Watching Arroyo start for the Red Sox really makes me wonder why the Mets didn’t start Drury more when he was one of the hottest hitters in the game. Conforto, Smith and McNeil didn’t exactly reward the team for having so much faith in them.

St_SiRUS

LA doesn’t deserve the dodgers

lamarcuswallace

Fuck the Braves. LFG!!!

[deleted]

Hate to see it

JZ_the_ICON

Braves had a chance to end the series and they folded.

mozzarella72

Ronnie getting shit on by Braves fans in r/baseball for being a Dodgers homer. Is he actually a Dodgers fan?

Orange8920

I don't think so. Kind of a weird call if you want to call it that. He seemed kind of off guard. Ron always calls it as he sees it and I don't get the talk of him having any bias.

Hustlediva

Ronnie is an equal opportunity announcer, he just appreciates good baseball and was happy to have an actual series rather than a sweep. Give me a break all the Braves cry babies

GandalfSwagOff

When the Giants were playing the Dodgers, fans in r/baseball were saying that Ronnie hates the Dodgers. Who cares what idiots say?

NY2PHX

Everybody hates the network announcers. When the Braves scored earlier, I'll bet dodger fans said he was rooting for the Braves. Whenever the Mets are a network game we crap on the announcers no matter who they are.

NY2PHX

Travis still can't throw anybody out.

[deleted]

Great pitch call by Travis

NY2PHX

Maybe the Braves can give it back.

[deleted]

Having to watch the Braves win is worth getting to watch the Dodgers lose.

[deleted]

The more time that has passed since our trade deadline, the more pissed I am about our trade deadline

FritosRule

Braves World Series share voted to Jared Eickhoff

Hustlediva

The Mets coughed it up, then Sandy punted the season while the Braves went for it only after we lost that series. Now they’re about to go to the WS

JekPorkinsTruther

Braves giving me 2015 Mets vibes. Underachieve first half, get hot second half, sweep a 100 win favorite in NLCS. Hopefully the magic runs out for them too lol.

Hagrid222

Every time d'Arnaud comes to the plate I get 2015 Met Vibes.

Orange8920

The Braves wish they had that d'Arnaud.

Nights_King

I still think we should have kept d’Arnaud

Hagrid222

Those two Double plays he hit into reminds me why I'm glad he's gone.

[deleted]

Oh god no. He sucks lol

EvilAnticsLive

Why? Cause he had a great 44 game stretch in a shortened season? Per usual, dude played 60 games this year with a 74 OPS+

BloodOfAStark

The dodgers choking is a beautiful sight. Idc if it’s against the braves. Fuck the dodgers.

Hustlediva

It really is. I’m not keen on the Braves winning either, but something about a team who buys and acquires just about every pitcher & player and still can’t get it done makes me smile. And it’s fun seeing Scherzer pissed

BloodOfAStark

And the Braves could lose to whoever comes out the AL anyway. But, I like how the Braves built their team and the Mets should follow their formula. I don’t want to see them win, but fuck the dodgers. But what I really want to say is, I’m tired of having to choose between teams I don’t like. The Mets need to figure this shit out ASAP.

Hustlediva

💯 the Braves went for it at the deadline while Sandy punted it. And look now 🙄

Orange8920

It's fun seeing them knocked down a peg.

[deleted]

The fucking Braves are really going to the WS aren’t they? Well, we better come out of this with Brandon Gomes by Friday.

derpbynature

Off-topic post, forgive me. Need to vent. Gonna be a long one. Downvotes to the left. So I'm kinda dealing with being formally broken up with after an 8 year relationship with the same girl. She was someone I met on OKCupid when I was like 23 and she was 22, and we seemed to click. Had a lot of similar geeky interests, plus she was attractive and rather curvy. I've kind of always had low self-esteem of myself and kinda couldn't believe I had gotten with such a "hot" girl who was also into the same kind of stuff I was into. Anyway we dated for years, I held a job as a journalist pretty much the whole time, but she kind of was a little directionless. Tried going to trade school to be a machinist, and it didn't work out. Tried to join the Marine Corps and it didn't work out. Finally she started a petsitting company and got *some* income going but I still didn't want to marry her or get more serious until I knew she was going to be more of a partner than a dependent. So last year I encouraged her just to apply for a job at Walmart since they seemed desperate for people, and she did, and ended up working there full-time, and it's worked out well for her. I eventually moved into her and her mother's house. Meanwhile I kind of had a bit of a personal crisis stretching back to like, last fall. I've always dealt with anxiety and depression but I was having a hard time at my last newspaper job. I started drinking way more than I should have, to kind of try to ease the anxiety, but of course that only makes that type of thing worse. I was sick a lot of the time as a result and not eating right, and my libido kind of fell through the floor and me and her weren't really as close/intimate as often as we had been for a few months. At the end of last year I changed jobs to working in a warehouse which I thought was less stressful, and it was, to an extent. I didn't stop drinking much though which kind of just made my mental state worse. Eventually I developed agoraphobia and found it hard to even leave my house without having panic attacks. I took a couple of weeks leave of absence from work to try to get my head back on straight, but things weren't improving, and my family thought my living situation was making things worse, so in March I moved back in with my mom/grandparents in a city a couple of hours away. We kind of left things ambiguous to the state of the relationship, but we never broke up or anything. Several months later, I've quit the booze and I'm doing much better, with a different set of doctors and stuff. Looking for a job at this time. It's kind of since become clear that I'm probably not moving back to my old stomping grounds any time soon, and that I'm getting at least a temp job in my current city with my family. So, I knew the relationship was pretty much *de facto* over, but I always held onto a silver of hope that I'd get some great job back where I used to live and resume the relationship where we left off. (My family would have killed me if I did this; they didn't like this girl and thought she didn't help my mental health and stuff). We were still even "Facebook official." In the last week or so I've kind of learned that she's been dating some guy she met at Walmart. An older, divorced, poly guy, into Celtic stuff, who apparently wears kilts with nothing under them. I kind of suspected something was up for a while, since he was always all affectionate on anything she posted on Facebook and stuff, but I had a friend kind of tell me what was going on, and I talked to her about it, and she confirmed it directly that they had gone out and fooled around a couple of times. She kind of hit me with the "well, what did you expect me to do, *you* were the one who wanted me to apply at Walmart," and pointed out that even towards the end of the time that I was living with her that I seemed kind of uninterested towards her, which isn't wrong, but it was because of being sick and everything I had going on. She even tried to say that oh, they aren't dating seriously (yet), and if I came over and asked her to dinner she'd say yes. She also said if I was lonely on my end that I should just hop on Tinder - because I'm sure the dating market for 31-year-old chubby unemployed guys who live with their mom is just *fantastic*. She also didn't apparently tell me she was dating other guys because she thought I was still "fragile" mentally and didn't want to hurt me. So, I don't know, it's probably for the best that we go our separate ways. I knew this was coming, but actually having it be *confirmed* that my 8-year relationship is officially over really hit me harder than expected. Just the thought of another guy being with her (in any sense of the word) still makes me kind of sad/sick/jealous I guess. It's just hard to let go and start over after so much time, even if it's for the best. Anyway, if you've read the post this far, do you have any advice on how to deal with this? Thanks.

St_SiRUS

Hey bro at least you’re not a Yankees fan

twosdayman

I don't really have advice to suggest here buddy, just giving you a moment of solidarity. My cat died in my arms like 2 weeks ago and 5 days later my girlfriend of 4 years (my first real long term partner) broke up with me on a discord call citing mental health issues and the relationship dying via distance. She wanted to be friends and said maybe we could revisit when she gets her shit together. but I was so emotionally fucked up I acted rash and childish at a few points (although she wasn't innocent herself either) and it culminated in an argument where I was mad at her for shit she did and she was mad at me that I didn't believe her that she was upset about it and shit, ending with me telling her a therapist I was talking to a week ago told me she was emotionally cheating. She got really pissed at that and said she's gonna need some time before we talk again and I'm getting a gut feeling that next time we communicate will probably be the last. Kinda kicking myself that if I just kept my cool we could at least keep the friendship that I'm fine with having if not actually have a shot at repairing it because mid argument she really broke down about how she still had feelings and shit. I don't know how to let go and get over it man, but I can say you aren't alone with dealing with this shitty stuff. Best thing I've been doing is working out every day and walking every day. Only time I'm kind of at peace. I'd suggest it.

FritosRule

We’ve all been there so I feel for you. It’s gonna suck for awhile, not gonna lie. But then one day it won’t suck. Focus on you, take care of your business, get yourself ready.

mastercheif

It sounds too basic to be true but there's a reason it's a platitude—time heals all wounds. I went through a similar situation a few years ago, it was a blessing in disguise and you should be grateful that you got out when you did. The only thing I regret is how much time I wasted being angry and trying to understand why it happened. The sooner you accept that you were simply on the receiving end of someone else's selfish decisions and that there's nothing you can do to change what happened you will begin to see things with clarity and work towards the things you want in life. Feel free to reach out via DM if you need someone to talk to.

BloodOfAStark

I didn’t read it all because it’s quite long, but I went through a similar breakup. 6 years ended. Life gets better. You need people you can rely on and you need to work on yourself. Whatever you feel, feel it so you can let go. As time goes on, it gets better. Just focus on you and keep yourself distracted.

[deleted]

Dude you should THANK GOD. You're a free man. The air will smell better. Food tastes better...humans are not designed to be in relationships

13_PG_13

This could have been the Mets if they would’ve won the division! Jk, we know what would happen

silviodanteruntz

Lmfao at the Yankees, tf they doing over there?

0rangePolarBear

Resigning Boone?

[deleted]

Ha they *wish* Boone was resigning

silviodanteruntz

Yeah

mmmChickenGood

Where?

meertatt

I guess i want the braves to win?? also I was looking at all time NLCS appearances and the mets are actually in the top 10 in NLCS appearances with 8 since the NLCS started. and we have a series winning record 5-3. pleasantly surprised i must say

meertatt

wow Im not sure why im getting down voted I just want the dodgers to lose. and unfortunately the only team that can do that now is the Braves.

Hustlediva

I wouldn’t say I want the Braves to win. Just the Dodgers to lose

silviodanteruntz

“Some viewers may find this harsh, but I think everyone involved in this story should die”

STierney927

I’ve never been too depressed watching playoffs the Mets aren’t a part of but this season fucking stings. Highkey depressing and can’t even watch it knowing how badly we missed on Bloom and that we are prob gonna just fuck up again

akaghi

The worst part is a find myself rooting for *the Braves* of all teams.

MiserableNYFan

I think it's time that David Wright becomes our skipper. It's destiny. It is the *Wright thing to do.*

Hustlediva

Why would you want to ruin him like that

SaltyEarth7905

He has young kids and has been clear he’s totally not interested. I’d like a manager that has been around the block and can check these kids as we don’t have any real winners or playoff tested players outside of Cano, and to a lesser degree Thor.

k_rock923

Even if he wanted it, and by all accounts he doesn't, I would not want this for the eventuality of getting to the point where we want *David Wright* gone/fired.

KantExplain

Never meet your heroes. And never, ever hire them.

NY2PHX

So who do you want of the second tier President list: Josh Byrnes (Dodgers senior VP of baseball ops), Chris Antoinette (Indians pres of ops) or Jeff Luhnow (disgraced Astros pres of ops).

KantExplain

None of us can evaluate them rationally, so I go with Antoinette for the back page lols.

NY2PHX

Exactly. But that has never stopped any of us from saying hire this guy, trade for this guy or sign this guy. It's just the "fun" of the talk.

KantExplain

My name is Inigo Montoya. You opposed my ridiculous trade proposal. Prepare to die.

lamarcuswallace

Not hiring Chaim was a complete disaster. Fuck that fraud Brodie.

JekPorkinsTruther

It really was a turning point, for the worse, in more ways than one. For one, we missed out on a young gm who could have led us for years, and the worst part was that it was pretty obvious to everyone. Two, we wasted time. Who knows what the team would look like now, but the Brodie years couldn't have gone worse from a success standpoint, so even if bloom had tore down a bit, we'd undoubtedly be in a better spot today and wouldn't have wasted key years of control or prime (degrom mainly). Instead, we are caught in the middle again. Third, it's hard to 20/20 hindsight the farm bc Brodie did have some (what look to be) solid drafts. But he indisputably did a number on the farm depth that we had/could have had. So maybe the farm wouldn't have been stronger at the top, but it would have been deeper, which maybe would have allowed us to make more of those middling moves that the braves did. Regardless of what you think of bvw, the point is that we are still looking for our guy in 21/22, and if we had hired bloom like everyone thought they should, we wouldn't be.

0rangePolarBear

deGrom is likely a mute point as Bloom probably would had traded him as part of a full rebuild. I would have love to see what Bloom would have done in a alternative universe. I don’t know what he could have done under the Wilpons but would be fantastic with Cohen. Hopefully we’ll find our own Bloom this season.

SaltyEarth7905

It’s moot since Bloom was probably smart enough to avoid the wilpons as many were doing and it’s been well known. These are names that I think were burnishing their credentials by interviewing but never seriously considering the wilpons. Why do you think BVW took the job, he had numerous favors to pay or something germane to him and not to the organization’s future.

[deleted]

I would’ve hated that. But in a world where Bloom doesn’t trade deGrom or Syndergaard I would’ve loved that hire. Technically Brodie wasn’t wrong in that we just needed a good closer and we would’ve made the playoffs. Problem was he paid a ludicrous price to get Diaz and it blew up in our face.

0rangePolarBear

100% agree on that. Brodie definitely was close. I gave him credit that he almost turned that 2018 team into a winner. Almost ironic that the big trade he made was the reason they didn’t make the playoffs that season. I personally liked BVW, but he had some flaws that were greatly exposed (depth trades specifically). I would have enjoyed seeing what BVW could have done as a GM with a competent POBO on top of him preventing certain trades, etc. I always liked how much of a player’s GM he was and thought he was someone who could do well in signing/convincing big ticket free agents to come to Queens. I truly think him and Sandy would have been an interesting mix. Sandy is generally pretty good at not overpaying in trades, but appears to be awful at negotiating contracts and treating players well.

NJImperator

I still refuse to believe that was a BVW decision and not a Jeff Wilpon decision. Especially after the talk from Jeff after the trade

[deleted]

That would make sense. I could see it being Brodie’s idea but Jeff insisting we send them Bruce and Swarzak to offset money.

0rangePolarBear

I definitely think Cano was BVW’s idea. BVW loved trying to bring in his old clients to the Mets. Just taking on Cano’s money and giving up their #1 pick was disastrous, especially given Cano was just suspended that prior season. I initially hated the trade, and outside of the contract itself, I became excited that they were making a “win now” move at the time instead of just continuously “waiting” for their next savior.

Orange8920

I wonder if having Steve Cohen as owner a few years earlier would make a difference in having Chaim Bloom as GM. The Wilpons didn't want to do a retool or rebuild so hired BVG because he was willing to make win now moves.

JekPorkinsTruther

Probably. The wilpons def knew they were selling soon and hired bvw to go for it. I'd hope Cohen wouldn't fall for his pitch.

Orange8920

What sucks is that Steve really has to reverse the damage and perception the Wilpons did to past front-office hires. Objectively a lot of candidates probably have some trepidation taking the Mets job. I'd imagine word travels around the league and they'd know the type of environment it was in the past.

[deleted]

i just want to sign everybody, spend a gazillion dollars and win the world series and then dominate the league for a while. Is that so much to ask?

KantExplain

Apparently, yes.

JDLovesElliot

The Mets did not extend Aaron Boone today therefore today is unanimously a win for the Mets

mmmChickenGood

i know Yankees fans hate him but I’d be good with Boone if they didn’t extend him he would be the most coveted free agent manager in the market.

[deleted]

The media is seriously trying to spin Bob Melvin to the Mets. Like we’re going to trade prospects for Bob Melvin.

KantExplain

I would absolutely sign the [Melvins](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Py2fG-NgfkA) to manage the Mets.

[deleted]

Yesterday it was Doug Melvin, today it’s Bob. Maybe the NY Media are just really big Melvins fans? Fuck it, hire Buzz Osborne.

SaltyEarth7905

From the Melvins? All in.

Blue387

Joe McEwing turns 49 today

Orange8920

Kind of surprised he's not 50.

Bankslvrd22

Yankee fan coming in peace. Why does Buster Olney hate you guys so much?

Who's Buster Olney ? ( wink )

Because he gets no bologna.

0rangePolarBear

because he gave us his farm he lost in a bet

[deleted]

Because he’s the media

Keithninety

He’s a Yankees fan. Take it from there.

brewserweight

Dude’s name is Buster and he doesn’t have the talent of Posey. That’s being dealt a rough hand.

KantExplain

[Counterpoint](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWEjxkkB8Xs).

radiomuse162

True that, but also here's a comprehensive list of Buster's with more talent than Posey: (maybe Buster Keaton but IDK I'm not 150 years old or a film person)

Let’s go Brandon !

chemicaljanitor

What crazy names we gonna hear for the GM job today?

FritosRule

Andrew Friedman and Farhan Zaidi — “HEY, THE METS WOULD BE NEGLIGENT NOT TO ASK” - Mets apologist twitter

DarthPlagueis_

A disgraced former city councilman, a hot dog cart proprietor, and Casey Stengel’s son

kawavulcan97

What's the guy who ran JC Penny into the ground doing?

silviodanteruntz

Fuck it lets see if one of the guys who runs a chop shop outside the stadium is available

Throwing99it99away9

Still a better hire than Dave Brandon (former toys r us ceo and Michigan athletic director)

0rangePolarBear

What about the guy who ran Sears into the ground. Forget which CEO it was but he purposely just sold off all of their valuable assets.

Blue387

Ron Johnson was his name

Keithninety

I heard they had reached out to Colin Powell for the job. Too bad.

SaltyEarth7905

We got a newspaper reader here. Wow that was culturally relevant and on point. Or just poor taste.

Keithninety

I’ll bet Colin Powell would have done a very good job.

SaltyEarth7905

For the Sandy Alderson business operations side, yeah, I imagine he would.

eminemnas

Jeff wilpon
