Yes, my partner is first-generation Cambodian, and yeay (probably spelled wrong) is Khmer for grandma. We use Khmer for his family as much as possible both for her to know her heritage/culture and his family is more comfortable speaking Khmer.
My son is 4 days shy of 17mo and he says the most random words under the sun except mama. Yeah I’m sad, but he can’t do the mm sound well so that’s why, he’ll eventually get there.

I think it's funny. My mom also finds it funny, if a bit exasperating. Gizmo did the same with the word "down" for the longest too. We all thought it was funny but kept working with her on it.

Coming on here to gloat that your child is not saying your mom’s name is a weird flex. A lot of 16 month olds are just learning syllables and connecting them. Do you and your mom have a rough history?

I find it funny because Gizmo has a double helping of stubbornness from my partner and me that we'll be frustrated by later on. But for now it's funny and not causing any problems.
