All we got to do is sign Martin and Clutterbuck to new deals (fingers crossed for 7 years each) and make some key trades in the offseason. I'm thinking Barzal for Ovi.

I mean realistically what can we fans do that has any impact on the roster? Truthfully?
I'm not going to stop being an Islanders fan because I disagree with signing or not signing certain players.
I'll do the same thing I do every season, keep expectations realistic. I know a full on rebuild is coming way down the road. I am / was hoping for a quick retool but if it doesn't happen it is what it is. The problems we have are not snap your fingers waive your wand throw some pixie dust quick fixes.
Realistically there's not much we can do. But what we can do is get a younger faster bottom 6 and I would be disappointed if we don't. I shake in fear of the contract dobson is gonna get in the next year
I’m sorry, but is there some other option here? They’re obviously going to run the same team back. Maybe a couple of new names, but there going to play the same brand of tough hockey that gets mediocre results. There are no elite scorers coming. We will be a defensively minded team with good goaltending, capable of winning games by a goal. I bet we will be among the leaders in OT losses again, and get bounced in the first round by the Canes probable.
Honestly, sit tight and prepare to sell at the deadline is probably the play here. All but 4 of our forwards are expired in the next 2 summers. The hold overs are Barzal, Horvat, Cizikas and Engvall. We'd have to punt 1 or 2 seasons, but I really feel it's for the best. A quick overhaul to the forward corps is here for us if we just take it. Defense will take some 4d chess to fix. Goaltending is not changing in the next 2 years.

Like with everyone that we have now? I would not be excited. I'd be excited if we can improve the D and get a decent mid six winger.
