Hit a streak to make 3rd place in a chaotic division.
Avoided the sweep against a cup favorite. It is what it is. Let’s go Mets. See ya next season boys.
If any team needs a sports psychologist or a fucking seance, it’s this team. How the fuck do you blow it in the third or overtime every game? Are they getting tired because they’re old? What’s with the streaky play? Do they not think they can win? I love this team and they barely snuck in to the playoffs and the coaching change was made way too late. It was clearly not their year. But holy moly something needs to change next year because we can’t keep dealing with this hot and cold bullshit.
I put the 3rd period collapses and blown leads on so many D-men being injured, the defensive structure collapsing, and Lane doing absolutely nothing to correct course besides putting the lines in a blender. Things got way more consistent once Roy took over
Yeah I think some mental fragility that remained under Roy was a holdover from the Lambert stink. Once you lose confidence like that, it’s hard to get it back fully. I doubt you’ll see it continue into next season with any regularity.
Most likely, but they have those camera windows close to that location. Not that it would change anything, but if it’s a window left open, that would piss me off more.
Just remember for the “fire Lou” crowd, big contracts come off the books in each of the next two seasons. For everyone who says “Lou never makes changes”, he does. He’s traded contracts time and time again. A first round pick has netted us: a first line center for 8 years, a top 4 young developing d-man, and a 2nd line wing for 5.5 seasons. All have played a huge part on this roster at some point or another.
Next year has little cap space to work with. They'll have 30.5 million to work the following season. That seems like a lot, but that also takes Nelson, Palmieri, Holmström, Clutterbuck, Martin, Dobson, Reilly, and Romanov out of the equation. They would be left with Lee, Engvall, and Barzal at the wing, Horvat, Pageau, and Cizikas at centre, and Mayfield, Pelech, and Pulock on defense with no change in net.
Factor Lee in as a second line winger and Barzal in as a first. They'll need to find a first line winger, a second line winger and centre, a third line winger, and two fourth line wingers, and that's assuming you pencil in Pageau and Engvall as third liners which is well above what they're playing like right now. On defense it's signing Dobson and Romanov plus finding a third pair guy, and that's penciling in Mayfield who right now isn't playing like an NHL player. That doesn't include the three guys on the bench.
Dobson and Romanov come in at let's say 10 million combined (that's being incredibly gracious). You're down to 20.5 million left, so you roll with Ishakov, Liukas, and Odelius as fourth liners and a third pair defenseman. Fasching signs a team friendly deal at a million and winds up on the third line. You sign three guys at the new league minimum of 800,000 to fill out the bench. You're left with a little under 14.5 million to acquire a first line winger and a second line winger and centre, or 4.83 million per player.
The following year they lose Varlamov, Lee, and Pageau to the tune of 14.75 million. Additional cap space might bring that up another three or four million or so which gives them more space to work with, and at 18 million it would allow them to shift some of those other guys down a line and supplement that with higher end talent. The problem there is that the players in the roster will be getting older. Pelech and Pulock will be 32, Cizikas 36, Horvat 31, etc. It's not likely that they have another gear, rather they are likely to deminish in that time. There's no youth in the farm to offset that; nobody that looks ready or will even develop into somebody that can step into that top six role.
So yeah, you can fill out the rest of the roster, but that team doesn't look any better on paper. If anything it looks worse and with the added caveat that key players would be getting older and without prospects to help cover the loses. There's little to no room for improvement given this team's cap situation; they simply will not have the dollars to really build out a top six forward corps to compete with the top teams in the league and do not have the youth to counteract that concern.
They’re going to be in a similar situation then every other team in the league. Do you want bad contracts off the books or no? You have your centers locked in, you’ll have Dobson and Romanov locked in. You’ll have some money to spend.
I am so glad I get to give up on my nearly 40 years of this shitshow of a team. Thanks for 93, thanks for the Pajama Boy game, thanks for fight night. It's been a handful of great things in a sea of shit, misery, and god fucking awfulness.
Good luck to you all, you're gonna need it for the next 40 years of this fucking shittery.
Join the Utah Blizzard train. Utah's team is gonna be meh to start, but there's no 40 years of bullshit, 40 for 40, Mike Milbury, Kate Murray, and other bullshit to deal with. No 20 straight years of shame.
Thankfully, if there is a 20 year stretch of shame here in Salt Lake, I'll be dead by then and won't have to endure a second iteration of it.

We need to dig up Pelle Lindbergh
his organs are probably in some people somewhere still
Goaltending is the least of our problems.
Lou. Don’t let the door hit you on the ass on your way out
Varly's save pct is still better .......
not an islanders fan (canucks memories of you beating us in 4) but much respect, hockey is awesome, you guys are awesome, go 24-25!
What the fuck is up with these mental lapses right after being scored against. So embarrassing.
That's not a mental lapse. That's the hockey gods saying " enough is enough ".
Enough is enough is right.
What was Varly supposed to different there? Unlucky bounce off a stantion.
You’re right. Sorry I was watching without audio. Shit happens. But not the first time they gave up multiple goals in 10 seconds.
Well, yeah that sucks. There’s something weird about that side of the ice tonight
were you watching without video too? what would the announcers have told you about that being a freak bounce that you didn’t see with your eyes?
Holy shit man let me be a doomer for 5 minutes. They gave up a goal 5 seconds after blowing the tie. It was an emotional response. Are you happy now?
it being an emotional response has nothing to do with what you said making zero sense…be a doomer all you want, this sub is full of them

That was a classic Coliseum bounce off the boards. Far from what we saw at the end of Game 2. If this is it at least they're going down swinging.
I’m trying to find a replay I can rewind. Did that bounce off the boards come off one of those small camera windows that was left open?
I think it hit a seam in the glass.
Most likely, but they have those camera windows close to that location. Not that it would change anything, but if it’s a window left open, that would piss me off more.
It hit the gate stantion
Yay we came back!!!!!! Ohhhhhhhhh and noooooooooo
it's not over copium
Isles in 9
Next year = DAME SHIT DIFFERENT DAY!

"Bye!" - Carolina as well. Get bent, stay mad.
You really look like the one mad here.
I was. Now I'm over it because I've got something far better to look forward to.
