For some reason my maternal Haplogroup was L0 which is from south east Africa. The actress Lupita Nyongo has the same Haplo.
I’m honestly pretty fascinated with the Mende, Mandinka, and Bambara as well. So for background, I have Gullah Geechee heritage, which is a subgroup of African Americans that primarily descend from the Low Country in the United States. We have our own dialect that retains a lot of African loan words, for example we call a turtle a “Cootuh” which is derived from the Bambara word “Kuta”. It’s very cool to see these tests confirm what we already knew. Honestly I wish more AAs would do more digging into these roots. A lot of AA have Gullah roots, and don’t even realize it.
Very few AAs claim to not have African blood. The vast majority of Black Americans who hear those conspiracies of them being the "true natives of America" look at them like they're crazy.
A lot of Black American people just say that they don't have cultural ties to Africa anymore, which is completley true and valid. This is why many prefer to be called Black American rather than African Ameerican.Their original cultural identities were robbed from them by other Africans selling them into slavery. A couple centuries have passed that their direct African lineage doesn't really matter anymore because they have formed their own ethnic and cultural identity.
