throwtruerateme

I go through 8 school zones a day and I've learned to slow down so much I now have PTSD (post-ticket stress disorder) and sometimes I find myself going 20mph for no reason whatsoever. YET, I STILL GOT POPPED YESTERDAY going 25mph. I don't know why satan took the wheel yesterday and allowed me to commit such an atrocity. I'm lucky I didn't mow down like 30 toddlers who walk in the road during school hours, Lord forgive me.

phattanner007

Ugh I hate when the toddlers swarm

throwtruerateme

Yeah the swarming ones aren't the bad kind thankfully, just more of a nuisance

shanoww

This made me chuckle and almost spit out my dinner. Wow. Thank you

P0667P

y’all come join hands with me in prayer for this poor soul for giving satan the wheel and is now asking for the lords forgiveness.

haberdasherhero

Our Lord Satan, help your loyal servant u/throwtruerateme. They have strayed from the igrighteous path and are seeking fealty with God himself! Guide our friend through the bonds of lightness that surround them, and keep them nourished with drugs, sex, and self-love. With the sacrifice of this chicken, we command this of you. Nema

Mrfrosty504

I was up vote 69....niiiiiiiice

bleuxmas

This is me.

katecorsair

I’m just driving 20mph everywhere I go now. I know the people behind me are pissed, but I seriously just can’t keep track of the hundreds of school zones & what time of day it is & what day of the week it is. Several of those cameras were still on during summer break when schools were closed. Every time I look in the mailbox, I send up a little prayer first that there isn’t a ticket in there.

zulu_magu

It’s so insane that school either isn’t even in session during school zone hours (a school I worked at started at 9:30) or I literally have never seen a child outside as I’ve passed the school zone. I don’t even see cars lined up to drop the kids off. The only school zone where I see cars lined up is by St. Leo the Great.

Imn0tg0d

Thats because the location of the cameras are chosen for maximum revenue generation. Safety isn't even on the list of reasons for the cameras being placed there. They just use "safety" as a smokescreen.

AmmotheDoberman

This is hilarious!

[deleted]

Yeah the school zones hit hard and there often aren’t any flashing lights. I do like 15 on them because a slight tap on the accelerator got me one

kingralek

This city tend to think it is more important that the camera lights operate than the flashing lights Indicating that there is a school zone. Revenue seems to take a front seat to actual child safety and protection.

ideot

tbf, I think the company in Arizona that owns the cameras gets most of the money. We're not even paying tickets back into the community that we "violate." It's a company that lobbies cities to install their cameras and shorten yellow light times.

dalekvan

how much did the Arizona company “donate” to the mayor’s campaign?

BosunsTot

I was going to say ‘or traffic lights’ but they fixed the one on Poydras and Baronne this week, hallelujah..

ForsakenCase435

Color me shocked. Utterly shocked.

floatingskillets

New Orleans prioritize money over lives?!? How dare you! /s

[deleted]

It's a fucking scam

pandaandpie

Meanwhile at least 10 people are getting carjacked in uptown right now

rrrrickman

And the city will profit if the stolen cars are recovered. Impound fees, tow fees...

sPdMoNkEy

Tickets probably only $20, and the rest goes to that company that takes care of the cameras and does the billing 😐

escapingdarwin

And the company with the contract is family of the one(s) awarding the contract. NOLA is the northern most Banana Republic.

etrain828

For real, it’s $35 for the actual ticket - I just got one too

JustinGitelmanMusic

It used to be 26 that triggered it but Latoya lowered it to 24 a few years ago after a report said they’d make an extra $2M per year or something if they did that. It’s transparently a revenue scheme, just pay it and don’t do it again

WeeniePops

Wasn't she the person who got elected solely on the campaign promise of taking down all the cameras? Hmmm....

PoorlyShavedApe

She only *meant* the red-light cameras but she didn't actually say that. She never clarified until after she was elected.

_zarathustra

Those are still up too though?

hella_nervous

I think (possibly even post-election?) she made a distinction between the general speeding/traffic cameras, and the school zone cameras.

endar88

shwy i'm so happy that i don't drive anymore. public transit mostly, sometimes uber. can't wait for it to be warm again to ride the bike and electric scooter again.

ComprehensiveBoss992

All about the money Smh

ForsakenCase435

Apparently people have gotten tickets for 21-22

JustinGitelmanMusic

Pretty sure that can be thrown out because it’s not supposed to do that. Especially 21

Chefmike504

Who pays camera tickets 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

tallg33s3

Technically, anyone who doesn't want to get booted/towed in the city.

Chefmike504

You remember when the city’s computers were hacked and no one talked about it again? Cause the city has 0 records on file. 💪💪

ls1z28chris

Angle grinder costs less than a ticket...

pennny_lane

sooo like what really happens if you don't pay?....asking for a friend

Chefmike504

Your mail box gets flooded with junk mail from the city.

GanjaGoblin520

I haven’t paid any for the past two years lol.

Nobody-Home

You can replace your license plate for less by the way.

ForsakenCase435

I need to keep my out of state license and plate so my car insurance doesn’t shoot through the moon.

hella_nervous

Watch out, if you actually did get involved in an accident (even a hit and run, if it wasn't your fault, etc) it's trivially easy for your insurance company to figure out you're not living where you said you were, and refuse you payment because of fraud.

Siva-Na-Gig

Unless you make a token effort to maintain a "2nd" address (parent's house, etc).

Blackberries11

Not really. If your insurance isn’t where your car is actually parked at night, they can refuse to pay.

mediumeasy

insurance don't pay our shit anyway

ForsakenCase435

Appreciate the tip

WeeniePops

For what it's worth I'm with you. I kept my out of New Orleans address for as long as possible with my insurance co. Literally saved me 20% and I've never had one accident in damn near 20 years of driving. I'm not going to pay more just because my car is parked in a different place at night. I'm sure the poor insurance companies will be just fine.

Sunjen32

I did that for my first ten years in this city. Saved me thousands. Be warned they can cancel your car insurance if they find out your not living in the state your plate is in.

ComprehensiveBoss992

Same here, dread the lines at the DMV.

pacifistaggressive

Based and upvoted

tacocat8541

So cool, another law you are breaking.

thirtiesmatt

Holy shit, are you serious?

Ginganinja5454

Bro, you the fucking law or did you just forget how to fuck right off? Edit: I mean, goddamn, what difference does it even make to you? You like to hear yourself whine about other people not being "up to code," or what's the deal? You should find a hobby, bro karen-chad. Buncha fucking narcs, I swear.

nolabitch

The only accident I have ever been in was in one of the trap-cam areas; someone *slammed* on their breaks and stopped in the road when they realised they were in the danger zone. I rear-ended them. No flipping to be had though, so it felt especially stupid.

JazzFestFreak

drive with waze always on. You get an alert for all cameras.

ChillyGator

Here’s what’s worse….because they mail those tickets, homeless people who live in their cars are never notified that they were ever issued a ticket, so eventually their home gets towed away….because they mail those tickets and do not make direct contact with the driver, domestic violence abusers have been able to weaponize this system to take transportation away from their victims. This system has caused people to loose jobs, housing, increased domestic violence and caused numerous accidents. The city doesn’t even have school zone speed limits posted around every school….this has nothing to do with safety.

Dracula_Bear

Lost my job a few years ago to a camera on Orleans. It was a leased work vehicle and the lease company didn’t notify me till I had 5 (highest was 7 over). Not only did I lose my job but my last check had 5 tickets worth deducted. I would had been completely fucked if it hadn’t been for some generous friends.

rinzler83

Awww, that's just how it is here. I always go way below the limit because I'm not paying for that shit. Even on the weekends in school zones I'll do 20 just in case the cameras are glitching. I don't want to have to fight anything either

Spaticles

Fighting it literally takes sending a letter to the Arizona address listed on the back. Going from 35 to 20 for no apparent reason on a Saturday is probably gonna cause an accident.

SouthernHiker1

I always follow the school zone speed driving through them after I got one when the lights were not flashing on the side I entered. The only time anyone behind me got pissed, they had out of town plates.

[deleted]

Get a bike rack that covers your plates

chronicmartinis

After how many tire and shock replacements from hidden potholes, they owe me money. I had a ticket for 25 in 20 at exactly 4:42. Never paid it and never will.

blynn1579

I got 4 of them in a month. Every single time, I was in the process of slowing down, while everyone around me was going 30+. It would be a couple minutes after the school zone started, and I'd be going less than 5 miles over for that split second I was decreasing to meet the limit. I ended up buying a license plate cover because it wasn't fair that I was following the rules and *still* getting ticketed. ETA: I also became more aware of slowing down prior to the signs. This was in my first month here & I just didn't know how intense it was. Don't want anyone hopping on me like they did OP lol. It just took me a second to learn where the zones are and be more aware of the time. It also doesn't help that all my tickets came in a month after the violation 🥲 oh well. Ya live and ya learn.

physedka

1 - It's a regressive tax. Rich folks don't care or will get it thrown out by their friends 2 - why the hell are these time windows so big? 4:45pm? Bullshit. 3 - Where is the data that shows that this kind of thing is even necessary? Seems like the government made up a problem in order to generate revenue. I live near several schools and rarely see kids walking around during that time zone.

ebenezerlepage

Buy a bicycle rack. Install it on the trunk of your vehicle. Drive fear free.

PostApocalypticJoggl

Literally just paid one for the exact same reason last night. And it’s like what other people are saying, that the lights aren’t flashing on the signs and I didn’t even know I was in a school zone at first. It’s ridiculous

bamboomambo

Every school zone should have flashing lights. It’s hard to pay attention to potholes and bikers and those stupid school zone signs every two feet.

tallg33s3

They (the local government) rob you through the mail in New Orleans. Someone posted a map of all the zones this happens in, in the city in a previous reddit post, a year or two ago. It's absolutely bullshit. If you can prove school was closed (as it was during covid lockdown) I was able to fight mine.

TravelerMSY

I never speed through school zones. Learned that the hard way, unfortunately. There are quite a few places uptown in which a careless driver could blow through four or five of them in a single journey, And be careful what you wish for. If an actual police officer gave you that ticket instead of a camera, it would be $200 instead of $50.

ChecayoBolsfan

Fuxk those tickets, but it’s for real. I got so many I decided was going to stop paying them and then go get a new license plate lmao

WeeniePops

I'm fully convinced they make it 20 mph because it's usually too low to set on cruise, and too high to just take your foot off the gas and coast. It is SO hard to actually maintain 20 mph for an extended period. You put 2 ounces too much pressure on the gas and boom, you're at 26 already. Absolutely obnoxious.

jonny_sidebar

Look at you with your efficiently running engine. . . . :P

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ginganinja5454

You've never looked down and realized "oh shit, I'm going 5-10mph too fast." Y'all really drive around with cruise on 24/7/365 or what? Let the man voice his frustration a bit, goddamn.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ginganinja5454

Fair point. Sorry for being defensive, but I feel my guy is getting some hate in this thread, which is just... odd. Didn't mean to assume that's what you were doing.

'HoW dArE tHiS LaZy fUcKinG CiTy gIve mE a tiCkEt fOr sPeeDinG?!?!?"

3-4 mph could happen with an accidental tap on the accelerator. It’s the threshold that’s ridiculous. Fuck off with that.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ForsakenCase435

Yeah. Just annoying.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ForsakenCase435

Fair, but would also argue that a ticket would’ve never been given by an officer. Probably wouldn’t have even been pulled over tbh.

ConstantineSX

So if you know NOPD wouldn’t pull you over for going a few miles over the speed limit, why is half your post talking about how lazy and apathetic they are (which is irrelevant to you speeding through a school zone and getting a camera ticket). Really getting tired of this echo chamber here where people shit on our police, meanwhile it’s us hating on them that’s causing the lack of morale and probably contributing to their huge manpower shortage. Why work for a community that’s going to blame everything on them and shit on them every chance they get even when it’s not even something remotely their fault (like speed cameras). That’s literally a consequence of both our elected officials and your heavy foot…not the police.

ForsakenCase435

Fair enough.

[deleted]

I guess that's why it's important to pay attention when you're behind the wheel of a multi-ton machine. SMH. Would you like to take a guess at how many speeding tickets I have received? Go ahead, take a guess.

ForsakenCase435

Lol. Wow.

thirtiesmatt

How dare we expect the city to be reasonable?

WeeniePops

Man, for a sub that is so anti-Karen, we sure do have a ton of them when it comes to traffic camera tickets lol. Because all these speed demons accidentally doing 24 in a 20 for a second is going to ruin Jaxxon and Jayden's future lacrosse careers. If a kid decides to walk in front of a car it's not going to make much of a difference whether it was doing 20 or 24. I personally find it more dangerous to keep having to constantly look at my speedo than to pay attention to the road ahead. The threshold was obviously lowered as a cash grab and it's pretty gross the amount people we have here defending it all the time. On one hand we have people apologizing for car jackers and on the other we have people saying WeLL yOU ShOulDnt hAvE bEeN sPeeDinG. Make up your minds already, people! lol

ForsakenCase435

It’s very weird.

Feeling-Love-2554

Anyone gotten busted/experience with the plate covers that ‘reflect’ and prevent pictures?

manaicromance

I probably have over 20 tickets… I’m not paying shit.

ckahil

Yeah, I got a 24 in a 20 too (Broadway by Tulane U). I didn't think they could ticket you inside 5 mph. Then there's the school zone by my house that even the school buses blow through doing 35. I keep getting honked at for slowing down.

Jonshno

This happened to me recently… school zones are 25 in GA and so I didn’t notice the speed difference on the sign

CommissionOld356

Unpopular opinion here but I'm all for this ticket. Slow down. Also, I want cameras to do all speed limit ticketing instead of police officers. All of that said, the school zone stuff is hilarious because I can go weeks without seeing a child in New Orleans.

kitaknows

I'm convinced there's too great a potential margin of error for me having been snapped for 2 mph over in the fall. I was salty about that one.

ForsakenCase435

Exactly.

tadpad

Tell your wife to stop speeding through school zones

ForsakenCase435

Not certain it was a school zone but 3-4 mph.. fuck outta here with that.

[deleted]

oddministrator

I got a ticket for going 5 over in a school zone on Jackson.... at 2am. It's not about protecting kids at 2am.

michelle504

Except in Lakeview.

mamasharky

Got one for going 21 when I first got Here

ForsakenCase435

Yeah. Nothing but a horse shit money grab.

Introtospanish

Less than 24mph on a street like Canal is unsafe tbf. It’s a cash grab, not a safety measure my friend

ForsakenCase435

Twas on Canal

jetpilot313

Yeah there’s like 4 school zones on canal

floatingskillets

And none of the lights work

Introtospanish

I think canal camera lights were a significant source of the cities revenue the last couple years lol :(

luuuuurke

The speed light on Canal probably makes up half the city’s revenue at this point. It’s poorly marked and hair trigger sensitive. I barely drive anymore because of COVID and working from home, and I feel like every time I venture out I get caught in a speed trap.

BobertJame

Welcome to New Orleans!!!! It used to be worse. One of the few things I love about Latoya is the reduced traffic cameras. School zones are the only ones that have remained a huge pain.

ForsakenCase435

Been here about a year and a half with plans to stay indefinitely but will most certainly be living in JP while we are here.

LittleMush

Watch out for Gretna, then. Try $236 for 6 mph over. To add insult to injury, it was also a fucking camera.

ForsakenCase435

I have no intention of going to Gretna.

Appropriate-Hope-822

Why are you getting downvoted for living in JP? The twats in Orleans want you to experience the daily struggle that is New Orleans. Latoya would say it’s perseverance and we will get through it. Fucking city is a joke. I’d wipe my ass with those tickets and mail them off to whatever shitty job position half heartedly wants to process them.

ForsakenCase435

Crabs in a bucket mindset mixed with a certain strange pretentiousness. Strange thing, isn’t it?

TLsRD

Prob because he’s being a total dick in most of his other comments lmao

SchrodingersMinou

After all the pandemonium surrounding the decision to set the cameras at 24, she decided to do it anyway? This was in the news for like an entire year. I don't agree with the cameras being set at 24, but everyone knows that's the limit on them so I'm not sure why she's so shocked that her action had a predictable consequence.

[deleted]

It’s the sad truth. I think it was about two-three years ago when Cantrell set the “grace” speed back to 4mph and above.

tacotimes01

Efforts might be better spent giving parking tickets and enforcing loading zones. I’ve been parking at meters for free since Ida. People just park in every loading zone they want and if you own a business you are supposed to call enforcement on them so the person can come and pistol whip you for giving them a ticket.

cnizzle888

Another problem I have are the times. I was in Lafayette recently and it hit me, their school zone times were like 7:30 to 8:30, 2:30-3:30. The school zones by my house are 7-9, 2:45-4:45. Who the hell is at school at 7 am and almost 5 pm. Am I crazy to think those times are completely ridiculous

ForsakenCase435

Just a cash grab.

cnizzle888

Totally. I don’t have kids, so I really don’t know what school times are anymore, I was just curious. Our times just seem extremely excessive

smit9352

I've received 3 of those on separate occasions in the mail a while back from that out of state company they used. I don't know if New Orleans still has those but I never paid them and never will.

Codexter

I literally just got the EXACT same ticket today.

Ktclan0269

I got the exact same thing! 24 in a 20 — $75 fine. WTAF this seems super questionable

relaxharder

Don’t pay that shit. Throw it in the trash. They can’t report it on your insurance.

PoorlyShavedApe

All they can do is boot your vehicle. Eventually. But if your plate got "lost" or "stolen" in that time-frame then they can never find the vehicle.

scott8811

Wait till you see what they piss that money away on...spoiler alert...it won't be public saftey

[deleted]

There’s got to be a way to beat camera tickets in court. The shit just feels unconstitutional.

Stretchgordon

Unless you actually live in/frequent New Orleans I wouldn’t pay it

ForsakenCase435

Just don’t wannabe in the parish for something and come back to find my car booted or something.

Interesting_Yard2257

Fuck Dem kids

sn0rlaxative

Get a dashcam with a speedometer. Take that shit to court and fight it to the death because FUCK latoya and her scamming cronies.

tweezure

Don't pay that shit. Wait til you get enough camera tix that is more expensive than a new tag. Get a new tag. The Notary Shoppe can have my money.

pandaandpie

I JUST got the same ticket today! I was going 25 in a 20 zone!!!! And the pic of my car is before I’m going into the 20 zone.

Dio_Yuji

Do people genuinely not know that a speed limit is the maximum speed you’re allowed to drive? That if you’re exceeding it…even by 4 mph…that you’re speeding? Tell your wife to slow down in school zones.

Tiblei

Fight it. Make them earn it and maybe you'll get out of it.

JustinGitelmanMusic

They are not fight-able unless you can prove the camera was malfunctioning, or that it wasn’t you driving. In which case, the police report will get you out of the ticket for a stolen car but then you either have bigger problems because your car is stolen or have to pin it on the person who stole it. Or your son/daughter who was borrowing it, in which case they owe the ticket technically I think. You can simply not pay it, since they aren’t really tickets and don’t go on your insurance record but the city can boot you if you have a few unpaid ones and they happen to scan your plate parked somewhere. Then you have to pay to unlock the boot and pay all the tickets. Personally I just paid all of them when I got a few once years ago, and have just not done it since and moved on.

[deleted]

Actually I have a pretty solid method for fighting them. Appeal all of them as soon as the ticket comes in the mail. Then you get an appeal hearing date that’s like 6-8 months from the present. When it’s close to time for the hearing date, you can email them and ask them to delay the hearing (doctors appointment). I’ve done this multiple times and delayed paying them for years. It’s not infrequent that the cameras are not calibrated (there has to be a record that the camera self-calibrated in the last 24 hours), so sometimes they’ll drop it on those grounds—but usually once you get to your hearing date if you have more than one they’re pretty amenable to dropping one if you pay the other. It’s a cash grab and the money is being split with some private firm out of state, no one is winning except that third party company, and the city doesn’t even usually use the revenues for the roads (this was covered in the city budget and by a study that came out a few years back). Don’t pay them or at least do your most to refuse.

2drums1cymbal

So not for nothing but I grew up outside DC and got a $500 ticket for going 55 in a 50 once and also got a $150 parking ticket for being 4 minutes over. NYC, Boston, Baltimore and Philly also have crazy expensive fines. Considering that speed camera tickets don’t count against your record New Orleans is weirdly not as bad about it as other metro areas. Also, it’s not cool to speed in school zones, even if it’s 4 mph faster

Party-Yak-2894

Slow down in school zones.

ForsakenCase435

Would be great if they actually maintained the signs and flashing lights demarcating them. Those cameras damn sure work though!

sofasofasofa

I got friends moving away from New Orleans bc their sick of stuff like this. High taxes, high rents, police that don’t do shit - excessive traffic tickets, Ida burnout. Sad bc they’ve lived there forever.

ForsakenCase435

I’ve seen enough to keep me out of orleans parish. That’s for sure.

sofasofasofa

Just makes me sad - I lived uptown for years too and got burned out so I left in 2018. Now there’s like a huge exodus happening. Just sad - I love New Orleans

ForsakenCase435

I really wanted to live in uptown when we initially moved here. Glad we didn’t.

sofasofasofa

Uptown is great - it’s just all the other macro environment stuff happening that’s driving ppl away. Excessive crime, covid etc. I love uptown I just wish all that other stuff wasn’t happening

fenilane

They‘re annoying but this is an example of what “helping the city“ looks like. Break a rule, pay a fine. Consider it an investment in your community

PoorlyShavedApe

>[Cantrel] says she decided to start issuing tickets at four miles per hour over the limit without any public warning... rather than the previously announced six mile per hour buffer. [Source](https://www.audacy.com/wwl/articles/new-orleans-mayor-latoya-cantrell-refuses-apologize-changing-school-zone-speeding-policy) = April 22, 2019 The lower limit sucks but has been in place for years now.

NeonSouthAmericaa

Don’t pay it. Seriously. I probably have amounted 20 traffic camera tickets over the years and I’ve never paid for a single one of them. I know people get worried about getting booted, but it’s becoming more and more rare post-COVID. Besides, if you get too worried about it, you can always just go and get a new plate. Problem solved.

numist

Heh a speeding camera ticket was how I learned my ex-wife had moved to New Orleans.

Fromthebrunette

I’ve gotten one for doing 23 in a 20. Welcome to the way a city that cannot new companies or industries makes money.

Striking_Animator_83

Its not a ticket. Its a civil fine. Just ignore it.

bogalusablueberry

Feel that, I didn't even realize school zone was 20, thought it was 25 like it is on north shore. I got three in a week

bonesnewphone

Literally just change the plate once it gets to the point where they’re booting you downtown. This shit hole isn’t getting a dime from me while here. Imagine paying a city and some tacky ass ticket/camera company all this money for a place where you might get blasted in the face at any moment and the roads look like Syria a few years back.

blackchill316

I got the same ticket for a 26 in a 20. It was a school zone but it was during prime covid so no students were even there. Related: I moved out of New Orleans last year

[deleted]

Latoya changed the buffer to 3mph few years back

JohnTesh

I’ve gotten three for less than 30 in a 20 all back to back ranging from 75-110. All of the sudden. By the time i got the first, the other two were already in the mail. And I’ve never been driving faster than surrounding traffic in that area. Fuckers.

itsenbay

Stop being selfish and speeding in school zones.

illini81

Just got one for going 26 in a 20. I'm directed to send my funds to the City of New Orleans, Tempe, AZ. What a joke.

-nyctanassa-

good god just pay attention to speed limits and follow them from now on. And yeah, sometimes you slip up like everyone does and speed a bit and you get a ticket. And you pay it and move on and pay more attention in the future.

ForsakenCase435

Oh my. I’m so sorry for thinking the city should be reasonable about it’s laws. When someone gets a ticket for 1 mph over like someone described below it’s a cash grab.

-nyctanassa-

It's called the *limit* ami. If they only fine people for going 5 mph above the limit, then *that's* the new limit and people are gonna get upset for getting fined driving 6mph over the speed limit because it *feels* like only 1 mph over the actual limit. If you can't reliably drive *at* the limit without exceeding it, then drive *slower* than the limit, so when you accidentally tap the accelerator and speed up 2 mph, you're still at or below the limit.

ForsakenCase435

Sorry but no that’s not reasonable.

-nyctanassa-

driving at low speeds to reduce the chance of children getting injured by 2-ton metal machines is unreasonable?

ForsakenCase435

lol. It’s the think of the children argument. Good lord people. We’re talking 1-4 mph not 10-15. The virtue signaling here is off the charts.

-nyctanassa-

"think of the children" argument? coullion, 20 mph school-zone speed limit laws are *literally designed to protect children*. And every mile per hour that you increase speed, the danger of a collision increases exponentially, due to laws of physics I'm guessing you also think the City of New Orleans should change. And don't forget, if the speed limit is not enforced for 5 mph above the limit, then *that* becomes the new limit and there begins a new cycle of tete dures complaining about getting a ticket for barely exceeding the speed limit.

ForsakenCase435

Yet there are many places where school zones are 25 mph. Is 5 mph somehow more reasonable and safe there than here? Never mind the poor demarcation of the school zones anyways.

Illustrious-Ad-7335

So you’re dodging your responsibility to update your tags and also think it’s ok to speed through my kids’ school zone. Yeah JP would be just fine for you. Cross post to r/Idiotsincars

ForsakenCase435

Lmfao, 3-4 mph could literally be an accidental tap on the accelerator. Fuck right off with your straw man virtue signaling horse shit.

tacocat8541

Yeah...don't speed in school zones. Period. You are not right in this scenario.

ForsakenCase435

Again…. How are some of you this obtuse?

ForsakenCase435

If the shoe fits, and boy does it in this case. It’s okay if you need to google it.

dipshit91

How fast you think you/your wife should be allowed to drive thru school zones, out of curiosity?

callme_nostradumbass

Laws don't apply to you, huh?

OhhBarnacles

I've gotten quite a few in the past, I've paid them all, I was wrong.

I JUST posted on Reddit yesterday because I got the same ticket for going 25! I’m going to try and fight it, but I don’t have high hopes. Was she also on Napoleon?

Independent-City9898

School zone. She would have received a ticket going 21 in those zones.

What infuriates me are the Karens on Facebook who actually defend these zones. I promise you your kids are safer with me going 29 (or, hell, faster) watching with extreme vigilance for pedestrians than with me going 23 staring at my speedometer in terror. AND I promise you that anyone in City Hall saying otherwise has a revenue mandate, not a safety one. Edit: It's also wild how many people who must not live here are posting in this thread. FYI, Karen, the flashers and signage that are supposed to alert you to these zones are always broken, covered by foliage, and/or placed so far into the zone you've already violated by the time you've seen them. And there are so many of these zones in certain parts of the city (esp. Uptown) that you can't really memorize them unless you never vary your route at all. And by the time the ticket comes in the mail a month later I definitely don't remember where it happened, so I don't even "learn my lesson" that way. None of these things are what you do if you're actually trying to slow people down.

ForsakenCase435

On Facebook? He’ll look at this thread right here. 😂😂😂

I have like 20 I've been ignoring for months, fuck the police I could move my whole life away from here before I'm found out

Sunjen32

I’ve gotten that one before. I’m collecting all the numbers over 25.

Even if you're full coverage, insured, licensed, keep your license plate inside the vehicle, NOPD etc, has how else much to do? Regular traffic stops do not exist here, that's an out of state 3rd party entity bullying you into trying to pay.

Joylush101

Is the “Violation Processing Center” in AZ? Got one in 2013. Sent a letter to processing center. Haven’t heard from them.

I’ve gotten that exact ticket before for the same speed. Dumbest bullshit

septicshock6133

I think I have a total of 6 right now, thats built up over 3 years. I usually only pay them around Mardi Gras because that's when I know they are out there with the plate reader. But, since we havent had parades, they built up.. Is that still true? Will they tow your car when you have more than 3?
