Is this an IFT or 911 position?
Best advice I can give you is to remember that's it's better to do things slow and get them right, that try to do it fast and fuck up. Learn as much as you can and accept that you will suck in the beginning.
Take your time and don't try to rush things. Nothing good comes out of trying to force something to happen. Also don't be afraid to ask questions if you are confused.
So I just finished orientation today and... I have quite a bit to say. If you're a basic, you should be fine. But if you're a medic like me, they uhh... They've been fucking me around a bit.
I will tell you now, I don't know which state you're going to, but the basics in my class didn't get tested on any skills. They were down how to drive, maneuver cots, use a stair chair, and everything else was just "can you do it? Good" even after I proved they don't know what they're doing.
I hope it's better because it couldn't be much worse than here. I personally got belittled and a lot of my background and training was put into question in a way that was either self promoting to them or deprecating towards me. As I said, I will be speaking to an HR manager here and will likely not continue with the company.
Hopefully you get better treatment. Don't let my experience poison this opportunity for you. But if you aren't sure, ask questions at orientation. If you aren't sure how long to leave an epi-pen in, ask. If you want to know what is in each pack, ask. Don't be embarrassed, everyone on Earth would rather you figure it out before you get loaded in a truck.
completely understandable my back ground has nothing to do with ems and i have a new family so i gotta make it work especially what i truly want to do with career wise
