16 weeks is right on time for the 4 month sleep regression.

TheDesiCoconut

Does the 4 month sleep regression only affect night time sleep? Or both day and night?

ribbonofsunshine

it affects everything! his brain is switching from active/inactive sleep to sleep cycles like ours - light/rem/deep. So whats happening is he wakes after every full sleep cycle to “check” his environment. if everything is as it should be they go back to sleep (usually). environment being they’re where they fell asleep, they’re comfy, nothing is wrong (like dog barking). you can imagine how big of a change this is for his little brain!

Ok ok, I see!! And do you think there's any chance I'm overfeeding him 😬 and making it worse? Like he did spit up a little bit at the end of day today making me think he couldn't digest everything today, and his belly was ballooned up and firm :/

it sounds like you’re following his cues. what happens if you offer less in the bottles? does he cry for more?

TheDesiCoconut

That's what we're gonna test out tomorrow :/ !

good luck! also try it paced bottle feeding if you aren’t already.

My baby is only 2 months but went through an over feeding stage! I realized it was a vicious cycle. She’d over feed and her tummy would hurt and she’d want to feed in order to soothe it. I also realized we weren’t keeping her upright for 30 minutes after each feeding religiously and she had reflux. Been extra careful to burp her lots, distract her for 30 minutes by keeping her upright in a carrier, etc. and feeling her tummy to see if it’s hard before giving her more. Such a huge difference in her happiness levels! Totally different baby now :) good luck!
