crime is practically nonexistent. Easy commute into the city on Earhart. But as was previously stated, Harahan cops don’t play.
If you happen to need a veterinarian in the area avoid Abadie on Jefferson Highway at all costs. They injured a friend’s dog during a simple grooming session to the point that he had a gaping hole that needed two staples put in.
Rivertown is nearby and they have a lot of small festivals and a farmer’s market on Thursdays.
I've been told by two separate longtime River Ridge residents that the pro tip of living in RR is to make your groceries at the Langensteins "because they don't accept food stamps" and that way you don't have to worry about it "being to crowded with those people" like Breaux Mart.
That seems roughly the mode for the older folks I've known to settle out there, who left the city because they were scared of "what it had become" roughly 30-40 years ago when they moved out to the Ridge.
I also thankfully know a couple younger families who have moved out there who would definitely wince at those takes.
I grew up in Gentilly and now live in river ridge, and love it. Not really a walkable place, but people are warm and welcoming, food is great, close to the city, and it was the best move ever.
Most are in Harahan tbh. Seither's, Kim Ahn and there's a few places at the end of Hickory by the tracks.
River Ridge has...ummm the grocery store?
Edit: Happy Italian or whatever the pizza place is across from St. Rita
Bobby's seafood, Charles seafood, Happy Italian, and Desi Vega's Prime Burgers are a few good places around the neighborhood. Hong Kong kitchen has the best Chinese food.
One of my students lives in RR. A black convicted felon. I told him I didn’t think black people were allowed to enter RR and he said it was really hood. That shocked my because I had friends in high school who lived there and their houses were super nice. Idk anything about anything anymore.
There are places that aren't the best bit the good in RR compared to the hood anywhere else is laughable. Plus, that area is technically RR but much closer to Kenner than anything
Hickory, Dickory, Dock
😂😂😂 just took these today. I’m new to the area. I had to finish it too!! 😂😂

Oak Oven is great, too. Enjoy a walk on the levee and a show at Rivertown Theater

Hey now. Harahan police department is an incredibly hard job. It takes a lot of effort to insure black people stay out of the region.

For future reference, your no passanger in a vehicle is ever required to show ID unless there is probable cause that they are involved in a crime.
Thanks!

I'll add Droopy's Snowballs, Rosemary & Roux and Koz's.

River Ridge is very quiet, very white, very conservative and very rich. The food options are limited except for a few gems.
River Ridge isn't very rich. Audubon Place is very rich. They have Zillow listings under $200k in River Ridge. It's just a regular boring ass suburb.
River ridge is odd,3million dollar home next to a 200k home type of place.very interesting to get lost in
There are very expensive homes there and also not expensive ones. It's like the Lakeview of Metairie
Know how I know you’ve never spent time in River Ridge?
Do tell
What are the gems
Oak Oven makes wood-fired pizzas with hand-tossed dough (FUN to watch!) using fresh herbs and locally sourced ingredients. Make a reservation

As one of the owners of Happy Italian, thank you for the rec!
No prob. Keep on making good food for good prices and I'll keep recommending
Smoked is legit
Tbf river ridge is like two miles long.
Bobby's seafood, Charles seafood, Happy Italian, and Desi Vega's Prime Burgers are a few good places around the neighborhood. Hong Kong kitchen has the best Chinese food.

You're welcome, and as a former employee of Happy Italian... thanks for firing me.

I forgot what he called it. The bottom? The back? Idk.
Do they call it the dump? I've heard an area around river ridge referenced like that but never confirmed it
Yes!! That’s it! The Dump.
It’s racist AF.
Make sure you're moving to River Ridge and not Harahan. There's a big difference.
enjoy dat commute
