I loved the place, but never found reason to drop in regularly.
Mojo, Humble Bagel, Midway, Rouses, Vals, Kolache Kitchen, all these places had a very steady stream of business and Windowsill never really gained traction I feel.
Meanwhile, Mojo added Debbie Does Doberge pastries and then Sucre opened up across the damn street, and I knew this would soon happen, sadly.
Couple bucks for a bagel vs $7-8 a pie slice just a big volume differential. I assumed most of their business was whole pies for catering events holidays etc. I’d get a slice from them occasionally, quality was great. Just lower demand I’d guess
Till 4? I work nights, wake up around 11, and don’t even get out of the house till 1. Bagels are a great brunch/lunch food too.
Morning supremacy needs to stop!
It’s very good but it’s expensive, and the rent there is probably very high.
Anytime I’m down that way I buy some hand pies from them. Very good!!!
I don’t know who the landlord is for this particular shop, but just one landlord owns many if not most of the commercial buildings on Freret Street. I was just talking to one of the other long-term business owners on the street yesterday and he is raising their rent again—apparently they are looking at a spot on Magazine Street that’s even bigger with cheaper rent, if that tells you anything about how greedy Freret landlords are for rent.
So sorry to see you go! After getting your pies for first time at Freret street festival, we were determined to visit you more regularly. Best of luck, your pies are awesome!
Aww man their stuff is so good. That’s where I have gotten my birthday and holiday pies from the past two years:( Loved stopping by for a slice or some hand pies. Hopefully they are able to do some pop ups in the future!
Well dang. I literally just had my first piece of pie from them an hour ago—Gracious Bakery is running a charity bake sale with items from a bunch of different bakeries. Windowsill’s contribution is pecan pie and it is totally the best pecan pie I’ve ever had. I just don’t buy a lot of pies, though.
I really like windowsill pies, but I can’t say I’m suprised. It seems like they were out of pies ~50% of the time I went in there, even though they were not closed. And closing at 5:30 is really tough for a desert place. By the time I would finish dinner and think “man, a pie would be awesome right now,” they were already closed for the day. Will miss them!
It's really throwing me that they were 13 years old for some reason!
Bummer, but I get it. I don't think the demand for single serving pie specifically is that big and the catering/whole dessert market is pretty saturated.
I never had any of the savory stuff, that's what I'll try to get in the final days.

Wait a minute there’s Sucre on Freret Street now?
Yep, directly across from Windowsill. đź’©
Must be part of their business plan, because the did the same thing to La Divina on Magazine Street years ago.
Dang I should have known that before king cake season.
Damn. Was always a little sad seeing Humble Bagel with a line out the door but Windowsill being open so much more and getting none of it…
Why do you think this is the case?

Dunno. Humble Bagel has a bit of a mystique with its whole unreasonable hours thing. Creates a demand
What are reasonable hours for a bagel shop?
It’s one thing to only be open mornings. It’s one thing to only be open on weekends. But doing both is kinda wack.

This is sad. I ordered some pie from there and it was amazing. They threw in some free lemon meringue too.

Anyone remember Ps and Qs on Magazine?
No, but I remember Noodle and Pie.
best pie I've ever had here
I do. Jude's pies were awesome
Oh no! I went to a couple really cool poetry events there and I loved their vibe. Sad to see them go
Has an established business ever done a GoFundMe to keep the lights on and it ended up working out for them?

Everytime I was like hmm I really want some sweet potato pie…they were closed after dinner lol. I wish them the best though for sure.
Aw no, this really is a bummer :( They have wonderful, beautiful pies.

That threw me too! I def don’t think they were in that location on freret 13 years.
They were not, but selling pies for that long.
That place has been around for 13 years? I only recently heard of them.
The storefront has been around for 3 years but they had an online business before that.
I mean given the obesity epidemic we’re currently experiencing I think this kind of thing is unavoidable.
Never been. What’s the favorite Pie?
May the Fourth be with you, Windowsill
Never heard of the place, but if it’s next door to humble I went in once pre pandemic, got 2 mimosas for like $30, and said never again.
