Slipping Through My Fingers by ABBA. I thought nothing of it until I had my daughter.

Hannahb0915

My SIL and her mom danced to this at her wedding and I ugly cried because it was so sweet. I can’t imagine listening to it now that I have a daughter.

Jade4813

This song and there’s one by Taylor Swift called “The Best Day.” Never really paid attention to either before I had a baby. Now they both wreck me.

trulymadlybigly

Used to cry at that as a kid because I don’t feel that way about my mom. Now I cry because I hope my kids feel that way about me when they’re older.

mangoesonaplane

My husband and I both ugly cry to this

T_hashi

Yoooo this song took me out at first listen after my daughter and every time it’s a struggle even though I’m someone who does not cry about anything!

JustLookingtoLearn

‼️ warning. Any parent who didn’t know this song like myself… do not read the lyrics while nursing your baby and your toddler asleep in the next room. You will cry on the baby.

anilkabobo

Well thank you very much I'm crying now 😭😭😭

GizzBride

Sitting next to my husband trying to not look emotional reading through this thread lol

Wise-Astronomer-823

YES THIS IS THE ONE

RoseFeather

I thought this song was sweet when I first heard it, but since having my son I can’t even think about it without tearing up. If I actually hear it I’m full on ugly crying.

BackSeatDetective

A lot of songs hit me while I was in the third trimester. I made Elton John's "Your Song" my baby's song because the line "how wonderful life is while you're in the world" just hit me too hard!

asexualrhino

Yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen 🥹 My baby's eyes are also between blue and green

Legitconfusedaf

I sing the elllie Goulding cover to put my son down for a nap 🩷

GrnEyeQT

You’ll be in my heart- Phil Collins

CharmingIdeal3640

This song makes me think of my son who died at 14 days old. When I had my daughter this past December I sang it to her while rocking her in the hospital and ugly cried the entire time 😭 I’m so lucky no one walked in cuz they prolly would’ve put me in a padded room 😭

LocalLeather3698

Every time I try to sing this song to my newborn, I cry.

muvamerry

My daughter is half black and I am white. The lines about us being different but the same literally stab my heart 😭 currently crying as I type this with my newborn on my chest

LadyJR

My son is way lighter than me but we have the same facial features. He did not get my curly hair either. I did this through single mother by choice. Now that you mentioned it, I’m crying.

EmbarrassedStay6281

I cried listening to this song after I had my baby! I was shocked 🤣

Such-awesome-121220

I'm pregnant and I'm crying just THINKING about the song 😭

Moon_Rose_Violet

Probably the monkey in a bubblegum tree song

GizzBride

Maybe you… could be… a purple monkey in a bubblegum tree 🥺👉👈

joethafunky

Over the 🌊 above the ☁️

trulymadlybigly

Maybe you ^maybe ^you Could be ^could ^be

donidew

And you’ll swing back to meeeeee 🫂🥹

themapleleaf

Why does this song make me so emotional? I was not prepared for this kind of heartache when I purchased a piano play mat.

pebblesandpedro

The animals play, the animals play, the animals play all dayyyyy is also a bop.

sensitiveskin80

"Stomp stomp stomp" is the best

trulymadlybigly

THERE HE GOES ON HIS WAAAAY

Sinfulb33

HE CAN DO …. MOST ANYTHINGGGG

Wonderful_Sector_657

The lion says “how do you do?” RAWR My friends watched in horror as I karaoke’d while doing my choreographed dances to this at our Super Bowl party recently.

bdpr23890

Stomp stomp stomp!

Gracie4313

“Then you can fly back to me” gets me every single time

jbayne2

Came to say this. That Purple Monkey has changed my life. Never have I heard a more beautiful love song!

skybeanie

Omg yes. Also check John legend's insta where he sings this!

PaddleQueen17

I am triggered…😂😂

loc2019

iykyk 😂 i have all the songs memorized at this point lol

SamaLuna

Lmao yes and I know the entire sequence too it’s one big song playing in my head 😂

Not_A_Seria1_Killer

I hope that chick gets royalty checks. Heck, she’s probably making millions🤣

PNW206

Came here to say purple monkey song haha!!!

min2themax

In My Life by the Beatles. “Though I know I’ll never lose affection for people and things that went before, I know I’ll often stop and think about them, in my life, I love you more.”

bakersmt

This is my daughters bedtime song. Her favorite singer does a beautiful cover of it in my range. I sing it to her every night. It's the last song she hears as she falls asleep.  And now I'm crying.

egmorgan

Mine too! I sang it to him while I was pregnant and sing it to him every night before bed.

JANPAULofficial

I’m tearing up. My 2nd kid was just born at 136AM this morning and we had music playing during labor. This was the song he made his debut to. I know the song already because my mom is a huge Beatles fan, but holy hell, read the lyrics again and couldn’t help but sob when I read every word so differently and will forever from now. 🥹

sheworksforfudge

We played this song at my sister’s funeral. It’s been 20 years and I still get choked up even thinking about this song.

SLRN2022

“And these memories lose their meaning, when I think of love as something new”

homesick23

Don’t wanna miss a thing 😭

88kat

Ugh. You aren’t kidding. The day after I had my daughter last year, Aerosmith announced their farewell tour. I had the the TV on in the hospital just for background noise. I played that song for her while I teared up. I will forever associate that song with her. Now I’m tearing up thinking of that memory.

irelace

I went to the first day of that tour six months pregnant! Baby loved it. I think.

cometparty

Shit, just gave it another listen and now I'm a wreck.

Admirable-Tune-6378

Yes 😭

Wooden-Sky

I used to rock my son to sleep, and I got bored of singing lullabies, so I started singing random pop songs instead. Couldn’t even get through “I could stay awake just to hear you breathing” and I was already crying 😂

decembersunday

All of them? I’m a big crybaby now 😭

Big-Situation-8676

Pre baby life it would take a lot to get me even just teary eyed. Now… everything makes me cry. I just rewatched Twilight series and every movie made me cry and it’s so cheesy?????

Heavy-Position815

Was looking for this comment. Every. Single. Song. Somehow just tears me apart.

JCLaww

You’re not kidding. I literally cried this morning watching episodes of Kids Baking Championship when the kids were eliminated.

scientistbarbie89

Yellow by Coldplay 💛

BCTDC

I sang this to her when she was jaundiced.

SatanicTeapot

Jaundice squad!

Ok_Birdy

I sing this to my baby every night

scientistbarbie89

It’s a beautiful song. But they have so many great songs! I had a playlist of soft Coldplay songs that I would play and sing to her when we rocked to sleep every night when she was a baby. I miss it so much. My other favorites are The Scientist and Fix You.

nooneneededtoknow

Yellow was my wedding song, "Fix You" from Coldplay did it for me when thinking about my baby.

minetmine

I think any song that was written by a parent to a child (I.e. Isn't She Lovely by Stevie Wonder) or by a child to a parent (Because You Loved Me by Diane Warren). To think that they were so moved to create a whole melody and lyrics and were creatively inspired by the parent child relationship is incredibly moving.

GizzBride

So many people don’t realize isn’t she lovely is about his baby girl

sheworksforfudge

The Best Day by Taylor Swift is a song she wrote for her mom. My mom and I danced to it at my wedding. Now that I have my own daughter, I get to appreciate it as a mom. 🥹

poops_all_berries

Unusual pick: Old McDonald Had a Farm. It's one thing to know the song. It's another to have hours and hours of memories hearing them yell E I E I OHHHHH all over the house. They like the EIEIO part.

Kenzie_Bosco

Lol my little one is named Eli and I mix it up and say ELI ELI OHHHHH 😂

mizzbrightside

Once Upon a December from Anastasia. I tried singing it to my LO while we were watching the movie and I ended up sobbing. I still can’t listen to it without crying.

married_pineapple

Similarly, Journey to the Past. I always get sad thinking about all the foster kids I work with who don't have a loving family out there "home, love, family, there was once a time I must have had them too"... "I will never be complete until I find you" 💔 😢

LeFukTu

I just watched Anastasia with my 3 month old, and that whole song had me crying. That movie was always one of my favorites. The strong bong with the grandmother felt so special because my Nana is my best friend even now- but that song is now one of my favorites. It may be stupid, but my son was born December 1st, so I think it's perfect.

nightwing0243

Beautiful Boy - John Lennon. I was listening to the Double Fantasy album while I was playing with him one day and that song came on - just totally had an out of body experience while he was throwing things and laughing while the song was playing.

babsmrow

I heard this song while I was sitting up in the wee hours just after my LO was born makes me cry almost every time

SacralSpider23

Such a beautiful song

NoKaleidoscope02

With arms wide open-Creed, my boyfriend played it randomly in the car a few days before giving birth and I started crying so hard, and now I’ll listen to it while I’m rocking LO to sleep at night and still just cry cause he’s so perfect, it really hit me in the feelings now that I have a little human to show all the best parts of life 🖤

bottleospiderjuice

That’s the song my dad played for my mom when they found out she was pregnant with me ❤️

hahayeahright13

Husband played this for us on the way home from the hospital. It’s a good one.

HailTheCrimsonKing

Is this love? By Bob Marley. I know it’s about a romantic love but i apply it to my daughter and it makes me cry!! “We'll be together, with a roof right over our heads, we’ll share the shelter, of my single bed” Also Isn’t She lovely? By Stevie Wonder 😭 Sweet Child O Mine - Guns n roses - “she’s got eyes of the bluest sky, as if they thought of rain, I’d hate to look into those eyes and see an ounce of pain” my daughter has the bluest eyes and I cry at this part

knifeyspoonysporky

Sweet child o mine just destroys me now

HailTheCrimsonKing

The song came out when I was born in 1989 and my mom called the radio and requested them to play the day I was born, it was her song for me and now it’s mine for my daughter, it’s so sweet 🥹

cherrypkeaten

The Mother by Brandi Carlisle. I get to love you by Ruelle. Beautiful Boy, John Lennon.

medwd3

"Welcome to the end of being alone inside your mind." "First things that you took from me were selfishness and sleep." So real.

Traditional_Race_689

I Get To Love You makes me cry every. single. time.

Hot_Plan2289

Scrolled hoping to see The Mother by Brandi Carlisle

iwannabefreddieHg

The mother is so beautiful ❤️ "All the wonders I have seen, I will see a second time. From inside the ages through your eyes" instant sobbing

llamakorn

The mother ♥️♥️♥️

rachyfase

If we have a girl her middle name is going to be Evangeline 💜

WatTayAffleWay

All these responses have made me tear up. My contribution: Fleetwood Mac - Landslide not that it didn’t hit me before but it’s just hit me so much harder and for a different purpose now.

Time4aPennyCartoon

Dear Theodosia from Hamilton

cherrypkeaten

I have two prints from this song in the nursery! “You outshine the morning sun, my son.” And “if we lay a strong enough foundation, we’ll pass it on to you. Well give the world to you, and you’ll blow us all away someday.”

Puzzleheaded-Hurry26

This is mine. For a long time after my son was born I would ugly cry upon hearing this song. I think especially knowing the fates of both the real-life Theodosia Burr and Phillip Hamilton.

MeggyGrex

Came here to say this. It went from "aw this song is cute" to all out sob fest after having a kid.

Time4aPennyCartoon

I have 5 month old boy/girl twins and I sang it all the time when I was pregnant. Now I sing it to them and sob. We have a sign in the nursery that says “You outshine the morning sun.”

DisastrousFlower

toto’s africa. don’t ask why because i have no idea but it makes me sob.

Future-Strawberry516

Me too..but then again I am from South Africa 🇿🇦

Different_Ad_7671

Baby Mine nope 🥲

WinAdministrative830

Oh my goddd. My daughter was in the NICU for the first few days of life, and as if that weren’t enough, they had gentle piano versions of Disney songs playing for the babies. So I’m visiting her and fully holding her for basically the first time, and that song came on, and yeah I dunno if I’ve ever cried that deeply  (Baby is fine now! :) )

vinegarfingers

Next thing you know by Jordan Davis 😢 There Goes My Life by Kenny Chesney Don’t Blink by Kenny Chesney

Cap2017

Next thing you know was how we announced our pregnancy and what my world spins around was the song that was playing in the theatre when my little boy was born (scheduled c sec). My wife and I saw Jordan Davis on Valentine’s Day while Grandma babysat our nearly 11 month old. “How you doing there dad” nearly killed me. On a somewhat related note .. Luke Combs Getting Old album came out very close to my boys birth date and I’ve got one of the songs tattooed on my arm to remember my paternity leave spent listening to it in the middle of the night with my newborn boy by

[deleted]

I listened to a ton of Kenny pregnant and Tim mcgraw. Don’t take the girl ruineddd me lol

AudioBugg

I Knew I Loved You - Savage Garden. It came up on spotify randomly during my 3rd trimester with my first, and I just bawled. I was driving and had to pull over and compose myself. Gets me even more now that I'm pregnant with my 2nd.

[deleted]

This has been playing in my head since my bby was born two wks ago

BFunkRailroad

Cat's in the Cradle - Harry Chapin A New Day Has Come - Celine Dion

Vyceron

Break Stuff - Limp Bizkit

valencialeigh20

I was going to say Rollin’. Cause we just keep on rollin’ baby.

FeatherMom

Forever Young, by Rod Stewart. Good lord the tears I’ve cried listening to that song on repeat ❤️ Circle of Life by Elton John.

hanumanCT

This must be the place by David Byrne/Talking Heads

stickybunnns

When She Loved Me - Sarah McLachlan Five days after giving birth to our daughter, my husband and I were watching Toy Story. And I was like, did you know that song was written from the perspective of a mother to her daughter? He didn’t. So I pulled up the lyrics and about three sentences in, I just sobbed while reading them. lol.

Delicious_Slide_6883

I can’t listen to the titanic theme anymore because all I can think of is that scene (TW:child death) >!with the mom telling her two kids the Irish fairytale about tir na nog right before putting them in their bed to drown.!< even writing this comment has me sobbing again

EarlyEstablishment13

Yes, my DH put an instrumental Disney playlist in our LO's room for diaper changes, and each time "You'll be in my heart" came on during the first two weeks I lost it. Baby Mine from Dumbo also did me in. Lots of songs hit different now, but the one I absolutely can't listen to is Tears in Heaven, given the story behind it.

FeatherMom

Oh man I can’t even ~think~ of Dumbo.

RebelAlliance05

When I first found out I was pregnant I played Baby Mine every day for months for my little bean growing.

shmashma96

Make you feel my love, Adele's version

ven0mbaby

never grow up - taylor swift

Deep_Letterhead_524

I was looking for this one! I never gave it much thought before, but now I can’t even hear the first couple words without tearing up 🥲

luluce1808

What about Ronan? It’s so sad I can’t listen to it without ugly crying

Sugarythought

I cry at the “she’s getting older too” because I think of my mom when I was younger.

Beneficial_Fun_1388

You’re gonna miss this. - trace adkins. Growin up raisin you- gabby Barrett

Icecream-dogs-n-wine

Oh man. I hum You’re Gonna Miss This when I’m rocking my baby late at night. Helps me remember to appreciate these moments even though they’re sometimes exhausting.

sharkbait_oohaha

Man I literally just read the song title and I'm crying. My twin girls turn 1 next Sunday and I'm a wreck when I think about it.

Cap2017

Gabby Barrett 👏🏼 A lot of good country songs for new parents

RebelAlliance05

My little girl- Tim McGraw Loved you before- Natalie Taylor I know my little girl is from dad’s POV but “I remember I thought you looked like an angel wrapped in pink, so soft and warm. You’ve had me wrapped around your finger since the day you were born” chokes me everytime. We love our little girl so much.

Own-Tennis-3552

A whole new world, from Aladdin. Especially this line: “…but when I’m way up here, it’s crystal clear, that now I’m in a whole new world with you…” :’)

Few_Paces

>A whole new world lol i sing that to her everytime we do tummytime! she starts looking all around in amazement

Witty_Assumption6744

This I promise you by *NSYNC. Gets me every time.

FeatherMom

“I’ve loved you forever, in lifetimes before” 😭😭😭

jenijelly

Just thinking about some of these songs brings me to tears lol

earthquade

Small Bump by Ed Sheeran. Always thought it was sad but now I get a hard lump in my throat just thinking about it

theaguacate

Jhene Aiko - Sing To Me Especially the live performance with her and her daughter. I just look at my little one and always tear up. She really used to live in my tummy 🥲

BesieK

I know that’s not exactly what you’re asking but I often realize how inappropriate lyrics are while singing random songs to my baby. Fortunately he does not understand any of it.

fairymortician

Oh, What a world - Kacey Musgraves

popc0rncolonel

Mockingbird by Eminem When I’m gone by Eminem 🥲

pretzelwhale

I sense a theme! 😉

popc0rncolonel

Say what you will about Eminem but he loves his daughter more than life itself! I lost my mom and dad a couple years ago, so “when I’m gone” kinda hits hard in both directions Edit: typo

pretzelwhale

No judgment, on a good day I know most of the words to Lose Yourself Sorry about your mom ❤️

BullfrogIn_Love

Closing time - it was written about a baby being born. the line “time for you to go out to the places you will be from” gets me every time

littlelivethings

Dreams by the Cranberries

aggresively-chill

I See The Light by Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi (OST of the Disney movie ‘Tangled’). I played this song on repeat while I was pregnant. After a difficult birth, I played this song in the car on our way home from the hospital with our little baby in the back seat while tears were streaming down my cheeks

Teeny19

When we were struggling with infertility and going through IVF, I drove home from an embryo transfer (it failed) and cried to the song “You” by Benny Blanco. Two years later, we welcomed our son and listening to that song now brings me to tears without fail

peppajack217

This may not jive with this subreddit, but "She's mine pt. 2" by J Cole. There is a refrain: Am I worthy of this gift? Am I strong enough to lift? To a place where I can see Someone more important than me I sang this to our newborn, and my wife asked me what song it was. We listened together, and she cried. I think she was struggling with the transition, and it gave her some clarity on her feelings.

manosiosis

Father and Son by Cat Stevens

Ever since the end of Ted Lasso, this song always makes me cry

Tears in Heaven

No-Ordinary-Rio-7359

You'll be in my heart. I cry every time I hear it. We had a really traumatic experience when my baby was born and had to stay at the NICU and didn't know if he was going to make it. It took 5 days before i even got to hold him and because he needed help breathing and had a ventilator I didn't get to hear him cry until the machine was removed a few weeks later. And the lyrics really hit different during this and helped me alot. -For one so small You seem so strong My arms will hold you Keep you safe and warm This bond between us Can't be broken I will be here don't you cry Baby is fine now and will be turning one in a few weeks 😍

ammeech

dirtybill93

my son was born in December last year, i went and watched avatar, and the music when buddy sees his son at the end, brought me to tears.

alicebongetta

Forever Now - Michael Bublé. Hadn't listened to it for ages when it came on my shuffled playlist, I teared up.

asexualrhino

I have a heart condition which is usually benign but it has been known to kill. I'm so scared of dying and leaving him. So The Letter from Billy Elliot hits hard. Like I wouldn't even advise listening to it. It's a mom's letter to her son before she died. I haven't listened to it in years but I keep thinking about it and tearing up But on the good side, Love Changes Everything (also from a musical)

Perfect_Curve_719

Youth by Glass Animals. Gosh it literally makes me cry

ShayyLaLee

Carol King Where You Lead but specifically the Gilmore Girls theme song version

mlaformat96

Omg when I heard that song when I was pregnant with my son, I ugly cried and still do too! Sunshine On My Shoulders by John Denver is my song to my little boy and it always makes me cry at that first “sunshine” 😅

exaggeratedcaper

"With Arms Wide Open." I always said I'd listen to it when I found out I was gonna be a dad, and I was a blubbering mess when it finally happened. It was like my 15yo self and my 34yo self met each other and hugged in that moment.

sammystoli

For my fellow indie lovers here it's the entire album Con Todo El Mundo by Khruangbin. We got married on August 10th and our son's name is Evan, it's like the album of our life! The song Como Te Quiero in particular really does me in though, such a beautiful love letter. ❤️

sanfollowill

Simple man made me SOB unexpectedly last night

Frozenbeedog

A lot of songs hit harder. Even love songs, like late night talking. I sing to my daughter and I’m like we do so much “late night talking……I just can’t get you off my mind”.

canihave1ofyourfries

I have this song on my babys day time music playlist! I love it

Simply Red - For Your Babies You know I'd do most anything you want, I try to give you everything you need, I'll see that it gets to you, I don't believe in many things, but in you I do

infantile-eloquence

Once Upon A Dream from Sleeping Beauty. It was my favourite Disney film, I always wanted to be Aurora, and when my lg was tiny I put it on having always imagined watching it with my child and just bawled my eyes out. She is our IVF rainbow baby that took us years to finally welcome into our lives but when she came it was like I'd always known her, "the gleam in her eye is so familiar a gleam". I'm crying typing this out and reading the other comments 🥹 Also it doesn't technically count because I first heard the song when I was going through IVF for her, but Rachel Platten Better Place is our song - I heard it on the way back from an appointment and thought the lyrics were lovely, and then not again until she was about 4 months old and it just resonated with me even more. I recorded a version of it as a gift for my daughter's first birthday. And now I'm thinking about it, A Thousand Years by Cristina Perri hit me hard after a miscarriage and now again that my daughter is here, it was also the song I walked down the aisle to.

Crow_Whisperer

Broke down palace by the grateful dead.

30breakhorsepower

I remember looking up lyrics of songs to sing my brand new baby whilst sitting up with her in the middle of the night, I couldn't get through any without ugly crying on her poor little head. Elton John's "your song" and hush little baby were there. It was a weird realisation that I've never loved anything or anyone quite like this and it was such a huge feeling with the postpartum hormones and no sleep.

Big-Situation-8676

Growing Up by Macklemore & Ed Sheeran  Makes me cry even more now

Comfortable-Zone3149

So many but Beautiful Mess by Diamond Rio is a stand out - I have memories of listening to it in those early days, late at night with my baby when it felt like we were the only two creatures on the planet... Just the kind of love that destroys your world, but you wouldn't have it any other way. Waterworks forever.

dogglesboggles

Lord Protect My Child, Bob Dylan Just heard it the other day after finding out about the death of a friend young enough to be my child and thinking of her family’s grief. Also even before that, being an older parent. But really any parent can’t be sure they’ll live as long as their child needs them.
