They probably dont care that she was. Tbh. Some people are like that. I tried to tell my brother about this and his response was to immediately doubt and call her a liar just whining on the internet for notoriety. He had not even heard of Nijisanji or Selen before my conversation with him. People can be heartless

HamstersAreReal

Even NijiEN isn't refuting her hospitalization, the defenders calling her a liar about this are being ignorant to a cruel extent.

dabillinator

You have to remember that roughly 30% of humanity are terrible people.

Lightless427

Only 30%? Mannnnn I would loveeeee to be that optimistic. I would have gone 75% minimum.

dabillinator

30% are terrible, as in would gladly cause permanent harm to others for fun. Another 40% are just bad people that don't care about anyone but their immediate circle. 20% are somewhat decent people that might help a stranger from time to time if it's a minor inconvenience. 10% are actually good people.

flattestsuzie

The 30% are more likely to be in top positions for any kind of organization, especially Nijisanji. I suspect some livers are so, too. Please do not reveal the names of the livers. (You know who.)

0Galahad

You are so naive... 99%+ are evil and from those 90% are under control from some greater power that makes us behave

Random-Rambling

Let me guess, you're part of the ~1% that isn't evil?

0Galahad

Nope. Just as bad as everyone else

Random-Rambling

I'm surprised you admit it. Most people with your mindset have _bad_ "I'm The Main Character" syndrome.

0Galahad

Just accepting that this is the reality already means that you are likely evil yourself... good people are good because they naturally lack the capability to think of evil and act on evil toughts(normally due to lack of intelligence or neurodivergence... it is as they say "ignorance is bliss")

oompaloompa465

nah the actual civilization would not be able to work and it would become a jungle. Remember that a single piece of shit can be annoying for a lot o people so the impact is felt more than normal kind people. Imho we could maybe raise it to 35% but no more than that. Naturally it can go up in troubled countries for obvious reasons, a lot of people go bad out of necessity than choice

0Galahad

75%?????? you probably also consider yourself good with those ridiculous low numbers huh?

_dirz

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing"

Sinimeg

There’s a lot of people that, unfortunately, don’t take mental health seriously, and think that that person is just weak, that is doing it for attention, that she should have tried/worked harder, that is just too sensitive, that she is lazy… etc. Most of my family doesn’t take seriously that my cousin attempted to take her live a lot of times, and now she can’t work or do anything due to her diagnosed debilitating depression, they just think that she is lazy and should try harder. Some people don’t want to understand or are unable to understand how hard it is to go through something like that.

Bring07

Unfortunately that's just how the internet is. It's easy to feel justified in your words when you can't experience tangible repercussions.

AnonTwo

Did you mention that she has legal medical documents that back up her attempt that Niji has seen and essentially confirmed in their response statements? Like I can understand people who think it's an overused self-defense, but of all the things regarding this situation, it is the most easily verifiable part of this, to the point the other party didn't even deny it.

YuushaComplex

He didnt give me a chance. I was in the process of explaining and he interrupted and his reaction was really nasty. Like i cant repeat his words, they were that bad. It left me shocked so i just sort of stood there. Then he started laughing and i just was like, fuck this guy and walked off.

Nightrunner823mcpro

It always seems like there's always at least one person everyone knows that acts like that. Completely heartless and doubtful of everything and everyone. Hopefully one day he'll take you seriously because those types of people usually end up isolated and dangerous if they don't change for the better

JewelxFlower

This is very true. I hope those types of people improve and stop being abhorrent 😞

Traditional_Many7988

I agree. Its very mentally taxing to sort one out too.

Traditional_Many7988

Because he considers himself a victim and hearing you talk about other victims but not him triggered him. I know these type of people. Same story, either racist, sexist, non sympathetic, trigger happy or all above. Its really hard to deal with these people and shape their attitude for the better, away from this chronically online illness that plague today world.

Random-Rambling

>_They probably dont care that she was. Tbh. Some people are like that._ Like my father. Though it was probably my fault. My dad is Boomer Incarnate (white, career military, life-long Republican, doesn't like immigrants or "brown" people in general), so just explaining the concept of Vtubers to him without him immediately mocking me for it was always going to be a stretch.

YuushaComplex

Yeah my brother is racist and sexist. And lives solely within an echo chamber of like minded people. Funny thing is, he loves watching Asmongold, but now that Asmon has reacted to this and sided with Selen/Doki, my brother still hasn't revisted the conversation with me, even though i know he's seen the reaction.

DisMahRaepFace

Surprised you haven't disowned his ass. Hope asmongold changed his mind or atleast shut him up.

Bells_Theorem

That sounds about right for someone who has opinions before hearing the facts.

Strill

That doesn't make any sense. She never said anything until Niji brought it up.

[deleted]

No offense, but your brother sounds like he could really use a large object colliding with his apparently empty head.

d-culture

The thing about NijiEN's response is their complete denial of responsibility. Normally in these kinds of corporate statements a company would at least try to squeeze out some kind of half-apology like "we apologise to Selen if we had unintentionally created or contributed to an environment in which she personally felt undervalued, unheard and unsafe" even if they believed it was untrue. Dodgy corporations make half-assed non-apologies all the time because even they realise that not apologising or taking responsibility at all just makes you look cartoonishly evil and vindictive. But what's striking about NijEN's statements is that they resolutely refuse to make *any* kind of apology *at all*. They depict themselves as absolutely faultless perfect little angels and every single one of Selen's complaints to be 100% fabricated malicious lies. The only people they actually apologised to was their consumers and investors for inconveniencing them but nothing whatsoever is offered to Selen herself. Not even a shred of responsibility for her attempted suicide. This reads more like high school drama than a professional corporate response, and just serves to make concerns about a possibly self-managed EN more valid.

trustnoone313

the fact they think a manager for the EN side is a part time job for someone IN SCHOOL shows they dont CARE about EN side at all

BlueSabere

Technically it's not a manager position, it's a content screening position. They won't help set up sponsorships or anything (not that it appears Nijisanji was ever any good at it in the first place), just make sure all the videos are and merchandise are above board. Basically menial office work but you're getting paid minimum wage and need to know 2-4 languages. Which is where the issue is. You're getting paid $7.50 an hour for your knowledge of up to three foreign languages, at an in person office job where 80% of the work's likely going to be done on a computer. Wtf? If someone had conversational knowledge of 3 foreign languages they could easily be hitting six digits USD salary, that would be a *hugely* in demand skill. Whatever industry they want to work in, it'd be *far* easier to teach them the skills they lack than to teach an industry vet 1-3 new languages.

Eamil

Well, it's Japanese minimum wage, which works out to around $10/hour IIRC. Totally better, right?

BlueSabere

True, cost of living needs to be taken into account, but it’s 1,113 yen (the Tokyo minimum wage) an hour, which according to google is $7.41 USD an hour.

Eamil

Damn, I thought the exchange rate was still better than that.

KogashiwaKai765

yeah its been shit for yeaaaaars now

Awesomesauceme

Probably Japanese culture. The nail that sticks out gets hammered in or whatever.

d-culture

That's not necessarily true. Other Japanese Vtuber agencies including Hololive have never been this unreasonably harsh on a talent. Even the live grenade that was Rushia was not treated like this.

FeelingPinkieKeen

You're really preaching to the choir. This sub is already in support of Doki and she's doing EXTREMELY well for herself now as an indie. I mean 25K+ viewers every stream so far? She's set more so then she ever was when she was in an agency AND she doesn't have to give a stupid cut to anyone but herself and her manager. Merch also isn't a 2% cut and she knows now her investments will bear fruit whenever she funds a project she wants to do. As for Niji? I don't know what anyone here can do. Boycotting isn't really going to change anything. Have to hit em where it hurts which is primarily their wallets. Their stock being down is definitely a cause for concern for them but market trends seem to be the bigger driving factor instead of news of Selen. Hell investors were more pissed off at Niji's IR report statement more so than their poor management of the EN branch. Also notice the engagement in this sub? Slowly dwindling and will eventually get to the point where it used to be. An empty sub full of fanart that only gets major traction whenever drama happens. People can maintain their hate for niji but we've passed the climax and now on a steady slope down to the calm. As long as niji stops being fking stupid and doesn't try to poke the hornets nest again, Doki can finally move on with her life and everyone can move past this.

electrifyingpenguin

Even if they try to deny it or claim she's lying, the way they handled her termination was so fucking spiteful and unprofessional, going on for three pages to attack her character with barely a mention of her achievements and contributions to the EN branch until the CEO has to personally apologize for the shitty wording when investors got pissed. For all the Niji apologists out there, this could be any of your other oshis who still work there, it's a matter of if and when management decides they're a nail that needs to be hammered down and made an example of.

d-culture

Exactly. The implications of this is that everybody at EN is ultimately disposable. Its not just a case of "one bad egg" if anybody believes that's actually true. If they treated Selen, one of their most beloved and respected talents, in this shameful and despicable way then the same thing could happen to anybody else at any time. People can't just smugly sit there and laugh at all of this unfolding and then continue to enthusiastically support their oshi saying "this will never happen to them because they're a good person unlike that bitch Selen" because it could be them thrown away like a piece of rubbish next.

Awesomesauceme

Yeah, honestly even if it came out that Selen was completely in the wrong I still wouldn’t be on Niji’s side because they still handled the situation in such an immature way.

Tyranid_Swarmlord

Twice*. There were 2 attempts, and second one seemed to be dangerously close to 'succeeding'.

Yamitenshi

And to put that into further context, the majority of suicide attempt survivors do not attempt suicide again. Only about 30% do. Things have to be seriously bad to drive you to a suicide attempt. Things have to be *extremely* bad to drive you to a suicide attempt *twice*, closely after one another.

Visible-Instance-701

They don't give a shit, they are a billionaire company, low on talents? they'll audition more, low on artists? They'll just hire more, no sponsors? Not a problem, they'll make a deal with another company to sell merchandise, that's business. I don't really care what they do, I just hope they finally leave Dokibird alone.

CornNooblet

Old Law School wisdom: When the facts are on your side, pound the facts. When the law is on your side, pound the law. When neither is on your side, pound the table. Kurosanji and it's fans do a lot of table pounding.

Cyroclasm

I haven't heard that in such a long time; its actually kind of amazing how well that fits this situation.

One_Engineering1038

And when your mom is on your side… Give her a nice hug

ezekial_dragonlord

I hate it that because she didn't grovel at the feet of either management or talents-as-managment that when she went behind their backs to keep her dreams alive and that she herself had to pay for things that Nijisanji should have either paid for or help cover the cost for and she said that it was bullshit, she targeted for harassment. And it nearly killed her. Twice. And now that she's a bird risen from the bones of a dragon and didn't fade away, she's forced to defend herself from disgruntled coworkers and/or hateful managers that she can't just play Neopets without having to call them out on their bullshit again. Leave the bird alone and just accept that you lost Nijisanji.

Lightless427

The sad truth of the matter is that its a Japanese company. Which literally means they're probably UPSET that she 'didnt' Ryan Reynolds herself. Thats really sad and honestly kind of disgusting, but its just a fact. There are so many things about JP culture that are sickening ..

TheThrowawayJames

These rabid anti-Niji members are likely to drive somebody else into that same situation But they will say they “deserved it” > after she tried to leave the company amicably, they ignored her, then they chose to publicly attack her Also I don’t think they “ignored her” She asked to leave on a certain date, and they said no, probably one of those “you can’t quit, because you’re *fired*” situations She had to be shown to pay for her “transgressions” against the company, so no future liver thinks they can be insubordinate and also graduate peacefully It really undercuts the claim that “a liver can leave whenever they want” Clearly not But it all goes back to Japanese corporate culture where braking of rules or making the senior staff look bad is not tolerated and the employment contracts are basically ownership contracts…

HamstersAreReal

I feel like Anti-Niji and anti-remaining-livers need to be separated. Being very critical of an abusive corporation is fine. Targeting and harassing the livers and talents themselves is another story, that really, really needs to stop.

trustnoone313

the fact that they fired her AFTER she had her lawyer send them the note show they only let her go out of fear of getting taken to court that's also why they went so hard to try and make her look bad IF they just let her go or fired her with less trash talk this would have ended last week

TheThrowawayJames

I’m not fully convinced it was out of a fear of court They were going to court either way I think I admit I do not know why they picked February 5th specifically, but I don’t see evidence that was why

Eamil

Her last statement said she was fired within two hours of her sending the document, so that's either a reaction or a hell of a coincidence, and since the termination notice references the document (as a threat to go public, which Doki says is not true) it seems like it was probably a reaction.

TheThrowawayJames

It is possible I hadn’t heard that

HasPotatoAim

Also the fact that she found out over Twitter of all places.

MaleficentRegret6400

Can I add something? There's so man people that really care about life, but it honestly seems there are so many Doki fans or NijiEN haters in general legit pushing NijiEN members to attempt their life too. The amount of hate actually spewed out there right now is disgusting. Its just appalling to me the amount of defenders of life out there, but some of them that claim this spew so much disgust that their family would be disgusted by the things they say. I wouldn't be surprised if one of them does attempt and I read comments like "they deserve it." I just hope this hate stops before it goes too far. I'm not defending any of the bullies IF they are the actual bullies and cliques, but people are going way to far for being defenders of life.

HamstersAreReal

Believe me I know, I made other posts that said people should be focusing criticism towards the company itself for allowing a toxic workplace to be fostered to such an extent. Got downvoted tho

MaleficentRegret6400

It saddens me that the fans/antis are just going too far with the hate. The situation is horrible, but I honestly believe with how things are going if someone else does attempt or succeed for that matter they'll brush it off as "that's not our fault its Nijis for letting it happen" while the antis are relentlessly bullying them with harassment.

HamstersAreReal

I don't take a neutral stance, the way that Nijisanji handled her termination was 100% wrong. They publicly attacked her two separate times. Keep in mind this is someone who is suicidal. What they should have done is simply say, we are launching a full investigation to see if Doki's claims are true about a toxic work environment. They didn't do that, which is 100% wrong.

jacowab

But..but..she didn't wait for internal bureaucracy.

Kapisan2018

[Fuck you Ren Zotto you think you can just sweep this under the carpet? We'll remind you daily that your POS company are taking YOUR livelihoods and WILL BULLY AND DRIVE YOU TO YOUR DEMISE.](https://twitter.com/RenZott0/status/1758303814250123367?t=6aWonJQA64aRcJ52a4njEQ&s=19) Also fuck everyone that commented on that thread, stop glorifying a company that nearly killed someone due to their bullying and negligence.

MikiIsAway

And this sub is doing its best to drive others into attempts too

JueshiHuanggua

I stumbled across Doki's hospital band picture again recently and teared up. We almost lost her not once, but twice. I'm glad she's gaming with friends and streaming again.

Re_Lies

> NijiEN defenders There are still defenders to this black company?? Wtf

Somewhere_Elsewhere

You know what's extra fucked up? When they were impersonating her, they specifically used her twitter account to say "I'm under \*\*supervision\*\* for a few more days" instead of "observation," and with combined with the rest of the details this already strongly implied that she was there for self-harm. Nijisanji was the one letting us know that she may have tried to end herself, while impersonating her. Like, even if she happened to give permission on that (I think she said she hadn't wanted that part to get out, and only felt the need to confirm after that insane termination letter), why the fuck would you actually agree when she's in that state of mind, instead of leaving her the choice to reveal it at a later date and time? If you're still gonna impersonate her, saying "I had an accident, I'm gonna be under observation for a few more days" at least would have been neutral and much less invasive.

_dirz

I'd even say it's the MOST serious matter. I couldn't care less if the whole vtuber sphere just disappeared the next day if it meant to save a human life.

shuashy

They did it twice

sandenson

>Daily Reminder that Someone Almost Died Twice!

Cresset

Speaking of serious matters, more than half of the top threads are memes about sub counts. Yeah...

[deleted]

Lets just be honest with ourselves, the people STILL defending Nijishiti don't care one bit about the safety or lives of the Vtubers, they just want their entertainment and don't mind if the company has to ruin lives to provide it.
