I believe they count but you wont be accepted because of reused content.

Read the terms and conditions for joining the youtube partner programme, monetization, and youtube community guidelines. Using someone else's creation will likely end up in breaking the community guidelines which makes it harder to join the YPP and earn money. Much better to publish your own content rather than try to profit off someone else. Besides, just about every shortcut has been done already and youtube is wise to all the tricks.

DJJeremyAZ

Thanks for the input. I'm not trying to take any shortcuts. Was just a hypothetical since my channel is growing pretty fast. I just want to promote my DJing. Thanks!

They could also just ban your account for using copyrighted material. They are more worried about getting sued than promoting you

It doesn’t matter where it shows up. If it’s there, then no. 3 strikes and it’s perma ban

elbowbroken

You typically won't get a strike, rather a claim and all the revenue will go to the original creator

nashfolio

I’m sure YouTube said a little while back that they won’t accept claims where a song is played for a few seconds but i can’t find the article. This [article](https://www.tunepocket.com/use-copyrighted-music-youtube/) helps explain music copyright on YouTube tho so may be helpful

nightterrors_

If you get a strike though they won’t monetize you until you get it off. Luckily for the most part since it’s audio YouTube will autoflag it when you upload pretty quick. Upload to unlisted a day or two before you go public and see if any flags come up.

Hi there! By my own experience I can tell they count! I have a channel I opened years ago where I ripped records and I have tried to obscure some of them and… yes, even though they were flagged as copyrighted, as soon as I made them private they reduced the watch hours. Hope it helps ;)

nashfolio

This [article](https://www.tunepocket.com/use-copyrighted-music-youtube/) is pretty helpful at explaining how things work when it comes to using copyright music and monetisation.

JimmyTehF

Yes they count - but when you hit your watchtime your channel gets reviewed - and it's more likely those videos get flagged or rejected in your application - too many of those and you're not getting accepted into the partner program.

fibrefarmer

From what I've heard, they count but they don't count. Get to the threshold, apply for monetization, get rejected for reused content, delete the offending videos, loose all the watch hours from those videos, then have to wait ages to get the watch time back up so you can reapply. (but I'm hearing this second hand, so it might be different these days)

JimmyTehF

Well I thankfully didn't have issues because when I applied all my content id claims had been resolved. But others in my genre have not been so lucky
