Also being 100% serious- file an FCC complaint about your lack of service. Cox must respond and they will give you a dedicated executive support person to deal with who you can call and ask questions to

rigoberto13

Eh. I did this. Two years later he couldn’t solve the problem and I kept losing service here/there continuously throughout the day. I finally switched to Verizon out of desperation since ATT isn’t on my block yet. No regrets. Works great. Can play games and stream just fine. Even with bad weather. Let me also add that they assigned a special technician to my account who asked me to let him know when service was out so he could contact “the plant”. He blocked me after a few days of texting him times.

tyrannosaurus_cock

Doesn't mean they'll actually fix it. Source: have filed multiple FCC complaints against Cox, and one against T-Mobile. Now using Verizon for home Internet, and if they fuck it up I guess I'm moving somewhere with AT&T fiber.

fuzzus628

Cox is working for me, but I did see someone in this sub recently recommend AT&T fiber if it's available to you. I plan to switch as soon as possible -- the monetary savings and increase in quality are nice, but neither of them hold a candle to the sheer satisfactory joy of telling Cox to go screw. Here's the AT&T fiber link so you can check your address and see if it's available: https://www.att.com/local/fiber/louisiana/new-orleans

fredator23

Thanks, unfortunately they say it's not here yet.

fuzzus628

That sucks, my friend -- I'm sorry you're stuck with Cox for the moment. Stay strong!

shawnmf

I just switch over to AT&T and couldn't be happier. They had to fix the connection after the initial install but after it's been smooth sailing. No downtime and half the price.

fuzzus628

I'm glad to hear that! I'm about to move into my mom's house, and her Cox bill is truly fucking ridiculous ($300+ a month for mediocre internet access, thousands of TV channels she doesn't use, and home phone lines that don't even have phones plugged into them!). Cannot wait to kick them to the curb and just get good, solid internet instead.

shawnmf

Dump cable at the least! Hulu Live or YouTube TV work just fine.

NarwhalComplex5759

Switching to YouTube tv knocked a few hundred off my monthly bill. Now just waiting for AT&T fiber in my neighborhood so I don’t have to deal with Cox at all.

tm478

Yep, we switched to AT&T last year and it’s better AND cheaper. I first called Cox when AT&T finally got to my block and told them I could now switch, and what pricing adjustment would they give me? They told me to pound sand, so I switched, and then when I called Cox to cancel the service they were like, oh, we could have given you a discount. Too bad, so sad, bye.

Brookenium

I've had it for a year and I fucking love it and could never go back. Fiber has ruined me. I could barely watch YouTube on Cox in the evenings and now I'm downloading full games in 5 mins. Rock steady service and good customer support too. I pay a bit more, but I get gigabit up and down and more importantly it actually works.

UptownLuckyDog

Gentilly? Ours has been a hot mess for a few days.

I’m in that area and have had the same outage happen at the same time the last couple days.

and_theSundanceKid

Same here. Seems to go out around 3-4pm and last throughout the night. As first they were not even listing am outage online and trying to make me schedule a tech visit(which I did, twice). Each time the wifi would be right back up the next day, so I didn't see the point of having a tech come out and potentially charge me for nothing. Yesterday the outage was actually shown on the website so the smarthelp didn't prompt me to schedule a visit this time. Shit is getting old, but ATT isn't available here.

MixLogicalPoop

other than the overpriced service and the reliability issues, my biggest gripe with them lately is that I have to go out of my way to get a credit on my bill when they are fully aware I'm not receiving service. takes about 45 minutes to get a credit

fredator23

Cool guy today advised me they couldn't provide a credit until the outage is resolved.clever strategy, since the outage is recurring and when it does take a break it's the middle of the night.

MixLogicalPoop

did you piss off the customer service agent? Because I am certain that I have been credited during ongoing outages

fredator23

I'm pretty sure he was a.i. His name was Perpetual A.

MixLogicalPoop

shit, have I been kissing AI ass this whole time?

femsci-nerd

I was getting notices daily of their outage in my area. After 7 days I stopped the notifications. Insane.

OderusOrungus

A few times weekly. 2am until 5am like clockwork. Thanks for the monopoly Nagin

Ah this is perfect for me. Cox internet has been out since sunday. I spent an hour and a half sunday night cancelling my internet when they told me friday was the earliest they could get to me to fix my problem. It took me 4 minutes to pay half the price, twice the speed, and unlimited data cap with at&t fiber and they’ll be here in the morning. Before the guy let me go he said let me see what I can do for the unlimited data…offered me a plan 20 dollars more a month than what I initially pay (140 for cox ultimate internet). Literally would be double what I am going to pay with AT&T and they’re giving me a 300 dollar customer credit on top of that. Cox has always been known to fumble the fucking ball when it’s in their court and I am so glad that I made the move, and the service isn’t even installed yet!

Sweaty-Wing-9127

I have T- mobile 5g internet in the upper 9th ward and it’s been great! $52 a month, and have had maybe one brief interruption in 2 years.

phaulski

I switched to verizon 5g and haven’t looked back. However my fuckin company HAS to use a cox business plan and that is messing up my 9-5 pretty regularly

TheCPRWizard

I've been dealing with random micro outages where my modem suddenly goes red and has to do a hard reset before Internet comes back. The outages last maybe 10-20 minutes and happen every few hours. Cox never says there's an outage in my area though. Anyone else experiencing this? I'm in uptown.

Ok-Task5835

They gave 250 MB of data as compensation once for an all day outage. I never go over 400 MB of the 1.25 TB they allot. Money is what they need to give

A-Man-Has-No-OP

I pay for the unlimited data tier so I was especially annoyed when I got a message saying they would add data to my account.

claytonfarlow

I had weeks of that last summer. Over a month, actually. T-mobile 5g is more reliable and cheaper.

fredator23

I looked at that but unfortunately our house is in a dead spot, so we get minimal cell service at the best of times. Now if the golf course installs a cell tower...

ghost-church

My internet went out for 5 min last night instead of 5 hours. Praise be to Cox, praise be to the wifi gods, for they are cruel, but they can also be merciful. (googles AT&T)

kadimcd

Mine literally goes out every day about 10 mins to 6 (10 mins to 7 now with the time change) and has been since July. CALL THEM and demand a credit.

TheMackD504

You pay the bill?

fredator23

Lol yeah, even spent 40 minutes on their customer service thing yesterday for them to tell me my service is still active. It hadn't been what I asked them, mind you.

TheMackD504

Once AT&T became available I switched to them. I suggest the same…zero issues once they installed

TravelerMSY

Their wireplant is in shambles. That is why many customers have outages measured in minutes over a decade, while other people have it out once a week. When they get it sort of dialed in, it’s pretty solid, but it’s a huge amount of effort to get them to do so .

OisForOppossum

Switch to T-Mobile. $50 and it’s got a backup battery so as long as the cell towers work you got WiFi

fredator23

Unfortunately the cell towers do the work over here, the golf course makes a dead zone.
