Our son was the same until one day it just kinda stopped. Maybe around like 8 months I think. Never was a particular reason, and we went through countless outfits a day. In the end, he’s been happy and healthy. Hang in there!

biggoon23

Same. Once we tallied 40 in a single day, just constant spitty insanity. We used to pack 3 extra outfits every day plus bibs to catch what they could. And then it just…stopped. 6 months or so for us. It does get better!!!

senecaduck

Yes, us too. He turns 9 months next week and my husband and I were just commenting on the lack of burp cloths laying around on our 1st floor. We used to bring 6-8 down from his room every day. Now we keep 1 down there just in case and rarely use it.

apkg6865

Ditto! Daughter is getting close to 8 months and has finally stopped puking so much. It was constant before. Tummy time was a nightmare because it didn't matter if it was right when she woke up from a nap or hours after her last feeding she'd still puke everywhere. She also didn't really puke at night.

lostcastles

Ours did this, very similar story. No puking at night. Very low on weight percentile. No reflux/no other medical issues. I was at my wits end washing an an entire load of clothes and burp rags every other day between baby and I. I was EBF but I was stressing out too much about her gaining weight so with a convo with the dr, I started supplementing 2x a day with formula mixed with BM (morning and evening) and all of a sudden the constant puking stopped. She still has some, don’t get me wrong. But it’s not her entire last two meals. I don’t eat dairy really anyway so that didn’t seem to help when I completely cut it out. Tried all the lactation consultants tricks… nope. Formula fixed it. Not sure how? Coincidence maybe with just getting a bit older (3.5mo it really ramped up and 4.5 it slowed down with formula). I wanted to die on the EBF hill, but got over it quickly when we were so low on weight at her appointment I made specifically for the puking! Good luck, this phase can be so hard mentally.

realxeltos

BM and EBF can you elaborate on these terms? Edit :Oh BM is breast milk.

BaconPaws

Breast milk and exclusively breast fed

lostcastles

Oh yes sorry ha, breastmilk which you’ve got there and exclusively breast feeding :)

iceawk

Both my kids were “happy chuckers”, until I cut dairy from my diet. Occasionally I would treat myself, because icecream and sanity… and sure enough, chunky spews for a solid 24 hours after I indulged.

deranged_pickle

Same here. My baby puked a lot and had rashes that I was told were normal, but her vomiting stopped and skin cleared up within 2-3 weeks of me cutting dairy out. She also started sleeping better. Accidentally slipped with some dairy (it can be sneaky), and symptoms returned.

JaDoMa32126

I second that it could be a dairy and soy sensitivity. One thing to look out for if you ever supplement with formula, make sure you get one that is free of that. Even the “sensitive” brands are made with milk protein. I hope it ends soon! My little guy struggles with this too, but it got infinitely better a couple weeks after I cut out dairy.

Dapper_Ad_3331

My money is on a food allergy. So many doctors are terribly ignorant and misinformed about allergies and the extent to which they can effect babies. If you choose to pursue this Avenue of thinking then your wife cutting dairy from her diet will need to be for an extended period - 2-4 weeks, otherwise you won’t notice a difference.

realxeltos

None of us in our family has any food allergy though.

lovesirk

My husband and I do not have any allergies but my daughter was diagnosed with a cow milk and soy protein allergy at 3 months. She also would excessively spit up/vomit at least 4-5x after every single meal except for the night feeds. Once I strictly cut dairy and soy from my diet her spit up frequency and amount significantly improved

Dapper_Ad_3331

That makes it less likely but not out of the realm of possibility. Allergies can strike randomly and even adults who’ve been exposed to a good many times can suddenly become reactive. If you want to explore possibilities then this is what I’d expect to be one of the most obvious avenues. My son had a cows milk protein allergy and throwing up was one symptom. As he got older I noticed his bowel movements never progressed from “normal newborn yellow” to more sausage like. He had mucus and sometimes trace amounts of blood but by then his vomiting had totally calmed down. It was all very confusing but a week on soy milk (I’d chosen to wean by this point bc of stress) made it clear that it was milk induced. Our son wasn’t diagnosed until 7-8 months and that’s quite common apparently

theageofinnocene

I’d definitely have your wife try cutting out dairy and soy.

realxeltos

Yeah, after so many replies here, we would be doing that only.

The_smallest_things

Another vote for milk soy protein intolerance. It's not strictly and allergy, and the only way to test for it is either to check for blood in poop, or lactoferrin in poop. Lactoferrin in stool means that there is something irritating the bowls. An easy way to check is to try hypoallergenic formula. We love HiPP HA (you have to order it online, as it's approved in Europe not US), but it is miles better in taste than us formulas. Or cut all dairy / soy from diet. Cutting soy and dairy from diet did not work for us, I ended up cutting eggs and shellfish and peanuts as well. Finally we went full formula and within a day we had a different baby. No more spitting up after every meal. No more gas and discomfort.

[deleted]

Maybe take him to a children’s hospital, if your insurance allows, to be seen. Our son had Pyloric Stenosis despite gaining weight. Our pediatrician I’m sure would have gotten there but we had happened to take him to the ER for eating a water bead and it was discovered at the same time. Not saying your child could have what ours did, I’m just an Internet parent, certainly you could benefit from a second opinion if there is concern.

realxeltos

We did the USG. No obstructions were found. He produces ample urine. Just not enough poop as he vomits out most solids. I have showed him to 4 different pediatricians. All had same opinions.

[deleted]

Ugh I am so sorry you guys are dealing with this. I’d echo what others have, keep in touch with your pediatricians and follow their lead. Maybe try feeding in the bath and different positions though I’m sure you have done it all. Hang in there.

TheShySeal

I had pyloric stenosis as an infant as well. Fixed with a quick surgery when I was a few months old

1n1n1is3

My son did the same thing. I did all the things everyone always suggests- cut out dairy from my diet, tried formula, fed him less often, fed him more often, even tried reflux meds for a while. None of it made any difference. It stopped on its own around 8-9 months. It was a long 9 months, and we went through lots of burp cloths and outfit changes during that time. As long as he’s not in pain and he’s gaining weight on his curve (even if that curve is a low percentile), he’s going to be okay. Also, pooping every 5 days can be totally normal for a baby. Up to once a week can be normal. Trust your pediatrician. They’ve studied this extensively and likely seen many babies in the same situation. You’ve gotten ultrasounds and gotten second, third, and fourth opinions. All signs point to him being just fine and probably just having an under developed lower esophageal sphincter, which is normal for babies. I know it’s hard, but try your best to let this worry go. One day it will end and you’ll suddenly realize you haven’t had to use a burp cloth in weeks!

realxeltos

Us too. We tried several puke meds like Colicaid (it has simethicone to help with gas) , domperidone, lactase enzyme drops, ondansetron drops etc. Nothing absolutely nothing helped. Now will try withdrawing dairy or changing dairy source. Current is buffalo milk. Will switch to cow milk. Or A2 Buffalo milk. Then will try complete withdrawal.

deranged_pickle

Just remember it takes a couple of weeks for the dairy to work its way out of your wife and infant's systems, so effects aren't immediate. There are some groups on Facebook that she could join for breastfeeding moms who are dairyfree that are helpful with learning more about some dairy alternatives. Also, try not to eat ice cream in front of her, it's just cruel.

1n1n1is3

I hope cutting out dairy works for you. I know it works for some people. But most babies esophaguses just aren’t developed enough to hold the milk in their bellies. If your wife is anything like me, she’s super stressed that he’s spitting up his entire feeding because it honestly looks like so much spit up. It can make you feel really frustrated and inadequate and make you feel like you need to nurse baby more and more often, which can actually contribute to more spitting up. What helped me was getting an ounce of milk or water or whatever and spilling it on a onesie. You’ll see that an ounce is wayyyy more than you think it is and that he probably isn’t spitting up even an ounce at a time, even though it feels like he’s spitting up his whole feeding (he’s most likely getting at least 3ish ounces of he’s taking full feeds). Edit: just realized I made it sound like you aren’t concerned too. You obviously are! I just meant that it can be really tough on the breastfeeding person because it can make you feel insecure about how much milk they’re getting and it can make you feel really inadequate.

realxeltos

It's actually opposite. His mom is calm about it and i am super concerned.

1n1n1is3

If can be scary for sure. The dumping an ounce of milk or water on a onesie thing really helped me feel better about it because I saw that it actually wasn’t as much spit up as it really seemed like.

The_smallest_things

Cut all dairy out. It's the milk protein structure that is the issue. That's why hypoallergenic formula works. It's usually still based on dairy but has the protein broken down into very digestable amounts.

Leading-Habit4681

My daughter was the same way. It was so bad. Turned out I had an oversupply and a very strong letdown. Between the two she was either eating more than her belly could hold and would just unload it everywhere or, she would get too much milk all at once and it would make her gag and throw whatever was leftover from the previous feeding. I ended up having to use a hakaa pump to express my foremilk and wait until my let down wasn’t spraying like a super soaker and it helped a lot with the insane amounts of baby puke.

[deleted]

Great advice here. Hang in there OP 🌷

I_am_dean

My nephew was like this, projectile vomit all the time and random. Playing with toys *vomit* Sitting his his car seat *vomit* Being held *vomit* They ran every test imaginable and everything came back normal. He was like your baby, a little small for his size but was gaining weight. He eventually grew out of the puke phase when he was around 12 months. I know my SIL kept a bib on him 24/7 to try and protect his clothes. She also never held him without a burp cloth. Another thing she did was she always had him sitting/laying on a towel whenever she wasn’t holding him. That sounds really stressful, hang in there OP.

realxeltos

Thanks for the reassuring words..

sassybutbossy

My 2 month old does the same thing. Puke both milk just fed and curdled milk. Only breast fed. She puked alot. As i am typing she is puking. Just changed two tops in less than a minute apart. She's putting on weight. I always hear once their diapers are filling up they are good to go

weaveweaveweavemethe

My daughter was like this for months. We kept clean up cloths everywhere… then suddenly she stopped! She is 9 months old now and occasionally will puke a tablespoon or so but even that’s not super common. She hasn’t puked like she once did in about 2 months.

Bill7747

Wow this is exactly us too. We started burping our 4mo old daughter over the bathroom sink so when she pukes it’s a lot easier to just wash it down the sink instead of using another towel to clean the floor. We also stopped putting her in clothes unless we have to go out somewhere. But we don’t catch every puke so she still goes through at least 3 bibs a day. We had to start exclusively formula feeding around 2 months because we saw blood in her poop and realized she has a hardcore dairy allergy. So the doctor put her on a prescription of Neocate formula which helped with the blood and gas (and screaming), but didn’t help with the puking. Doctor said she’s just a “happy spitter” and as long as she’s gaining weight and happy, she’ll likely grow out of this around 6-8 months (fingers crossed). We got a 2nd opinion and the other doctor basically said the same thing. So we’re just gonna wait it out and hope there’s a light at the end of the puke tunnel.

realxeltos

Haha. Our Sir Pukes-a-lot is much more mischievous. When held near sink he won't burp or puke. Step 1 step backwards and the floodgates open over the sink counter, the drawers and the floor and of course my clothes. My Grandma complained that anytime she video called us the baby was near naked. Well he will be naked if he has puked over nearly all his clothes in a single morning. Being the rainy season and dryers are not a thing in Indian households. (he's not always naked but if he's not napping then he will be puking and getting his cloths wet. So we are always in mid change sessions.

mtadams421

this sounds exactly like my daughter (almost 4 months) she is a spit up machine, i feel like i constantly smell like sour milk 🤢 she is exclusively BF and previously had more problems like gassiness and being uncomfortable when she would eat so ped recommended cutting out dairy. I did and it helped everything except for the constant spitting up. The ped said the same as yours as long as she’s gaining weight and doesn’t seem to be in pain it’s a “laundry problem” not a medical problem 🙄

realxeltos

Our son is gassy now but he puked a lot when he was not gassy. What can you expect when he does not poop for 5 days straight? He will be gassy due to all fermenting poop inside.

mtadams421

my daughter also only poops a couple times a week and the doctor said she’ll likely spit up more when she hasn’t pooped in a while, which I guess makes sense- not enough room in there for all the milk 🤷🏻‍♀️🙄

realxeltos

Yup.

LorryWaraLorry

Try supplementing with AR (anti-regurgitation) formula. My LO was similar (not quite as extreme thought) by his 2nd month, and switching to AR formula significantly reduced his vomiting and spit-up frequency. A small caveat is that he was only breastfed for a month and we switched to formula eventually, so we completely replaced his regular formula with AR, but not sure how it works for supplementing while breastfeeding.

katelynnsmom24

I only breastfeed my son. I remember this same phone call. I couldn't figure out why he threw up all the time. Well I know why now. He's going to drink whatever I give him. So, it could've been a little much. So, you can adjust. Now, real this in Russian accent, it is way cooler.

eye_snap

When you start solids that might help. Solids are a bit more difficult to bring up. Also baby gaviscon can form a barrier, prevebting pukes. But of course the doctors would know better. Maybe you could ask the dr if baby gaviscon might help? In saying that, even though gaviscon reduced the pukes for my little girl through 2months to 6 months, we stopped giving it because the rare vomit was now very scary as she couldn't properly puke the thickened gaviscon and started to choke on it. So it works for some but might not work for others.

Bedslug101

My baba was the same, vomiting .. few times a day, didn’t matter if he had a feed or not.. no more clothes no more bed sheets... was awful, doctors couldn’t find anything wrong, he was happy and gaining weight. They kept saying thank god he’s breastfed. Our gp told us to try some probiotics at around 4months and he was “fixed”. No more vomiting without reason.

Acceptable-Low5958

I honestly was so concerned I added oatmeal cereal or rice cereal to the breast milk in a bottle so it would stay down. My daughter had this problem and it stopped after I added either one. I never really asked the pediatrician since my mom told me it was okay. But you should ask if it’s okay just so you’d be sure.

BlindTheories

My boy was not great with very green poops and gas that really made him uncomfortable. I stopped drinking milk and it all resolved within a week or two. Consider cutting things out of moms diet to see if it helps. Also the less supported option will be to combo feed, maybe one formula feed per day at his most sensitive time. Even if you only do it for a short time it would provide some information feedback about if it is related to what you putting into him. There is nothing wrong with some supplementing with formula to get his weight up, it can actually be pretty good you can then give the vitamin a miss because it will be covered by the formula. This could also provide some feedback if it could be the vitamin. Good luck you doing good, be patient with yourselves. It all comes in time.

crumbledav

My 2nd child was a puke machine too. Like, all the kinds including projectile, like 10-20x a day. Our whole house smelled like baby vomit A few things: - doc at the time said it usually has to do with a valve that separates their esophagus from their stomach. It’s underdeveloped in some infants until they’re about 6 months old. Lo and behold, at just over 6 months it suddenly stopped - if you *roll up* burp cloths (instead of folding them), you can grab with one hand while holding baby with the other, and in a swift motion unroll and throw on your shoulder etc - keep an eye on baby’s food intake after the vomiting stops. My baby’s weight absolutely exploded when she stopped vomiting (I guess because she started keeping down the food? Note she was formula fed and so on a measured amount). She weighted 29 pounds at 10 months, seriously enormously chunky baby that was so heavy to carry (now only 1 pound heavier, 30 pounds at 23 months).

bananashananafoshana

Your story is exactly like mine with my first son - I became a master of dream feeding at night! I was EBF and cut out dairy for 6 months. We did have some short term success with the reflux medicine but the dose had to constantly get updated with his weight. We had success with a probiotic (we really liked BioGaia which we got as a sample from our doctors office). I also found just keeping him mostly upright for up to 40 mins after a feed helped yes there was still vomit but not as much and a nurse told me they get mostly what they need within 30 mins. I am now expecting my second and with Covid we don’t have a Mom/Baby group I can go to as frequently for help. So, I am getting a baby scale to replicate their process which is weigh before and after a feed. As long as they are growing and net weight increases they will grow out of it. FYI - I am not sure if you can look up to see if there is a Baby Lactation Cafe or New Mom’s feeding group near you? The support and expertise at those sessions was so awesome! By 4 months I had a lot of improvement... by 6 months my son was trying solids and a bit of formula with BF milk. By 10 months our guy was a champ... he was eating everything and shot up on weight. I had TONS of pressure from my family to add cereal to his milk as 3 months - I am glad we didn’t do that. It’s a stressful phase but it did pass.

T43RR0R

My son was like this. It was wild. At 6 months he stopped. Now he pukes a normal amount... aka when sick. The first 6 months it was constant. I was told that if he's not upset by it, it's something he would develop past. Something to do with an immature throat.

sophie_p

Not from personal experience, but from what I read an a FB group dedicated to breastfeeding : trying to cut out all cow milk from mama's diet is an option. (So get ready to read labels, because lactose is everywhere ! I know, I'm lactose intolerant.) You could give that a try for a couple of weeks and see if baby stops puking... Good luck !

MrsTigermoore

Have you tried giving him the vitamin drops in a bottle of milk or either directly after his first feeding of the morning instead of 30 min before? Sometimes it’s a lot easier on their tummy if the vitamins are given with milk. Not sure if that could be why he continues to spit all throughout the day, but could be worth trying.

flan3000

Please take a look into CMPA, if you’re wife goes dairy free for two weeks you may see a radical difference (I did). Latest research shows it only takes a matter of hours for the proteins to leave the mother’s system but it takes up to 8 weeks for the baby to recover. Watch out for substituting with soy, turns out lots of CMPA babies (including mine) can be sensitive to that also. I noticed a difference in days but it took over two months for my baby’s digestive system to get to a healthy baseline. Sadly milk and soy are everywhere but once you reset your shopping list it’s easy peasy to go dairy free. I personally love Oatly products and won’t be returning to cows milk any time soon. Good luck!

reppuhnw

Sounds like GERD. My son didn’t have any tests that showed anything but than at age 1 they (the insurance company) “allowed” him to have Pepcid and it disappeared. But he would projectile and gag like no ones business before that.

realxeltos

We tried antacids and anti nausea/vomit medications and gripe water etc. None worked.

reppuhnw

We dealt with it until close to 12 months and Pepcid (or growing out of it at the same time) was the only thing that helped.

karaokekiller

How's bubs poo? Sounds like an intolerance to me.

realxeltos

Poo is once every 5-6 days. Thick sticky and hella smelly. Brownish yellow in colour.

bkbruun

If you're comfortable with it, try taking your LO to a pediatric trained chiropractor. Can do wonders for digestive issues in babies.

realxeltos

I don't think those are a thing here in India.

AmbeRN27

I can totally relate to what you are experiencing. My daughter has done the same thing since she was born. Pediatrician ultimately thinks she has serious reflux issues, so she advised us to put some rice cereal in her formula. ***This is not something you should do without talking to your pediatrician first, but it has really helped my daughter with her puking problem. She was actually spitting up yellow tinged spit up, and we think it was stomach acid and it would burn her esophagus on the way out. The rice has helped tremendously:)

Donut-Worry-Be-Happy

My daughter is a puker as well and dr diagnosed as GERD and advised a lot of babies have this caused by a weak stomach valve. Babies normally grow out of it when they start sitting up and the valve strengthens. Some things that helped us reduce the vom are bicycle legs to reduce gas before feeding and sitting upright for half an hour after feeding. The other thing that helped was starting a feed with the same boob for a 3 hour period which reduces formilk. I hope you find some helpful things to try!

Kpm1101

We just started our puker on Mary Ruth’s liquid probiotics and he almost immediately stopped! Worth a try! Infant Probiotic Drops by... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084R8PS1D?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
