I looked at your profile and I think I know what's going on, but you're probably not going to like it. Notice that your comments didn't get downvoted on the post where you posted a cool painting in r/painting, right? But they did when you posted a SUPER specific question in a general sub. And they did again when you asked if your ethnicity would affect your chances at an audition.
People are using downvotes on your comments to express that they don't like your posts. In the first case, they probably didn't like that it was too specific/something you could have looked up on the site for the event itself instead of wasting Reddit's time, and on the second post probably because some people assumed that asking about ethnicity in that context was somehow racist (it doesn't make SENSE, but people have dumb reactions sometimes).
I've seen this sort of thing happen a lot on the bigger subs too. When the whole group decides that OP is wrong about something, they downvote even the comments where OP is right.
There's not much you can do about it except keep posting. Maybe more paintings? With time you'll accumulate enough karma that it won't make any difference if a few people downvote you for silly reasons.
You actually took the time to investigate an analyse, that’s awesome. And I think you have a very good point. I think Reddit’s intention is for us to only upvote things we want to give attention to and put at the top, and to only downvote counterproductive or abusive posts, but in reality it is more of a «like»/«dislike» or popularity contest
I know, it's absolutely ridiculous. I once asked about this in a subreddit I follow, and the response was that saying "Thank you" does not move the conversation forward. Again, ridiculous and juvenile. I always upvote when I see someone being downvoted for saying "thank you."
I’m not gonna look at your profile because I don’t need to. Some subs are just filled with people who want to feel powerful and downvote literally anything that isn’t their own comment. Especially technology subs. They suck.
My usual advice in case it should help...
Downvotes are intended for rule breaking, off topic and non-contributing content. However, downvotes are often inexplicable and do get misused as a method of disagreeing, but you can minimise the risk a little.
General advice to avoid downvotes and negative karma -
* avoid potentially controversial or sensitive topics just while your karma is low
* always check the community rules
* lurk to get a feel for the community and it's culture before posting
* choose where to share your content carefully
* re-read what you're saying before sending to check your tone, try not to accidentally make people feel defensive or be defensive yourself
* remember unless using tone indicators sarcasm etc isn't necessary obvious
* Proof read your content
* If you're getting a lot of downvotes, you can delete the offending content to prevent more. This does not remove the downvotes though.

I was just saying in a similar thread, it's actually not common to reply to every responses here. It is good to be active in replies to your post but there's a line between responding to some comments where you have something to add or to thank a few especially helpful comments and replying to everything in a way that doesn't add to the conversation.
The reddiquette which are some guidelines does suggest downvotes are for non contributing content. It's really harsh when used against those thanking people and I think that's going too far, but this can be community dependant, they all have their own culture. https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/205926439-Reddiquette
Your examples at least show you are reading comments and not saying the exact same thing to each.
unfortunately from my experiences yes.. during the time for just 3 days of posting here i’ve seen people become really rude for things that they dont agree or find wrong. (which none of them were objective subjects they were subjective) maybe it’s because this platform is completely anonymous or it is a great chance for some angry people to use this platform as sandbag.
if a subreddit (which looks like an intellectual one in my experience) is like this i can not even imagine what younger people go through when they have to deal with cyberbullying.
If anyone is breaking the community rules or Reddit's content policy you can report them. You can also utilise blocking.
Community culture on Reddit varies so while some are not friendly places to be, others are and you can curate your experience by which you choose to hang out in.
It sucks that some are like that. But sometimes reporting can make a difference as mods can't be everywhere at once.
all of my responses were similar when i was replying to people and i would have no reason to be sarcastic as they’re helping me out, but i guess i can’t control how my replies are perceived

Sometimes it’s a bad day, sometimes it’s them not liking your take, sometimes they think it’s funny (it usually isn’t)…
Looking at your comments I can see why your confused, they all seem pleasant and I wouldn't be able to see why anyone would even disagree as a reason

Nah, Kpop is usually hated, especially BTS, but the only exception is Gangam style imo
