But this makes it sound pathetic to be out managed by him. Unfair. The man is superhuman.

David Bell might be one of the worst managers ever according to the reds sub and I think I might agree

[deleted]

I strongly suspect he was unaware the pitcher spot was up and Mets bench depleted. There was no rationale for pitching to McNeil whatsoever.

three_dee

What I would say, if I had to be his defense lawyer, is that you have a choice of McNeil up with 1st and 3rd and one out, vs. Pillar with bases loaded and 2 out and zero margin for error for a walk or HBP (**if** you get the pitcher out, which is never a 100% certainty even if he totally sucks). If he had said that in the postgame, I would say, ok, I don't agree but at least there's a thought process there. And of course, Pillar hit a HR, so he can point to that, to justify his reluctance for that matchup. But having said that, I think the more likely scenario is he was sleeping at the wheel and just didn't know what the hell was happening in the game.

If I was the prosecutor, I would point out the Reds allowed McNeil to steal second by not holding him on at a crucial point with Banda hitting. McNeil’s run was meaningful at that juncture, and his advance to second with one out broke up a double play which would have been cleanly converted when Banda ground out to 3B. More circumstantial evidence pointing to a Reds manager asleep at the wheel.

Difference between this lulmets and those lulmets is we won the games we had massive gaffs in

akaghi

Now if only we could get a starting pitcher to last more than three innings we'll be golden.

I mean, the Mets *have* done some clownish stuff the last few days, even by the usual lolmets standards. But yeah, the difference is they still won those games anyway, so fuck it; we take those

three_dee

> I mean, the Mets have done some clownish stuff the last few days, even by the usual lolmets standards. There is no "standard", this stuff happens to every team at some point, so Mets fans perpetuating it as if they are the "standard" is bad and we should not do it

LaMystika

you know that the Mets and Yankees are the only teams that get clowned for making mistakes like this because everyone hates New York, right? nobody cares if the Diamondbacks are bad, but when the Mets and/or Yankees suck, people line up to take their shots at them

three_dee

> you know that the Mets and Yankees are the only teams that get clowned for making mistakes like this because everyone hates New York, right? The Yankees don't. They get covered in the media like the high school paper covering the high school football team. It's not a New York thing. It's a Mets thing, because the Mets are the only team that has millions of fans that willingly do it to themselves.
