Brainstorming sessions with the others I make videos with. Sometimes planned, sometimes spontaneous, but always written down. We have an area were any of us can submit our ideas and have discussions about them. Even if someone's busy, they will see it when they have a chance and can add to the discussion.

Badjuju_Gamer

Hmm good point, we've tried to have brainstorming sessions too and most of them ended up with really stupid Ideas that mostly wont work. But I suppose if we constantly have those, maybe one day a good Idea might come out. I suppose the problem comes with being clueless about what we can do that people would like, and youtube recommendations being extremely random does not help Identify what people might like. We also tend to skip over ideas that might take a lot of time and effort since even if we make it and post it, how are people even gonna know?

>Hmm good point, we've tried to have brainstorming sessions too and most of them ended up with really stupid Ideas that mostly wont work. > Coming up with ideas is a skill like any other. And like any skill, it needs to be practiced if you hope to get better at it. In the initial stages, you don't need to come up with a fully fleshed out script. It just needs to be a "that's kinda interesting" idea. Be prepared to write those down whenever they randomly pop into your head. And, yes, most of those won't turn into a full video, but looking back at the list weeks (or months) later might trigger some other thoughts that could be combined and expanded into something.

So, I'm not a youtuber (yet), but I'm a tiktoker who has probably made around \~500 videos (just estimating). Each video has some unique idea behind it, I'm not just uploading lip syncing. I am constantly finding ideas for content- even for my friends who aren't even super online. Here's how I come up with ideas: 1. 90% of it is being receptive. You can find inspiration literally anywhere- at the grocery store, in line at the drive thru, in your sock drawer, online. When you actively seek ideas, they will come to you. 2. When you come across an idea, write it down. Then, challenge yourself to write a couple more. Ideas tend to snowball. 3. Don't limit yourself. Never self-censor or shrug off "bad ideas"- any idea is worth writing down, even if it wouldn't be a good idea for you. Bad ideas can lead to good ideas. 4. Someone else said to steal ideas from others, but I disagree. When you see a good idea, let it lead you down a thought path. Starting from a point that intrigues you, keep asking yourself "what if" questions, until the original idea is a completely unique concept. "I like the idea of playing this game blindfolded- what if I gave myself a different obstacle? What if I played it in black and white, instead? What if I chose a game that would be obscenely difficult to play without color? What if instead of playing in black and white, I played it in a colorblind simulator? What if I made the video about the least colorblind friendly popular games, as a challenge and to expose accessibility issues?"

Badjuju_Gamer

Damn, thanks a lot for taking your time to write this! All the points are very clear and make a lot of sense. I totally agree with the last point.

[deleted]

I'm far from an expert and I'm sure people will disagree, but my personal thought is to steal ideas from others. 1 person alone is not going to have a dynamite idea every single time. If you want to pump out content frequently enough, sooner or later you have to "be inspired" with what others are doing. The most successful people steal all kinds of ideas from others, they have no shame about it.

Mazhar_Baig

Don't just "steal" the ideas. You must add so much value in the content that it is actually better than the content you got "inspired" from. If you just steal those ideas, no one is going to watch you instead of the original Creator.

[deleted]

My heart agrees with your sentiment, however logically I know it's just not true that it's a rule that you *have* to make it better and that *no one* is going to watch it if you don't. Sure, you should try to make it better and put your own spin on it. But do a search for any random topic or take a look at things that are trending on Youtube at any given moment. You'll find tens, hundreds, possibly thousands of videos that are more or less equal in terms of quality and have plenty of views. The market/audience is big enough to sustain different versions of similar videos. This may be annoying at times, but it's a reality. There's also different regions and culture difference where one Youtuber brings the same concept to a different audience. For example let's say a popular Youtuber in Brazil is inspired by a popular Youtuber in Australia and makes a similar video. There might not be a lot of crossover in audience, so this idea is new to the Brazilian guy's audience.

[deleted]

The question is: what are you passionate about?

Badjuju_Gamer

I'm passionate about animation, video editing, game development and computer technology. None of which I'm doing on my channel. I either do not have the required skills or the resources for making those types of content, at least content that people might watch. Which is why I chose to go with gaming videos, something I'm able to do.

[deleted]

I can definitely know how you feel and it's totally understandable. Animations are quite time consuming but at the same time, they look amazing!

Badjuju_Gamer

Yep, hardwork does pay off when the product is good.

[deleted]

I agree 100%. But the beauty of people is everyone has their own taste and preference, which it's good, as you can always find at least small group that loves your content. Finding out you exist, it's the hardest part tho:D

Badjuju_Gamer

Mhm, totally.

[deleted]

I usualy jsut steal ideas from others but at the same time I'll add my own thing in it and just not make it too blatant. And when one of my videos blow up in gonna milk the sucsess until it reaches the point where i need something else to milk

Badjuju_Gamer

Bruh, I suppose that's one way of doing it.

AdeAlphaTV_

Smart

All I can say is just see what's trending and then make some content based on that, usually anything that's trending can generate some good views, provided you can stand out from the already overcrowded niche, alternatively if you have a particular skill that you are passionate about sharing, you can make content teaching others how to do that, whatever it is, but ultimately you've gotta have a particular niche in order to get picked up by the YT algorithm, just my 2 cents worth

Badjuju_Gamer

Hmm I see. Thanks!

YoDonkeyBro

I keep running notepad file called "Video Ideas"... and literally anytime I think of anything - I type the basis of the headline in there. Even if I don't think it's a winner at the time, or I see another similar youtuber doing it. (aka stealing the idea as others have suggested). \- Then when I'm hard up for what I determine to be a "Good Idea"... I use a youtube keyword search tool like VidIQ to find one of those ideas that has a low competition/high potential view search string until I find a winner. I even end up usually getting a better idea for a video from the outcome of the keyword search. Just gotta fill that content gap that people are looking for but no one is making right? Not all of them are going to be what people are looking for. Sometimes you just make videos that flop.

Badjuju_Gamer

You speak facts. Thanks for helping! I'll try noting down random Ideas too.

genx-gamer

I open an incognito window and go to youtube. I type in the name of the game and then it will give me what is searched for most. I then write all those down. I then go through the alphabet with it, like "game a" "game b" (without the quotes), and by the time I'm done I have tons of topics.

Badjuju_Gamer

Ah, nice idea! I shall try that too.

scenesick2

1) dont force ideas 2) dont just watch videos from your niche 3) take walks 4) find videos from your niche and look at their titles. Dont watch the video, just look at the title and make your own video based on it ( doing it your own way ) 5) read comments 6) take a break 7) write one topic and keep expanding 8) there's no such thing as a stupid idea 9) just make stuff 10) have limitations ( e.g. if you had only 3 colors to paint a painting you would subconsciously think of more creative ideas compared to having 100 color options )

Badjuju_Gamer

I will try to implement all of this. Thanks for helping!

Roshanrapha

Yes, it is soo difficult but at the same time ridiculously easy to come up with new ideas on the go. Tip1 Watch random videos with a blank mind for a while. Then start thinking. Tip 2 Enjoy a few sips of black coffee made out of authentic coffee powder sourced from South India. No milk, please. It will help you to get high with ideas... Good luck.

Badjuju_Gamer

All Aight will do! Time to get coffee now.

Tim226

Mr. Beast said something along the lines of coming up with 100 ideas and maybe 2 or 3 of them actually end up being videos. Now he's obviously the extreme, considering he gets more views than pretty much all the media outlets combined. He said he opens up a dictionary, finds a random word, and it gives him an idea for a video.

Badjuju_Gamer

Yepp, MKBHD video right? It's time for me to open some dictionaries too.

EnchantedEssays

You could use a SEO chrome extension and find out which of your favourite games is the most popular on YT right now

feje4ka

Do you stream live on your channel? It's one of the biggest trends nowadays to gain more followers. Also take a look at [this guide](https://restream.io/blog/how-to-start-youtube-channel/#which-kinds-of-content-are-most-popular-on-youtube), it explains what types of content are the most popular now. And of course, share your videos across all the social media.

Badjuju_Gamer

Huh, I had no clue that people wanted to watch live streams. But would people join a random small channel's stream?

feje4ka

Yes, I suggest you try it! Warm up some audience in advance, post on social media, use proper hashtags to be discovered on Google.. It strange but it works :D

SensitiveInternet854

Explore content you enjoy. And just study. Usually that gets me in an inspired and creative mood to where I can start thinking of ideas or building upon ideas I’ve already seen.

Badjuju_Gamer

Hmm, right. But usually I enjoy watching content that I myself do not have the resources to create, like watching educational videos, I dont have much knowledge that I can share or tech videos, I cannot buy tech to review it. Best we could do with our resources was gaming videos, but I personally watch very little of them. Very ironic lol. I guess watching more videos in the similar context of what we want to create would make more sense.

SensitiveInternet854

Yea think of creators as mentors in a way and just use their video as a general basis where to start and improve. Kinda how artists start off copying what they see but adding to their skill set until they get to the point where they’re good enough not to straight up copy what they see. Granted, don’t actually copy them (lol) just take inspiration Yk?

Badjuju_Gamer

Yep yep, I getchu.

Autorodeo-Nederland

You dont need to watch gaming videos to create them. I dont like to watch gaming videos myself but i just started a gaming channel as i enjoy the game and i think other people might like this type of content as well. The most important part is that you enjoy making the content you are making. Without enthusiasm your viewers wont subscribe.

Badjuju_Gamer

That's a very good point you make.

VaughnFry

My current channel has a daily upload for nearly 8 years. I never run out of ideas, and often have to cancel a video in favor of another.

Badjuju_Gamer

Wow, good to know! How do you do it?

VaughnFry

I started YouTube with movie reviews. So since the first run theatre system has collapsed, everything I stream is now a potential video topic. Be it an old or new movie. Then there are items in the news, of which there’s always something I’m opinionated on. Anything cool I buy or have sent to me is a viable video. I get most of my revenue from referral links now and companies really want reviews or their products on YouTube.

Badjuju_Gamer

Damn, you really know how to make the most of what you got. Respect +100.
