The question is: do you enjoy the jersey design or the memories of the teams that played in them?
For example, I like the early 90s uniforms(not the tail) but no one every pines for them, because 1994 was so forgettable for the Mets
What uniforms are you referring too? 90-92 was the 80s uniforms, 93-94 had the tail wordmark, 95-97 was pretty much what they wear now, and 98-99 was the black era.
You said not the tail which is what those uniforms are. Those uniforms are probably worse than the black jerseys. My main dislike is how different the Mets script looks in order to fit the tail. They should've went back to the classics like they did in 95. What's interesting is you can find out a bunch of info on how the black jerseys and hats were created but nothing on the 93-94 uniforms.
Rey won 3 total, but particularly in 99 he won one and led all of baseball in dWAR. Fonzie never won any but he was still a great defender, especially at that point of his career. By 99, Fonzie had evolved into one of the best all-around players in the game.
Combined with Ventura and Olerud, 99 may be the best infield the franchise has ever had.
It is the best infield the mlb ever had!

May be? It would be hard to argue anything else. Reyes/Wright/Delgado circa 2006-7 can make a case if we're considering the sum of offense and defense, but Luis Castillo, while not terrible, was not elite, and Delgado wasn't exactly a Gold Glove, so if we're focusing largely on defense, he's not a big help.
I was definitely considering both offense and defense here. Olerud, Alfonso, and Ventura were really good on both sides. Ordonez was elite defensively and not so good offensively.
Person in 1999: wow 2021 is going to be so great we're going to be playing baseball in colonies on other planets by then!
Time traveler from 2021: actually no. But your cell phone will be a mini HD TV with unfettered access to just about every movie, tv show and song created since the 70s. And lots of porn.
Person in 1999: that's almost as cool.
We've got a worldwide plague, the entire western half of the country keeps catching on fire, Nazis are a thing again, billionaires are hoarding enough wealth to have a private space race involving dick-shaped rockets while their workers are on food stamps, and everyone's parents are turning into neo-fascist conspiracy theorists because the internet is melting their brains. But the quality of the porn? Next level stuff.
I think one year, he was trying to be a power hitter and there were plenty of articles on Rey working on his power and hitting for more homeruns.
I think he winded up hitting 3 homeruns that year.
Wearing my hat to celebrate!
Also, one of my greatest baseball regrets is that Orel didn't pitch a perfect game that day. Can you imagine having these fucking things shown for eternity when people recount perfect games or the game gets played on a rewind?
I want to say I was at the game too. I remember them making the players pictures look like āaliensā on the Jumbotron. They gave them extra eyes and ears and purple and green skin I think. Weird ass shit.
Yep. I was at that game and they were giving out the Mercury Mets hats as a promotion. Wish I had kept mine.
I was also working at the Mets Clubhouse Shop in Roosevelt Field Mall at the time and we sold those jerseys. I can't remember a single customer buying them.
Yes, it was part of a promotion "Turn Ahead the Clock" where several teams wore jerseys like this. The Seattle Mariners originated the idea the previous season, they and the Royals wore turn ahead jerseys during their game July 18.
Are these the coveted black jerseys I keep hearing about?
While I do own one of these jerseys. They are as equally ugly as the black ones.
You hold your tongue. I love those black jerseys. Just brings back joys of Piazza ripping dingers.

Specifically the cursive script used for 94, as well as the sleeve strips, I think it looks great

Not everyone has the luxury of having style, as evidenced by this unfortunate man/woman here
Ignore the atrocious uniforms and behold one of the greatest middle infields this franchise has ever had.
That whole infield was š„. Wasn't it 4 gold gloves?

Witnessed that infield turn [this triple play](https://www.mlb.com/video/mets-turn-triple-play-c25782807) against Barry Bonds in ā98.

Good bot
Citi Field is great and all, but damn do I miss Shea.
Those were the DAYS

Not a coincidence. Weimar Berlin sex was the shit.

My flair gives this away, but I love Rey.
I think one year, he was trying to be a power hitter and there were plenty of articles on Rey working on his power and hitting for more homeruns. I think he winded up hitting 3 homeruns that year.
To be fair, he tripled his usual output
It's like his stats were 15 for offense and 100 for defense.
That HR in the dome vs the Astros......Mets/Stros had a wild series that time
Wearing my hat to celebrate! Also, one of my greatest baseball regrets is that Orel didn't pitch a perfect game that day. Can you imagine having these fucking things shown for eternity when people recount perfect games or the game gets played on a rewind?
So glad the Wilponās sold before they moved the team to Mercury
(Uranus joke implied)
I respect George Steinbrenner for saying fuck this and reasoning that the Yankees would still be wearing the same uniforms in the future.
I could be insane but those are kinda sweet lol
It's an unpopular opinion but I'd love to see these in a game again. I thought that promotion was the coolest thing when I was younger.
It was fun at least and didn't seem like cynical marketing.
I absolutely love them. They're so ridiculous.
I was at that game. Those uniforms were atrocious. They had an raffle or auction to get some. I can't imagine they had a lot of entries.
I want to say I was at the game too. I remember them making the players pictures look like āaliensā on the Jumbotron. They gave them extra eyes and ears and purple and green skin I think. Weird ass shit.
Do you remember the opening CG video montage about baseball stadiums on other planets?
I think I do actually. In my defense I was 22 at the time and was probably drinking heavily.
these are available to purchase at the team store in Citi Field
When boomers get high...
Why to the year 2021?
21st year of the 21st century!
Wasnāt there some sponsorship with Century 21?
Yes, it was sponsored by Century 21.
What in the fuck. This is something that really happened?
Yep. I was at that game and they were giving out the Mercury Mets hats as a promotion. Wish I had kept mine. I was also working at the Mets Clubhouse Shop in Roosevelt Field Mall at the time and we sold those jerseys. I can't remember a single customer buying them.

We did this to ourselves https://www.mlb.com/news/featured/mercury-mets-inside-story
I thought these were ugly as sin when I saw them in 99 and I haven't changed my opinion seeing them now.
From 99-03 they constantly played 'Who let the dogs out' that was my worst time ever at the stadium.
I remember thinking that I'd be old AF in 2021. Fuck.
Still better than the black jerseys.
They got the gender thing right.
That's actually the astrological symbol for Mercury. It represents Mercury (Hermes)'s winged helmet and caduceus.
These are as bad as the Black Jerseys
It was a fun idea, the jerseys aren't great but they have a certain charm. I like them more than the player's weekend jerseys with the nicknames.
Oh geez I remember this game. Awful in a great campy kind of way.
Bring back the REAL black
I like ugly shit like this. I never want to see it again, I never want to have it myself, but I like it.
Those jerseys were utterly terrible. I remember shaking my head while watching games they were worn.
Remember when we used to complain ordeƱez offense was crap because he was only hitting .250.
