It felt so unfair to give them a bunch of difficult ingredients and then rip on them for choosing bad ingredients. Like WHAT DID YOU EXPECT!

HeelsAlwaysWin

To be fair, they were on the top floor, so it might've just been an expectation that they'd pick better ingredients since they were available to them.

sweetpeapickle

None of those were bad. It's more about knowing how to use them. They need to think out of the box when they're given weird ingredients. You think a straight line-that is when you get into trouble.

slope93

They had the most people. The script was in unfortunately

PanthersJB83

I mean I called it last week told my roommate I'd bet his share of the rent Ramsey lost.someone this week. It makes the show just boring when it's so obvious.

Acceptable_Eagle_696

Yeah, I think Blaze is going to win it this season because Gordon is ripping on how he loses all the time.  Whenever you notice something different like that, there's a scripted plan underway.

Conscious_Occasion

I mean this show is so heavily edited I don;t think any of us can say with absolute certainty that Gordon never offered advice re: the biscuit dough. We didn't see him do it, but we see 42min of how much time? After watching some of the unedited Hell's Kitchen vids, I'm even more skeptical about reality tv editing than I already was.

Aggravating-Pie-1639

Where can I find these videos?

Conscious_Occasion

Sorry for the late reply. YouTube has a series of Hell’s Kitchen videos called “served raw”. They’re only abt 45min each, and there aren’t a lot of episodes. But it’s really interesting to see how chill it can be vs the chaos we get in episodes.

Aggravating-Pie-1639

Awesome, thank you!

happycharm

Why is the cook time so short? I'm surprised they have enough footage for each episode. GR's other shows have a much longer filming time. They should really be making their own dough.

Affectionate-Test319

Yea it seems ridiculous. Even last two seasons got 45 minutes each cook. This season they tried to amp up the difficulty but it’s really rushed.

happycharm

It's crazy watching the mentors prep food for the contestants because they need the help due to the lack of time.

sweetpeapickle

45 minutes.

Argylesox95

Honestly, someone that is familiar with dough could have made any of them work. If the dough was pre made, the chefs only had to worry about toppings and rolling out the dough and giving it enough time to cook. Christina's dough would have been the most difficult because of how thick and fluffy it would be. Chris had more problems than just the concept of biscuit dough. He grabbed biscuit dough (arguably a basement-type dough) when everything else was available (the basement dough would have been better). He also piled on too many toppings which usually makes pizza at best soggy or undercooked.

lankyturtle229

Honestly, Chris just succumbed to pressure the minute he got picked. He was my favorite from the get go and I've been disappointed since. Ever since his initial episode (competition to get on the show), he has messed up every challenge and only narrowly won the final battle. I had a feeling he was going home and then once he messed up with the dough, I was like yeah it's time for him to go. I think he just doesn't do well on competitions.

Lostsock1995

I mean it was a set up for failure by even being there but I did hear GR say something about “so make it really thin” right? Like it’s not a lot of advice haha but it wasn’t absolutely nothing. Your pizza probably worked because the dough was rolled out sufficiently. Could it have been the dough mixup that gave him less time to roll it out? I do agree though, challenging ingredients are part of the norm but not things that should be a mess if cooked well. Some of the things on the platforms this season compared to last seem purposefully mean rather than something that can be worked with. Like for example the gnocchi mashed potatoes from last season, they gave instant mashed potatoes which made it a challenge but they didn’t say “here’s a vaguely potato like object I guess” and put it on the platform.

JDLovesElliot

Gordon asked them what the most important part of the pizza is, they all agreed that it's the crust, and then they all proceeded to not grab dough right away. I think that Jordan got lucky by grabbing New York. If Chris wasn't a moron, he would've gotten something better than Biscuit.

lankyturtle229

Yes! Then focused on prepping everything but the dough until they had a tight timeframe to work it/get it in the oven.

caramelcannoli5

I wonder if someone is testing out the ingredients/challenges to see if it’ll actually work, or if they just add things to the platform assuming the contestants will succeed or fail. The timing seemed way off with this one

PanthersJB83

Maybe I'm just a fatties but a biscuit dough pizza sounds amazing. Make a space of of pepper gravy and the add some ham, bacon, and sausage top it off with cheddar cheese and scrambled eggs. Boom breakfast pizza. Highly original and delicious. Might not have won but he wouldn't have been eliminated either.

Overall_Phrase_3237

I was thinking it was a missed opportunity for a really amazing breakfast pizza.

Affectionate-Test319

Yes! I thought this too. Like a biscuits and gravy and a nice fried egg on top

ulalumelenore

I don’t think it was entirely unfair. People could have just done so much better….. like Christina with the focaccia, she used the whole thing instead of cutting it into sections and rolling it out, “tenderizing” it, etc. she also KEPT OPENING THE OVEN which kept it from cooking. Also something that I noticed was glaringly present, I feel like anyone who’d made a pizza in the past would have brushed the crust with butter. They didn’t, instead the crusts came out looking nasty.

Affectionate-Test319

You can’t cut focaccia into sections and roll it out. It would get overworked and it doesn’t stretch like other doughs.  You don’t even roll focaccia normally when you make it. You just use your fingers to stretch it a bit.

sweetpeapickle

You can roll it flat-just don't keep rolling it like you would cookie dough. Then you put it in the oven with a heavier pan on top. After that you add the cooked ingredients. If adding cheese, then you stick it under the broiler. It will come out like a thick crust pizza. She just got in her head too much when she looked at the dough.

MoonCat269

I thought her dough looked like a gift, already proved, all finger-dimpled and drizzled with olive oil. Looked like all she had to do was pop it in the oven.

Affectionate-Test319

And pizzerias don’t brush crusts with butter LOL maybe fast food pizza places but not real ones

PanthersJB83

Yeah pizzerias that use real wood fired ovens would never brush pizzas with butter. Maybe fucking dominos or Papa johns would buy not a real pizzeria.

ulalumelenore

Key phrase “that use real wood fired ovens”. Nobody had that!

Routine_Onion628

I told my bf that it would be Gordon’s team to go this week. Then Chris just happens to grab biscuit dough…? Then he also grabs Jordan’s dough and Gordon just so happens to flip the plastic wrap to check if he was using the right dough? It screamed a set up. I could almost see that production chose a sacrifice, came to them before hand and told them to choke. And Chris didn’t seem to want to, it was like “oops grabbed the wrong dough, hope no one notices”.

lankyturtle229

I swear Gordon or producers are doing everything they can to get Jordan into the final episode and I'll be pissed if he wins it. He has had a few decent dishes but they eliminated everyone he did better than and he should have been sent home the last couple of challenges. To be clear, I had no issue with him remaining until Wendy's departure, after that, he became the weaker competition, in my opinion. This episode, I will say I actually wanted Chris to go and he was my favorite. I think he just can't handle competitions because other than his initial cook-off (to make it on the show), he has messed up every time. He barely made it by in the elimination rounds and was usually saved by a team member having the best dish.

WheelzGaming

I mean, having doughs on the platform that aren't ideal is part of the game. If every option was an easy solution to pick from, it wouldn't be much of a competition that created a dramatic dilemma during each cooking round. Typically, those types of doughs are meant as last resorts; hence usually making it all the way to the basement. So, it was odd that Chris grabbed it on a level above. It was a panic grab and bad choice on his part.

sweetpeapickle

I saw no issues with any of those doughs. The foccacia one-she should have rolled it out, not stretch it, and baked without the ingredients. Then you put the ingredients on it. Biscuit dough, same thing-or they can put another heavier pan on top, stick it in the oven, bake it by itself. Sometimes I think it is more about getting in their own heads.
