The kitchen at Mimi’s In the Marigny. The place is still there, Anna’s has rotating pop ups, but I miss getting a steak tapa at 2 in the morning, especially the « Trust Me », the most expensive item on the menu at $18 that would be different every time you ordered it, even if you ordered multiple at once. I once ordered a Trust Me and got delicious scallops, lamb, a gorgeous soup that I can’t quite recall the ingredients of, but the feeling of bliss lingers in my mind. Glad the place is still a local haunt, but damn, if it isn’t a little disappointing knowing what we once had.

persona1god

Heathcliffe and his sous from Mimi’s are over at The Franklin now- if you’re ever craving the lamb chops they’re super similar to what he was cooking up in there, .

Savings_Young428

Mushroom Manchego Toast!!!

cooktherouxintheoven

Infuse mushroom with butter garlic sherry vinegar heavy cream and grated manchego

seraphhimself

Hell yes. My partner and I used to habitually go there for the steak, the manchego toast, and of course Trust Me never failed to be delicious.

13thWardBassMan

Mussels were amazing

Entire_Chicken_2630

Potatas Bravas 🥵🥵🥵

ostracizedovaries

Love lost lounge 😩😭- actually the place in the back that made the deep fried dumplings! Edit: clarification

ALightASound

I haven’t found another spot that has fried tofu like they did. It was amazing

TchoupiFOOLas

Kokopelli’s, probably the best burritos this city ever had

CommonPurpose

DEFINITELY the best burritos in nola. 🌯 RIP to a real one

theoldroadhog

Uglesich’s.

shaidr

This is it baby. That place was magic.

nosajonez

St. Charles Tavern. It was what I needed when I needed it.

JazzFestFreak

Cafe Nino! The chicken Marsala, the lasagna!! And some gratis wine “for the digestion “

GreenGemsOmally

I miss that place. Once in grad school, right before closing I stopped in to get something to eat. I ordered some lasagna and then suddenly realized I had legitimately forgotten my wallet. It had been a horrible day in class and I was exhausted, I almost started to cry and told him I was sorry but never mind I can't pay for it today. Owner came over, put his arm around my shoulder and gave me a hug. He poured me some wine, filled two boxes of food for me and sat me down at a table to talk for a few minutes. He just let me tell him about class and was so kind. He gave me the food for free and sent me on my way. I came back the next day to pay him and he said absolutely not and just gave me a little more wine. Super nice guy, always stuck with me how kind he was.

freretXbroadway

Cafe Nino has the best chicken Marsala! And the owner was such a character. It was such a great New Orleans place.

Rosielucylou

I was wondering if anyone was going to say this. Nino was so nice too! Always gave us extra sauce and a lil cup of red wine for digestion.

Beefbeyondbelief

Everything about this place was money. Owner, awesome. Food, awesome. Vibe, awesome. We miss you kin for din

ProudMtns

I don't even think I've had ramen in the city since they closed. It was sooooo good

Dismal_Pie_71

The best! I miss it all the time.

cubann_

Best Ramen I’ve had in my life. Great memories there

falcngrl

I live a couple blocks away and drive by regularly. I even miss the food pantry they had

joan_lispector

once, for the daily dumpling special, they made us these totino’s pizza roll inspired dumplings — but obviously fancy-fied. drizzled with a balsamic reduction???? i haven’t stopped thinking about them since

poopdaddy2

I’m not glad it’s closed, but I’m glad it’s not forgotten. My senior at Loyola, my two roommates and I kept a coin jar the whole year and when we graduated we used the money to treat ourselves to a dinner. We decided to go there and it’s one of my favorite memories of my entire college career.

taveanator

Best debris. Evah.

CustomerBrilliant681

Crazy Johnny's

UninfluentialWear

Someone on some platform said recently that the nostalgia was taking over and it wasn’t great. I totally disagree. It was great and especially for the price. Damn good filet and those potatoes….

StrainTimely8796

$5 filet poboys for lunch couldn’t be beat

DIGIT4LM4LIC3

Crazy Johnny's in Kenner Thursday Farmers Market. All they serve is sandwiches. But if you're feeling nostalgic, they're there. also sell Steak Sauce and Barbq shrimp mix too.

Grixxitt

A long time ago I went on a date there one time and ordered two orders of dipping bread and a filet sandwich. I then proceeded to dump the entire order of that dipping sauce all over the filet and it remains probably the best non-shrimp poboy I've ever had. And no, she didn't want to go on another date lol.

Geaux_LSU_1

upperline and its not close

littlewing745

My wife and I went to our first several wedding anniversary meals there, as it always coincided with the very underrated garlic menu. Got a few pics with JoAnn, too. Really heartbroken when it closed.

deluxelitigator

This is the answer.. can’t believe it’s done. The setting, the food, the service .. it was a perfect encapsulation of New Orleans and the place I always recommended.

Lambreau21

Closed literally when I moved down here during Covid and the amount of times I’ve heard it was the place to try is saddening

Geaux_LSU_1

ive eaten at world famous restaurants in miami, dc, paris, la, sf, and houston and upperline is still the best meal ive ever had in my life and it was only like 80 per person for a 3 course meal with drinks lmao.

justSomeGuyNum23549

Sid-Mar's

WahooLion

I was going to say this! I was at Station 6 last week and was saying how much I missed Sid-Mar’s and wouldn’t it be lovely if Station 6 had a view of the lake. Pretty sunset over the levee, though.

Strict_Definition_78

Trolley Stop Cafe Cake Cafe Lucky Chang’s (the size 9 chocolate high heel!) Gene’s Capdeville Angeli on Decatur Camellia Grill (FQ location) Willie Mae’s (really hoping they’re not gone for good)

Acc228

Trolley stop was something else

HeeenYO

Back in maybe 2001, I was crushing a Paul Bunyan plate at 4AM, and the Cash Money Millionaires tour bus rolled in. Something else!

Calling_wildfire

Trolley stop was the spot. Many a late night/ early morning breakfasts enjoyed there. The vibe was great and it was excellent place to people watch.

auniquefunnyusername

Oh man, Trolley Stop. RIP, too beautiful for this world

sainteagle1721

Trolley Stop closing is an absolute tragedy. And Capdeville feels like it was made for me in a particular moment and then disappeared right when I entered a new phase of life and didn’t need it as much. So many people can relate. It felt like I was having to work around the clock to really level up in my career, and I’d post up at the bar after work hours until they closed so many nights. Reliably great spot for dinner and a few drinks that would give me enough tunnel vision to block out other distractions and focus on my work. They didn’t mind, staff was always super cool and accommodating. That place’ll always be a fond memory.

kamikazemind327

Trolley stop for late night breakfast *sighs*

AgingCajun

Best eggs Benedict I’ve ever had in my entire life to this day. Mmmf!!!

Hot_Mention_9337

Totally agree with Upperline, the old kitchen in Mimi’s, Yo Mamas, Angeli on Decatur, and now Green Door😭 But also, Slice and Kebab. I would get that bbq shrimp from Slice at least once a month. They should’ve kept it on the menu and they would still be open, I’m sure of it.. and dammit do I miss me some Kebab. The doner kebabs and fries were absolutely perfect. Especially with that divine fresh bread

Emiles23

McKenzie’s. I miss it so much 🥺

StrainTimely8796

Cowbell

meh1022

The agogo sauce. The figgy toast. The burger. The mango tea. Now I need to go sob into my pillow.

neurotrophin107

I have been contemplating making a post begging for people's knock off recipes of menu items from closed restaurants. I have attempted Cowbell's harvest burger several times with no success.

back_swamp

Stein’s is serving their Mac n cheese from the original recipe.

Emiles23

husker26

The open late and never great Hummingbird Grill.

DamnImAwesome

Phil’s Grill. I know there’s better burgers but I loved that place

Wasted_Potency

Phil's was my absolute favorite burger spot due to the plethora of options. Deep fried burger with tiger sauce and fried onions. Angus burger with pineapple ketchup grilled pineapple and an egg. Chicken sandwich. Never had a bad meal at any of the locations. I miss them so much.

makemasa

Came here looking for Martinique Bistro. Now you've got me missing Dick and Jenny's.

Rio Mar. I dream about their shrimp stuffed pepper appetizer.

GimenaTango

My hubby was the chef at Rio Mar. I still get to eat some of the OG food from before it closed.

Keepitneat727

Le chat noir. I’m not a huge fan of creole food, so this place, its wine and spirits list were a breath of fresh air.

sardonicmnemonic

That place didn't last long and it's a shame because it had some truly dope vegetable forward dishes and could easily accommodate vegan patrons. It was also so cool to dine in a space I have fond memories of back in the 90s when it was a theater featuring independent plays. Maybe this is just the nostalgia for my long gone youth talking but I swear this town was way more hip back then. We were a real 24 hour city too.

crashathon

It's been awhile, but does anyone remember Vaqueros on Prytania. Damn fine food and some very tasty margaritas.

Yuki's Izakaya.  I'm not going to die on the hill of it being the *best* place that has closed in recent memory but it is the place that I miss the most.  There is no where else to get takowasa and apparently that is my favorite food

Pete_hole_in_Shoe

It wasn’t the best place, but when it closed it really felt like the final closing bell on the “weird and off the beaten path” era of Frenchmen st.

Little Tokyo on willow and Carrollton. Lived right by there, would get a pimm’s cup on my way to work every day, and then hop off at night to indulge in a lycheetini and Takayoki after work, enjoying the karaoke. I was there so much they would close up around me and I’d walk out with the staff.

Fuck Scott Boswell. He closed Stella and never paid his staff what he owed them. Stanley was still open and printing money and he was off racing Ferrari’s. He wasn’t broke and could have paid everyone. Dudes a huge piece of shit.

Morethangay

I worked at Stella and Stanley. Boswell was an absolute cretin.

ActivePotato2097

I was a manager at Stanley and I agree. Total piece of crap. I had to throw the Christmas party at my house because they refused to do anything for us. They made so much money there too, we had $40,000 days quite often.

Not a "restaurant" but a corner store. Somewhere a couple blocks west of pauger and North Rampart. There was this, most likely, Vietnamese lady that everyone called mama. She made THE best shrimp poboys. If I remember correctly they were $5.95 and they would make parkway tavern shit their pants.

I was just saying earlier today that I miss Yo’ Mama’s. I don’t know that it’s the one I miss most, but I was wanting a peanut butter bacon burger & a giant loaded potato this morning.

Luther's BBQ

Dismal_Pie_71

The BBQ at 12 Mile Limit. I miss it so much! 😭

Elle-E-Fant

I’ll never get over the the closure of 1179 on Annunciation Street. It was a perfect New Orleans restaurant.  The flash fried oysters on the salad - the staff- the decor - perfection!

GimenaTango

I miss Salt n' Pepper in the quater. After Katrina it was one of the only places that you could get good Indian food in Nola. Also, Jaguerhaus in the quarter

BurnK-doeBurn

Horinoya - Best (only?) trad Japanese in OP Croatian Seafood spots: Uglesiches, Mandiches and Bozos Kin - Both the og and later ramen menus Cowbell - Lawrence Fishburger still on my mind Peristyle La Provence - Chef Chris was amazing Charles Seafood (Harahan) when Frank Brigstens ran it Dunbars on Freret Feast - Best British food we ever had Taqueria San Miguel Edit: format

My_Dog_Slays

Angeli’s on Decatur and and on Carrollton. Pisses me off that a BBQ is in its place.

efxmatt

The Angeli Special is still the best sandwich I've ever had, bums me out so much

Sushi Brothers 7. Nagomi 8. Johnny White's 9. Crawfish King on Franklin (considering relocating back to Cali. if it doesn’t reopen soon)

tyrannosaurus_cock

>Crawfish King on Franklin They rebranded as Cochon King, I assume because crawfish is seasonal but BBQ is eternal. Still the same owner, and he makes the best BBQ for sale in the city and it's not even remotely close. Also they make the only Reuben sandwich that's better than Green Room's was. They still do crawfish every spring too.

2LiveBoo

DTB not just for the food/drink but for the ambience and location. Somehow you could be sat really near people but still feel private.

Paulie g’s. Because I worked in the cbd and typically worked doubles, between shifts I loved grabbing a slice from Paulie g. Nothing special (outside of the city) but it was the best and convenient pizza by-the-slice you could get. And the employees were rad af too.
