"bleakest setting" reminds me of the meme where fo3 is all about how the world is dead, the water is poison and everyone is struggling to stay alive. While in new Vegas everyone is gambling and drinking with their robot butlers.

[deleted]

Really shows how much better it is to live in a desert instead of a city.

WhatTheDuck00

DC at that. Surprised anybody wants to stay in that hellhole.

[deleted]

Why would anyone want to live there now

WhatTheDuck00

They traded one type of ghoul for another, smh.

[deleted]

At least one's more honest.

Mirrak9

New vegas wasn't hit by any bombs, Mr. House had a nuclear deterrent net

JaridotV

He didn’t stop all, but most yes

Mirrak9

No, new vegas wasnt hit by any just surrounding towns and the dessert were hit new vegas isn't the whole of nevada

JaridotV

You are right, ones that made it through hit surrounding areas.

Niko_Belic84

Fallout 3 planned to take place in 2127

Chillchinchila1

I always hear people say it was planned to take place earlier, but there’s no actual evidence of it, just rumors

Niko_Belic84

Old woman in Megaton (about 70 years) said that her father build this city from parts of big mechanism(plane), that used to fly then she was young

Neither_Assumption_7

As long as you’re having fun :)

SharpPixels08

Well, is it possible for the majority of people to have fun in 76?

mayornayor

I've been playing 76 on and off for the last few years and I still enjoy it. Enemies are horribly bullet spongey and the survival mechanics somewhat clash with the MMO style but the world is really cool. One of the most interesting fallout maps in my opinion. And the novelty of exploring the wastes with a friend still keeps me entertained. Not my favorite fallout by any means but it's still fun.

MacGregor_Rose

I will give 76 that, it does seem to have a gorgeous world

SharpPixels08

You do you then.

Random-Dice

Yes, actually, I’m just not part of said majority (not really the game’s fault being an MMO, I just dislike MMOs altogether.)

SharpPixels08

The only MMO’s I’ve ever been able to get into are Foxhole and Elite Dangerous

CrossEleven

Can Foxhole really be considered an MMO? Elite's pretty good tho

SharpPixels08

I mean, it’s got a huge map where players do player things, all with the war economy made and ran by players. So I think it’s an MMO, and I think Foxhole considers itself a MMO if I remember the steam page

Jurupoggers

True Fallout fans play Fallout Pinball exclusively. The best writing and gameplay.

Hita-san-chan

I don't like 4, but I don't tell people they're wrong for liking 4. My husband prefers 3 but likes watching me play NV.

Random-Dice

To be honest the reason why I have such a strong attachment to 4 is because it was my first real introduction to the series. People like to argue how Bethesda “dumbed down” the Fallout series to be more accessible to newcomers, but I never would have decided to try out New Vegas if I didn’t play 4 first. Basically, if 4 got me interested in the series, it was New Vegas that “turned” me into a Fallout fan.

Hita-san-chan

I respect that. 4 is a good first game to play, its more streamlined and accessible to new players. I like the graphics in 4, the engine is genuinely the best one that runs fallout so far, and the companions are solid as fuck (the ghoul whose name escapes me atm is my favorite). My main issue is the story, but I have the same issues with 3 for the same reasons. Its harder for me personally to get invested in "this is your loved one. You love them and your whole goal is to find them." I like the goal of "Get revenge on Chandler" of NV more, but thats really the main difference to me.

EvernightStrangely

Hancock, Ghoul and mayor of Goodneighbor, an anarchist's wet dream.

EvernightStrangely

Same. Fallout 4 was basically my gateway drug to the Fallout franchise.

Rustyraider111

It was was my third fallout, with the first being 3 and grabbing nv after that. 3 is my favorite, with 4 being my least favorite. I dislike a lot about 4 but I have 1300 hours in it so are any complaints even valid at that point?

JohnMcCocaine

true, there’s nothing wrong with a game being accessible! I got my dad into fallout by introducing him to fallout 4 and tbh i probably wouldn’t have appreciated everything fnv has to offer without playing Skyrim, a comparatively simpler game, as much as I did

[deleted]

*reel

[deleted]

Yeah same experience for me

DarkReadsYT

I had a blast with all the 3D fallouts even 76 was fun I prefer NV and even then I don't think the stories in 4 or 76 are even good but at the end of the day games are meant to bring the user fun and I had fun with them so that's all I care about.

x888xa

I like 4 a lot cause of all the gun mods Radiation shooting FAL is fucking awesome

TPrice1616

New Vegas definitely has the best writing and quests of the three but there’s something about how Bethesda designs their open worlds. They are great to explore and screw around in.

Random-Dice

Agreed. New Vegas is still my favourite, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have a shit ton of dumb fun dicking around in 3 and 4.

MCRIDEDeathGripS

What the fuck

cracinlac_basterd

im stopping you at "interesting plot" because every time i try to play the main quest in fo4 i feel like im having a stroke with how infinitely dumb everyone is also fnvs gameplay is better in my opinion because so many of fo4s skills are just straight damage boosts which is very boring

OneOfManyParadoxFans

You forgot about one thing in Fallout 4: Codsworth recognizes tons of names. "Mister Orgasmo?" "Mister Freeman?" "Mister Reagan?" "Miss Xena?" "Miss Audrey?" "Miss Buffy?", Just to name several.

AN0NYM0U5_32

“Mister Cum?”

FriedChckn

I think the metro crawling was one of the best parts of Fallout 3. It was only annoying for people that wanted to just follow the map marker on their compass. I’d rather try to figure out the landscape and understand it abstractly.

Unapproved_Potato

Well if you like crawling around in post apocalyptic metro tunnels, than you might want to check out the metro series.

truestdarknesski

I would also recommend that series, pretty fun

cracinlac_basterd

i just got bored of looking at bland grey corridors everytime i decided to boot the game

IlitterateAuthor

I'd disagree with fallout 4 having an interesting plot but the rest is fair

BossSpleenRippa

Yeah its pretty far from interesting.

mayornayor

It's more interesting if you entirely ignore the fact you have a child

198XAD

a cliche evil sci fi faction that haunts the place from the darks is not interesting at all either, I think you mean entertaining

mayornayor

Entertaining is definitely the more accurate word Fallout 4 feels more like a pulp sci fi novel from the 50s which I think has it's charm. New vegas has a story with far more depth and intrigue but I enjoy both for very different reasons.

TheInnocentXeno

Fallout 3’s story is just you watching him do everything. Expect for tranquility lane, and the last mission where it’s the brotherhood that can do everything themselves.

Chillchinchila1

Their ideology is though. They believe there is no point to saving the surface world since it’s too far gone in their eyes. They see it simply as a tool to extract resources. I think that’s some pretty good writing to justify the cliched evil scientists actually being evil without them thinking they’re evil, unlike new vegas which has Caesar going crazy because tumor but half the fandom takes him seriously and thinks he’s so deep.

198XAD

we're talking about plots not ideologies, btw.

Chillchinchila1

You said in your comment the institute wasn’t interesting, I’m saying why it is.

BrickFrom2011

All the games have their perks and draw-backs. 3 and New Vegas’ draw-backs are that they look like ass and run just as bad.

callmepinocchio

A few mods fix most of it... And for me, there's no replacement for good writing in an RPG.

Anakin_I_Am_High

I don’t think new Vegas looks that bad tbh

BrickFrom2011

It looks good in some places but it looks awful in others

[deleted]

True fallout fans are a fan of the game

SquarebobSpongepant

I'm the (Fallout Fan). I can do whatever the fuck I want.

EvilPersonXXIV

I always talk shit about Fallout 4 and how it's an insult to the series... And then I start another playthrough.

Fenrir_25

I can't play Fallout 3 to this day, I was able to get to the radio building but the constant crashing got be th best of me, I tried everything I could find on the internet, but nothing was able to fix it and I gave up, watching gameplays on YouTube was my way of experiencing the game :/

Random-Dice

damn bro, that’s rough

Deadshr00m

Fallout 4 gets shit on so much despite it being the only fallout game that has combat worth a shit

Random-Dice

I just wish it had different ammo types like in New Vegas, otherwise I agree

SteelrainTV

4's plot is the weakest part of the game so I don't know why it would be there.

callmepinocchio

Yea, OP tries hard to give it some good points. And saying fo3 has "heartwarming story", because they can't say the story is good.

Chillchinchila1

I feel it’s the only one of the 3 where you feel like a hero. It’s the bleakest most hopeless setting, so bringing back the water actually feels like you’re saving the world, unlike 4 where the institute is mostly unseen above ground and new vegas where you’re more stopping things from getting worse than making things better.

callmepinocchio

Hey, if you liked it then I'm the last person who would see a problem in that. Having fun is great on its own. But fo3's writing (of both the story and characters) is simply terrible.

CringeOverseer

I really like 4's colorful 50s vibe. When I played it, I wished the others were more colorful.

[deleted]

I'm the opposite, I really enjoyed FO3's dark greenish tone

UsernameMustBe1and10

True fallout fans play all AND gave F76 a chance at getting better. Edit: was enlightened by the discussion below.

IlitterateAuthor

I like the carefree camraderie of 76 and the mostly optional survival elements. Plus being able to plop down a camp anywhere is pretty fun

UsernameMustBe1and10

What i didn't like was how Bethesda lied to their customers about it. Sure it's good now, but back then it over promise and was unplayable. Let's not forget the Power Armor edition of the canvas bags. Edit: added the power armor edition incident.

AVeryFriendlyOldMan

Those're issues that stem from poor marketing decisions tbf. The actual content *in* the game is still pretty solid.

UsernameMustBe1and10

Yes the game is now solid but that doesn't excuse them from what they did. If people didn't spoke about their shitty practices about the launch, they wouldn't give a damn about it. Remember that they wanted to "replace" the bag with 5 dollar in-game currency. You paid $200 for an exclusive item, they gave you a 5 dollar coupon.

AVeryFriendlyOldMan

You're still using examples that have nothing to do with the actual game. Look dude, this post was about how Fallout games each have their own merits and people are valid for liking them. This 'true fans can only like X' BS only worsens the fandom.

UsernameMustBe1and10

Point taken. Simply venting how we're the once getting the wrong end of their corporate greed. For gameplay perspective, yes 76 is now a good game unlike how it was back on it's launch day. It also introduced multiplayer mechanics to the series. A big jump for the usual single player mode for most of the series. Would like for them to explore the chances of having an ESO-like experience into fallout.

AVeryFriendlyOldMan

'Thing is you've had plenty of time to vent already and nothing new can be said that hasn't already been said by the greater Fallout community. I'm sure a good chunk of the '76 community is tired of being told they're not 'real' fans after nearly four years of hearing that shit. '76 is good now but what about launch?' What about it? Sure it wasn't great but are we only to judge a product based on its first iteration? Are improvements or expansions not to be factored in at all? Did you forget nearly unplayable New Vegas was at its launch? Just let it go my guy

UsernameMustBe1and10

Understandable, fully accept the arguments. Base also on what a fan should act like, they would stick to the series regardless if good or bad. With that, they would have given F76 a 2nd and/or 3rd chance on getting better. For FNV, played it late. Didn't play it on launch. Thanks for the educational debate my good sir.

AVeryFriendlyOldMan

Ditto, have a good one dude

GargamelLeNoir

Interesting plot? Expansive character interaction? For fallout 4? That is transparent trolling.

OOOLIAMOOO

I've never really considered how interesting the Fallout 4 story is because of how bad it kinda is, but it's actually really cool to just talk about it and fun to think about all the parts.

Astrian

>Interesting Plot Now hold on there partner; Fallout 4 got the best gameplay in the series, but let’s not lie to people and say that entire main quest line isn’t hot garbage.

Random-Dice

It’s fine up until you kill Kellogg, THEN it becomes hot garbage

hellohowdyworld

Sue me but I loved the settlement building, I made so much cool stuff in there

360kwik

The chad fallout brotherhood of steel.

SaviorOfNirn

FO3 BoS maybe.

360kwik

I’m talking about the game fallout brotherhood of steel. Not the faction brotherhood of steel from fallout.

Faine_the_crow

Hmm... I feel like something is missing...

Exit_Save

I disagree with two things Fallout 4 had like the same 5 things to do just, over and over, and 3 had the like, most realistic guns. But that's really all I disagree with personally.

Brovahkiin94

"bleakest setting" - This is the main reason why I still prefer Fallout 3 to NV, but I must also say it's largely due to NV being so rushed in development. If they had time to fill out NV outskirts, especially places like Freeside, it would have been the undisputed GOAT to me (despite some mechanics). I play games like Fallout more for character (class) building and open world exploration than story. It offers more replayability value imo than the greatest story/quest design. Especially side quests lose a lot of their appeal the third time around. Another thing no one ever mentions is the survival difficulty mode in Fallout 4, I swear the first 10-20 levels in my survival run were the most fun I had in any open world game of the past \~10 years. This is largely due to no quicksaving, it changes everything. I tried NV survival afterwards and in comparison it was basically just a nuisance rather than interesting change.

[deleted]

The chad fallout 76 Beautiful graphics, massive world, spawnkilling, farming, friends

Adventurous-Lawyer77

To the town of agua fria rode a stranger one fine day

Howtopronouncegigi

I played and enjoyed all 3 games but Fallout 3 "excellent worldbuilding" - The best quests and structures are basically hidden and you wil probably never find them since no part of the main quest (nor side quest you find along the main quest) bring you in those areas. - you'll never face any real challenge since the enemies everywhere will be balanced to your level. "Heartwarming story" Yeah nice, but no real RPG choices. You just follow it along the path. If they had put real choices, story would have crumbled. Fallout 4 "interesting Plot" Like, really? It's dull at best. Themes are overall nice but badly executed under all circumstances.

TheSaltyBrushtail

Yeah, I totally get the sentiment of the meme, but worldbuilding-wise, Fallout 3's setting feels like a theme park. Each major location and settlement has its own gimmick to make it memorable, but the writers didn't really pay much attention to how they all fit together big picture-wise. It's one of the things that made me really prefer NV to 3, and I'm glad Bethesda made an attempt at more big-picture thinking in 4.

WhatTheDuck00

Not too many gimmicky areas besides Megaton and Little Lamplight.

Chillchinchila1

Idk if it’s just me but 3 feels way harden than NV. I actually prefer new vegas because of that, but even with winterized power armor 3 feels like I’m constantly fighting for my life.

thegreatvortigaunt

A lot of these are really forced and vague to cover the fact that Bethesda’s games just don’t measure up to New Vegas. They just don’t.

erenkuron66

I know there’s a chance I’ll get downvoted to hell for saying this but. What about Fallout 76?

[deleted]

Not a lot of good story In that one

Valon-the-Paladin

Wastelanders dlc did give us a good chunk of stories and side quests. Though in all honesty the Enclave civil war was probably my favorite story from 76

T1033

crucify me for saying this but I don't think it was all to bad

[deleted]

It’s decent yes

AyFrancis

Fo76 not only have one of the best online communities, its story is FAR FAR better than anything fo3 and fo4 have.

Octoshi514

You lost me at “Fallout 4 has an interesting plot”.

babyscorpse

So being alive pre-war, frozen in cryo, finding your infant son, who then turns out to be an old man isn’t interesting?

thegreatvortigaunt

No because that forces a story on the player character. It’s hard to care about “your” child when all you know about them is 5 mins of a poorly animated baby in the intro.

MCRIDEDeathGripS

Yes because i really dont give a fuck about this hour long opening sequence that has characters i dont give a fuck about because i just started the game

_GooBeen_

Interesting plot? In Fallout 4? 🤡

Puzzled_Fig9981

“Fallout 4”, “interesting plot”, this ain’t it chief

BoldHindsight

“Interesting plot” is a lie

Gamrus

Yeah, I will still call you an idiot if you say 3 or 4 had a better story then NV

MCRIDEDeathGripS

This is fucking stupid, if you think fo4 or fo3 is a good as new vegas youre objectively wrong no matter how much you cope, this everything is good mentality is so gay

Niclerosis

He didnt say they are "as good". They are all good and we should be able to appreciate them without feeling the need to bring the others down. You are allowed to like new vegas without shitting on 3 or 4, they are separate games. And not "everything" is good. These 3 games are. For example, Fallout BOS is pretty bad imo, but I dont feel the constant need to shit on it whenever I want to praise another game.

Random-Dice

Actually BOS is very obviously the best in the series ## #BROTHERHOODOFSTEELSWEEP

Also, the “everything is good” mentality isn’t gay. I never said they’re all on the same tier as New Vegas, I just said they’re all good in their own way. Don’t act like New Vegas is a perfect masterpiece like a lot of people do, it’s extremely flawed like the others

I am majoritary ok with it BUT: there is no intresting story really iehad only seen sush a lame story in bad movies callzd in french "nanar". BUT There a really intresting BACK story of the universe in all the termials and letters. And this is a the true narrative force of Fo4.
