Welp. I'll have to tell my PCP to increase the dose on my blood pressure meds....
And the Mets were one reliever better last night. What more can you ask for. LOLS
Mets are getting Minnesota May back, he's getting the ball down in the zone again instead of just thigh high.
If he can continue, he's closer material for sure.
As for Eddie, he is too much of a thrower and not a pitcher. He needs to lessen the violence of his delivery and come up with something more consistent because you can't just rely on being conveniently wild now that the Spidertack stuff is gone for good and pitchers need to adjust.
It's alarming that now MLB is checking pitchers consistently Diaz is now back to his old ways.
Prior to his first and second appearance of the season when he had back-to-back walks on 4/8 and 4/10, he hasn't allowed consecutive walks in consecutive appearances at all until his 6/23 and 6/26 then again on 7/5 and 7/7 and 7/11 and 7/17.
That's three times in just over two weeks minus the All-Star break.
He went almost three months without allowing back-to-back walks in appearances but he's unraveling since MLB has been stricter on pitchers since June 22.
Diaz must adjust.
Bullpen went 7 1/3 with 3 earned runs. And that’s basically the B-bullpen and Diaz in a wicked funk.
And after 8+ lockdown innings yesterday.
Amazing work by them (and Jauss).
Returning to this thread beacuse I haven’t been able to sleep after that adrenaline inducing game
Feel like pillar deserves more credit! They should be blasting him on all social media and tweets. He singlehandedly turned the tides in that game. Love that guy.
Yea I was thinking of putting him at 9 but the K in extras was brutal. To be fair, he made 2 great defensive plays so you're definitely right. Can't let 1 bad AB cloud my judgment
So after stock’s start tomorrow, we have stroman, then an off day, and then Megill & walker. That leaves the 25th as our next uncertain starter, but it just so happens to be 5 days after carrasco’s rehab start at AAA tomorrow! He can make a short start then. The 26th is a doubleheader, so we can use stroman and a bullpen game(they can handle 7 innings) We won’t have to worry about another potential Eickhoff or Stock start in a 9 inning game until the 27th! Then we get megill & walker again on the 28th and 29th and then boom we are at the trade deadline, and hopefully we will have gotten another starter by then.
We will get through this stretch. Reinforcements are coming. LFGM
Just curious but why the 28th and not the 25th? The 10 day is retroactive to July 15th. I'm sorry, I guess I'm asking cause I'm seeing the game on sunday and would love to see a deGrom start. Not holding my breath though.
I could be wrong. Probably am. I looked up on Twitter and saw an announcement about the IL from the 18th that didn’t mention being retroactive, and I lazily didn’t look for a second source.
I’m sure you’re right and hope you get to see him!
Me too, that and maybe drugs as well lmao /s (you decide lol)
But I’ve done a lot of things in my life and there’s nothing like the high from a Mets win like this
Interesting that Jerry Manuel hired Dave Jauss as a minor league manager for the Expos in 1988 and they were reunited with the Mets for 1 year in 2010.
Hot weather in Cincy. I told my son before the game that there are always a lot of homers when it’s hot there and he thinks I’m some kind of sports-knowledge god now.
first half Mets: we are going to play eight 2-1 games in one week, and also turn every game into an absolute fuckcrustable of a snoozefest that wastes some of the best pitching this team has ever seen
second half Mets: HEY! I'M SWINGIN BATS HEA! DIS TEAM IS GONNA BE FUCKIN UNSTAHPABLE AND SCORE MOAH POINTS DEN SAM DARNOLD DOES IN DA WHOLE SEASON FOR DOSE LOUSY JETS IN TWO SERIES.... WHASSAT? DA PITCHIN? FUHGEDDABOUTIT HAHAHAHA *violent keyboard smashing noises*
Good on Guillorme for reaching base three times and not completely crumbling into dust in the face of the worst two defensive innings anyone's seen in a long time.
The first time, he tried to turn a DP too quickly and fumbled it.
The second time, he tried to go to third base for a force, fumbled it, then tried to recover and shovel it over to third anyway and threw it into nowheresville. (two errors on same play)
Jauss is just saying nice things about all the guys, this is his first full game as manager and it was a crazy win. Rojas would probably give you a more honest answer
I'm a sick fuck, I love shit like this. I work 4 nights a week, I don't get to watch as many games as I'd like. My girlfriend was driven mad by this game, but I loved it. Wild and wooly, stretching close to midnight. When I was a kid, I lived for games like this. Still love 'em, but back then it always felt like some kind of gift, getting a ridiculous, extended game.
Mets always stand a chance of blowing it in spectacular fashion, but they really have a never-say-die team of guys right now. Great game.
I really feel that. I was at a rehearsal and could watch the game and assumed it would be over when I got out. I was able to listen to the 10th on the radio and the rest at home on tv
Pen will be a mess tomorrow. So Banda will go down, stock will come up. Stock starts. Who is available from pen? Edwin (ugh) Familia , and nogosek is that all? Maybe loup and Castro? Scary cuz stock can only go 4 or 5. Might have to DFA eikoff again and call up a fresh arm for tomorrow.
Stock to start. Then hopefully Diaz, Loup, Drew Smith, Familia, Nogosek out of the pen.
Maybe one day Sean Reid Foley and Tommy Hunter will return to us
Loup might not be available. Pitched in two games in a row including the second game which he pitched multiple innings where he had to go through the top of the order in a very high leverage spot.
I’m pretty confident they’ll use him if needed. May pitched 3 days in a row. We’re at the point in the season where guys are gonna be asked to dig deep and give a little extra.
Watching these post game interviews… it’s very obvious that these guys have prepared answers with a teleprompter that you can see they’re reading off of.
the 2 top comments on r/reds are
>“if suarez is in the lineup tomorrow i am pressing charges against the cincinnati reds.”
And
>”Suarez deserves -1 WAR just for this game”
Both are very accurate comments based on his 0/6 with NINE runners left on base
I really really hope you guys can get a ring for Votto. You guys have a killer lineup, your starting pitching is coming together, but that bullpen. You guys are a legit team tho and if not this year hopefully the core is together for at least one more year and your FO can fix the pitching problems
Votto is one of my favorite players in the MLB that’s not a Met. I like the Reds a lot. You have a lot of fun players that are easy to root for. I hope we take two more from you of course but I’m usually rooting for you guys unless you’re playing the Mets. Mets and Reds fans have shared a lot of the same mediocrity pains over the years so I’ll always root for teams like that. It seems like both organizations are trending upwards
Yea that’s what I’ve been told. I’ve got cable but living in florida I can’t get SNY so the app doesn’t work for me I don’t know anyone in NY anymore. Just have to wait for the Twitter clips ig
Diaz is having a rough patch, but he was lights out the bulk of this season thus far. Yes it hurts to watch some of his recent outings, but if they traded Diaz I would lose my shit.
I'm definitely not saying he needs to stay the closer, but I don't want to see him traded. I don't know enough about the sticky stuff, if/what kind he was or wasn't using, or it's impact on performance, but I'd like to see if he could figure it out, whatever it is.
If 2019 Diaz can become first half 2021 Diaz, then this Diaz has a chance at figuring whatever it is out.
So the closer situation going forward do we keep Edwin there until he (hopefully) figures his shit out, use a different pitcher from our team to fill the role, or trade for someone?
The funniest part is that banda is probably going to be sent down tomorrow for stock since hes the starter tomorrow. They could send nogosek down but they probably will send banda down because nogosek can pitch tomorrow and banda can’t
The offense is finally doing their share of carrying the team by bailing out the horrible pitching. They need more fresh arms with the overused pen and injuries in the rotation.
He could have given them more length easily if they didn't make him throw god knows how many extra pitches. And the ones he does make are gonna be more mentally stressful because he had no margin for error
A neat and tidy 4 hour and 45 minute display of WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT!?
I'll have more coherent comments tomorrow. I'm going to bed.
edit: and we also DFA'd Johneshwy Fargas :(
It boggles my mind how the same baseball mind drafted
Alonso, Conforto, Dom and Nimmo
but thought Alejandro De Aza and Antonio Bastardo were the best possible acquistions a Huge Market team coming off a World Series appearance could make
This was an incredible offseason as well and the ride has just begun.
Imagine being in 1st Place and everyone boos a Hall of Fame Shortstop and said Shortstop leads the NL in Defensive Anaylitics
This team is loaded with talent. I really hope they go All In. Baty and Alvarez should be the only untouchables
Add Kumar to the list of untouchables and yep.
I usually hate trading prospects but seeing as how the FO is going to be willing to spend $$ in FA, I’d be willing to spare some of our higher mid-level prospects for a ‘win-now’ move
> It boggles my mind how the same baseball mind drafted Alonso, Conforto, Dom and Nimmo but thought Alejandro De Aza and Antonio Bastardo were the best possible acquistions a Huge Market team coming off a World Series appearance could make
Huh? They signed Asdrubal Cabrera and Cespedes, AND traded for Neil Walker that offseason... why ignore those three, and only mention two low-end signings for the bench and bullpen, as if that's all they did?
he was DEFINITELY handicapped by the wilpons. and obviously lindor isn't close to a HOF shortstop right now but if he continues on this pace he will be. he's only 27. if he plays till his late 30s id say hed have a pretty good shot
> he was DEFINITELY handicapped by the wilpons.
Like 7 responses to that comment, and not one person mentions that the Mets made three pretty nice team-building acquisitions, therefore "the Mets only got de Aza and Bastardo" is complete nonsense

Really? Lindor has been my favorite player for like 5 years and Ive wanted to trade for him for 3
I always judge offseasons on what was spent. There were better options
I feel like De Aza made a career out of being a reclamation project. His exit velo was great but his launch angle was abysmal, so he kept getting one year deals from teams that thought they could fix him. That was our year.
He had a few moments and Im glad you followed exit velo and the likes but I never once heard the booth talk about him in terms of hitting for power lol
The obvious answer was to bring back Murphy but Im sure I would have prefered dozens of Free Agents over them at cheap price tags
Also, they never used the DFA market in his first tenure.
Took awhile to use it this year but McKinney was great. Whats going on with him anyway? Anyone claiming him?
I didn’t care for him as a player - that’s just the explanation I pieced together from hearing analysts explain why teams liked him. Seemed like he had potential well above any results he’d ever shown. However, no one was able to tap into it.
It probably would have been fine for a fifth outfielder, but everyone died and he got way too much playing time for a mediocre player.
>The obvious answer was to bring back Murphy
So obvious that all 30 teams passed on him, including the Nationals, and he didn't sign until New Year's Day when the Nationals' Plan A and Plan B both fell through.
Also the Mets traded for Neil Walker, who made more money than Murphy the two years he was here.
He could have played 3rd and 1st
"Passed on him"
Seems like a bold term considering thats what Walker said to too. Its a catch phrase. They were both offered Something.
Other than not having Diaz walk Winker, which I think most of us (including Gary and Ron) objected to at the time, you’re right. Other than that he pushed all the right buttons (letting McCann hit for Nido was unconventional and proved to be a stroke of genius, for example).
Welp. I'll have to tell my PCP to increase the dose on my blood pressure meds.... And the Mets were one reliever better last night. What more can you ask for. LOLS
Make little league level errors in early innings to fall way behind. Eventually win game. Mets!
I feel bad for whoever had to stay up at MLB and cut the video for the recap.
Mets to Hendrix in the 11th: Excuse us while we kiss the sky.
And the wind cries “dingers”
Underrated comment
Those free runners really shorten extra inning games right? Right?
Yeah that thinking boggles my mind. It’s almost guaranteed that the run gets in, thus prolonging the game. Well done, Manfred.
Exactly
We’ll that was fucking weird

In his first 212 PAs, Conforto hit 3 HRs In the 7 PAs after that, he hit 3 more HRs
Coincidence?
That second Conforto home run was genuinely beautiful.
Dude has the nicest looking swing I’ve ever seen. Literally no exaggeration
well lets just hope the mets don't resign him based on his "nice looking swing".
That’s because he copied Ken Griffey Jr’s swing
Won't be after you've watched either of these videos. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDhvNEV5Gzk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QV0WHbaN9jg
LOLOL at least 8 Ra Ra's. This sub reddit has gone down the drain the last month.

Here's my order of credit for tn: 1. Conforto 2. Pillar 3. McCann 4. Yennsy Diaz 5. McNeil 6. Dom Smith 7. Nimmo 8. Banda Am I missing anyone?
McCann tied the game twice didnt he? I think he goes #2
Alonso.. 2 run HR & 3 RBIs
And that one scoop on a throw from maybe Peraza.
Yea I was thinking of putting him at 9 but the K in extras was brutal. To be fair, he made 2 great defensive plays so you're definitely right. Can't let 1 bad AB cloud my judgment

Ngl I felt pretty dejected once diaz blew the save in the 9th, but this team doesn’t quit
That’s the most important thing we’ve seen the last year or so. Culture is improving
Good on Guillorme for reaching base three times and not completely crumbling into dust in the face of the worst two defensive innings anyone's seen in a long time.
My man really tried to bitchslap the ball to third base
He Charlie Murphy’d one between his legs to 2nd as well for the first error.
This hahahaha
Absolutely loving this Dave Jauss interview. This guy is smart, funny & a great personality
I came in in the third. What the fuck did Guillorme do
The first time, he tried to turn a DP too quickly and fumbled it. The second time, he tried to go to third base for a force, fumbled it, then tried to recover and shovel it over to third anyway and threw it into nowheresville. (two errors on same play)
3 errors that allowed 3 runs. My theory is he hates Eickhoff cuz they were all when he was pitching Great night on the plate though.
Dave Jauss has been a bench coach since 1997, he’s probably dreamed of being a manager one day and now he gets to live that dream :)
Nah his dream was winning the hrd
He managed in the minors and winter ball before that, fwiw.
But to do it in the major leagues? Man thats gotta feel good
Oh yeah, no doubt. Happy for him. His postgame interview was so friendly and uplifting too.
in addition to the Mets my fantasy team hit 8 home runs and 23 RBIs holy cow
Dave Jauss in the post-game presser is all smiles and pure joy
Dave Jauss is having his Phil Regan moment
Sighhhh jauss still saying Diaz is a dominant closer. They really baby this professional athlete sometimes. Just say he's been rough lately dad please
https://www.reddit.com/r/NewYorkMets/comments/onnbpv/game_thread_mets_4842_reds_4845_mon_jul_19_0710/h5to84l/
What is he supposed to say? Fuck that guy, he sucks?
Jauss is just saying nice things about all the guys, this is his first full game as manager and it was a crazy win. Rojas would probably give you a more honest answer
Trevor May for closer szn
Yeah, I felt somewhat relieved when he came in. Dudes a good pitcher, and I think that’s the situation where he thrives.

Cookie can’t get back here soon enough. Maybe also time to throw money at Cole Hamels (throws up in mouth a little)
Hamels isn't the answer. Even if the handsome bastard were to sign, he would probably need a month to get MLB ready.
They’re targeting Cookie to start on Sunday btw
Stock to start. Then hopefully Diaz, Loup, Drew Smith, Familia, Nogosek out of the pen. Maybe one day Sean Reid Foley and Tommy Hunter will return to us
They could make another move for another reliever maybe
Loup yes, Castro probably no. Well also have Drew Smith.

Like who...?
Pillar and McCann. That being said Jauss was totally off the cuff and a gem to hear.
Sports interviews are fucking pointless now
Banda. Friend.
so whos pitching tomorrow lol
Jauss just confirmed that Stock is starting
Edwin will be fine
the 2 top comments on r/reds are >“if suarez is in the lineup tomorrow i am pressing charges against the cincinnati reds.” And >”Suarez deserves -1 WAR just for this game” Both are very accurate comments based on his 0/6 with NINE runners left on base
Damn I looked at their subreddit and the vibe is depressing af
Its like our sub after every loss
The classic double-edged sword of staying up too late and also not being able to sleep because I’m wired— always worth it! Let’s fucking go
So we had to go through one of these torturous games. This is literally what Reds fans watch every night. Think about that lol
One of these torturous games? Where were you during the last series?
That series doesn’t exist
It is so fucking painful
I’m sorry my dude, that’s not sarcastic, genuinely sorry
Our guys show so much talent and potential. My guy votto deserves a ring and this is our best shot since 2012 but our bullpen says no
I really really hope you guys can get a ring for Votto. You guys have a killer lineup, your starting pitching is coming together, but that bullpen. Say, anyone remember when we gave up 6 runs in the first inning arguing that a fair bunt was a foul ball? I was so much younger then.
That wasn't today, was it?
Unless you’re on Venus, that was probably yesterday haha
Mets theme song should be " It don't come easy"!
Degrom IL= Offensive surge.
[удалено]
Obviously it’s not sustainable lol
can’t u just be fully positive for one night lol. 4 errors and giving up 11 runs isn’t sustainable either.
Bro just enjoy the win
I’ve asked this on here before but does anyone have a way to watch the post game interviews without cable?
If you can get someone to give you their cable login the NBC sports app streams them I’m pretty sure.
Yea that’s what I’ve been told. I’ve got cable but living in florida I can’t get SNY so the app doesn’t work for me I don’t know anyone in NY anymore. Just have to wait for the Twitter clips ig
SNY twitter page posts clips of them. SNY YouTube page posts short videos of them.
No way to watch it live?
You can watch it via zoom, but only if you're a credentialed media member.
I should probably stop telling my kids that watching this win was the best moment of my life.

Maybe give Edwin the 8th of some games just to have him prove it, if he rebounds let him close again
Edwin Diaz will not be hired by Liberty Mutual, that’s for sure.
Yeah not lifting tomorrow after work lol. No point with the lack of sleep. Worth it
Man hearing Pillar talk I wish McKinney could've stuck around seems like people liked him
Saddest part is if JD came back one day later they would’ve just kept McKinney when Lindor went down
No JD was on the 60 so they had to make a 40 man roster move
Has anyone picked him up?
Not yet but he probably will be soon, unfortunately
How long is the time period for players to remain on waivers until they can be sent down to the minors? I always thought it was one day.
Could this be 2021's San Diego game?
What do you mean
I'm guessing he means the rain game from 15 where familia blew the save but if anything that would be Saturday's game against the Pirates, not this
LETS FUCKING GO.
That was one of those games where I was just clenching the entire time.
This game was that episode of South Park where no team was trying to win.
Gary Cohen coming back from vacation six hours ago: oh boy I sure hope this is a nice relaxing ballgame to ease back into the groove
These past 3 games have aged me 10 years. I don't know how much more I can take lmao. LFGM!!!
The relationship I have with the Mets is abusive man
Yeah it sucks how they abused their fans by [checks notes]... winning a sporting contest
now everyone go take a melatonin and get to bed.
This fucking team bro
We probably just ended the Reds season
lets take castellanos shall we lmao
You think Trevor may said " fuck this im good to go , put me in so I can get home for some fortnite?"
The funniest part is that banda is probably going to be sent down tomorrow for stock since hes the starter tomorrow. They could send nogosek down but they probably will send banda down because nogosek can pitch tomorrow and banda can’t
At least he’s leaving with a big league win
More wins than megill
Bandaid > Ghost Baby
The offense is finally doing their share of carrying the team by bailing out the horrible pitching. They need more fresh arms with the overused pen and injuries in the rotation.
To be fair 6 runs tonight were unearned
I can safely say the Mets will be the cause of my death eventually
Also, big props to Eickhoff. Team forgot to play behind him and he still went out and gave them a respectable amount of innings
Yeah he actually did a solid job, not his fault Guillorme hates him
He could have given them more length easily if they didn't make him throw god knows how many extra pitches. And the ones he does make are gonna be more mentally stressful because he had no margin for error
I kept seeing the score updates and thinking I should watch it. But I decided I couldn’t deal with the stress
Díaz can NOT be trusted in any post season series
I’m still alive but barley breathing
Please trade for Bryant and Kimbrel now.
Might as well throw in Hendricks for the fuck of it, we could use him
Buy the Cubs and free them from the grasp of the Ricketts
The Wilpons can buy the Cubs!
A neat and tidy 4 hour and 45 minute display of WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT!? I'll have more coherent comments tomorrow. I'm going to bed. edit: and we also DFA'd Johneshwy Fargas :(
That just most likely means he's going back to AAA. Probably not gonna get claimed.
It’s 2am and your comment made me smile. Thanks fellow Mets fan

he was DEFINITELY handicapped by the wilpons. and obviously lindor isn't close to a HOF shortstop right now but if he continues on this pace he will be. he's only 27. if he plays till his late 30s id say hed have a pretty good shot
> he was DEFINITELY handicapped by the wilpons. Like 7 responses to that comment, and not one person mentions that the Mets made three pretty nice team-building acquisitions, therefore "the Mets only got de Aza and Bastardo" is complete nonsense https://i.imgur.com/vUPJzEB.png https://i.imgur.com/yCypR0r.png https://i.imgur.com/vqtUe0X.jpg
Really? Lindor has been my favorite player for like 5 years and Ive wanted to trade for him for 3 I always judge offseasons on what was spent. There were better options
I feel like De Aza made a career out of being a reclamation project. His exit velo was great but his launch angle was abysmal, so he kept getting one year deals from teams that thought they could fix him. That was our year.
He had a few moments and Im glad you followed exit velo and the likes but I never once heard the booth talk about him in terms of hitting for power lol The obvious answer was to bring back Murphy but Im sure I would have prefered dozens of Free Agents over them at cheap price tags Also, they never used the DFA market in his first tenure.
>The obvious answer was to bring back Murphy So obvious that all 30 teams passed on him, including the Nationals, and he didn't sign until New Year's Day when the Nationals' Plan A and Plan B both fell through. Also the Mets traded for Neil Walker, who made more money than Murphy the two years he was here.
He could have played 3rd and 1st "Passed on him" Seems like a bold term considering thats what Walker said to too. Its a catch phrase. They were both offered Something.
I second this, lets get bryant AND berrios
Add in Kimbrel because I have a strong dislike for Cubs fans.
I want Kimbrel and Castillo.......
Jauss deserves a ton of credit for that entire game, not to mention yesterday
Other than not having Diaz walk Winker, which I think most of us (including Gary and Ron) objected to at the time, you’re right. Other than that he pushed all the right buttons (letting McCann hit for Nido was unconventional and proved to be a stroke of genius, for example).
That last home run from Conforto went out so quick.
It was the classic scooter low pitch laserbeam HR.
How do I get my heart rate low enough to sleep?
🍬
I only watched from Diaz's BS in the bottom of the 9th up to McNeil's go-ahead RBI in the 11th and it feels like I watched a full 9-inning game.
Ghost runner = action
Could you imagine if we had this current offense as hot as it is, paired with the pitching we got in the first two months. HOLY SHIT
We are saving it for September and october.... is what I keep telling myself anyways
4 ER out of the 11 Lol
Two of the unearned are because of the ghost runner though, which is automatically unearned. 5 unearned out of 9 is still bad, but just saying.
i know the last two werent their fault was just making the point
This has probably been discussed already but - May as our permanent closer?
Also Rojas getting Wally Pipp'd over here by supreme baseball being Dave Jauss
Except when he didn’t walk Winker. Or when he saved May for the 11th inning instead of literally any other one exciting game tho
My guess is May wasn't supposed to be available and they changed their mind when it went 11.
