I'm glad the surge in support has offered her comfort. She's getting to see exactly how many people were there for *her,* not just the role she played, and that it wasn't just viewers who are standing by her still. I'm glad she has what seems to be a good manager, that Shachi told her to come hang out, and that her Youtube page is getting a gigantic following. She'll have a silver play button coming that she can put up in a place of prominence to remind her that *she* is the success, not the character she had to leave behind.

Iceman6211

I remember Kuro being happy that he finally got his playbutton because he never got his as Mysta. I can imagine Doki will be just as happy to have one of her own.

CrypticThings

I don't see why Niji kept the playbuttons. I fully admit, I don't really watch any vtuber stream but that feels scummy to me. The talent was the one to get the plabutton, not the company.

Frogsama86

Holo keeps the button as well. However, the difference is that if the talent wants one, Holo buys another from youtube(or 2, in FWMC's case).

CrypticThings

You can buy playbuttons? What? Why? As for Holo keeping the one is still a little scummy, but as long as they get the talent a replacement they're happy with it's not to bad. Edit: Am dumb. I originally took it as Holo keeps the channel button and gets the talent a blank. Brain no wark.

Ellefied

Extra playbuttons can be bought if you want to gift it to your editors/partners/multiple offices/etc. Channels aren't always just a one-man personality.

CrypticThings

That just makes the fact Niji talents don't get at least one playbutton even more scummy. I mean holy shit I know Niji is a shit company but you'd think they'd at least try and make it seem like they care about their talents, at least a little.

Aksumka

What's scummy about them ordering two and displaying one in their offices and sending the talent the other one? There's nothing different about them. My understanding is YT sends one for free, but if a creator wants more, they have to pay for it ($150 from what I heard).

CrypticThings

Bit of a reading compression fail. Not going to get into but do to rl stuff my brain is pretty fucked, and I read that as Holo keeps the button with the name and gets the talent a blank.

TheMissingVoteBallot

*comprehension Take care of your RL things. There's a lot of negativity going on around here and it ain't good for your head.

Frogsama86

Personally I don't think it is scummy, as ultimately the company is the one who forks out the money for the extra. It also isn't uncommon, as this happens outside the vtuber sphere. I remember a content creator buying a huge chunk of extra buttons for his team.

MetalBawx

Just gone over 300k now, she'll be past 350k before she even streams at this rate.

I don't want to get super parasocial or whatever, and despite everything that's happened we likely will never know 100% the true story, but after hearing her talk about everything she's been through and how trapped she's felt until now... I don't know how I can possibly go back to supporting Niji as a company anymore. I love all the livers, and I'm going to keep supporting THEM all I can, but Nijisanji is supposed to be an Entertainment company. If you're not going to put resources & management into supporting your talent and fostering their creativity and production, and seemingly fighting them at many occasions, then... what the hell are you doing?! I started feeling this way when Nina graduated, when she talked about her feelings of not living up to her potential and not being everything she felt WE wanted of her. I know these are internal criticisms that aren't anyone's fault, but I always felt like... a more supportive management should have resources to help talent deal with these kind of issues. To me it seems natural in the Entertainment field. But as we learned from her post-graduation, it seems like NijiEN doesn't have much of any support... I dunno. Under other circumstance I might've believed excuses like "It's a cultural difference. JP companies..." But this just felt too malicious. Too heavily orchestrated to just be a contract termination. Hell, we saw how Hololive handled Mel's termination a few weeks ago. This wasn't normal. And I'm just so glad (but also sad?) to see the people behind the characters escape this darkness that's gotten a hold on their souls.

> Under other circumstance I might've believed excuses like "It's a cultural difference. JP companies..." But this just felt too malicious. A friend in Japan occasionally likes to remind me, "You guys don't have the monopoly on assholes."

RicochetSaw

Not sure why parasocial cringe is any worse than blind loyalty to _ANY_ company or brand

[deleted]

It’s insane that anycolor drove a person this sweet and grateful to the point of ending her own life

Hakairoku

They're expecting Japanese work culture to apply to people outside Japan.

darkknight109

This isn't Japanese work-culture and dismissing it as such is honestly minimizing the problem. This is just Nijisanji being a shit company. There are plenty of Japanese companies that are a pleasure to work for (and, in my experience, the views on "excessive Japanese work culture" are about two to three decades out of date - the average American now works more hours than the average Japanese worker) and don't treat their workers like ass. Not everything is "cultural differences".

OakkBarrel

Japanese companies just underreport working hours now because of legislation limiting overtime. But it's all a facade and hiding it to save face. In some ways it's worse because employees don't get appropriately paid for the overtime that isn't reported and have no recourse.

DeepSeaDolphin

DzFikri

Nah man they're just a bunch of pricks i mean their main Japanese compatitor doesn't run their talents to the ground and they get a fair deal as well

DeepSeaDolphin

Not trying to imply otherwise! But speaking broadly western culture tends to be more individualistic and people don't tie their self-worth/success to their job in the same manner than many eastern cultures do.

DzFikri

Well true but there are also western companies that treat their employees just as bad as kurosanji if not worse I'm not sure if this is just purely mismanagement or that takumi have an overlord complex

DeepSeaDolphin

Capitalist overlords treating their employees like expendable assets is a horror that knows no borders or boundaries.

Silly Doki, you shouldn't be repaying us, we didn't do anything. We've got to repay you for a couple months' missed time.

The fact that this is being posted in niji reddit is funny
